This is very famous pagoda in Mandalay city. Most people come to see the budda which is now very big due to gold leafs. The Mahamuni buddha is over 12 feet tall and is gold coated. It is the main attraction but there are others which include mural and historical paintings, stone inscriptions, bronze statues, traditional handicrafts, a library and a drum tower. Only men are allowed in the most sacred part inside but there is a video screen where you can see the inner sanctum.

This is an amazing temple to be in. There is a K5000 entrance fee for foreigners. This temple has got so much gold in it's interior and exterior that it looks so magnificent. Here, you get to witness devout worshippers apply gold leaf on the buddha statue. There's a video live stream as well as women are not allowed near it. There's also a bronze statue museum on-site with English explanations and an art gallery which details the faith in Myanmar. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

Wow, what an interesting place. Unfortunately, you can't actually see the gold leaf Buddha, but they do have pictures of it at various years going back to 1935 so you can see the transition as it gets more and more gold leaves on it. The surrounding building is pretty impressive too. It seems to be a very holy place for people so please be respectful here.

Better to go there by early morning or late in evening. But, in afternoon, your feet gonna be burnt as you have to walk bare feet in pagoda premises. And, can’t wear shorts or singlets or skirts. Proper attire is recommended before heading there. But, pagoda is breathtaking.

This place is magnificent. It is very crowded. You can see the men applying gold on the statue while the woman only can sit far from the statue.

The Pagoda is clean and exquisite. You can pray and donate. You can also feed to fish and tortoises at garden in this pagoda area. Be aware that one cannot wear shorts or skirts, dresses to visit. Bring a longyi for ladies or long pant. I didn't see any panhandlers near pagoda area at this time and people are no longer bothered for this.

My first stop in Mandalay was here at Maher Myat Muni Pagoda. As always you must leave your shoes, etc. and walk barefoot. You walk past many merchants selling goods before getting to the pagoda. Here you must pay camera fees, but they don't apply to mobile phone cameras. Here only males can enter the central area with the big Buddha statue. I was ask by a local woman to present an offering on here behalf which is common.

Ancient tradition refers to only five likenesses of the Buddha made during his lifetime; two were in India, two in paradise, and the fifth is the Mahamuni Image in Myanmar.Legend holds that the Buddha himself visited the Dhanyawadi city of Arakan in 554 BC.King Sanda Thuriya requested that an image be cast of him. Once complete, the Buddha breathed upon it, and thereafter the image took on his exact likeness

My trip to Mahamuni Pagoda in Mandalay, Myanmar, was a remarkable journey that provided a profound glimpse into the spiritual and cultural essence of this enchanting country. Upon arrival at the pagoda, the atmosphere was immediately filled with a deep sense of devotion and reverence. The Mahamuni Buddha image, adorned with layers of gold leaf painstakingly applied by devout worshippers, stood as a testament to the unwavering faith of the people. Witnessing the rituals and offerings made by local Buddhists allowed me to connect on a profound level with their spiritual traditions. The gentle murmur of prayers created a serene ambiance that was both calming and spiritually uplifting. Exploring the surrounding area, I had the privilege of observing skilled artisans practicing traditional bronze-casting and marble carving, showcasing the rich cultural heritage that Mandalay embodies. My visit to Mahamuni Pagoda transcended the role of a mere tourist experience; it evolved into a spiritual pilgrimage, a profound encounter with Myanmar's cultural soul. It left an indelible mark on my heart, fostering a deep appreciation for the country's traditions and the enduring power of faith.

The historical place with famous Buddha statue in the old Myanmar Kingdom's capital. You can visit as a pilgrim or historical researcher to this place. You could see a lot of antique and historical items in the museum and in the pagoda compound.

Such a great temple with great spiritual ambience! Mornings are preferable to visit the temple as it's cooler with fewer pilgrims. The Buddha image of this temple receives face washing with scented water at dawn around 5 a.m. everyday. You can go witness this ceremony of face washing if you can wake up early enough. Rise 'n shine! Be happy!

One of the top-rated places to go in Mandalay. Full of golden architectures inside the temple. The face washing Mahamuni Buddha ritual will start around 4 A.M. daily. You can check it out.

Maha Myat Muni Pagoda is located in Mandalay. That pagoda will be one of the most powerful pagodas to reach Mandalay. At that temple, you can still pay a fish meal after making a pilgrimage. If you have never been to that pagoda after arriving in Mandalay, it is the same as if you had never been to Mandalay. Mandalay has a strong history and was once the capital of Min Nay Pyi Taw.

I had my time remembering the preaching of Buddha. Learning and still learning how to stay quality life.

I’m not a Buddhist, but I could feel the energy of this temple. The entrance fee is only 5000 mkk and you can visit the temple and exhibitions around it. The statue inside is the original image of Buddha.
