Man, that was an amazing meal!! First and Foremost, huge 5 star shoutout to our server, Macie, who effortlessly navigated our questions and guided us to what ended up being the best meal I've had in quite some time. Starters were the Field Green Salad (best salad ive ever eaten) and tarte flambee (holy smokes that was amazing!!). Entree's were Veggie Ravioli and steak and shrimp (i ate the ravioli, superb, also, best spinach i have ever eaten). Desserts were carried home to go. Eat here! Dont wait, call, get your reservation, ask if Macie is working, if she is, she is a phenomenal guide!

Service was slow to start. We had a reservation but it took a while to get seated. We ordered the mussels and eggplant as an appetizer and for our entrees, we had the halibut and chickpea ravioli. The ambiance was really nice and the entrees were very good. My boyfriend enjoyed his mussels but I wasn’t a fan of the the eggplant frites and didn’t eat any of it past the first few bites. The honey glaze just made it too sweet and confusing as a dish.

This place was AMAZING, starting with Aaron accommodating my wife and I with a quality dining experience. The food was very well done, quality was noticeable. If you live in or visit Fredericksburg VA this is a goto for an exquisite meal.

We were a little disappointed in the service and appetizers; our server didn't bring an ice bucket for the wine and was just generally inexperienced. We ordered the foie gras and ended up to be a mousse, which we were not made aware of, plus it was served with what looked like Wonder Bread from a grocery store. We also had escargot, which was well cooked, but needed a break to go with it (not wonder bread!) The entrees, though were fantastic! I had the rack of lamb, which was exquisitely cooked and delicious even though the mint jelly was overpowering; the ratatouille and potatoes au gratin were both fantastic. My date got the halibut and was leary about the hollandaise with it but it went great with both the fish and the spinach risotto. We had the rum cake for dessert and it was amazing! Overall, I'll definitely go back, just have different appetizers.

We came in to celebrate our anniversary and walked out after spending $150 utterly disappointed. The foie gras was underwelming. The rack of lamb was distasteful, over-doused with dijon, lacked a sear, and the fat was unrendered and opaque. My wife's duck was dry and half the rice had dried into a clump. To be completely transparent, the waitress did offer to take it back when I voiced my distaste but (1) I didn't want to wait another hour for a new entree and (2) I refuse to waste food so long as it is edible. Don't anticipate returning. Next time we'll stick to our usual place across the street.

Fair warning: La Petite Auberge has habitually slow service. I'm not sure why other reviewers leave high ratings for such poor service--even the ones that directly mention their disappointment in the service, but the ratings are misleading. Please take the time to carefully read reviews if you're seriously considering this place for a special occasion. My family of 3 had a reservation for 7:30PM on Saturday, the weekend after Valentine's. When we arrived around 7:10PM, we stood in a line that didn't seem to move and go all the way out the front door. An elderly couple, who came after us, asked if we had reservations and if there's a way to check-in (besides standing in line) because they were already running late for their reservation. At the time, we were unsure and told them to go ahead instead, because we were early and had time. We were seated around 8PM, was given (unprompted) a small basket of 4 bread rolls ~8:15PM, served our 2 appetizers (one was cold) ~8:40PM, 3 entrees arrived ~9:30PM, asked for the check after eating half our meal ~9:45PM, and left ~9:50PM (forgoing dessert there and went to Sonic instead, because I asked about dessert availability and never got an answer). In the 50 minutes of waiting to be seated in the narrow hallway, this was what I overheard: According to the general manager, the 6:00PM reservations all came 30 minutes late due to parking issues. The same manager also claimed that everyone waiting was the last group of reservations and most of the tables had already paid, but were just chilling at that point, so we would be seated as soon as they left. Apparently, every day is busy, but that particular day was even busier because of all the Valentine's reservations and slow starts. Also, a customer leaving after their meal said they were told an oven broke and it took 50 minutes for them to get their entrees. Now, I have no idea what's true or false, because it seems to me that this place has always had slow/poor service (from past reviews that I've read). I'll try not to make this review too long, so here's a list of suggestions: 1. Don't leave tray stands in the narrow hallway where there's a line of people on one side waiting to be seated, because it impedes the flow of foot traffic. 2. Leave the tray stands in the private room when serving that particular room, because people can't be trusted to not knock over unattended plates of food left in the previously mentioned narrow hallway. 3. Check all menus before use, because I was given a menu that was missing an entire page (half of the menu missing). 4. If you're going to tell a customer that you'll check on our meal but not come back to update us, don't bother saying it without prompt (we did not once ask about the progress of our meal and patiently waited, considering what I overheard previously). 5. Hire better/more kitchen staff, because the amount of time it took for us to wait was simply ridiculous. Overall, the food was good (not great) for the price and portions, but not for the poor service. I debated heavily on what my rating should be, and decided that I wouldn't go back there again, not even to try their dessert (and that's saying a lot, because I always leave room for dessert) when they're less busy. If you have all the time and patience, or don't mind staring into the void every so often, for slightly above average quality food at slightly above average prices, then this place is for you.

Update: So absolutely unfortunate😢 So, I wasn’t going to post this, but I ordered the roasted chicken and the mussels entree to take out. I drove 35 minutes each way only to get back home to find my chicken cooked beyond being able to eat. When I called to let them know I was immediately met with “our kitchen is closing.” And then “we’ll what would you like for us to do?” Really? So they took it off of my credit card. The chicken was really inedible, but since this was my favorite restaurant in the area…I let it slide. Well, tonight I decided after being sick all week I wanted to treat myself with dinner out. I chose to come here rather than my other favorite place across the street (see my other reviews). Long story short. I ordered the halibut. My meal was brought out after my soup. I specifically asked that my meal be re-cooked when I finished my soup and not reheated for obvious reasons. Well… yup you guessed it. They reheated it. I asked for my server so I could pay the check, but they got the manager (Aaron) who took a long time to come over. When I explained my dilemma he kindly said, “we’ll take it off the menu for you.” Really? Of course you will. I didn’t eat any of it. When I flaked a piece off the fish had clearly dried out, and the risotto was greasy. Of course it was it was reheated and not stirred. He apologized, but it seemed like a formality. He did not ask if I wanted it prepared over, or if I perhaps wanted anything else. He wisked up the dishes and disappeared. So, so very unfortunate. Where am I going to find another French restaurant 😢 I will not tolerate poor service anywhere! By the way, I’m still hungry. Update: 6/21/2022. Dang! Even their take out is good. I ordered the mussels entree without the shrimp or linguine to go. And their hazelnut cake with butterscotch. This is truly my favorite restaurant in Fredericksburg❤️ They still have the plastic thank you bags though 😂 Original post: I almost don’t know where to start. I started with a Caesar salad. I asked if it is a “real” Caesar dressing. Not only was the answer, yes, but it is made in house. I had the half portion. It was perfect! I could eat it everyday. For my entree, I had the Calf Liver Lyonnaise. It literally melted in my mouth! Flavors, perfect! The potatoes were perfect! I ordered the Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake, which they also make in house, to go. I will update once I taste it. I had the pleasure of being served by Levi, who was pleasant and well versed on the menu, which was helpful. If you read my posts you know I HATE pretense. This place is so subtle! I didn’t expect this at all. My new favorite local place. The only improvement I would suggest they make is to ditch the plastic “Thank You” to go bags and invest in paper with handles. You guys are waaaayyy better than that.

Had a quick lunch at La Petite and can’t wait to go back. Really enjoyed the eggplant fries with goat cheese and honey! French onion soup was great, too. Great spot and nice decor.

I was there during restaurant week and got a full meal for a great price. I had one of the absolute best meals of my life and the staff was fabulous! My waitress turned out to be from my hometown!

Let me start off by saying. . . AMAZING! We went the weekend after Valentine’s Day and it was super busy. We were the last reservation and there was a bit of a wait because people weren’t leaving. The general manager, Aaron, was amazing to us! He was so sweet and apologized tons of times even though we didn’t mind. He made sure we got our food quickly and kept checking on us. He definitely went above and beyond for us. Our waitress Macy was so sweet also, and the waitress that took over our table. The food was also fantastic and great portions! We ordered the mussels (appetizer), filet, stuffed flounder, & crème brûlée We will definitely be headed back her for big occasions or when we are looking for a fancy meal.

Absolutely loved my dining experience here during FXBG restaurant week. I had the Steak and Fries option, cooked to medium and it was delicious. For dessert I ordered the creme and berries.

Went to dinner tonight and service was amazing. Our server was so attentive and had good information on the foods. There were a few events that were WAY beyond their control, but they made sure we were taken care of. I’m a scatterbrain and forgot the servers name, but a very nice bald man. AMAZING. We got steaks and also, holy cow the scalloped potatoes. Just overall wonderful.

Service was a little sluggish. Upon entering, it felt like we were not recognized. It took the staff a while to seat us. Food was not tasty. Steak was dry, Escargo was so much drowned in garlic, food in general did not have any seasoning or taste. Skip on desert cause we had enough and just was ready to go. We chose this place for our anniversary and it seemed somewhat ruined by choosing this place to eat. The atmosphere was fine.

Asked for a seat in the lounge area so that we can be a little more secluded from other patrons. Was perfect since we wanted something a little casual and relaxed. The vibe in the lounge is not French I would say but the food was. Very good, many seafood options if you are a seafood lover.

Disappointing experience. The appetizers and desserts were good, but our main courses were average at best. The server was inattentive and hovered as I calculated the tip.

Perfect location for a date night. For an appetizer, I recommend trying the escargot, especially if one has not yet tried it before. The escargot was tender and had a nice, buttery finish. For mains, I had the ahi tuna dinner (recommended by my waitress) and I could not have been more delighted. Perfectly cooked to a rare finish and paired with a seasoned Moroccan-style couscous. My wife had the baked stuffed shrimp with crab meat which was fantastic. To finish off the excellent dinner, we shared a chocolate mousse dessert which had the right richness of chocolate flavor for my taste. The portions were generous and the price point was more than fair for the quality of the food and the ambiance of the restaurant. If you have not been, I highly recommend a visit, particularly for a date night.

I am a fredericksburg native who has slept on this restaurant. Exceptional food is an understatement. The menu is diverse, changes monthly and all the dishes are elevated. The quality of food is incredible and the service is exceptional. I have had the privilege of having Aaron as a server. He is clearly passionate about this restaurant and his service is the best in town. This restaurant is a must and the service should be the standard of fine dining

This is one of our go-to spots in Fredericksburg, VA. Great selection of French cuisine and located in a quiet part of Fredericksburg during the weekdays and early to mid Sat/Sun. Pricing is on the higher end, but worth it.

We had my sons rehearsal dinner there on October 6 and it was nothing short of amazing. Aaron and his team did a fabulous job. Thank you, Aaron, for making my son and now my daughter-in-law‘s night perfect.
