Burwell Museum and Windmill

Tourist attraction Museum Historical landmark Local history museum

🫤 A very comprehensive collection of local historic objects but sadly lacking in meta data to explain their context (with the exception of the historic transport collection which was excellent). These comments shouldn't undermine the dedication that has gone into gathering and curating the museum. Oth... People often mention museum, great, windmill,

A very comprehensive collection of local historic objects but sadly lacking in meta data to explain their context (with the exception of the historic transport collection which was excellent). These comments shouldn't undermine the dedication that has gone into gathering and curating the museum. Others may not have the same issues that I did.

A quirky little museum with an underrated small working Telephone Exchange from the 1950-1960 era. Visitors will enjoy using the dial telephones to call one another and see and hear the Electro- mechanical exchange respond to the calls.

A hidden gem of a rural museum, obviously curated with great pride. Well worth a visit if in the area, perhaps combine with Wicken Fen, Ely Cathedral or Burwell village trail/ walks for a full day out.

Really wonderful experience! When you walk up, it looks like the museum is only the windmill and one old barn building, but it is deceptively expansive and comprehensive. We visited with two small children and there was much to keep them engaged. My expectations were completely surpassed and I would be happy to return!

Absolutely loved this place. Slightly eccentric but full of character. Every time we turned a corner there was more to see. Volunteers were extremely friendly and attentive. A must see place.

Excellent museum! We stopped by for a quick snap of the windmill, stayed for the museum (which was crazy cheap, only £10/family), and had a great time.

We spent a happy 21/2 hours looking round. Our very knowledgeable guide spent about an hour showing us round the windmill. We were lucky to find the blacksmiths forge in use and the many other exhibits were varied and well laid out. All very enjoyable... I forgot to mention the hot chocolate.

A very friendly museum. There is a large range of exhibits with a local flavour. The place is very family friendly. The tea room serves some great snacks. We used it as a meet halfway venue and would certainly return. It is a credit to the local community who work together to keep the place alive and thriving.

It's a great place to meet up with kids. The cafe is well stocked and there are loads of places to sit. They run events and open days throughout the year that are free entry. On other days, there is a charge for entry but you can get an annual pass. The cafe is tucked away behind the museum buildings and it's not immediately obvious how to get to the windmill from the road. Thankfully, you can just look for the massive windmill and you'll get there eventually. Friendly staff and reasonably priced.

This truly is a hidden gem. A fascinating museum with a vast range of local historical items. Our granddaughters were delighted with the telephone exchange and spent ages dialling and calling each other. There are plenty of picnic tables and a refreshment room with hot and cold drinks etc. We couldn’t take it all in and will need to visit again. Do pop in and see for yourselves.

A wonderful find - and need another trip as didn't manage to get around it all. Great insight into a village's life and a trip down memory lane seeing some items! Brilliant for all ages. The cafe offered a great cuppa and delicious treats.

Exceptional. It's great to have such an informative museum with great staff in our village. The amount of history of the fens and the village is impressive. This is a great place to take children.
