Really beautiful fountain of the Venetian era. Intricate pillars and spouts in the form of Venetian lions. An ideal place to have a break, freshen up on a warm day and take the usual picture. It is one of three best known landmarks of Rethymno.

It is not worth moving on purpose to see this fountain. Those who have visited Italy, Croatia or France have seen better. Of course if you are in Nethymnon and will pass by there anyway, why not. The fountain is neither ugly nor quite beautiful. The "almost-like-an-advertising" of the fountain brings a lot of clients to the restaurants and bars around. 😡

Venetian monument hidden in the middle of the restaurant. Passers-by do not pay attention to the fountain, only the knick-knacks in the shops. There should be some information about this place.

Very pretty village, chilled atmosphere, nice shops, drink and freshen up at the fountain and people watch. Do visit the folk museum to the left of the fountain. It's free, tiny but packed with lovely antiquities, and hosted by a genuinely enthusiastic and welcoming host.

Lovely part of Rethymno, it's a strange part but in a nice way , for me it's in a busy area lots of cafes, shops etc but It always feels so calm here . It's very peaceful and at times you'll find the odd person playing a musical instrument. As you can see from my pictures we had rain in July, that seemingly doesn't happen very often but plenty to see and do anyway.

The Rimondi Fountain in Rethymno Crete, Greece: A small but elegantly classical structure stands at Petichaki square, in the heart of the old town of Rethymno, close to Loggia. This is the Rimondi fountain built in 1626 during the Venetian rule. Named after the Venetian governor of the period, A. Rimondi, it continually threw water from three springs that had the form of lion heads and provided an important water source for the inhabitants of the Old Town. Around the springs, there were ancient Greek columns with elegant endings on top. Between the columns, the two preserved tablets real Liberaliatis and Fonte. A Venetian coat of arms has been installed on top of the lion heads, in the middle of the fountain. Close to the Fountain, there are open cafeterias and other Venetian monuments.

A small, but nice little fountain.

Very central attraction. It is a good place to have as a meeting point. It is in the very middle of Rethymnon old town.

Interesting historical tourist attraction in the centre of Rethymno. Popular place for a family photo. Surrounded by street cafes and restaurants, so plenty of hustle and bustle. Worth a visit if you're out walking in the centre of Rethymno.

Landmark of Rethymnon's old town, the Rimondi fountain with it's remarkable facade remains the symbol passage from a renaissance Christian world to an Ottoman Empire. Both architectural parts accompanied by the equivalent emblems are signs of respect of history

Nice little corner in the old town but way too many selfie takers.

I only discovered this fountain whilst I was having a quick snack at one of the taverna's next to it, it's a nice place to have a quick photo.

Cute little fountain with a lot of souvenir stores and restaurants in its proximity. It is recommendad to start your walk here and through the narrow and beautiful streets of the old town here.

A spring well from the year 1626 during the Venetian rule. The well once brought water to the townspeople from a nearby hill. Four columns and part of the dome remain from the building. Cool water comes from the pipe. Sometimes quite a crowded corner and people even turn back. Most of the time, everyone gets to take a picture while waiting for their turn.

An amazing venetian fountain in the middle of the old town, with drinkable water to refill your bottles and cool yourself off during a hot summer day. Might get overcrowded with tourists during high season.

Very busy place even during week as so many tourists around. There are some nice restaurants at this place. You can get any dishes from ice cream to local kebabs called Gyros.

The well looks very nice, and old and venetian. A cool place to make fotos and enjoy a decent cup of coffee.

Beautiful fountain, hidden in the middle of the city, surrounded with narrow streets and fancy stores.

Really nothing special aside from the history behind it. The most exciting parts are the numerous shops and restaurant around. When we arrived there were toddlers playing inside so we couldn't even take photos. Very crowded area as well.

Nothing to be crazy about yet located in the middle of old town with fancy restaurants and shops.

Found this place while walking round the old town we had stopped at a bar when I noticed the three fountains but they were dry, which was a shame as the last time I was there people were filling water bottles from them.

Nice history. The guide books makes much more of it than it is.

  • 3/5 Christian S. 1 year ago on Google
Pretty crowded. The tavernas next to it are so close that the seated customers are blocking the view.

Interesting part of the old town leftover from the venetian days. Unfortunately there is no water in the fountain now.

What a beautiful town. The narrow streets, lined with shops and restaurants are amazingly beautiful. The food is great, and the people are wonderful. Rimondi is the perfect vacation spot if you are in Crete.

Lovely little fountain in the middle of town. With great intricate work from the 17th century with intricate corinthians columns

  • 5/5 Danielsen R. 2 years ago on Google
Another "have to see" place. Lot of tourists using their mobile phones for taking pictures. Nearby cafe's is a good thing. Photographing tourists is for me more interesting than the fountain!
