Highly enjoyable museum. I thought the kinetic sculptures were fun to look at. Quick exhibits, there was the film room with the cool perspectives, super fascinating. Tickets are relatively cheap and worth the experience.

Bechtler is a pretty small museum with an interesting European photograph exhibit. The staff was very nice and tickets were inexpensive. However, I wasn't really wowed by much of the artwork. I wish there were more interesting pieces. But it gave me something to do on a rainy day in CLT. I'd recommend visiting.

Do not expect to spend much time at Bechtler. My wife and I love going to museums and art galleries and we were excited to see what Bechtler had to offer. I don't think I've ever given a museum/art gallery a bad review but we were so disappointed by this place. We (thankfully) went while there was free admission. My wife and I spent a total of 20 minutes here. We saw both (yes, only 2 rooms) galleries and the lobby. We kept looking for additional rooms, because we couldn't believe we had seen the entire museum. I know the 4th floor often has special exhibits and maybe worth a visit if you're interested in a specific artist. We had set aside 2 hours for this museum and it took 20 minutes to see everything.

Closed on Tuesdays. $9 for adults. Smallish collection but great way to spend an hour or two. Heather was super knowledgeable.

Really cool museum! The artist spotlight during my visit featured a multi screen video performance that was incredible. I really enjoy the salon style permanent collection as well.

What an unexpected surprise. If you like modern art it doesn't get any better. Elegantly curated with a fantastic collection. The museum is not too big so you don't have to be overwhelmed and allows you to spend enough time enjoying this unique collection. Highly recommended!

This museum was small, but beautiful. I really enjoyed the Warhol exhibit and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I spent part of a layover walking around and found this a nice place to relax.

Visited with our granddaughter. Some Picasso artwork is displayed. Three floors of artwork and a small gift store. Restrooms are on the first floor only. Parking garages in area as well other museums and places to eat. This particular day it was open free to the public.

Quite an interesting place. It not only has modern art pieces by various artists but also an exhibit about the influence of modern art on the architecture of the building, particularly the clay shingles. The prices are low and you can easily spend a few hours. This place is definitely worth checking out. My favorite work is certainly the living piece on the first floor.

Located in a beautiful part of Uptown. The main Picasso exhibit on the 4th floor is thought provoking with many interesting pieces.

The front desk was so helpful and informative for our first visit! The museum itself is pretty small, but the current Warhol/Basquiat exhibit is what we came for and it was excellent. They also present a lot of art from styles and eras that most museums in North Carolina and the South in general don’t, so that was cool. Can’t beat it for the price!

Visited the museum on a Sunday with friends from out of town and we definitely enjoyed our time there looking at the beautiful art exhibit and cool videos. Cool view of the city’s skyscrapers too.

Enjoyed our visit. Three floors of exhibits to see. Surprised it was smaller than the Mint museum, thought they were the same size, but glad we went.

The staff was friendly. We went on a Saturday and it was not at all crowded. We were able to fully enjoy each exhibit. It was perfect museum trip. Our favorite was the exhibit on Flora Mayo.

We didn't go in the museum, but we did take a picture of the sculpture outside. If the inside was as interesting as the building's architecture, I'm sure it's worth checking out!

Beautiful museum that often hosts free admission nights and events. My fave is the jazz nights in the lobby, great way to end a work wk with some live jazz. Went in a Wednesday night and they had free admission and live entertainment and food trucks on the front courtyard area. Was a lot of fun and great to see the art exhibits.

The staff was pleasant. The bathrooms were clean. The museum has multiple floors but museum's number of art pieces is closer to that of a large gallery than a museum and it only has modern art, so I would only recommend it for those that really like modern art. Otherwise, it's not really worth a visit.

The Music and Museum events could be wonderful. The events involve accomplished and renowned artists providing commentary regarding the connections between art and music, but the execution of the events is very poor. Staff are not properly trained in operating a PA system. As a result you are not likely to be able to hear any commentary given by guest lecturers or artists. I have complained twice to the Executive Director at the events. He has apologized to me personally and the crowd as a whole, but no indication was given that any steps will be taken to train the staff. He laughed it off as "our expertise is visual arts, not sound". Regardless of your area of focus, if you are charging people for events that include auditory content you should take the auditory portion of the event seriously. During my last two visits the vast majority of the audience could not hear the artists speaking at all. As a result the composers immediately gave up on using the non-working microphone and shouted at the audience as best they could. The rest of the museum was open, and they failed to block off those exit doors, so you had museum goers unknowingly exiting into a chamber music performance with loud doors interrupting the performance.

A great place for modern art, the Bechtler is located right in Uptown Charlotte along the Levine Avenue of the Arts (attached to Knight Theater and across the avenue from The Mint Museum). It is also the location of the “Firebird” sculpture, created by Niki de Saint Phalle — it’s a definite photo op if you are in Charlotte! Our recent visit to the museum centered around the “Jazz at the Betchler” event — the first Friday of each month with two shows at 6 and 8:15 pm. (See video with review!) We also tend to visit whenever we hear about a new art installation. Don’t miss the gift shop as it is great for creative and imaginative gifts!

You can tell that the folks that work here really know their craft and love the art. We were given some insightful tips on navigating the downtown art scene. I just wish there were even more pieces to look at. What we did see, however, was pretty neat.

I just want to share how much I appreciate the amount of attention I got from museum security. As the only black person in the building, I understood the assignment. can’t really be mad about it. Really it’s my fault for going. There are multiple 1 star reviews with people of color sharing their similar experiences.

This museum is the right size for its focus with four floors and four exhibit rooms. The theme has a natural focus on European, with a strong Swiss presence, of art between WW1 and mid 1900s, where the group of artists with pieces in this museum built on each other and tended to move in the same circles. The museum is well laid out and has wonderful pieces.

I feel like this is a great museum. As soon as we entered the front desk clerk was very nice and greeted us promptly and she also checked us out at the end from the amazing gift shop. The museum is definitely interesting and there was a wonderful woman with blue in her hair who was very attentive and interacted with everyone providing in depth knowledge and experience on everything we discussed. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for a great experience!

Super tiny art museum. Not small but tiny. Left in 15 min. Cannot compare to big city art museums in other US big cities, and never mind to Europe. Save your $9 and goto Mint across the street. Also their cafe closed. No food.
