What a wonderful representation of the history of our town. I truly enjoyed walking through and listening to the guided tour. It was entertaining and educational. I highly recommend this for natives and newcomers!!

Overview: If you’re looking for a town treasure, look no further and be sure to check out the Fort Mill History Museum. Quaint and humble, this site speaks softly and carries a big stick of greatness! Parking: Two primary locations, the first closest is behind the building, coming from Confederate St, onto Main St you’ll find “hidden” parking behind the museum. The second closest is in the front across the street at the Organic Kitchen’s parking lot. Attractions: Multiple rooms with several artifacts and written stories about various locations and people from Fort Mill, namely the White and Springs families, as well as several others. The feeling you get from realizing the rich history of the town really provides a new level of appreciation and awareness. There’s also a great gift shop with books, ornaments, and hand made tributes to some of the town’s iconic locations. Staff: Extremely knowledgeable and welcoming, this group is full of class and personality. From the first greeting you knew you were in for a good time. Several stories can be shared and rich explanations that lead to further discoveries. So much can be said about the volunteer staff there, but it sums up to calling them close friends, if not, family. You may meet David, Pat, Sheila or other fantastic volunteer hosts. Price: Free admission which can’t be beat. Of course it’s always good to support the museums cause by way of monetary donations, filling in the visitor registration card, or making purchases of the many unique gifts. Bottom Line: Highly recommended that you make a stop to get familiar with the town and its rich history. The new appreciations you’ll have are priceless and you may make a new friend or two.

Visited 11/25/22. Very kind gentleman gave us a tour and talked about the history of how Fort Mill came to be. Free but appreciates donations. Enjoyed!

Free admission. The amount of information you learn can depend on who is volunteering that day. I went the first time and was just given the headset and explained what was available to look at outside the building. The second time there I had an entirely different experience. There was a man who knew so much history not included in the headset series and seemed to enjoy taking time with us.

What a great little place to visit. Very friendly and helpful staff. Self guided audio tour so look at exhibits at your own pace. A definite stop when in downtown Fort Mill.

We took our family group of 8, 5 of which were 16 and under. We have been history buffs for a long time and museum visits are a special favorite choice for family time, but we recently realized that we had never been to the one in our own hometown. This museum was small, but packed to the brim with history most of the books forget. The docents were enthusiastic, kind, and knowledgeable. They taught us more in an hour than we had known in over 20 years of living on the very "Mill Hill" featured in the museum! It was a beautiful experience and we hope to develop some kind of relationship with this museum in the future.

If you're interested in how Fort Mill developed throughout the twentieth century, then this is your place. If you're interested in the Civil or Revolutionary War, then you're better off online.
