Super customer service, felt like having your own chef at the table! Knowledgeable enough about the food and wine to whet our lunch appetite. Gastro pub food was interesting, introduced to new kinds of dishes. Superb desserts!

You may think this is a pub, but it doesn't have the typical pub optionsand you will be impressed with the food, amazing wine list and great service. It is conveniently located under 10 minutes walk from Waterloo Station. This is the perfect place to meet people that live around London and enjoy amazing food. I highly recommend the lamb neck. And all the desserts were great as well.

It's really a restaurant, visited on Sunday, when it has the feel of eating in a French family restaurant in Provence, especially with the classic French food . Fish was wonderfully fresh , the beef full of flavour. A lot of butter is used in the cooking, but it was delightful , even the potatoes had a wonderful flavour. No fuss, very efficient and friendly waiters. Recommended.

We made reservations for The Anchor & Hope’s Sunday Lunch and we had a fabulous dinner, choosing from their very special menu. If you are inclined to share meals, they offer unusually large portions that will likely provide more food than two or three people could eat. One of my friends ordered the Roast Aged Beef Rump, which is one of their most popular entrees. In addition to the main courses, they also had wonderful desserts! I loved their prune ice cream!

I had the steamed cod which was very good with some chips. The chips were very hope and tasty. The service was good my only complaint was that my custard was runny. They offered to give me a different dessert but i just didn’t eat the custard.

Really enjoyed our dinner. It’s possible to book now, which is great. Huge choice of dishes, many vegetarian too. Long wine list and plenty of non alcoholic beers too. Loved the soufflé ! Our waitress was super friendly and took her time with us despite the venue being packed

Excellent meal at The Anchor and Hope last night. Lovely old school pub vibes with excellent, well sourced and delicious food. Service was brilliant- efficient, not rushed and extremely friendly. I can’t fault the place! The pie to share was off, but we managed to find two other delicious mains that made us grateful that it was. Yes, it is quite pricey, but it is quality all the way. Will definitely be returning!

We chanced it for a lunch here with our little baby - the anchor and hope made us feel like real adults again! We had grouse lasagna and a big pork chop, simple greens and good bread and butter with a glass of wine. You could tell the food was made with love - delicious, saucy, comforting on a cool autumn day, no pretensions but still elevated and elegant. Our daughter slept long enough for us to eat uninterrupted and she loved meeting the kind chefs too! Thanks so much for a perfect lunch ❤️

I have been going to the Anchor and Hope for years and IMHO I have never had a bad meal. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the food is always top notch. On this occasion I tried the bisque followed by the steamed halibut with spinach. As I was feeling a bit indulgent I finished with a pear and rhubarb tart with clotted cream. I honestly believe the food quality here is better here than many a more prestigious restaurants and the value for money is really good. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the Waterloo / Southwark area.

Had a nice Sunday Brunch here of cocktails, soup and an amazing plate of squid cooked in it's ink served with delicious homemade polenta. All of our dishes were nicely prepared and the service was fine with no issues. All in all a very good brunch in a very nice area of central London.

We totally enjoyed the Sunday roast, buttered cabbage and the cheesecake. Great recommendation from staff (sorry forgot to ask for the name but thank you!).

The food we had on the day was a slightly salty. Nevertheless was not bad. I expected a little bit more preparation on the parma ham and melon starter though.

Lovely lovely food… the beef just melted in my mouth…my only grumble that dropped this to a 4 was potentially the portion size (maybe I’m greedy) and the front door being permanently open made the restaurant pretty chilly… Hadn’t anticipated eating food on a Sunday with my coat on.

Absolutely amazing gastropub. Everything we ate was delicious, creative, fresh and beautifully plated. The menu changes regularly, get whatever is fresh. You really can't go wrong. Friendly service with a bustling atmosphere. It's popular, so make a reservation in advance. Less of a tourist place, more where the locals go. Best meal we had in London.

££ Great array of exquisite food with lovely service. The outside area is simple and cute. I had the Rossini (prosecco, vodka and strawberry purée) which was lovely along with the lamb, taramasalata and peppers. They sell delicious bread by the local Little Bread Pedlar which they have a long history with. The taramasalata was my favourite as it is made in house and had so much depth! Our 2 servers were attentive and kind. The second time I came here, we ordered much more and shared several dishes. Everything was so good, even the vegetarian options but, I thoroughly enjoyed the pork belly in the cassoulet with a tie between the crème caramel or sticky toffee pudding with ginger ice-cream for dessert. Their selection of wine is really great with the food and they also do Monmouth Coffee here. Would definitely recommend 5*

Amazing wine list and delectable homey food. Service was warm and attentive. Hard to believe it is supposed to be a pub. Had a great night here.

Chris, our waiter, was an absolute gentleman who was passionate and knowledgeable about all of the delicious food and was excellent at giving fantastic service. The food was excellent - we got the terrine, bread, lamb shoulder to share and the chicken pie to share (four people + one dog), and the crumble. Plus a bottle of Prosecco, a bottle of Merlot and a few soft drinks. We’d totally recommend a visit, and we look forward to going again!

We spent the most brilliant evening at The Anchor and Hope last Friday. Food and service were both excellent, and we really appreciated that they didn't try and turn our table, allowing us a wonderfully relaxed evening to catch up with old friends. The sharing cassoulet and lamb dishes were the definite highlights. The only downsides were waiting a long time at the (empty) bar before any of the staff acknowledged us and allowed us to place a drinks order while we waited for our table to be ready, and being pushed into over ordering mains. The sharing cassoulet and lamb options, plus sides, would have been more than enough between six, but we were encouraged to add far more food than we needed.

Absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch. Party of 4 and three had the slow roast lamb while I had the souffle which was just delicious. Booking essential. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

What a nice discovery! I loved the food and the whole experience was enhanced by an impeccable service, informal yet very accurate and knowledgeable. The place can be very loud at certain times, mind you, but it's all part of this restaurant's spirit, I think. I'll definitely try to visit it again when in London.

A beautiful pub with excellent food. Because of the current regulations, all of the inside space is given over to tables with plenty of space between them. Some nice outdoor tables under an awning. The food is delicious and very seasonal. The staff are very friendly and efficient.

They’ve cooked the lamb for 7 hours and that’s pretty much it! Tasteless! So you ask for the good old mint sauce - get out of jail free card for tasteless lamb - and they don’t serve it🤣 I found this place from a google search for pub grub. See picture attached. Does it look like a pub to you. Moreover they sat us at the bar and then tried to charge £11 service charge for carrying plates 2 metres This place needs to admit it’s a restaurant. The cheapest wine is £30 but most are £50 plus

Good atmosphere but the quantity of the food not big enough for its price in my opinion. I don’t think I would go back unless for a drink if I am in the area

Very good gastropub on The Cut not far from Southwark tube station. Three cask beers on handpump when I last visited. A few tables outside some of them covered. On the latest visit, I was popping in for a quick pint before seeing a play at the Young Vic which is a few yards away. But the pub is primarily noted for its food offering.

Warm, efficient welcome. Great service, splendidly yummy food. We ate light but soooo much to like on the menu I’ll just have to come back and try it!

More bistro/restaurant than pub -this is hands down the best dining venue along the Cut, and beyond. Fantastic fantastic food, excellent and fast service, cosy and unpretentious ambience. And legit and long wine list - how often do you come across a pub with a separate wine list for magnums, Burgundy and Jura?

We tried the Sunday roast. It was a little different from our expectation. This is not the usual Sunday roast with yorkshire pudding. It's different in a good way. You get two generous cuts of beef rump on a bed of summer beets which is on a bed of sliced potatoes. The fresh mustard at the side was fantastic with the beef. For dessert, we tried the lemon pot. It was very fine and delish too. We came abt 12.30pm on a Sunday. The tables were all reserved so we sat near the counter table. Service was prompt. And we appreciated the separate toilets which was spotlessly clean.

Superb food, had the lamb and the rabbit sharing mains in a group and highly recommend the lamb if it is on the menu. Excellent wine list, much more variety and choice than other good restaurants. Make sure you book, went on a Wednesday and it was very busy.
