We visited the Headlands Beach, State Park which is located on the shores of Lake Erie just East of Cleveland near Mentor, Ohio. It is the longest natural beach in the state and is the widest beach I've ever visited on Lake Erie. This beautiful sand and rock beach is adjacent to the Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve and offers great views of the lake and Fairport Harbor West Breakwater Light. There is plenty of parking in the expansive parking lot with restroom / shower facilities. A great place to spend an afternoon on the beach, picnicking or hiking one of the numerous trails.

This is a nice place to visit and go for a walk or to go swimming. My girlfriend and I love to take our kids to swim and play. This is definitely a nice beach. And definitely a great place to have a picnic. There is public restrooms with changing areas. There is plenty of parking. I would definitely recommend stopping by if your in the area. This is also a good place to plan a day trip to have a fun day on the beach. And if you need a place to take your kids to burn off energy this is definitely a great place to visit.

Great park. Nice size beach. Plenty of space to set up on the shore. Many picnic tables. There are really two main areas. The bird rehab area and the public beach area. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. Mainly due to the bird area. There is a playground closer to the entrance. Water normally is pretty warm by late July. You do need to watch the waves and watch out for rip currents. Restrooms are fairly clean for being at the beach. Toilets flush.

I enjoyed a lovely few hours at The Eastern side of the Headlands Beach park in early September, a few days ago. We checked out both sides of the park, the western "big beach" and the eastern protected dunes/marsh. Had a picnic in the shade of the beautiful cottonwood trees before going out on the boardwalk to get to the sand. It was a longer walk than I expected for me with my walker, but a nice stroll for most people. I so wanted to take the right hand path to the lighthouse, but it's like a deer trail. Not for someone needing wheels! The beach was nice, but the deck with the binoculars no longer has it's overhead structure. I don't know why they took it down. Again beautiful day, and fun to watch families playing at the beach. After talking to some other visitors, we checked out the western main beachy area to see the three sand sculptures from the sand castle building contest beck in August. It's amazing they are still there. There is a blue tarp runway out towards the water for easier walking (or walkers line mine) but I didn't go all the way out. Looking forward to going back. I feel lucky to live near such a great beach and lake.

Our favorite family beach spot in Lake County. We always find lots of beach glass and cool rocks for our collection. The boardwalk is beautiful to walk and see lots of birds and flowers.

Beautiful place to come enjoy the waves from Lake Erie. Nicely manicured beach and clean grounds. Lots of parking and area to enjoy. Nice bathrooms are plentiful in the area. Love the lighthouse views and bird watching in the area as well!

This is a beautiful beach park. No matter what you want to do, you can probably do it there. You can have a cook out, swim, walk a flat paved path, and it is also pet friendly. That is just the main part of the park You can walk in the connected Dunes preserve part of the park. It has beautiful views and is very peaceful. The whole park is peaceful, When I have a lot of stuff on my mind it is the perfect place to just chill, take in the beauty of the place and sort things out. Even in the fall and winter you can find peace and beauty there.

One of my favorite places in Ohio. Great for sunsets and the best beach glass. A lot to do and see. I’ve been going here since I was a kid.

Nice spacious beach, I only did a quick rest stop here but would go back again. Headlands Beach is the larger beach and it would be a VERY long walk to the lighthouse from here. Headlands Dunes further east is a smaller beach with the boardwalk and a shorter (but still long) walk to the lighthouse.

Nice, clean beach area with restrooms. The perfect place to relax or for an event. Went for an event with vendors, food trucks, and live music.

One of the nicest beaches in Cleveland area with wildlife reservation and lighthouse nearby for those interested in something more then just the beach. Great place for family and friends gatherings and picknics. Planty of room to play beach games and sports. There are some grills available in the park (not on the beach) in case you decide to do some bbq. The majority of the beach has soft sand, but the waterline (about 10 feet from the water) is covered with small rocks, so be prepared and have some appropriate footware if desired. The only thing that is asking for improvement, is the signage to make easier to locate the entrance/exit from the beach to the parking lots. It is difficult to find the path out of the beach through the treeline. The bottom line, this is a great place to spend a nice sunny summer day with a company or even alone!

Lovely beach. Wear your shoes unless you don't mind rocks. Usually a bit crowded right near the water but more than enough space to plant yourself and enjoy the waves.

Moderately crowded for a September Sunday, a lot of debris (drift wood & such) on the rocky beaches - recommend wearing water shoes if you have sensitive feet. Lots of pretty rocks & seaglass to find! Beautiful place

It's a nice, big beach and I was looking forward to picking up some treasures. Unfortunately, water quality was POOR the day we visited and I could not take the chance on being exposed to bacteria. Happy to be able to get pictures in any case.

It's sad that this Ohio beach-park is so neglected. In years past, finding parking spots could be difficult because of its popularity. They still have HUGE PARKING AREAS but so few cars (& beach goers) when we were there. I'm certain they've not cleaned the flotsam from the beach at all since the weather broke. While they maintain the grass, nothing about this great park looks like Ohio gives a s*it. Cleveland's Metroparks has turned around Edgewater Park with improvements galore. Perhaps (if they're as efficient as Cuyahoga County's version) Lake County's Metroparks should take it over?

A beautiful windy day in October! We had a lovely walk on the beach and then the trail to the lighthouse.
