We too were caught in this authentic trap. The menu displayed is closed (you can only see the appetisers page) and quickly the waiter (or should I say, “con artist”) convinces us to sit down by showing us a menu with only images and promising great food. Once we sit down, they quickly convince us to drink a supposedly good wine (which is just plain). And this "traps" us to the place. When we finally get to see the menu we find that the prices are ridiculously high. The food when it comes, and forgive my frankness, is simply poor. It was only then that we came to read the reviews and were in shock: what happened to us is exactly what you read here. In the end they make up an excuse that they are out of card service and make us pay with cash. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED! DO NOT GO THERE. The location is beautiful, which makes the experience even sadder.

This is the most terrible place I have ever visited! DO NOT GO THERE! This is where you go if you want to be robbed of your money for nothing! You are talked onto the terrace with nice words and as soon as you are seated you are caught and the scam starts!! First you are asked what you want to drink and only when you have this you get the card and you see the exorbitant prices on the card! You pay at least twice as much as in a regular other taverna. And when you get it on your plate you will be very disappointed. It was really inedible and my full plate of food was taken back to the kitchen. No one of the staff asked why and only a receipt was thrown on the table. Unbelievable! We should have read the reviews, but we were to late. The waiter is also unfriendly, brings you a bottle of water while smoking and constantly yells at his colleagues. NEVER AGAIN!! No stars is a better option in this case…

We were lucky, kind of. The waiter is rude and it is a typical tourist trap. Why we were lucky? we have read the reviews 1 minute after ordering the food. We immediately cancelled the order and paid just for the drinks (overcharged) after short argument with the waiter who, of course, wasn't happy with this. We went to the nearby taverna and food was excellent

En Plo restaurant had a great location in Chania's old town and appeared welcoming with live music and a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, I had not read the reviews of the restaurant in advance and was caught in this tourist trap. I felt pressured to order drinks before seeing the menu by an unfriendly waiter. The menu appeared somewhat boring and the dishes were overpriced compared to the general price level in Chania. I chose to order pork baked in foil. The dish was served after approx. 20 minutes. The portion was not generous and was boringly presented. The piece of meat was stringy and difficult to eat and the side dishes had little taste. The food was by far the worst and most expensive I have eaten in Greece. The staff were generally rude and unfriendly. When I had to pay I was told in a condescending way that they only accepted cash payment. I will never visit the place again and do not encourage anyone to visit this place. It is my worst restaurant experience ever.

By far the most expensive meal we ever had in Greece, and it was not worth the price. The food itself was ok, but below average. The prices on the bill didn’t correspond to the prices on the menu, this is on purpose. Bill came out to 55€ for 2 people. The setting was however very nice, which is how they draw you in. For that reason I recommend that you go somewhere else.

Bad service, bad manners, extremely rude and the food was awful. We sat there because there were nice live music and the scenery was nice but... We are Greeks and especially from Chania, the food there is neither Greek nor Cretan. Don't waste your time or money. People there don't know how to serve or treat people.

100% tourist scam. They literally served us stale shrimp with canned pasta sauce from Lidl. The waiter pushed drinks down our throats even before we go the chance to properly sit down. Also charged a random 3€ fee for absolutely no reason, that was added to our fab before any other item we ordered??? Simply avoid at all costs. I feel bad for the cats even.

Keep away it’s a scam place we was there last night me and the wife and 4 women on the table at the side of us said to us beware these guys have tried to out in our bill much more than we had. They also offered them a free cocktail if they went in but they never got it. We had a Greek salad a kebab and a beer and glass of wine and it came to 59 euros and when we checked the bill I noticed there was 6 items in the Greek written bill when we only had 4 items when we challenged the boss of this dive he said no no you had all these you must pay us. I strongly recommend that you keep away from this place as it very easy could end up much worst for you. These guys are not mucking around they want your money and as much as they can get from you.

Avoid this - we were also drawn in by this ‘authentic’ trap. There is no signage - probably because all the reviews are so bad and they are fully aware they are conning people. The location is beautiful, which is how they manage to draw you in. The food is poor and ridiculously overpriced. The service is even worse…and that’s saying something. It’s such a shame to waste an evening in this place when there are so many fantastic restaurants to choose from.

If I could give them zero, I would! Food is terrible, prices are shameless! We paid 74 euros for plate of meat for two, 1dl or white wine, and one bear. I don't know why we didn't googled it before, as we usually do. Please don't be a fool as we did!

We were asked in by the tout to step in for a glass of wine. We told him explicitly that we don’t want anything to eat because we just ate the dinner - he insisted that we would step in just for the wine anyway. Ok so we did - we were quickly served with the wine and after that a weiter asked what do we want to eat. Ofc we told him that we only wanted wine, so he got offended and told us that we shouldn’t get in only for the wine because it’s a dinner time… :) after that they charged us 7€ for the house wine instead of 5.6 as was in the menu. I didn’t want to argue for 1.4€ but will just leave this comment instead :)

If you want to feel like every other restaurant in Chania is a 5 star restaurant, go to En Plo. Terrible service had us waiting for a while and when we finally got our food everything was either undercooked or overcooked by far. The prices are insane and you don’t even know it until after you order your drinks and they give you a menu. The server got combative when we had to split the bill among us was absolutely no help at all. Absolutely do not go to this restaurant or you will regret it.

Worst and most overpriced food I have had in Greece. Loored in by a nice enough atmosphere, but then after we ordered and sat down (around 9 pm) they turned off the music and started clearing all the tables and tidying up to close, very unwelcoming. The food was mediocre at best, but they charge as much as some of the best restaurants in crete. The food is far from it. (10.80 for a small salad, and 18.50 for a simple souvlaki) A small glass cheap wine cost 4.90 when in most places you can get half a litre for that price. Ripoff tourist trap.

Tourist trap!!! We got lured in because of the nice atmosphere. It's a very pretty looking place and the waiter was pushy but amicable. We just wanted to look at the menu first but he sat us down so we felt like we had no choice. Food was very mediocre and overpriced as others have stated. My partner ordered some wine which was ridiculously overpriced and not very good. In addition to that the nice atmosphere was ruined by the restaurant staff packing up all the outside tables around us. It made me personally very uncomfortable. Do not go there, many better restaurants for better prices.

STAY AWAY! I usually look places up and wish I had. We were hungry and they were very pushy - we should have left so that’s our fault. The food was inedible and so expensive that I’m embarrassed to type it out. We didn’t eat any of it, paid and left. As other reviewers have said they practically man handle women walking past the restaurant (they block your path and try to force you to sit). This place brings shame to a lovely city. Huge scam and if you eat here you will have to live with the regret from either not passing this place up or not getting up to leave when you had a feeling it was a dumpster fire. You would be better off starving than going here.

Sorry, can't say I can recommend this place either. Should have read the reviews beforehand! We have been eating FANTASTIC Greek food att Beeraki - go there instead!!! Cheaper, MUCH more tasty - like best of home made - a little extra "on the house" for dessert as well, and many times a tiny bottle of raki, also on the house. Super service, super good food. Turn around and take a 12 minute walk to Beeraki, just by the sea. Enjoy!!!

TURIST TRAP! The location is kind of charming with the live music...but: The staff is very aggressive and pushy and kind of force you to sit down. They try to add (by suggesting) as many items to your order as possible. Make sure you read all the menu and pricing before ordering anything. Prices are higher than average and the food is very forgettable... Our waiter was very friendly, and so were the cute cats walking around the tables.

I'd give it a 0 if I could. Worst gristly lamb chops I've ever had in my life. Disgustingly rude waiter. Then told me after he brought the bill for $26 euro that the credit card machine is having problems (which he neglected to mention when I arrived and which is likely a lie). He said he only takes cash but said he didn't have the right cash to make change so offered me change that was 4 euros short and said "here is that okay?". I was so angry I stood there waiting and refused to leave. Lo and behold he miracously found the rest. Needless to say - no tip for them. The place should be closed down, it is wasting prime real estate and reflects badly on Chania. The menu didn't even have the restaurant name on it. Now I know why. Oh and they have no wifi but that's the least of their problems.

The place and the atmosphere is beautiful. Live music. All these were spoiled with rude waitress. We ordered 1 portion of lamb with vegetables and were given 2 instead. In the end the bill for 2 people came out 78€ for a bottle of wine and 2 dishes. The most expensive dinner we had on Crete, doesn’t worth the money .

A complete rip off and a lie. I asked for fried halloumi cheese and was very specific about it. The waiter confirmed its availability and all. They ended up serving me a frozen mozzarella cheese and they had the audacity to tell me that they thought it’s halloumi 😂😂😂

We went there with a group of friends and were directly requested to order drinks due to a supposed peak hour. Then, some waiter quickly explained the menu by giving us almost the order to order some dishes only. Finally when we get the menu we saw that the price was very expensive in addition to the waiter general unkindness. When he came back to order the main meal and we said that we only want to leave and pay our drinks he shockingly said «that’s why I request to order drinks before viewing the menu » meaning that je knew that due to the conditions mainly leave. Then we get a bill whose amount was incredibly high compared to the menu. We asked why and the waiter came back with a new note whose amount was still to high but we decided to pay in order to leave. But then we were asked to pay cash !!! We protest and the waiter quickly take us aside to avoid a turmoil in front of all customers.

I don't understand how some inspection doesn't close that tavern!? Blam for an otherwise wonderful city and beautiful island. Poor thieves! They charge for something you didn't order, the service is a disaster....I've never seen anything like that in Greece

DO NOT GO THERE. Rip off’s and terrible food. Every restaurant that we had been to in Chania was gracious, delicious and outstanding. This one was beyond awful. The owner tried to engage us as we were walking by saying that his mother and brother are the cooks. We really just wanted a couple of salads which are hard to screw up given how naturally excellent the produce is in Greece. The presentation was awful, the lettuce wilted, nothing tasted as it should. They charged 9 Euro per plate where everyone else charged 6 Euro, 3 Euro for two little bottles of water that we did not ask for and a 3 Euro “cover charge” which I later found out by speaking to another establishment was an illegal charge. It was just awful to be taken advantage of in a country that is otherwise known for their hospitality.

Awful tourist trap - felt very silly having been caught by it. Only read reviews after waiting 45 minutes for our drinks (after the meal was eaten). Food was edible, but expensive for the small amount. Bad service. Don’t be taken in by the front of house staff forcing you to sit down.

We were lucky. The restaurant appears to try and hide its name (name is not written on the menue) in order to avoid people reading the reviews when they go into the trap. We managed to find out by the time 27€ worth of very large drinks were on the table. To avoid further disappointment we paid as fast as they let us and off we were to a decent other restaurant.

We were sat down at a not so great table, and the waiter promised he would switch us up as soon as there was room. One minute later, there was a free table at a better spot where he sat some new guests down instead of us. We ordered drinks that came fast, but my husband beer was warm. We also ordered tzatziki only. Thirty minutes later, we still hadn't gotten our tzatziki. We told the waiter that we wanted to pay for our drinks and leave, and he had the audacity to tell us that the kitchen had already started preparing our food, and that we couldn't cancel. We reminded him that we had ordered only tzatziki, and he came with the bill of a shocking 17 euros for beer and cola zero. We paid and left, the waiter treated us like air when we passed him. AVOID this place.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I gave an extra star for the poor bus boy, who was very polite and lovely and did his job well. All the rest of the staff are arrogant and rude. Location is excellent and very cosy, but over cooked, dry chicken was a huge dissappointment, and the staffs behaviour made things from bad to pretty much the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. They forgot our water, and when we asked after it, they tried to charge us double for them. Half way through our meal we ordered more zatziki and some garlic bread and when it came time to pay, they brought us 2 slips and said we cannot pay the whole sum with one card... They tried to get us pay one slip with a card and other one with cash. Sure, I can understand that it might be for tax reasons that every slip must be paid separately, but why did we have two slips in the first place? Because we ordered more food in the middle of our meal? Very odd. After all, they did pay us back for the extra waters, but still kept on making us feel like it is our fault that we had to make two transactions and refused to pay anything with cash. And yes, we did tell the bus boy what we thought about the food, and he said he knows... We felt so bad for him, because he pretty much did everything, when others basically just pushed people in tables and force fed the menu and collected the money. It is not enough that you say the fish is extra fresh or this and that food is very good. Make it so then, make the food atleast edible! The person who brought us our bill had the nerve to ask us to leave the tip on the table, who asks for a tip? I will tip when I feel like the staff has earned it, but when the food is not good and every staff member, except for the poor bus boy, are rude and pushy, there is no way in hell I will tip them. I can almost quarantee, that the bus boy will not get any of the tips, so if you feel like us, that he is the only one, who deserves any kindness, please tip him directly and make sure, the other staff will not see.

DO NOT COME HERE. We are 3 young girls travelling and were practically manhandled in here for a drink with a horrible manager touching our backs. The drinks were absolutely disgusting and we refused to pay as we didn’t drink more than a sip - we were then shouted at and made to feel guilty because they ‘need to pay taxes’ - we are also students and can’t afford 33 euros for a couple of drinks that we didn’t touch. Eventually had to pay 10 euros as we were genuinely scared they wouldn’t let us go - AVOID AVOID AVOID

The food is okay and the people are nice, however, the prices seem to be "variable" by the time you pay your bill... For example the chicken souvlaki on the menu is 11.80 but on the bill was 17.80. The prices are probably comparable to some other restaurants in the old town, but are otherwise about twice as much as you would find just outside of the wall and for smaller portion sizes. The quality of food was fine, but I can't say it is amazing, likely comparable to something I could make at home. The usual "bill experience" that you would get at other restaurants is lost here too, every other restaurant gives a small dessert and a spirit (raki or ouzo), here they just give you your bill and tell you the machine doesn't work from your table, and tell you to pay cash.

WARNING....the worst choice you can do in Chania and maybe in your life, never stop here, don't fall into owners trap , he will try to bring you into his restaurant. It's the first time I didn't checked the reviews of an restaurant and now I'm sorry for it, but just because everything was perfect in Chania. The food it's terrible and very expensive (I think it's cooked by a blind chef) and the staff it's from another world (bad)!!!!! Vegetable pasta with one potato and it cost 9.5 Euro, my dog eats better than this. PS: to Google I ask you to please allow us to review this restaurant with 0 stars!!!

Nice location, but dirty glasses and expensive food. Drinks were priced pretty normally for the location. Waiter starts of with taking drink orders without giving a you a card. Don't go for the 'large' beer, if you don't want to drink 1 liter instead of the normal 0,5L. After seeing the menu, we didn't feel like eating there anymore. Finished our drinks and left for a different restaurant.

Visited with a friend for a bottle of wine. This is our common opinion about the place. Pretty rude and pushy waiters, not listening to what we wanted, trying to convince me that a can of soda is the same as a bottle of sparkling water. Overpriced compared with similar Taverns nearby. A place to AVOID.

Do not Go here. They dont take credit cards. Told to go to nearest ATM to get cash to pay for meal. No prices on menu at entrance and will rush you into ordering drinks before you get a chance to see menu. Food only ok but not worth the price. When we asked what €3 at top of bill we were told it was a surcharge. Half bottle of water €1.50. Fish souvlaki , €23.60. Chicken dish €17.50. Beer €5.50. Wine 1/2 Litre €7.00. Very disappointing for our last meal in Chania. Much better restaurants nearby. Location and musicians are probably what entices people in but would avoid at all costs. Waiters very unpleasant and rude if questioned about menu or prices. Sorry I hadn't read other reviews before going here but our experience was very much the same as other . Star rating minus zero

Scam we ordered an aperol and we paid 11 euro for one that came in one ice cream glass and the wine glass was 5 euro but the worst local wine. Good we did not eat here. They need to be shot down or to call authorities.

Avoid this place. We were really tired and overheated so we decided to stop for something to eat. The waiter was very intensive asking us to sit down and order. When we asked about vegetarian food he said they have many options - there's only 2 actually. When we asked for tap water he brought back mineral water (small 0,5l bottle we paid 1,50 euro for). We ordered Briam and vegetarian Moussaka. When the Moussaka came it was with meat and not vegetarian so we didn't eat it of course, but at least we didn't have to pay for it. Briam was really tasty and well made but our overall experience there was horrible. We didn't get a receipt at the end of our meal and we were also shortchanged for something like 2 euros. There's a lot of cute cats hanging around and the place is pretty - so have a look when you go by and then have a meal somewhere else.

What is this place lol. We ran away after having a salad (13EUR for a few pieces of vegetables, cooked potatoes and old bread) and some terrible house wine. 2 stars because I liked the vibe and we didn’t spend a fortune there.
