    I joined the club in November last year. So far the experience has been very disappointing. Here are a list of issues you may want to consider before joining this gym/club: - Lack of equipment (only one bench press bench and barbell in the whole gym). - Most of the cardiovascular equipment does not work. You will find yourself moving from machine to machine until you find one which works (and also watch many others do so). The touch screens on nearly all of the machines are unresponsive so you cannot choose any of the programs on them. - Most of the resistance machines are poorly maintained and are in need of replacement. - There are sometimes towel shortages so you have to choose to go home sweaty or wet. - The sauna room has been closed for just under a month now, with issue being some planks on the benches having come loose. - The floor leading to the pool area from the men's changing room is often dirty towards the end of the day and very slippery. - The toilet area in the men's changing room is falling apart. - No spin dryer in the men's changing room. All of that said, the staff are usually very friendly, and seem to have an insurmountable amount of work to do - so I'm guessing the issue is with management at the company level. If you want to join a gym only for cardio/resistance machines or free weights, join somewhere different for half the price. Currently, with the sauna closed and half of the equipment not working, I do not feel like I am getting the service I paid for.

    This place is screaming for a refurbishment. The gym floor is dated with many broken machines. The only positive is the pool area.

    I have to agree with the review below by Mr. Ian Gaunt. The gym is going downhill, so run down and dated. I have been a member of this gym for many years, staff are very nice and friendly, parking and location is good. However, toilets and lockers room are dirty and old, things falling apart, gym area looks dated, machines are very old. The place always packed, probably too many members to accommodate. I have not witnessed any refurbishment, new equipment or any sort of maintenance/updating for probably the last 10 years. Recently they permanently closed the spa area, the excuse was energy bills. However we still paying for this service. All in all, this gym was good maybe 10 years ago but it has been clearly run on the cheap and it is starting to show.

    I've just left this gym unfortunately, I've been a member for over 5 years and over that time its gone further and further downhill. Things constantly break whether it be the toilets, showers, gym equipment, steam room, the list goes on. Everyone appreciates things break but its the communication and the time it takes to repair, most recently the men didn't have showers for 2 weeks. The spa is off for 6 months as a cost cutting exercise but they don't pass this on to the members. There are so many budget gyms out there now with the budget cost, this gym is now no better than budget however at a premium gym cost, I wouldn't recommend joining.

    If I could I would give this facility 0 stars. My husband and I were founder members of this club (used to be Cannons) and it is really sad to see it's demise since Nuffield Health took over. The rudeness of the staff, the overall cleanliness, the equipment that has seen better days, pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi not working on a regular basis with very little/no prior warning, signs in the gym area asking all the users to wipe down the equipment after the use and yet, no paper towels or sprays provided for that, the list is endless. Membership should come with a health warning!!!!AVOID LIKE A PLAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Gym equipment is ancient at leat15 years old most of it doesn’t work. They choose to clean the sauna midday on a Saturday meaning everyone had to leave, the steam room and sauna are tiny, the steam room was broken for about 3 months. They have stopped heating the pool now the water is freezing. There is no life guard or pool staff something I’ve never seen anywhere else all the other Nuffields I’ve been too have life guards. There isn’t even a sign to warn you there is no life guard. It’s really a disappointment, it could be nice if they cared to invest in it, but they still expect membership fees at premium rates. Disgrace wouldn’t recommend.

    AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! Having been a member here for at least 5 years I have been unfortunate to see the demise of this once loved gym. The cause for this demise? Uncaring, self righteous new management. The senior staff are a disgrace, I am appalled at the level of customer service they have displayed. Despite repeated requests for head office to contact me regarding their level of service and assurances that I would be contacted, I am still awaiting a phone call two weeks later. They seem to think that their customers do not matter. Any other business would have folded had they treated their customers in this manner!!

    I can confirm the most recent reviews below, that this place has rapidly declined in quality over the past year or so. The facilities are tired and dirty, rather like some of the staff, who seem to forget that we are paying customers. I shall not be renewing my membership at the end of this year, and will be off to a better place - one that respects its members and offers them value for money. This place just sees the members as cash-cows, tries to cut corners, and resembles a council-run sports centre. AVOID!

    I was so excited to begin my fitness journey! I chose Nuffield as a brand that I THOUGHT denoted quality. Having visited the Cheam branch, I am disappointed. In line with other reviews, the equipment is run down, some to the extent of health and safety risks, e.g. pins not fitting properly into weight machines and treadmills with half the track broken. And then there's the joy of the changing rooms. I am sure that the existence of mould in the showers is not something a health and wellbeing charity would want advertised but it's there. Not even a complementary towel to be seen either. Things break, wear down over time, that's understandable. What's most disappointing is looking at the responses to reviews on here. There doesn't appear to be a plan in place for refurbishment, just apologies. On a positive The staff are friendly, and it's certainly not their fault as to the overall condition of the place, and it wasn't too crowded. However, I think Nuffield need to be more transparent around their strategy here, especially considering their charity status.

    A gym which looks nice on the outside but is frequently home to unclean and broken facilities. Towels are in short supply on a regular basis and the management is terrible - they will stop at nothing to hold onto your money at all costs, with little empathy towards customers, who are seen as cash generating numbers. A total disgrace.

    I can't fault the facilities or staff. But I don't believe the pool and jacuzzi are as hygienic as they could be, or the wet walkways. I contacted a very virulent fungal toe infection, that has taken the hospital months to identify. I caught it at Nuffield, this is 100% the case. So wear flip flops at all times. I am a disabled driver and can NEVER get parked in one of the 2 bays. I am always told we don't own the parking lot, the club behind us does. Well if this is the case, then surely you can get them to advise their members WITHOUT A BLUE BADGE not to park there. You have been warned, if you are disabled it's a problem. And if you join be sure o buy some flip flops. I shall not be renewing my expensive membership. Nuffield are in the business of making money ,make no mistake about this!

    I came here as a gym guest and I can't believe how poor the gym is comparing to how much you pay each month. Every exercise machine is ancient and needs replacing. There was loads of machines out of order. The only good thing was the pool area and the staff were very helpful.

    Not the greatest of gyms to join. Needs a pool refurb, David Lloyd is much cleaner and better if you have children. Receptionist was very unpleasant.

    I am very disappointed with my experience with this gym. I signed up for a membership a few weeks before things started shutting down with COVID. I really like the gym, but the staff experience I've had hasn't been great. I was told that my membership would be frozen during the gym shutdown and once it re-opened that I could just call or email to re-freeze my membership. I decided this month that I felt uncomfortable going back with numbers continuing to be high and I'm trying to limit any activities considered higher-risk. When I called to talk to someone today, they said that freezes are technically not allowed in the membership term (which I was not told when I signed up) and that they only froze memberships as a courtesy during the shutdown. I was told a medical letter is required to freeze my account. This is seriously the response in the middle of a PANDEMIC when you have members with various comfort levels?!? I was told this is something new and they are only telling members when they request to freeze their accounts. If this is a new policy, it should be communicated to ALL members. I also think this is a very low stance the gym is taking with the current situation going on and will be cancelling my membership as soon as I am able to. While I love the features of the gym, I am not happy with the staff. And anytime I've had to contact the gym, it has taken multiple attempts to have someone get back to me.

    I am absolutely disgusted at the lack of social responsibility of this nationwide organisation. You form an important part of the private healthcare industry and yet this organisation is allowing one of my close friends to now go into debt to pay the membership that she has tied into for another 6 months since she has lost her job. This is not care. This is not an organisation I would be proud of.

    I have been going here for nearly 5 years, and recently it has fallen apart. There is always something that's broken and needs repairing, which normally takes months to repair. The equipment is old and tatty, with tears in the benches and bits missing from the equipment. Whenever I email with a query, I never get a reply. For £60 a month you could get better. I'm off once my contract ends.

    Don’t join! It’s dirty and un-maintained. Equipment is constantly breaking and out of order. Management are incompetent and don’t care about inconvenience to customers. If you want a gym, join somewhere like The Gym or Anytime Fitness which have much better equipment. If you want a pool, join a leisure centre. The spa is basically non-existent so don’t let that sway any decision to join.

    I have been to many gyms from a range of prices such as Puregym/The Gym/ 24hr Fitness/ Anytime fitness etc.. Swimming area looks clean and the gym equipment is better than my main gym in leatherhead but still not the best and a bit tight in space, I could think of better gyms without the high price - summary of gym quality better going to puregym you get more for your money, the high price here isnt worth the cost unless you really want a suana and stream room which are small and when I went the jacquzzi wasnt working for over a months. The staff are rude and Unfriendly, I am not from the local area and my phone battery was very low after my workout and as My nuffiled gym has pin lockers, this one you had to bring your own padlock which is not the case in the cambridge or leatherhead nuffield gyms. I asked the reception if they could keep my phone behind the desk charging whlist I go for a swim. The women refused even tho there was 4 of them at the desk. She said to me ' we cant be responsible which is BS' we pay so much money for this gym and they cant do a simple thing. The other two gyms and even at puregym staff were happy to help with things like this, especially when you explain to them you need your phone on to get home. Instead I was told to plug my phone in the wall infront of the reception near some chairs, I asked if they can keep an eye on it and they said if someone takes its not there problem. Luckly no one did but this service is very bad. So far only nuffiled gym I have found worse going to are like in cambrigde which is huge and facilities such has two big jacquzzi's and 50x bigger swimming pool and cheaper in price. My advise is to stay clear of this gym or at least take a trial as important to remember not ALL Nuffield Gyms are the same. Theres some Very Good ones with large amount of equipment and facilities and some very poor ones with out of date stuff and swimming pools fit for primary school and jacquzzi only in some of them BUT ALL are Expensive or near enough the same price, with some of the poor ones having the nerve to charge as much as the good ones

    A lovely gym with all the facilities, but unfortunately the gym equipment is old and broken and worn out. Touch screens don't work, machines have no tension left in them and break down. The equipment is over 15 years old, way past its commercial life, but there are no plans for it to be replaced. The recent techno gym refit for Nuffield Health sadly did not include this one and there does not appear to be any plans for a much needed replacement of the equipment hence the 1 star rating!

    Had been a member of this gym for more than 5yrs but when I requested a break due to covid numbers being very high at the end of last year they didn’t want to know - should have just told them that I was going on holiday - would have been easier. Gave them several attempts to contact me to discuss and save my membership but neither the managers or membership team wanted to know. The gym is poorly maintained and badly run. Glad to have given my notice and left.

    I went on a day pass and would not join the Gym. It offers awful value for money. The gym is tired, small and tatty, and the machines are old. The pool is okay but also small. Other gyms like pure gym and the gym group are far superior, 24/7 and below £20 per month. It is for posers not proper gym enthusiasts. If you want a pool, then join a decent Gym and pass the extra at Cheam Leisure - still cheaper than Nuffield. There is not one decent review on the site that is under 12-months. A gym in decline.

    In the beginning there was Chaos, a yawning nothingness. Out of the void emerged Nuffield Cheam and other Nuffield locations — Wandsworth (professionals), Wimbledon (sirens and aspirational), and CHEAM (the unknowable place where the elderly members dwell). ... After Cronus (time) was born, the gods of Nuffield decreed no more elderly members were to be signed elsewhere, other than Nuffield Cheam, which would be the loitering ground of all 65+ members - the blue rinse visible for miles around and the smell of lavender filling the nostrils upon entry. For all the younger members were banished from Cheam, leaving only the retired to dwell in the four walls of Nuffield Cheam...

    What can I say that's not already been said about this dirty old run down gym that is over priced and out of date to gym gear and lockers etc, main trouble with this gym is things that brake do not get fixed and just stay broken. At one point this gym used to be good when it was cannons. i was coming here for about ten years but stopped coming just before 1st lockdown 2020 .dont know how much it change since then but i guess its all the same.

    Lied about being able to switch back and forth between packages also charged during covid shutdown. This place is a joke! They also automatically sign you up to continue paying after your contract is up.

    I am posting this only to encourage potential members to pay very close attention to what you are signing. You will not get a copy of a contract unless you specifically ask for it. Once you get locked into a membership, the only way you can get out of it is with medical documentation or a move. To add to this, during COVID-19 precautions, you can freeze your account for a month, however, you must add this month to the end of your contract. regardless of the fact that the gym has changed its hours . My interpretation of all of this Is that your money is the most important thing to this gym. As far as facilities are concerned, the gym is very nice. However, I live in an area that offers several gyms, all of which are equally as nice. My experience is that other gyms have a far better system of member communication and customer service. I suggest you do your homework before you sign!

    I used to work here when it was cannons health club around 15 years ago, and it was truly one of the best places ive ever worked. The atmosphere was buzzing, all members were happy and there were hardly any complaints. My mother and I decided to go for a tour last night (without booking in), as we have decided to join a local gym. From walking into the entrance, I could immediately see how much it has changed. It seemed basic and lacked the touches it used to have, like sofas for members to lounge on, instead just a couple of tables and chairs. We were greeted by a member of staff on reception, he seemed quite happy until I said we have come to look around and potentially join, he responded with "well if you dont mind walking around by yourselves then you can come back to me with any questions that you have as there is just me here" So we started to walk around and I could see that the bar area had no character or enticing chairs or sofas to sit on, this club used to have such a good social area that was constantly heaving with members ordering coffess or food, but it was dead. The changing rooms are in a shocking condition with panels under the sink just caved in, holes in walls that havent been filled or no posters or club information. The general cleanliness was disgusting! I was pleased to see they still have the same members, so I had a chat with a couple and they had the same views as Myself and my mum, they were not happy but it was just convenient for them. I said that I wouldnt pay more than £40-£50 per month for this club, we were hugely dissapointed as we had high expextations for Nuffield Health and we definitely will not be joining, I just hope that something is done as the whole club needs attention.

    Recently joined and very disappointed. Not what you would expect from a premium gym. Although it has all the facilities, the gym equipment is so old and worn out that most of it is beyond use. I regularly spend time moving from machine to machine to get one which works, and even then find that most machines barely work properly with almost no tension. The screens rarely work properly and the workout statistics are wildly inaccurate and vary massively from machine to machine. This gym is not cheap at £64 per month and you can get gyms with much newer and better working equipment in the area for a much lower price (the budget gyms and local authority gyms all have newer equipment!). In addition the changing rooms are very shabby and worn out with broken areas. I won't be staying once the initial period expires.

    I was only a member for a couple of months last year prior to lockdown and I liked the atmosphere and the staff. The popular classes were quite full but you usually managed to get in even on the waiting list. Since Covid, the communication has been excellent. The froze my membership and once limited opening was allowed they made sure every step was taken to ensure safety, from limiting the amount of lockers in use, to booking the pool so that only 4, then 8, people were allowed to use it at any one time. Once the classes started, again spaces were limited and social distancing was enforced by signs on the floor and around the gym. Even now that restrictions have mostly been lifted, I don't find it over busy, the pool is not too crowded, the locker rooms are clean, and the choice of classes is wide. As for the previous comment about the Blue Rinse Brigade and the smell of lavender, maybe he went during the day when most younger people are working.All the staff I have encountered at the gym have been young, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and polite.

    It's always elbow to elbow and once you sign the dotted line you are stuck in the contract. No cancel fee you are just stuck or pay for the months you do not wish to continue. Stay away from this gym.

    I’ve been coming to the gym for about 5 years as it’s my local Vitality one. The classes are good but the gym equipment is dated and there’s often a shortage of kettlebells for classes. The gym staff are lovely but management is poor and rarely responds to queries.

    Fantastic gym, with excellent staff, well managed and led by Ian S. They are a well trained and motivated team. Great welcome every time. Facilities and equipment just what I need, at a reasonable price. Half the price of the gym I left with twice the service.

    I was a member of the Cheam branch for a few years but handed in my notice on Friday following an incident where a member of stuff gave my booked place away to a person on a waiting list right in front of me :-( I have always had difficulties getting into the classes I wanted to attend regularly as they are so oversubscribed but this was just the final straw to convince me to ditch this place. Always found this branch quite dated and most of the machines need repairs. Stuff seem unmotivated and not very eager to solve issues when brought to their attention.

    A fraud. I called them way ahead my one year anniversary to cancel the agreement. They told me to come at the last day of my contract. When I went there on last day of the contract they told me they can't do it and I have to contact a third party financial company. After going through so many trouble I was able to end the auto payments. Now they send me a bill saying I have to pay for another month as a 30 day contract end fee. Why was not I told to come a month before the contract end date????

    You can’t book onto any aqua classes. Literally set my alarm for 7am when the classes were published for 18 days in a row & they were being published as full immediately. Don’t bother joining if you are just wanting aqua

    I like going to this gym. Yep, there have been issues with maintenance of equipment and the changing rooms/showers/toilets are pretty tired, but I come back nonetheless and am in my third year of membership. Why? The staff, location and parking are all great. There's a good range of equipment in the gym. The pool itself is nice. I can almost always complete my planned workout without too much difficulty (the 6pm peak can be a bit trickier, but not terrible). Maintenance has been improving: The cracked leather covers on benches and machines have been replaced recently; treadmills and ellipticals seem to spend less time out of action now; and they've just installed 3 new rowing machines and 2 new skiergs. The old rowing machines really needed to be replaced so I'm glad they've done this. I'm not convinced the pricing represents good value, but the convenience wins for me and I enjoy my workouts here.

    Decent gym, not too busy and quite a few different machines. Nice addition of Boxing available but staff don’t seem to put weight plates away and some of the kit is pretty old.

    It's actually terrible, easily the worst of the Nuffields I've been to, no staff on the gym floor, place is run down and overall depressing. Is in drastic need of a refurb, I honestly wouldn't come here unless I absolutely have to.

    Staff are lovely but other than that this gym is a bit of a let down. Really nothing that sets it apart from a non private leisure centre. David Lloyds has a lovely cafe perfect for a socialable lunch plus outdoor pool etc. Whereas Nuffield has a little cafe in reception area which often is hard to hear yourself think due to the music from the gym upstairs. I think for the amount they charge per membership you could find a much better gym to join.

    There are some things to address at this club, like some machines not working in the gym or need repairing. Lockers many not working properly. But the staff are very good, very helpful particularly Dee with sorting a suitable workout for me and Kieron with renewing my membership. Front desk always pleasant with a smile.

    It’s just a bit too run down now. I joined 8 years ago, left and joined last year and it’s still the same machines. A significant number of cardio as a result have broken. They also forget to make sure paper towels and cleaning towels are always within reach. On the plus side it’s not very busy most of the time (can’t speak for post 6pm). Once it gets a refurb it could be an interesting option.

    Very friendly comfortable environment. Staff are friendly and always helpful. I’ve rarely seen equipment out of order. Smaller than Wimbledon gym but I prefer Cheam, which has a nice lounge area to chill out after gym session. My only minus point - and I understand that this is not wholly Nuffield but all the clubs sharing the facility - as a pedestrian it can be unpleasant walking down the narrow access road shared with cars. Any chance of a pedestrian access gate? I’m thinking particularly for when it’s dark. Oh and for comments preferring D.Lloyd, put right off them because of the persistent hard sell. Reminded me of Foxtons!

    I came here due to GG closing. It’s a bit smaller compared to GG, but it’s just as clean. If not, even CLEANER. The cleaning staff do any amazing job. I mean seriously, all the equipment is cleaned throughly. I can’t find one spec of dust or hair. I only come here to use the treadmill or sauna. I make sure to avoid peak times as I don’t want either to be taken. I enjoy it here. Plus they gave me a Veterans discount!!!! Recommendation: is it possible to increase the size of the sauna?

    I went there for a physio appointment a month ago. It went well, but they are not able to give me an invoice for my health insurance. I chased 6 times by email and on the phone, still nothing. It is the simplest thing to do. I'll happily remove this review if I finally receive an invoice.

    Convenient nice gym - but maintenance of machines is dreadful - eg there are 8 cross trainers - 3 of which have long term problems - one has a broken bearing - one has a frozen screen - one has a broken foot support - though they are all still “in use”

    Yes it’s a little tired, but it’s a clean and well maintained gym with friendly staff and ample parking. Not sure what else people need - I would recommend this gym 10/10

    Upon arrival I was greeted buy a team member who was extremely friendly and helpful got me checked in with my trial pass in under a minute, get me a rundown of the club's amenities have to if I had any questions direct me to the locker room and the workout floor and I was set and ready to go within 5 minutes of walking in the door. Excellent service by the club and its employees...

    They have an amazing facility I just wish they would start classes on time, wow! Not a single one that I've attended has started on time. I don't get that? The instructor should be the first one there.... not the last. I show up READY. Otherwise I love this gym honestly.

    I’m changing my review due to them continuing to charge me after the contract was up. Not only did they continue to charge, they raised the price(they snuck this into the contract but I called before the it ended to make sure it would stop after that and they said it would). So, after I noticed the charges a few months after and me not going, I called and they would not refund for when it ended and I never checked in.

    My favorite new gym!! Used to work out at Club Fitness for years, but I wanted to try a new gym. I'm so impressed! They have so much more amenities to offer and it's nice that you can bring one family member or friend with you for free to workout, unlike Club Fitness. Staff is really friendly and helpful. They keep the gym so clean and they follow the 6ft rule for the machines which is nice. Check them out!! You won't be disappointed!

    Stay away from this place. They will be very friendly at the beginning. But it’s a nightmare to end the contract.They can’t just do that from the office. Have to go through third party companies , stay on long calls, send emails etc.

    I was devastated when golds gym closed. I didn't think any other gym could compare but anytime fitness definitely beats golds! Even though it is a smaller atmosphere they have all the equipment you need to get in a good workout

    Today was my first day at your facility, participating in a class. I want to give a HUGE shout out to your instructor, Julie. She took the time to understand my past experiences with classes, explained the new COVID protocol, and coached me along the entire class. As my first experience in a new place, new state, and new exercise class, I had (and still have) incredible anxiety and insecurity. Yet, with Julie's support, encouragement, and expertise, I would 10/10 recommend and look forward to her next class. Julie, thank you for being an incredible instructor.

    Having recently visited the gym, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. The equipment seemed outdated and in dire need of repair and replacement. Several spin bikes and machines were malfunctioning, which made it challenging to have a proper workout. Moreover, despite raising my concerns to the management through comments and feedback, they seemed unresponsive and indifferent to the issues. It's disheartening to see a lack of initiative in addressing these problems, as it affects the overall gym experience and safety. I hope the management takes these criticisms seriously and invests in upgrading their equipment and being more responsive to member feedback in the future, instead of moving equipment around. As of now, I wouldn't recommend this gym to others until these issues are properly addressed.

    I was a member of this gym for nearly 7 years and in that time I’ve seen no investment in new equipment. The equipment is often broken or faulty, the changing rooms are a mess and the pool is often closed for maintenance issues. Not to mention the jacuzzi being permanently closed because essentially it was an expense they could no longer afford. I’ve since moved to a 24 hour gym in Sutton which is much better value for money and the equipment is the latest on the market.

    I went to Nuffield gym cheam, today (Thursday, at 17:25) for the first time and I realised that the changing rooms we need to buy our own lockers to lock up our belongings. I went to the reception and I tried to explain that in other places such as Leatherhead we don’t need to buy our own lockers, we are able to lock our belongings without lending a locker or bringing our own, but he interrupted me and spoke over me which I found rude and disrespectful. And then I left because I don’t need to go through this situation.

    So surprising to see some of the feedback. I regularly attend Cheam and have nothing but positive feedback. Staff are lovely, everything’s clean, and there is a huge choice of equipment to use. It ticks my box! 💪🏻
