Nahoum's! I've heard so much about this place, there was so much room for me to be let down because I walked in with sky high expectations and I'm so pleased to say that all of my expectations were met! The lemon puff is a MUST HAVE! I loved the chewy sweet texture of the jam tart, and the chocolate eclair was good too! Got a bunch of plum cakes packed as well, what a stunning place with a stunning vibe!

Finally was able to make a visit to this historic place. There seems to be a queue always irrespective of when you visit and wait time is anywhere between 10 mins - 1 hr depending on rush. Personal favorites are almond cookies, fruit cake and garlic bread. The pastries were a bit dry and not upto expectations.

NAHOUMS AND SONS This legendary 120 years old Jewish Bakery located at New Market, Kolkata was in my wishlist from a long long time. So finally made it up and visited here few days back to taste their confectionery and savoury items which they are famous for. Tried the chocolate pastry, strawberry pastry, chocolate tart, chicken puff and rum ball. Honestly, I felt both the pastries to be extremely dry, not so fresh and soft as they should be. Coming to the chocolate tart, it was decent. I just l liked he rum ball. The chicken puff was pretty good taste wise. Don't know felt very disappointing with the pastries. Wanted to get hold of their lemon tart, but the stock was finished by the time I reached there.

While the store is immensely nostalgic and iconic, the place has become quite unreasonable with its pricing because of the fame it already has. 4 is a bit higher than what I want to give it and 3 is a tad bit lower. So succumbing to the memories of this store, I give it a bittersweet 4. The plum cake, the special fruit cake, the butter cake, the black forest pastry are all very nice (and loaded). The prices are exorbitant but it is okay once in a while if you cannot make it yourself. The not so nice things are the savouries present. Seriously, DO NOT try the savoury bakes. They are just extremely bad and feel cheap. Tip: They have an almond cookie (they are small roundish blobs of crispy chewy goodness). Try it. It is very different and quite nice.

The bakery was founded by Nahoum Israel Mordecai, a Baghdadi Jew back in 1902. And today, Nahoum's run by the third generation of that same lineage, is all in to serve the city of joy, being the only Jewish Bakery to exist in Kolkata now. Don't go by the names of these desserts and savouries, some are common and some really unfamiliar. The cheesecake isn't really a cheesecake here, but a creme puff. The cookies and biscuits look different!

120+ and still in business! This is the oldest Jewish bakery in Kolkata, started all the way back in 1902. As soon as you enter the store, the bakery aroma and ambience will take you back to olden times! I tried their signature plum cake. It was really good. Dense texture with rum-soaked dry fruits made a perfect balance!

One of the oldest family run bakeries in kolkota. It is situated in the S.S Hoggs market. There is limited items but seeing the amount of people moving in n out it seems quite popular .we bought sweet buns which we felt were overpriced for Rs 25 each also they were dry . The chocolate éclairs filling was too sweet. But we loved the Almond rings .

Call me crazy but I actually went out there and ordered all possible cakes so that I could taste all of them and come up with my favourites. They are all priced at 40 rs and it's totally worth it.This is really old confectionery and a really good one. I really love the strawberry pastry, almond tart, lemon tart( incase you like tangy), lemon souffle, baklawa & rich fruit cake( absolutely delish) Do give it a try.

I bought a plain butter cake. Price was reasonable. The cake was tasty and very soft inside. It reminds me of my Didun's (grandmother) cake.

Nestled amidst the hustle and bustle of New Market, Nahoum and Sons is an absolute go-to if you happen to visit Kolkata. It’s a historic establishment known for its confectionery and baked items. Don’t sleep on the lemon tart; it is legitimately the most beautifully tangy, lemony dessert I’ve had in ages. Another big shout-out goes to the plum cakes that it’s already well-known for—they’re decadent and beautifully rich. Do visit this place if you’re a big dessert aficionado! 10/10

Ah!! It pretty much sums up our childhood, holding my mummy and papa's hand to go and have the cheese or chicken patties.😌😌 This is every kolkatan's childhood place. Its located inside the New Market/Hogg Market in Dharmatala. Speciality : Chicken patties, Cheese patties, their pastries and ofcourse their black forest. During the winter, they make special dry fruit cakes. Also they have their baked biscuits, cookies and even chocolates. If you are in Kolkata and want a piece of our childhood and want to relive the nostalgia, then this place is a must!!

This place needs no introduction. Every cake lovers at Kolkata know this place very well. However, their chicken patties is extraordinary and excellent in taste. I don't like their almond tart as it is very sweet. In general, I always love to eat their plum cake.

I love bakeries, so when I read about Nahoum’s in the New Market area in Kolkata, I knew I had to visit. I’m so glad I did! It is inside the market, but every single seller I asked knew where it was, so I was able to get there easily. It is very popular, with lots of customers being served quickly. The selection is vast and everything looked delicious! Since it is a Jewish bakery, I didn’t know what goods to expect. I asked if there were bagels, and the owner said no as if he has answered the question many times before. 😊 We bought two cream-filled croissants, two chocolate pastries, and some almond cookies and all were all delicious! Lots of other things were very tempting, so it was hard to choose. In addition to having tasty baked goods, this was a fascinating cultural experience. Highly recommended!

Went here on a Friday afternoon and it was really packed in the middle of the market. Ordered chicken patties, lemon tart, jam biscuit and Swiss roll. The chicken patty was not crunchy and wasn't really appetizing. I didn't like the lemon tart at all, the chocolate Swiss roll had an aftertaste of essence and the jam biscuit seemed undercooked. I was shocked why there were so many people waiting for their pastries. Not the greatest bakery I have been to.

Huge demand, especially during the pre-Christmas time. Really delicious cakes, no doubt, but hye wait is killing. The environment inside the shop is in the 1902 time.

120 year old Jewish bakery where people hop into to get pastries and other bakery fillings without the use of high amount of yeast. The bakery holds wide range of pastries and snacks. The most popular Heart Cale, lemon tart, strawberry cake, pineapple cake is a must have. Price is on the high end than the quality. It's a name that is going on. 1 visit is enough to get the essence of Heritage Kolkata notebook.

I've been eager to visit Nahoum for quite some time, and, given its widespread popularity, my expectations were sky-high. And though, I really wanted to have loved this place, my experience was far from satisfying. I tried a couple of items, including the lemon tart, eclair, heart cakes, pineapple pastry and their renowned rich fruit cake. The lemon tart fell short of expectations, and the heart cakes tasted odd, almost as if made with eno, with an overpowering flavor. Even the pineapple pastry my mom tried was disappointing. The eclair provided some relief. Although this was not a traditional eclair, something that I had expected, the surprise wasn't too bad on my part. The worst of it all, however, was the fruit cake. It was way too sweet, filled only with candied raisins and had a weird aftertaste. Nobody at my home would have a second helping of the cake. Honestly, I had hoped to experience the old-world charm of this local favourite, but it seems they've modernized it into more of a bakery shopping mart, relying on its legacy to draw a crowd.

Worst confectionery & bakery driven by instagrammer hype. They use cheap bakery ingredients and the behaviour of the staffs seems to be magistrate type. There are other good bakeries in the hub who serve good quality cakes and pasteries.
