Updated to add - holiday inn keeps apologizing for my comfort being affected. This isn’t just comfort, it’s safety. I have no idea what the fumes were coming from, only a blurry video my husband took while I was outside with the kids that shows maybe a can of paint thinner? It was something like paint thinner or a stain or varnish. It was certainly something that should have been done without guests in the hotel and with better ventilation. I am not exaggerating when I say the smell in the lobby was overwhelming and I could already begin to smell it in our room shortly after they opened whatever caused the fumes. I told the staff member at the front desk that I did not think it was safe for anyone including her and she did open the doors to the lobby. The fact that HI keeps focusing on “comfort” and not safety is concerning. The primary reason we left was for my family’s health. This is horrible. My family (including 2 young kids) was awoken by the sound of a sander. Yes, you read that correctly. I then told My husband that my throat felt funny and my daughter was coughing. He said he felt fine so I thought I was being paranoid… until I smelled fumes. Sure enough, they are staining or varnishing in the lobby right outside our room. The smell is so overwhelming. This is dangerous in general but could be life threatening for a baby! This is absolutely absurd.

This hotel is very accommodating and convenient to many stores and restaurants in the area. The staff were very accommodating and kind. The young lady that checked me in went above and beyond. The renovations to the rooms are great. I look forward to returning and seeing the renovations to the first floor. The breakfast was set up in the conference, but that did not affect the excellent quality and the service from the friendly attendant.

Overall a great hotel. Large rooms, especially for the price. Staff was great and had my key ready to go thanks to online check-in. Complimentary breakfast was fantastic. Relatively convenient location. Unfortunately, the pictures on the website aren't quite correct, there's no couches in the rooms.

Elevators were broken, pool and gym were closed. This would have been fine but we were not whatsoever informed of this. The TV only got one channel. The breakfast wasn’t very good. The fire alarms went off at 8 am and woke all of us up, when we called they said it was just a malfunction. Lobby completely torn to shreds. Once again, had we been informed before we got there that these things were unavailable we would have chose another hotel.

Listen, I manage a hotel. These people care. Our room was spotless and the employees truly care. Ti, second shift front desk, went out of her way to make sure we were cared for. I highly recommend this hotel in the Matthews area. So much so, I am ready to send my staff there for a lesson. FYI, my Inn has a 4.8 star rating, just saying.

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel was recently renovated. There is free breakfast. The staff was friendly. I’m not sure if we just get unlucky with the rooms we rent but we keep getting dirty bathtubs. I also noticed a couple of bugs (not bedbugs or roaches) in the bathroom.

Booked a room online with this establishment and it went smoothly. No complaints about the room. It was in a great location near the entrance. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The cleanliness of the hotel was spotless. The exterior as well as the interior. The location was convenient to where I had to go during my stay. Definitely will be back sooner than later.

We started this journey by finding a 4 inch beetle right in the doorway. We tried to ignore it, and went to the lobby, Right as we walked inside we were hit with the strong smell of urine and cigarettes, the entire place looks ghetto and i already wanna leave. The elevator makes a loud buzzing noise and looked like it was close to breaking down. The hallway smelled even worse, every time i breathed in it felt like i was breathing straight must. Our hotel room had a huge red stain and we had to get a different room because of that plus the putrid smell. The other room wasnt any better and still smelt awful. The hotel itself doesnt even look like a hotel it looks like a haunted motel from the 1900s. It feels super unsafe there, and the rude and ignorant employees dont make it any better. The bathroom smells like someone left a fat dump in there and the lights make an annoying loud buzzing noise. Right when i woke up, i had a horrible headache and i started seeing SMALL ITCHY RED SPOTS on my hand and arms and they just keep SPREADING. Im so paranoid and afraid its something serious, and I KNOW its from this bait hotel. This place is so dangerous and unsafe, it should be shut down. WORST place ive ever stayed at.

The hotel is very clean and hygienic. The interior is luxurious. Unfortunately, the breakfast is not rich enough. Front desk staff is very friendly. Prices are better online.

Celia and Deborah went up in beyond during my stay. I also got to know other staff members like Mariela that's the head of housekeeping. She's so friendly and accommodating. Those in the dining area as well were extraordinary. Highly recommend this location.

This is a nice Holiday Inn Express. Very convenient. Getting in and out was tricky because of the divided roadway. Staff was friendly. I am giving four stars for service because my room was not detailed very well. Other than that service was friendly. The lady in the breakfast area made me feel like I was in my home town diner.

I enjoyed my stay here. My job booked the room for me. I walked in and got the biggest hello and smile from James M. I complimented him on a fan he had and it was pure conversation from there. I could have talked to him all night and if I had not been tired from my drive, I would have. He has excellent customer service skills and you all are lucky to have him. The young lady he was with was sweet as well, but I don't remember her name. The hotel was clean. There were two bugs in my room, which I killed. I was upset at first, but when I didnt see anymore, I was okay. The room was clean so I figured maybe they came from a previous guest. I would definitely stay again.

Was not acknowledged as a platinum elite guest. The room was neat but it was not clean behind the sink water spigot and no release rod for the sink stopper. The roadway entrance was a little tricky to get to hotel.

Sorry for the length of this review, but it is a story worth reading. To begin when I checked in I had let the front desk know that I had lost my credit card in travel several days before and that Capitol One had issued me a virtual credit card. Now I had checked in to a Hilton and a Comfort Inn earlier in the week no problem, but this hotel would not allow me to do it. I had to use a different credit card and this being a business trip, trying to do the expense, as I anticipated, became an incredible hassle. I called the main number to ask about why IHG does not accept virtual cards when it seemed others had no problem with it. Apparently this went in as a complaint to the manager of the hotel. A couple days into my stay I went to swim in the indoor pool advertised as a "comfortable 81 degrees" on their website, but it was not heated and was closer to 50 degrees. I went to the front desk to tell them they should probably close the pool or at least put up a sign letting people know that it is frigid and could cause a problem for someone who has a pre-existing health condition. The front desk clerk smirked at me and said that no where does it say that it is a heated pool. When I said it was on the website she stated it was not. I then said, "ok, I'll make a bet, if it says it on the website you give me a three night stay and if not I'll pay you an extra three nights". At that point the manager on duty came out and he stated that there would be no free nights given. I replied stating that employees shouldn't state facts if they don't know what they are talking about. I called the main number again to this time make a complaint about the pool and the staff being rude about me trying to explain to them the problem. Later that night the "general manager" Cheryl, called me while I was out to dinner with my work group and stated that because I had complained twice she was going to make me check out of the hotel. I informed her that I would check out until the following day as I had already paid for the stay and in fact was not even at the hotel. She then kept arguing with me for over twenty minutes that if I continued to complain that she would kick me out. At no time did she offer to rectify or acknowledge my concerns, only threaten to kick me out. I have never had someone act so unprofessionally towards me in my personal or professional life. I will never stay at any IHG hotel again after this experience. I would rather use my Hilton rewards or even a Choice Hotel at this point.
