🚇 Canada Water 🍺 £6.20 San Miguel ❤️ A splendid Victorian Rotherhithe remnant. . Nestled in a secluded street in Rotherhithe, just off the Thames Path you’ll find The Ship & Whale. The nearest Tube is Canada Water which is a ten minute stroll to get here. . The pub was originally built in 1767 and rebuilt in 1880 by Trumans. This used to be a dockers pub who toiled in now landlocked Greenland dock. . This is a one bar pub that is “L” shaped and is sumptuously decorated. The walls are painted a deep red and the ceiling a rich green, this gives the pub an opulent Victorian feel. There are plenty of tables and chairs plus a few chesterfields and wing chairs to relax in to. The stylish servery is located on the right hand side which has an ornate dark wood back bar. Around the walls are lots of prints and photos depicting Rotherhithe’s past. At the rear of the pub is a good size beer garden for the warmer months. . The beer line up had lots of mainstream choices and two cask ales were available. I decided on a pint of San Miguel, my pint was lively and price point a bit above average. The food menu is British pub grub and roasts are available on a Sunday. . I visited on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. The pub was fairly busy with a few couples, the odd solo drinker plus a large group in for a children’s party. The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled with a soundtrack of rock classics including Crosstown Traffic by Jimi Hendrix. The service was good, the lady who served me did so with a smile. I took a seat and couldn’t help but admire the decor here, it really sets a classy Victorian tone. . In 1969 Surrey Docks closed due to containerisation and the local landscape changed forever. Huge swaths of Rotherhithe were redeveloped over the next two decades and thankfully the @shipandwhale navigated the change. It was great visiting part of Rotherhithe’s heritage, I would definitely recommend a visit here. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 22.04.23

Have to go place for Sunday Roast. (note - pre-booking a table is advised, tends to be full when it comes to walk ins.) There are 3 meats and a vegie versions. (Sunday Roast). The roast servings are a healthy side with a good mix of side veg.

We only had a quick pint early doors but the food looked beautiful that was coming out! 😋 We'll probably eat here on our next visit to London! 5 stars from Nigel and Claire 😊

Came here specifically for Sunday roast. We walked in without reservation and was seated on the side bar tables, which was decent. Staff were nice and service was good. The lamb shank was good, as was the pork belly. It had some crackling, but the skin could have been dried further for additional crackle. The pork was ever so slightly dry. The Yorkshire puddings definitely were a ‘meh’, as were the potatoes and veg. I don’t know why people in other reviews complained about there being too much gravy cause I would have liked more. Perhaps gravy can be served on the side to please everyone’s preferences. Overall I was pleased with the meal and as pointed, some small room for improvements.

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Nice outdoor area and I was super happy it was dog friendly. Only negative I have is that there is no baby changing area. Luckily I had my car to change my baby in.

Only my second visit to this pub but it’s fast becoming a favourite. Despite arriving an hour or so before their weekly quiz night we were greeted, seated and served drinks within minutes. An excellent range of ales, I particularly enjoyed the Whitstable IPA. Classic British Pub food and a separate menu for vegan dishes. If you arrive on foot you can catch the 381 bus that’ll take you back to London Bridge in 20 minutes or take the scenic route with a walk along the Thames Path to Tower Bridge. Highly recommended.

This neighbour pub is one of the best finds near the quays. Old pub dated 1700s is for sure living up to the expectations both in terms of their food and interior decorations. Christina served us with absolute delight and would highly recommend her customer service. Being a vegetarian, there were quite a bit of options available on board. I felt the wine range should be improved to include some European selection. Their weekday deals were quite a catch. They are pet friendly and do have a garden seating which I am looking forward to during the summer. Overall a very lovely quaint local pub.

The food was very good with dishes of generous size. Definitely worth visiting to try out the Sunday roast or other nice options. Putting 4 stars instead of 5 because of the poor atmosphere. The place looked as if it has been left to decay. We went on a relatively cold day and the heating was not adequate so if visiting in the winter make sure to dress appropriately.

Really big and juicy burgers with warm bun! One of the most delicious I've eat for a long time. Also tried ribs and they was tasty too. Big portions :) Service is very polite too and there is big garden on backyard. Thank you very much! ♡ (The only problem there is no more parking available, but area around is nice so its good to have a little walk before such full meal:) V & Alex

Had a chilled-out time at this local family pub. Good beers on tap, a cool vibe for both the adults and kids, and a decent back garden to boot. Prices won't knock your socks off either – pretty fair all around. Definitely a spot to hit up for a laid-back evening.

I love this place so much. Been cycling past it for many years and finally a few months ago came to their wonderful pub quiz and now it's a weekly pilgrimage. The team are what makes this place so great to visit.

Came in with some friends on our visit to London and this place was close by to our hotel Doubletree by Hilton. The place was very welcoming and nicely decorated. Nice homely feel and festive! It was busy and lively. The staff were absolutely superb. Very attentative and helpful, always assuring we were okay and if we needed anything. We ended up ordering some food which was delish and very reasonably priced. Menu had a decent variety and plenty to choose from. Meals were yum and good portion sizes. Cant fault the place we loved it and would defo come back.

Great place for food and drinks. Also toilets clean. We had the lamb shank, which was fab. Have eaten here before, but forgot to review.

Visited our nearest pub for a Sunday Roast with a neighbor. Had the Lamb shank which was big. Overall it was a tasty meal and little to complain about. My partners Beef was well done which was a shame given we ate quite early, but it's hard to time for such a long service. Lovely garden and table service too, which was a bonus. Would visit again.

Nice pub with a really nice outdoor space. Plenty of room inside and out with a good range of beers. Old photos showing the docks before redevelopment were interesting to look at. Tucked away so tends to just be locals but welcoming.

One of my favourite pubs in London. Have been out of the country for 7 years but this place is still the same . Great beer, food, atmosphere and service. Its a traditional pub eith a very nice beer garden. When ever back in London will always make a visit. The bbq Ribs promotion on Wednesday is well worth it.

Friendly welcome. Good selection of food including several vegan dishes. We had very tasty generous sized salads and enjoyed sitting outside in the sheltered sunny garden. Nice atmosphere inside too.

Decent pub food with homely atmosphere. Our waitstaff didn’t now what drinks were available or bring kids menus when we obviously had kids. Apart from that it was great.

Very nice, cozy, comfy not too crowded pub. We came for sunday roast it was delicious and the portion was very good. However potatoes quality could be better but still lamb shank was delicious.
