If you are looking to dive into history of erstwhile Bengal know more about Bengal folk art Patachitra paintings, intricate Sujni kantha, terracotta panels, stone sculpture collection of 18th and 19th century from different parts of Bengal like Birbhum, Bankura and others this museum is surely not to be missed. It includes the personal collection of Sir Gurusaday Dutta ICS who lived in Bengal between 1881 and 1941 . There is a Bratachari or physical education centre adjacent to the museum. Dutt had pioneered the Bratachari movement and was a great connoisseur of art and culture which is evident from the museum. The museum though unded Ministry of Culture is looking for funds as government funding was stopped in 2017. The Rs 10 ticket from visitors is not adequate to sustain the museum and hope people read my reviews and support the cause and visit the museum to visualize our rich culture and heritage.

Nicely maintained museum. Inside photography is not allowed. Entry fee Rs. 10 per person. Exhibition on Bengali art and culture. Not much visitors come here. Remains quiet most of the times. Local schools arrange excursion tours here for the children. There is new section which is recently built is for modern art only.

Asia's biggest museum of folk art. But, closing down for various issues. Both budget cut from government, and unwillingness of museum staffs to update and upgrade are main reasons. Its a piece of Bengal's history facing threat of non- existence.

The Gurusaday Museum has a rich collection of approximately 3300 exquisite exhibits of folk arts and crafts, which amply reflect the vigour and vitality of the rural life and present a vivid picture of art, social traditions, religious beliefs, practices and motifs, aesthetic assimilation and cultural influences in undivided Bengal as well as in India.

Loved the atmosphere and the collections but should have been a bit more well lighted and maintained. It achieves the collections of Gurusaday Dutt who was An IAS Officer and was involved in the Bratachari movement. Monday and all Central Holidays it is closed. Ticket is Rs. 10 per person.

This was an old building before it became a musuem. In the early 1960's my grandfather was alloted this place , which is now a musuem. My Grandfather was LIC Branch manager of Diamond Harbour. This building was been given to him by LIC for staying purposes. It later became a musuem. My father's entire childhood was spent in this vicinity of Diamond Harbour just opposite is the famous sculpture home who passed a few days back.

Sri Gurusaday Dutta I.C.S., District Collector of remote parts of the then Bengal, is the man behind this Bratachari village and museum. To preserve, revive and revitalise the dying folk art traditions he collected between 1929 and 1941 about 2325 exquisite specimens including several heirlooms. The whole collection after his death in 1941, was handed over to the Bengal Bratachari Society which was also founded by him to preserve the Bengali folk traditions and culture. Everyone must visit this museum to know about Bengal. During December they organise camps for the folk artists who comes from all over the Bengal to demonstrate their skills. Except Monday the museum opens for visitors everyday between 11 am till 5 PM. The location is in between Thakurpukur 3A bus stand and Joka metro station.

Though this museum is a gem in folk art, But it's closed for last 2-3 years for internal disputes. It's really disappointing. Please don't visit now. You'll return with empty hands. Yes. One thing. They have a small but well-maintained garden with nearby pond. That's peaceful.
