Delicious Sunday Roast in a charming, rustic setting. We had the pig’s head and salt aged Yorkshire sirloin as our main. The Roast was stacked high with sirloin, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. The flavors complemented each other very well. Although I typically like my meat rare, because it was a sirloin, it was very chewy and could have used just a few more minutes in the roast (we were not asked for our temperature preference). Otherwise, everything was great!

The atmosphere is nice; staff is generally cheerful; food certainly makes you feel excited; desserts are sublime!! I will give it 5 star, unfortunately there are few flaws… we found piece of plastic in the lamb… but staff did not properly address us at all… the roast beef is not good, very chewy

Some of the food was good, particularly the confit chicken. The crackling on the pork was (potentially-)tooth-shatteringly tough and tasted rancid. It was not good. The bread was extremely underwhelming (not fresh or particularly tasty). £8 for four ungenerous slices did not feel like good value. It also took an age to arrive. When it was chased up, the waitress said that it was a starter so would arrive with the starters. This seemed odd. It then arrived a few minutes later, before the starters... The atmosphere was fine but not brilliant. The room is full of hard surfaces, so the noise carries, particularly if you're unfortunate in having loud neighbours. The service was mixed. One of the young waiters was quite friendly and helpful. The waitress who seemed to be in charge was rather less friendly, although she did warm up a bit as the night went on. All in all, it's pretty competent cooking, but you're paying a hefty premium for the location.

Great place to stop in for dinner. The sourdough bread was fantastic. We had the roasted squash, venison and rump steak all delicious. We finished off the night with sticky toffee pudding which was good. Thanks for a great evening.

The place is lovely and the service is excellent. The food is nice and delicious. Since this is a Michelin restaurant from 2021, I draw one point down for their tables. Unfortunately, the top of the table was so uneven that with each cut in my food, the plate popped here and there. Aside from the table issue, this place is amazing as well as the food. The selection of vines and beer is also quite good.

Great service from all the staff. The food came out in timely order and the quality of the ingredients were top notch. Was quite busy even on a Monday night. Lovely for a nice dinner and drinks. Curious to try their Sunday roast.

Not as good as I remember when we came here for a magnificent Sunday roast on a visit to London before the pandemic. This time it was a Friday and we just wanted a light lunch and a beer. The choice was not great and we had a misunderstanding over the service. In the end we weren't charged for the sourbread. There was only one choice each of ale and bitter. We would give it a second chance for the Sunday roast which everyone still says is very good.

Atmosphere is very nice and cozy. There are a lot of candle lights everywhere. I can recommend a tomato soup as a starter and chicken leg as main dish. Also a chocolate fondant was tasty but to sweet for me. We spent 80£ for two but it’s minimum price I think. It’s a pet friendly place that is very cool!

Finally managed to eat at The Pig and Butcher and it was great ! Went for Sunday dinner (booked in advance) staff has helped me well and even accepted my request of having outdoor seating. Much appreciated! I liked the ambiance that I will define as smart casual. Food wise I had a very nice meal and got what I was looking for, proper, Refine Sunday roast. Meat is perfectly cooked, Yorkshire big enough to mute complaints ! Beef croquette are nice starter and tasty without being exceptional. Dark chocolate hot pot is a great treat and even though it’s rich doesn’t feel heavy. My only little remarks is on the draft beer, it seems that the place is more oriented to bottle offer. Good selection though, but I would have preferred having more choice with draft. Would recommend for casual Sunday roast ! Thanks to the team !

This place is by far the best place to eat on Liverpool Road/Upper Street area. The menu is always current and offers a wide variety of interesting food; which is just exceptional. We were so excited and keen to dive in we forgot to take pictures before and so all I have are our empty plates and half eaten food (having just remembered to take the photo) - sorry. You have to visit here!!

So disappointed and was looking forward to it… I booked two weeks in advance, mentioning we are coming to try the truffle chicken and therefore were booked on a Sunday because the person on the phone said it’s only served for the roast. We arrived yesterday and there was no truffle chicken on the menu and the waitress told us it’s on the main menu but not the roast menu. Disappointment 1. I ordered the veggie Wellington with garlic truffle emulsion, it came without the garlic truffle emulsion. The Wellington itself was a mini piece of pastry filled with the exact same veggies that come with the roast, so I had cabbage, parsnip and carrot on the plate and rolled in a tiny pastry. Great. As least make the veggie Wellington different, it really felt like you’re making a joke of your customers. Oh, and there were two potatoes per dish. See on the image the not yet started meal, it’s all there The side salad I ordered never arrived, when I asked for it it came. But the “green life with lemony dressing salad” was actually a purple leave with no dressing just its weight in salt, it was an awfully bitter and salty salad. How can one mess up a salad??? The only good thing really was the Yorkshire pudding (which isn’t the most exciting bit of a roast, but it was good) and the cauliflower cheese. Everything else was awful. I had only one drink with this, and it all accounted for 40£. I’m really upset.

Probably the best Sunday Roast I have ever had ( been there already 3x times!) Every time I think about it I can still feel the taste in my mouth. Especially I love the sharing platter, meat is lovely cooked, tender and juicy. Vegetable super fresh, crunchy and glazed. Potatoes are crispy and delicious-best I’ve ever had. Nice selection of wines. Everything was delicious. Even my English friends keep asking when will we be back again! It’s not easy as it gets booked out so make sure you make reservations in advance ( like 2-3 weeks) especially for groups over 4. Ambience is nice, clean and rather modern. Staff is polite but not over the top, just what you need. Highly recommend it.

Came here for Sunday roast (my first Sunday roast ever) and was some of the best food I’ve had! Pork was perfectly tender with crispy skin and the creamy leeks were incredible. Service was quick and I appreciated the homy, rustic interior. Highly recommend making a reservation here for Sunday roast

I was sitting in the pub having a drink, when I heard a man say to another man, could you please move your dog, I don’t want to trip on him I want to use the toilet, this was a Labrador dog. The man rudely replied back, go around the long way, and don’t be lazy. I could not believe what I was hearing, the other man did get up set by this remark, you can’t blame him. Then another customer had the same problem trying to use the toilet. As a customer and a animal lover, it was a stupid place to put the dog right outside the toilet, where customers are having difficulty to access the toilet. The staff are responsible to ask the customer, to move into appropriate sitting area, if I see this incident occur again, I will be speaking to Manager. Some customers should leave their big dogs at home if they can’t take responsibility, in where they are sitting in the pub, and obstructing the toilet area.

Food was delicious, the ribeye on the bone and the desserts were hands down the best. But we had to wait 1.5hr for the mains to arrive.

Wonderful place for a roast. Thoughtful rustic fixtures provide a cozy environment while stilling feeling like the 21st century, a very charming trick! They are transparent in their sourcing of quality UK ingredients while still offering reasonable prices, a double bonus. If nothing else, it's a wonderful place to spend time in a lovely neighborhood. Full marks!

It was not too bad I must say. The food was decent and the environment relaxed. That said, the service was too slow and the dessert came after 1 hour waiting. I would go back for some beer and of course the duck which was indeed amazing. The desserts were super tasty as well. They are always good with desserts.

Really great. The Beef was probably the best roast I've had on a Sunday for quite a while! Service was great and the beer and wine list on point. The atmosphere in side is perfect for autumn, dim lights and a rustic vibe that is perfect for having a red and eating a proper dinner. Will be back for sure.

Came here Sunday night for roast! The meat was very tender and I loved the crispy potatoes. I cannot stop thinking about the mac and cheese cauliflower, absolutely decadent without being too filling. The chicken liver pate did not have a very strong liver taste and was a great with the bread. I would also highly recommend both versions of their bloody Mary - especially the one with clam juice! I don't normally enjoy them but I think I do now because of The Pig and Butcher. The service was a bit slow at first but maybe it was a busy Sunday night, it did take them awhile to get us things we asked for but nothing egregious.

Sunday roast here was PHENOMENAL, one of the best ones I've had in London! Get the beef for 2 share with bone marrow, sooo tender and delicious with lots of gravy. Not usually a big fan of Yorkshire pudding but this one was light and made well for mopping up the bone marrow. Comes with creamed leeks and roasted veggies on the side, such a great deal!

Cosy vibe, delicious flavours. We ate here two days in a row and both times staff were super helpful with my dietary requirements. The sea bream was cooked to perfection and the partridge had a wonderful depth of flavour.

Love this place!!!! Booked the feasting menu and was blown away. Despite it being a busy time, the dishes were perfectly cooked and the servers were attentive to my table. Overall the quality of the food/cooking, the service and the restaurant ambiance were all excellent. Highly recommend for special occasions, group meals or even casual solo nights out. Many thanks to Tom, Olivia, Susie and Fritz, and the talented kitchen crew for one of my happiest memories of the holidays x

Phenomenal restaurant!! Great quality of food, friendly service and ambience is settling. As I learned that Sunday roast is a staple for England, I became appreciative of that tradition and I can tell you all that the Pig and the Butcher make it slightly better than home😉 They welcome the entire family!!(even the family pup 🐶). Absolutely great thing going right here, check them out!!(pics of roast pork and sticky toffee😋)

The quality of the ingredients and the methods they are prepared were top quality. However my food was delivered semi-cold, the base proportions are too small, and the cost and premium experience I was expecting was misaligned. On positive notes the hostess and staff I interacted with had good food /wine recommendations. The pork in the dish I ordered was prepared very well, a very high grade of meat was used absent of any fat and there was a reasonable amount of it. This was all tarnished by the semi-cold delivery. The vegetables and cheese sauce aside from the cold delivery was high quality. What was really missing was a second side like mash potatoes to make up for the small portions. The menu also was confusing with no section labels, just the ingredients in a given item with no order. The take away I hope the owner gets from my review is these are very easy to fix problems. I look forward to coming again in a few months to reassess.

This place is outstanding - relaxed and attentive service and wonderful food. Bread and dripping as a snack at the beginning of a meal is a must, so simple but absolutely perfect.

Pretty good. The mains (pork and venison) were delicious, though I was hungry at the end. One dessert (the chocolate pudding) was really really good. The other (Alphonso mango) was a huge disappointment. Three out of four ain't bad.

Great atmosphere - perfect level of buzz without being too loud to hear your dinner companions. The Windsor was excellent, but unfortunately the beetroot and marinated mushrooms were more disappointing. Overall the food experience was very good, particularly for a pub. However, the service, while very friendly and pleasant, was very slow. Still looking forward to coming back and trying new dishes next time!

Great vibe on a Sunday night. They were out of both of the shared Sunday roasts by the time we got there, which was a little disappointing. We each got our own roast - pork and beef - and they were good. The sides were more exciting than the meat itself.

Coming all the way from New Zealand we need it to try traditional English Sunday roast. And this place didn't disappoint us. Nice atmosphere great friendly service. Thanks for the experience

  • 5/5 Vicky 1 year ago on Google
We really enjoyed our experience at the pig and butcher. Let's start with the food: we both had Sunday Roasts, beef and pork. Both were really good, it's tru the portions aren't massive but they do fill your plate and there are a lot of potatoes so you won't leave feeling hungry - you'll actually have to struggle to get dessert in. I was so impressed by the vegetables, I've never had them so good on a Sunday roast. The greens were cooked perfectly, the flavour was so delicate, I absolutely loved them. The Yorkshire pudding was massive and perfectly cooked as well. The cauliflower cheese is also well cooked. So far it's been one of the best Sunday roasts we've had in London. The atmosphere of the pub is also quite nice, although we found the room to be a bit cold. Service was attentive and recommended a wonderful dessert (salted caramel something something) that we really enjoyed. It is quite expensive so not sure we'll be back, but we're happy to have finally tried it (had to book almost two months in advance!!)

Had to get a classic Sunday Roast recommended by my friends who live in the area. Really enjoyed the atmosphere inside, rustic and cozy. Amazing cuts of meat, veggies and all sides on point. Bloody Caesar cocktail was pretty good, sweeter than I expected but tasty! I also tried the chicken liver parfait to start, which was excellent. Thank god we also opted to eat some dessert, even though we were quite full, because the fig pudding was absolutely out of this world!! We had a lovely time :)

First of all, the triple cooked chips are exquisite. I would come here for them alone. That said, I come to London on the regular specifically to dine at this restaurant. The wine program is quality and well priced, and and the menu modern takes on the classics. The Sunday Roast in particular is not to be missed.

This place is let down by a lot of small issues: The online today's menu had items there were not on the actual menu We ate early Monday evening, and they had already run out of the beef brisket Considering this is a glorified pub, the draught beer selection is poor. There was nothing wrong with the bread, but it was also not particularly great. Most decent restaurants seem to make amazing bread. The fallow deer was cool, bordering on cold (it was nice, though) Chocolate delice was sold out, and the waiter didn’t inform us even though it had been sold out for a while (according to the couple across from us) Excessive long wait for the desert 13% discretionary tip automatically added to the bill – a trend I dislike at the best of times, but I am particularly opposed to anything over 10%. If I am paying over £100 for a meal, then the establishment can afford to pay the staff a decent wage Overall, the food was nice enough, and all of the above problems are insignificant when viewed individually, but the volume of minor issues makes the overall experience quite disappointing.

Nice pub with largely nice service, nice beers, poor trout but generally nice food (not Michelin level as sign suggests) Full of young Americans and therefore MEGA LOUD. I was placed next to a gaggle of young american women who screamed at regular intervals which was most unpleasant. So not the place to go for a nice quiet good meal

So although this place has been on my to go to list since I moved to Angel, I hadn’t yet gotten around to visiting. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful food and super friendly staff. All the food is sourced locally and there’s a variety of options to choose from. I had the pig’s head to start, deer for main and the chocolate pudding to finish, accompanied by a beautiful bottle of red wine. The wine list is particularly descriptive with many many wines to choice from. 5 stars all round! I’m looking forward to visiting again, especially to try their roast dinner!

What’s with the hype? The cooking is so average. Dined with my family and we all left underwhelmed. My pork dish was bog standard chop with an overly reduced, generic meat jus. Nothing of the promised truffle. And what a mean (scant) piece of meat. My butcher would scoff at the portion size.. They fluffed their lines on the ordering but graciously recovered it on desserts but also owners, why send me away with my kids for being 30 mins early to wander around in the drizzle outside? Could I not have just sat at my table and enjoyed an aperitif?

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Food is on the more expensive end but worth it, it looks great and tastes amazing! Staff also really friendly and welcoming with food banter. Draught beer limited but the bottle and can list is extensive, and a good wine list too.

One of my favourite restaurants in Islington. Menu changes daily based on availability of different meats and fish from the wholesalers. Last time I had the mackerel starter which was absolutely sublime, as was the open topped flat iron steak sandwich. Thoroughly recommended - though very limited in terms of vegetarian options.

The fries and bread with the salt are also highly recommended. In case you're unsure about the beer. The waiters let you try it. You should reserve in advance, otherwise it is very difficult to get a place. (Original) Sauvignon Blanc ist gut. Das Fleisch ist sehr gut. Great reception and welcome. After that the service wasn't great. Messed up our order, no napkins, didn't enjoy the food much (dry out sweet corn, cheap tasting sausage mix, very sour apple sauce and cheap tasting scratchings). Different experience from what I've been expecting. Nice atmosphere inside. Warm cask ales. It's a miss for me.
