It is an amazing bridge as this bridge has no nuts or bolts. This bridge has been made by contraction and expansion of metals. It is a very busy part of the city as this bridge connects Kolkata to Howrah. One cannot stop the car to see bridge during the day. You can enjoy the bridge when you are crossing it to go to the other side.

Howrah Bridge is a beauty and you can only Enjoy it to the fullest when you walk over it, when you observe the people/Transport crossing it (Specially in Early Morning or Evening time). It's magnificent and you can stand there and watch it all day along. If you go in early morning then take a few steps down to reach Malick Ghat Flower Market. You will love it. A Photographer and Flower lovers delight it is 😊

Howrah Bridge, an engineering marvel since its completion in 1943, stands as a testimony to Kolkata's rich history. Named after Rabindranath Tagore, the poet, it connects the city to the Bay of Bengal. Dating back to 1862, its feasibility and enduring design were tested during the 1965 war. With an average daily traffic of 1-1.5 lakhs vehicles, this riveting bridge remains a pivotal link, intertwined with the nuts and bolts of Kolkata's daily life.

It's the most beautiful attraction of the city and one must spend sunrise and sunset on the bridge. The most important fact about the bridge is that there is no nut or bolt. Also, enjoy the scenic view from the ferry. One of the main attractions of Kolkata over the Hooghly river. What an amazing place to visit. This bridge is always busy, so many people, cars, tuktuks, carts, going to and fro on it. It was such a great feeling walking on it, and experiencing this.

One of the most notable sights is the Howrah Bridge which is a cantilever bridge. But I expected better especially the lighting is so bad. Bridge pavement should be kept clean. I think more awareness should be raised about its use among common people. It is the sixth largest suspension bridge in the entire world. It is situated just above the river Hooghly. 2150 feet in length with a hanging span. The first Howrah Bridge was built in 1874. Later in 1945, the present bridge was inaugurated instead of the old one. And initially it was called New Howrah Bridge.

Howrah Bridge , one one of the wonderful thing these Britishers built in our country. It's really a wonder the way it stands. There is no pillar in between. And such a broad bridge. The sight of Yellow cabs and old fashioned buses on this bridge will make you feel that you are in some ancient city. Really enjoyed the night view from the bank of the river. Take a boat ride from there to the next place it will fill your mind for sure.

Nice bridge. Good place for visit. This is also a tourist attraction. Because it was made in during British India by British engineers. This bridge made only with iron and steel. There are no pole in between two side of Bridge. This is very old bridge. Many people visit here everyday. This a very important bridge.

The bridge runs between Howrah and Kolkata. History tells us that it was built by the British, made of high-quality iron, and maintained by the government. The Ganges itself flows under this bridge. He saw all these environments, scenes. The mind and heart are happy.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the iconic Howrah Bridge in Kolkata, and it truly lived up to its reputation as a symbol of the city's rich history and vibrant spirit. The sheer magnitude of the bridge is awe-inspiring, especially when illuminated against the evening sky. Walking across the bridge offered a unique perspective of the Hooghly River, bustling with activity and the constant flow of life in Kolkata. The architectural marvel of Howrah Bridge is a testament to the city's engineering prowess and a captivating sight for any visitor. The blend of modernity and tradition is beautifully encapsulated in this structure, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring Kolkata. The view from the bridge is breathtaking, and it's a great spot to capture the essence of the city. While the bridge itself is a marvel, the experience is enhanced by the surrounding atmosphere—the sound of honking vehicles, the scent of street food wafting through the air, and the energy of the people. Howrah Bridge is not just a crossing; it's a journey into the heart of Kolkata.

Howrah Bridge is a bridge with a suspended span over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. Commissioned in 1943, the bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the two cities of Howrah and Kolkata.

The Howrah Bridge is one of the most recognised landmarks in Kolkata. Connecting Kolkata with its neighbouring industrial city of Howrah over the Hooghly river, the bridge will celebrate its 75th birthday next year. The construction of the Howrah Bridgewas first proposed in 1862. The Government of Bengal wanted to build a bridge over the Hooghly River. They asked the Chief Engineer of the East India Railway Company to study the feasibility of the idea and come up with a proposal. But for several reasons, his proposal never materialised. Manuel Menal / WikiCommons Later in the 1800s, a pontoon bridge or floating bridge was built between Howrah and Kolkata. But it wasn’t strong enough to handle the huge traffic between the two cities or to weather the frequent storms in the area. So the Bengal government continued to look for alternatives and, several decades later, the new bridge was finally commissioned. The contract to build it was awarded to a company called The Braithwaite Burn and Jessop Construction Company. Jonathen Abhi / WikiCommons Constructed without nuts and bolts, the Howrah Bridge was formed by riveting the entire steel structure. The bridge officially opened in 1943 when it was the world’s third longest cantilever bridge. Today, it is the sixth longest bridge of its type in the world. Shubhankar.sengupta19 / WikiCommons The Howrah Bridge is also thought to be the world’s busiest cantilever bridge. It handles about 100,000 vehicles and more than 150,000 pedestrians every day. While the bridge remains one of the key attractions in the city, the Howrah Junction Railway Station at its Howrah end is another site of much historical significance as the country’s oldest railway station. At the Kolkata end, the bridge ends right by the stunning and colourful Mallick Ghat flower market, one of the city’s most vibrant markets. Read Next

The Bridge is magnificent and huge, it's beauty lies in the way it has been constructed. It's Iron is the same used to built Effiel Tower. People can imagine how Eifiel Tower will look like... It's still an Engineering Marvel. However the other side is the bridge lower part walkway is Very very dirty.. the govt/municipality should take care of cleanliness also there is menance of hawkers all around.. no proper place to walk around. The road crossing is very dangerous as there are no signals or Zebra crossing available to cross the Bridge. As many foreigners visit here... The surrounding area of Howrah bridge should be redevelop to pave as a tourist attractions spot. Rest of the kolkata city looks very good and properly.planned.

Like any legendary place this bridge looks abd feels so different in different seasons, different times of the day, different angle . Standing under it reminded me immediately of the Eiffel tower, maybe because of the huge similar metallic beams . The bridge is serving it's purpose very well. Though a bit crowded and dynamic but no one can ignore it as such. The flower market below at one end is a delight to the eyes-- an organised but beautiful chaos . The ghats are certainly dirty and something should be done about it

The Howrah Bridge is one of the most recognised landmarks in Kolkata. Connecting Kolkata with its neighbouring industrial city of Howrah over the Hooghly river. The construction of the Howrah Bridge was first proposed in 1862. The Government of Bengal wanted to build a bridge over the Hooghly River. They asked the Chief Engineer of the East India Railway Company to study the feasibility of the idea and come up with a proposal. But for several reasons, his proposal never materialised. Later in the 1800s, a pontoon bridge or floating bridge was built between Howrah and Kolkata. Constructed without nuts and bolts, the Howrah Bridge was formed by riveting the entire steel structure. The bridge officially opened in 1943 when it was the world’s third longest cantilever bridge. Today, it is the sixth longest bridge of its type in the world. It took more than 26,000 tons of steel to build the Howrah Bridge. The Howrah Bridge is also thought to be the world’s busiest cantilever bridge.

It is one of the longest Cantilever Bridges in the world. The bridge is beautifully illuminated during the evening hours. One of the best ways to enjoy the view of this bridge is to take ferry⛴ ride on Hooghly River. It connect the city to the Howrah Railway Terminal Station as well as localities in and around Howrah. Thanks

Howrah Bridge is one of the scenic wonders of India - Kolkata. It is built over Hooghly River by the Britishers. It is a balanced cantilever bridge over the Hooghly river. This bridge does not have nuts & bolts. It was constructed by Braithwaite Burn & Jessop Construction Company. Materials used for this is pure steel. Total length is 705 mtrs - 2285 feet. Width is 30 mtrs - 98 feet. Height is 82 mtrs - 266 feet. This bridge serves as the gateway of Kolkata connecting it to the Howrah Railway station which is one of the five intercity train terminus station serving Howrah & Kolkata. Kolkata Port Trust is vested with the maintenance of the bridge. On 24th June 2005 a private cargo vessel MV Mani while trying to pass under the bridge had it's funnel stuck underneath for 3-4 hrs causing damage worth about 15 millions. It takes a load of 1,50,000 pedestrians & 100,000 vehicles per day.

A very Strong bridge. At today's Age we might find it very interesting because many big and long bridges has been build. But these was built before India's Independence and has a Strong history behind it.

If I had to explain it in one word it would be Amazing. I mean the size makes it hard to believe that this is a human made structure it's huge as hell. Tons of steel and a lot of hard work of mankind stands tall as an example of what human beings are capable of......

The Howrah Bridge is an iconic landmark of Kolkata and a must-see attraction for visitors to the city. The bridge's unique design and historic significance make it a fascinating sight to behold. The view of the Hooghly River from the bridge is breathtaking, especially at sunset. The experience of crossing the bridge on foot or by car is unforgettable, providing a glimpse into the daily life of the bustling city of Kolkata.

Facts about Bridge :- Hard to believe but true, the Howrah Bridge was built without the use of a single nut and screw to join the array of metallic structures making up the gigantic structure of the bridge. Instead, a piece of metal was used to connect two or more plates inserted through the hole in plates and pressed on the other side.

Howrah Bridge is a must visit attraction in Kolkata. Built on the river of the Hooghly, it's not only just the medium of transportation, it's more of a heritage. My recommended method to watch Howrah Bridge is to go to Babughat , Book a ticket for Launch to Howrah Junction for 12 Rupees and go to the other side of the river by the Bridge and then take a walk back over the bridge to the other side again. It will be a great experience for sure as it combines both the view from river and view while waking down the path

supposedly the bridge with most nuts and bolts. was quite busy even on a sunday. we walked over it, could feel the suspension as you walk. super polluted area so not the most pleasant walk but we did it anyway as it has historical significance. was a bad decision in hindsight. theres one dirty and smelly flower market at the end of the bridge on the kolkata side which we checked out as well. i just wish people kept this city clean 😢

Howrah Bridge is a bridge with a suspended span over the Hooghly River in Kolkata. Commissioned in 1943, the bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the two cities of Howrah and Kolkata. Went for a morning ride on a Sunday. It is extremely rare to see the famous Howrah Bridge with such little traffic and noise at around 9 am. On any other day, the place would be bustling with energy, people, buses, taxis, etc. and a bit of chaos here and there. No matter how many times you visit this architectural marvel, you're can always count on being astonished by its sheer beauty.

Bt when I reached here I felt really amazing (these words can't describe that feeling which I felt here, cause words won't be enough to describe real human feelings). I would say just visit for once and I'm so sure that you'll definitely enjoy the moment. You'll see the beauty of human Art, The beauty of the Nature & of course The beauty of the City. & I think I don't wanna ruin your excitement saying everything about it so just come and Visit. Have a memorable journey. Enjoy the moment & enjoy your life. Thank you ❤️

If you're herefor a tour, definitely take a walk across the bridge. It's an experience like no other. Also, try a ferry ride along the Hooghly under the bridge in the evening: it's majestic.

Howrah Bridge is a balanced cantilever bridge over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. Commissioned in 1943,[8][10] the bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the two cities of Howrah and Kolkata (Calcutta). On 14 June 1965 it was renamed Rabindra Setu after the great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, who was the first Indian and Asian Nobel laureate.[10] It is still popularly known as the Howrah Bridge.

Commissioned in 1943, the bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the two cities of Howrah and Kolkata (Calcutta). Locale: Howrah and Kolkata Crosses: Hooghly River Maintained by: Kolkata Port Trust Constructed by: Braithwaite, Burn & Jessop Construction Company # Record Breaking Traffic The Howrah Bridge may be the world’s busiest cantilever bridge, bearing a load of around 100,000 vehicles and over 150,000 pedestrians each day. To put those figures in perspective, traffic in 1946 was recorded as little over 27,000 vehicles, around 121,000 pedestrians, and close to 3,000 cattle. Whether you live in Kolkota or are just visiting, these astounding facts should give you a greater appreciation of this marvel of human engineering.

One of the beautiful bridge I ever seen.. Specially in festival time in bengal.. the bridge change its new look.. It connect two cities howrah and Kolkata.. The emotions of all Bengali peplople is connect with this bridge..🌉 It's located in Hooghly river..!!

  • 5/5 Raj K. 8 months ago on Google
One of the most enduring icons of the city, the Howrah Bridge was commissioned and built by the British between 1936 and 1943. The tall cantilevered bridge links Kolkata to Howrah and its bustling railway station, which serves as a gateway to the northeast of India. The web of girders stretches 1,500 feet over the Hooghly, crisscrossed with small and big fishing boats, ferrys, and steamers. Now renamed Rabindra Setu, after nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, who hailed from the city, the Howrah has fascinated poets, painters, writers, filmmakers and tourists. The bridge is definitely an architectural marvel worth seeing. We went at 6 in the morning, and found that that place was already alive and kicking, with wholesale of flowers going on for local temples. Besides the bridge, the whole place was something definitely worth seeing. I'd suggest you visit the place before 9am, to get the true feel of the place. Bordered by thin walkways, the bridge's eight lanes of chaotic traffic bear 2 million people each day in buses, rickshaws, cars, scooters, bicycles, and pushcarts. A walk across the bridge provides terrific people-watching.

The Howrah Bridge is currently ranked the sixth-longest bridge of the balanced cantilever bridge type in the world. When commissioned in 1943, it was the 3rd-longest cantilever bridge in the world.

  • 5/5 Sonal A. 4 months ago on Google
I loved walking on the bridge. it's the most beautiful attraction of the city and one must spend sunrise and sunset on the bridge. The most important fact about the bridge is that there is no nut or bolt. Also, enjoy the scenic views from the ferry. The view of yellow taxi is fabulous and it is just WOWWWWW...... Book a ticket for Launch to Howrah Junction for 6 Rupees (one side) and go to the other side of the river by the Bridge and then take a walk back over the bridge to the other side again. It will be a great experience for sure as it combines both the view from river and view while waking down the path. Howrah Bridge is a must visit attraction in Kolkata. Built on the river of the Hooghly, it's not only just the medium of transportation, it's more of a heritage.

  • 5/5 Rupak M. 3 months ago on Google New
This is one of the most beautiful and mind-blowing places in West Bengal.. It will be best if you take a launch ride, from under the bridge, and if it's in the evening, you will surely be mesmerized. It's heavenly
