New Mexican spot in Huntersville. This is the old Chico’s restaurant that went upscale Mexican and expensive with terrible food, then went out of business……… Mezcali is above average Mexican food with very, VERY moderate prices. We were super impressed with the pour of Tequila in the Margarita Special! If you want syrup, please visit the spot off Exit 25 (see my review)! I went with the Carnitas Plate. Meat was very tender and flavorful, large serving size. I order corn and flour tortillas, I am not sure which I like better, both very hot and yummy. It is a solid 3.5 or 4 —- bonus star for heavy pour and awesome service. Order the spicy salsa, it has a kick. But, not a super nasty burn, a very flavorful burn. You can mix it with the regular to suit your person spice index. Service was spot on, our gal took care of us. The manager checked on us. Lots of booths and tables……. My only gripe - WHAT IS UP WITH THE ULTRA BRIGHT LEDs? Please tone it down.

Wow, the food was way more than I ever expected. The place was completely remodeled from the last Mexican joint that was here as well as the menu. If you can’t find what you’re looking for here you never will anywhere else. Wife’s burrito was enormous and the Ultimate Dinner I ordered filled the plate and my belly! Really appreciated the flavor and spices. Guaranteed that we will be back soon!

We were long fans of chicos, and now there is an even better place to pick up the mantle! With good drink deals, awesome food and friendly staff this place is worth a visit! The asada and carnitas were so good we forgot to take pictures before we started eating. Salsa and chips are fresh, too. Met an owner john who was super nice and our server estaphanie was very attentive. Even the bar tender had great energy and suggestions. Can't wait to come back!

Did an order to go….The service is fantastic. The staff is super sweet and extremely attentive. Restaurant itself was clean, bright and inviting. They did reuse the prior restaurant fixtures. However. They are all freshened. Paint, vinyls, table surfaces. All nice and clean. Food. They have good flavors. Actually really good flavors. My fajitas were chicken mixed with steak. The meat flavor was great. The peppers and onions were super fresh. They forgot my flour tortillas. Chips were nice fresh and again good flavor. Two salsas….chunky is very hot. Burrito was tasty but wet…really wet. Had to eat with knife and fork. Prices were acceptable. $30 plus tip for two without alcohol.

I just returned to Mezcali for lunch. I had chicken chimichanga and husband had chorizo taco….muy bien!!!! Food very hot coming out of kitchen. Menu has great lunch specials. Service still great. This restaurant is a keeper. Mezcali just opened in the Food Lion Plaza off Gilead Road. We had lunch there and I believe with a few tweaks in the food, this restaurant could be a winner. Service great, restaurant really clean, the spicy salsa…really spicy. The regular salsa…good. The food was very tasty…I wish it would have been hotter. Too much cheese in chili Relleno but that could be personal preference. I look forward to going back and trying margaritas. I hope it’s freshly made. Worth going to this restaurant. I hope they make it!

Workplace holiday party planned here and they were very accommodating. Great drink specials and good service. We all (16 of us) ordered a variety of food fare and all were quite pleased with their choices. A great place to share a good tiime with friends.

Good food, good service. Margaritas were flavorable and decent tequila kick after two. I ordered a #7 - chile relleno and cheese enchilada. I got the cheese sauce ($1.50 upcharge) and worth every penny. I asked for a molè sample and they provided, no charge. I’m picky about my molè and I’d like it to be thicker and more chocolatey (7/10). $40 for my dinner, 2 margaritas and an extra cheese enchilada. Will definitely return as it’s in the neighborhood and a great and needed addition. Nice ambiance. If you dine in, ask to be seated on the bar side. I sat by the door and it was chilly.

Excellent! Not the best Mexican food I've ever had but very very good.
