The memorial is in memory of the martyrs of the Language Movement in Bangladesh, who gave their lives for the cause of Bengali to be made the national language, on February 21, 1952. Bhasha Shahid Smarak at the Ekushe Udyan park situated opposite M.P. Birla Planetarium. The memorial comprises a statue of a woman with long braided hair, holding a dead man on her lap. The woman symbolises ‘Mother Language’ and the dead man, the martyrs who gave their lives for the cause of their language. On the pedestal is etched the famous lines: 'Aamar bhai-er rakte rangano Ekushe February Ami ki bhulite pari'. February 21 is now celebrated as International Mother Language Day. The day promotes awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

It's the memorable garden dedicated for the great 21st . To commemorate the memories of the people, who sacrificed their lives, in every year scheduled programme is being held here. Outstanding environment of the garden will surely attract everyone. It's located in the heart of the city. Good transportation are available. No entry fee.

A beautifully maintained green patch of island. The ‘smarak’ or ‘memorial’ is in memory of the martyrs of the Language Movement or Bhasha Andolan in Bangladesh, who gave their lives for the cause of Bengali to be made the national language, on February 21, 1952. February 21 is now celebrated as International Mother Language Day, after being recognised by UNESCO in 1999, and later by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008. The day promotes awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The memorial comprises a statue of a woman with long braided hair, holding a dead man on her lap. The woman symbolises ‘Mother Language’ and the dead man, the martyrs who gave their lives for the cause of their language.

Every educational institution in Bangladesh has 'Shaheed Minar' to remember the language movement. But I was not at all prepared to see something like this outside the country. Sculptures are two extraordinary expressions. [I was totally thrilled to see this statue which does homage to our martyred language movement. I even never see these types of architectural beauty in our country due to '52]
