This was an unexpected little area with some big boulders to climb on. My toddler had a great time. There are no designated parking, you just park on the side of the road near the sign. We spent about 30 minutes just walking and climbing on the rocks. If you have kids who loves to climb rocks then they might enjoy it.

Good spot to bring kids to play and climb. There's a combination of large and small rocks that can be climbed on. Beware - one rock is at least a 40-50 foot straight fall from the edge so supervise little ones. There are also trails along a creek. We saw several large hawks. The only real drawback is that you can hear cars on I-485 which like it's only a half mile away. I didn't see any restroom either.

We loved the preserve. We went on a Friday evening, and it was calm and peaceful. The big rocks that you see when you enter have a historical significance to them related to indigenous people who frequented this area often. It was insightful to learn about it. We climbed the big rocks and looked around for a while before continuing on the hike. The hike itself is mostly well-maintained, but the canopy makes the hike not very well-lit. Also we encountered quite a few insects flying in our faces as we were walking. The creek along the hike makes for a great companion as well. The small falls and the sound associated with it makes the hike all the more peaceful and meditative. The hike itself doesn’t take a lot of time and we were done in around 35-40 minutes. We parked our car on the street near the entrance of the preserve. The area is pretty quiet. Long story short: Is this the most beautiful hike in Charlotte? No. If you’re looking for a convenient hike in and around Charlotte to get some quick cardio, should you go here? Yes.

Short fun trip, with some really big rocks and a creek. You park on the street, near the park sign.

My son first went here with some high school friends, but I was not certain actually where it was. Turns out is is in the heart of Ballantyne, and worth checking out! Easy hike lest than two tenths of a mile round trip. Perfect on any occasion to appreciate the great outdoors close to home 😊

It's a great site to see a historical meeting place in Hunter/Gatherer times! I do wish there were defined parking spaces at the entrance/exit.

Nice place to visit once. The only problem with this pace is there is no public parking. Big Rock Nature Preserve is named for the granite extrusions that lie at the heart of the preserve. It contains the largest example of this geology in Mecklenburg County. The land is gently sloping, from 564 to 634 feet in elevation. The preserve is also dissected by 4-mile creek which separates most of the preserve from I-485.

Such an awesome little spot! Very short trail with a creek you can walk along and circle right back to the rocks.

Gem of a place in the middle of residential neighborhoods. Great natural walking 🚶‍♂️ trails and rocks for kids to climb. Street parking only. No restrooms.

Its just a nice little neighborhood Nature area that used to be home to a Native American Indian Tribe. It has some of the biggest rocks you will ever see in your life. Great place to take the kids they have a lot of fun climbing on the 6 huge rocks that are there. So if your in the nieghborhood its a great place to take the family.

Lovely little preserve tucked away in a Ballantyne neighborhood. Big rocks, as advertised. Lots of shade. Sedentary/ slow flowing stream. Bumpy, rooty path. Much improved over our first visit there. It appears tended to and well maintained. Well defined, earthen half mile trail.

Fun nature park to enjoy with the kids. Perfect to teach them how to enjoy nature, get them wondering about how the giant boulders got here, getting them active and climbing without a bunch of pads and safety nets, and having fun without electronics and screens. Very easy access, park on the side of the street near the sign and the boulders are about 100 feet down a well maintained dirt trail.

Very nice but small park. It’s very relaxing. My wife and I took a hike last week. Be careful as there are snakes close to the river. We saw couple of them lurking on the brim

One of my favorite places. It’s like a little mountain getaway…..with highway noises. But still. So gorgeous and peaceful.

Beautiful little gem for a morning nature walk. Parking was a little tricky the first time, but we found the signs that instructed us to park only on the street near the trailhead sign.

Great place to spend some alone time with nature or family. A true nature trail, walking on the forest floor. Minor hills. A near by creek. The main attractions are the groups of very large rocks. Bringing out the curiosity and wonder of how did they get there? Parking is along the street. There’s no restrooms. It’s very clean with no litter. Good place to spend a couple hours.

If looking for any sort of challenge, go elsewhere. This is basically a path through a small wooded area located between housing developments. The large boulders are interesting, but that's about 5 min and .2 miles of walking. Then you'll find yourself asking," Now what?". And the answer will be, trudge through this path that connects one section of houses to another. If you have little kids or just want a short stroll, this is fine, but for anyone else, you will find yourself wishing you went elsewhere.

The rocks are incredible! Amazing how such big boulders are located in the middle of a neighborhood. Parking is a little odd since it's on the street, but not that bad.
