Eeyal
Caves
in
Thrissur
district
is
a
fascinating
historical
site.
These
megalithic
caves
are
well-preserved
under
the
Archaeological
Department
of
India
and
serve
as
a
burial
site
for
megalithic
individuals.
The
site
consists
of
two
underground
caves
dug
into
the
earth
with
one
chamber
having
two
stone
beds
and
the
other
with
three.
Unfortunately,
the
cave's
roof
has
collapsed
over
time
but
it
remains
a
significant
landmark
in
India's
megalithic
history.
Notably,
the
'Eyyal
treasure,'
which
included
Roman
gold
coins
was
discovered
here
and
is
now
exhibited
in
various
museums
across
the
country.
This
area
is
rich
in
such
caves
with
others
like
Chowanoor
and
Kudakkallu
Parambu
within
3
kilometers(entrance
is
free
for
all).
Keep
in
mind
that
it's
a
small
site
nestled
within
a
residential
area
so
don't
expect
extensive
facilities.
For
history
enthusiasts
and
students
Eeyal
Caves
is
a
must-visit,
offering
a
glimpse
into
the
past.
However,
please
be
aware
that
the
roads
leading
to
the
site
are
narrow
and
parking
can
be
challenging
for
vehicles
other
than
bikes.
