It’s not really “free” to enter but 100 UAH to pay. But of course it’s worth paying the amount as you’ll get to see amazing monastery with so many beautiful ornaments around. Do not miss the viewpoint as you’ll be able to see nice view under the river and to the war museum down south.

Beautiful place!!! Lots to see so make sure you have plenty of time. The bell tower is a little bit of a workout but completely worth it. The architecture, artwork, grounds and history is quite amazing.

To see that how important religion is and bears basic values for Ukrainian people, one cannot be surpired to see this monastery complex being a historical site and a day-to-day worship place at once. The buildings are in very good shape and the architecture - just like in all Kiev and Ukrain - are so compelling and uplifting that one start to wonder how they keep in touch with God real time? Visit the catacombs to see the preserved history and stroll along with the locals to feel their love and devotion first hand. Out of tradition and respect ladies has to wear a skirt and a scarf over head but don't worry, they are well equipped to provide you with these! Takig pictures obviously prohibited down there but you will never forget this experience!

I visited just before the start of war, so my review is based on my experience at that time. A beautiful and historic monument in Kyiv. Arguably the centre of the Slavic Orthodox religion. I wish to visit again when things are back to normal.

This is an amazing site to discover in Kyiv. Visit the church, see the mirror egg outside. The outstanding architecture. You need to visit this as travellers. It's a must and less than $5 to visit. On my visit there was some coffee machine outside, was very tasteful.

This is a refreshingly happy of sorts religious monument. Forget about being a tourist and just join the crowds, go around and soak the atmosphere. You’ll see groups praying, pilgrims kissing icons, priests care of daily chores and the like. Highly recommended if you’re into vibe and not just seeing a monument.

The biggest religious place I have ever seen, and it is beautiful and clean. You can see a lot of ceremonies while you are visiting. Great way to observe and meet with new cultures.

Beautiful complex. It's very large, and there are many places you can enter. There are two sets of caves, which are quite similar to each other. It's free to enter the caves, but it's suggested you buy a candle (very inexpensive) to see around, as they're quite dark. Going into most of the churches and chapels are also free. Women should wear a longer skirt or pants, but if you're wearing something short, or your pants are deemed too tight, they have wraps you can borrow. Definitely worth a look around, and you can easily spend a few hours there looking at everything.

Beautiful place that impressed me very much. You feel the history of the buildings through the walls. Worth to see it visiting Kijev. Inside there is few places where you can sit down and enjoy the silence. Keep in mind that it is a holly place, so I recommend to stay quiet to not disturb prayers.

It seems to be a complex of church and holy place- i just describe my experience. there was many priest i think it is kind of university for them as well. again i just describe my conclusion. The whole are is so big there was a amazing wooden bridge with nice view - the place had such a relaxing environment - there was a entry fee (very little) to the main churches, it was a underground type with no light. you could buy some candle as a donation and use it to light the inside church cus it was dark. It was near a museum and motherland statue. so you can visit both at once.

Wonderfull monastery and impressive "caves". Just a pity, that's my personal opinion, that there are.so many markets, shops ... Religion / money. It's true, nobody is forced to buy sth. Anyway, wonderfull place !!! Enjoy the visit to think about what is really important in your life.!!

The Perchersk Lavra is one of the best places I've ever seen! The monastery complex is huge and there is SO much to see. I would recommend seeing the main building, the caves and the folk and miniature art museum. It is all breathtaking and so beautiful. The caves are a wonderful experience, you don't have to be religious, just cover your hair and skin and remember to have some change to hand for your candle. This is a must see!! Oh and the bell tower offers spectacular views of the city!

I had a terrible experience visiting Kiev Pechersk Lavra. The staff was unhelpful and unfriendly. They seemed to be in a hurry and did not have time to answer my questions. To make matters worse, my money and card were stolen while I was there. The place was overcrowded and the atmosphere was unpleasant. The air was stale and the smell was unbearable. The architecture and art were old and poorly maintained. The walls were dirty and the floors were dusty. The lighting was dim and it was difficult to see anything clearly. The audio guide was not helpful and the signs were confusing. I was expecting to learn about the history and culture of the place, but anything but that was the case. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If possible, I would have given 0 stars.

One of the oldest and most significant places of Ukrainian and Kievan Rus’ cultural history. Women must wear a headscarf and a long skirt in the caves. The caves where the hermits lived and many mummified remains can be seen by a guided tour.

I would recommend any religious and non religious person to visit this monastery especially the lower caves. The architecture and symbology has a lot of meaning and is very beautiful. The whole place resonates with what is inside of you and you always leave in high spirits. Women, for the caves, remember to bring a scarf to cover your hair and if possible a skirt that goes past your knees (there are kilts if you forget). Also purchase a candle 🕯 (costs pennies) to walk through the dim lit caves.

This place is easy to get to from the metro station. The views are beautiful. I went quite late, just before sundown to visit and capture good light. Well worth a visit and you can then walk down to motherland statue. Very beautiful place.

One of most important greek catholic cloisters. Wonderful. There are a lot of mummified dead person inside. The upper Lavra church is beautiful. It was closed during communism. Reopened in 1988. The tower is the highest point of Kiev.

Amazing place definitely worth a visit, my advice though make sure you use the restroom before coming here as the restrooms are very...archaic to say the least. Definitely one of the most impressive churches/monasteries I've ever been to though

Amazing place to visit. Spent most of the day here with family wandering around taking in the wonderful architecture both inside and outside of the buildings. So wanted to lie on the floor of several of the churches to gaze at the amazing artwork on the ceilings. Highly recommend

Highly overrated tourist attraction. Yes the athmosphere is cool when you walk in and experience the darkness in the caves. But there are a ton of tourists who have semi-descent behavior. Plus they tell you to buy a candle on top of the entrance fee. Wouldn't recommend anyone to go here to be honest

Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra or Kyivo-Pechers’ka Lavra also known as the Kiev Monastery of the Caves, is a historic Orthodox Christian monastery which gave its name to one of the city districts where it is located in Kiev. Since its foundation as the cave monastery in 1051, the Lavra has been a preeminent center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity in Eastern Europe. Together with the Saint Sophia Cathedral, it is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery complex is considered a separate national historic-cultural preserve (sanctuary), the national status to which was granted on 13 March 1996.The Lavra is not only located in another part of the city, but is part of a different national sanctuary than Saint Sophia Cathedral. While being a cultural attraction, the monastery is once again active, with over 100 monks in residence. It was named one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine on 21 August 2007, based on voting by experts and the internet community.[citation needed] Currently, the jurisdiction over the site is divided between the state museum, National Kyiv-Pechersk Historic-Cultural Preserve,[9] and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as the site of the chief monastery of that Church and the residence of its leader, Onufrius, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine. The word pechera means cave. The word lavra is used to describe high-ranking male monasteries for monks of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Therefore, the name of the monastery is also translated as Kiev Cave Monastery, Kiev Caves Monastery or the Kiev Monastery of the Caves (на печерах). According to the Primary Chronicle, in the early 11th century, Anthony, an Orthodox monk from Esphigmenon monastery on Mount Athos, originally from Liubech of the Principality of Chernihiv, returned to Rus' and settled in Kiev as a missionary of monastic tradition to Kievan Rus'. He chose a cave at the Berestov Mount that overlooked the Dnieper River and a community of disciples soon grew. Prince Iziaslav I of Kiev ceded the whole mount to the Anthonite monks who founded a monastery built by architects from Constantinople.

(Translated by Google) Many tourist attractions and many shrines for pilgrims. About 100 shrines with holy relics and about 10 churches on the territory. I was especially impressed by the "warm" temple by its unofficial name (it is also the temple of all the saints of the Caves). Go there and lift your head up to the ceiling))))) I have never seen such a painting anywhere, the feeling is created as if all the saints from the sky are looking at you !!!! There is also an icon of the Tsaritsa in front of which prayers for seriously ill people are served ..

It can be a bit difficult to find the caves, because their signs are not so visible that they have separated the entrance and exit of the cave separately due to the virus. Long story short, take a long walk and be careful not to enter the part reserved only for Christians if you are not a Christian. (Translated by Google) The Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra (Ukrainian Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra) is one of the first monasteries in Kievan Rus. One of the most important Orthodox shrines, the third Lot of the Mother of God. The Pechersk Monastery was founded in 1051 under Yaroslav the Wise by the monk Anthony, a native of Lyubech, and his disciple Theodosius. Prince Svyatoslav II Yaroslavich presented the monastery with a plateau above the caves (from where, in fact, the name of the monastery came from), where later beautiful stone temples, decorated with paintings, cells, fortress towers and other buildings grew. The names of the chronicler Nestor (author of The Tale of Bygone Years) and the artist Alipy are associated with the monastery. From 1592 to 1688 it was the stavropegia of the Patriarch of Constantinople. During this period, the Pechersk Monastery was one of the most important spiritual strongholds of resistance to the union, as well as a hotbed for the formation of Little Russian identity. In 1688 the monastery received the status of a lavra [1] and became "a stavropegion of the royal and patriarchal of Moscow"; in 1786 the lavra was subordinated to the Kiev metropolitan, who became its holy archimandrite. In the Near and Far Caves of the Lavra, the relics of Orthodox saints rest, in the Lavra there are also burials of lay people (for example, the grave of Pyotr Stolypin). Currently, the Lower Lavra is under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), and the Upper Lavra is under the jurisdiction of the Kiev-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve (Original)

(Translated by Google) There is a separate life, getting into the territory everything is as if you find yourself in another space. The attitude is good. There is a business component, but on the one hand it is a little annoying, on the other hand, it delights that they have adjusted and provide services. For example, if you didn’t take a bottle, but want to collect water, you can buy a bottle. True, its cost is 10 UAH, which is a little more for a bottle of water in a supermarket. If you have not been there, be sure to go. Especially to the museum of miniatures, I love him since childhood.

You can enter the caves for free, but it is recommended to buy a candle (very inexpensive) to look around, because they are quite dark. Admission to most churches and chapels is also free. Women should wear a longer skirt or pants, but if you wear something short or your pants are considered too tight, they have wraps that you can borrow. Definitely worth a look around and you can easily spend a few hours there looking at everything.
