It is one of the megalithic sites found in Thrissur district of Kerala state. It is well protected under archeological department of India. This is a burial site of megalithic men and strong indicator of human settlement in the area from that era. This consist of two underground caves, cut into earth. One chamber has two stonebeds and the other has three. Roof of the cave here is collapsed now. This marks an important site in megalithic history of the country. Artifacts found here includes the famous 'Eyyal treasure' which contained Roman gold coins. They are now displayed in various museums across the country. There are more caves in the nearby areas like this.

It is not important for a tourist, but it is an important place for a history student. It is a rock cut cave or 'Vettukal Guha' built in the megalithic age. It has two compartments. There is a corridor to the large room. There are stone beds on the sides of the main room. There is a stone pillar in the middle of the main room. The roof of the main chamber is partially dilapidated. The small room also has stone beds. Many Roman coins of 1st century AD were discovered from here.

Three celled megalithic burial. Carved out of laterite rock. Cells have a small bed for laying out the remains.

Eeyal Caves in Thrissur district is a fascinating historical site. These megalithic caves are well-preserved under the Archaeological Department of India and serve as a burial site for megalithic individuals. The site consists of two underground caves dug into the earth with one chamber having two stone beds and the other with three. Unfortunately, the cave's roof has collapsed over time but it remains a significant landmark in India's megalithic history. Notably, the 'Eyyal treasure,' which included Roman gold coins was discovered here and is now exhibited in various museums across the country. This area is rich in such caves with others like Chowanoor and Kudakkallu Parambu within 3 kilometers(entrance is free for all). Keep in mind that it's a small site nestled within a residential area so don't expect extensive facilities. For history enthusiasts and students Eeyal Caves is a must-visit, offering a glimpse into the past. However, please be aware that the roads leading to the site are narrow and parking can be challenging for vehicles other than bikes.

(Translated by Google) Iyaliyal Cave, situated near Kunnamkulam in Thrissur district, is one of the most famous Megalithic Monuments found in Kerala. The rock cut cave is located under the care of the ASI - Archaeological Survey of India. The largest quantity of Roman coins found in Kerala is from this cave area. These coins are from the time of Julius Caesar and are on display at the State Antique Coin Museum at Koikal Palace, Thiruvananthapuram. A small, secluded archaeological wonder well maintained by the ASI. It's a bit off the main road on a narrow path, so better park your vehicle beside the unmissable school on the main road.

😐 Kalasamala Eco Tourism now charges a 10 rupee ticket. which feels unnecessary as there haven't been significant additions apart from a ticket counter and a small park. Previously, it was free. It's a small family hangout spot for evening outings, but don't expect too much from it. However, there's...
