This park is a little-known gem and after one visit, it is one of my favorite Virginia State Parks. Amidst rugged (and somewhat remote) terrain, the scenery is beautiful. The highlight feature is the natural tunnel through the mountain, upon which a railroad line has been laid. Take the chairlift down to the tracks at the tunnel entrance for the best view. The park also has several well marked and maintained trails, offering nice scenery. We stayed in the campground; there are also yurts and cabins to stay in.

Very crazy place! The tunnel is immense. Very quiet since visitors have been visiting a lot less. Good hike/walk around

Super cool, definitely worth seeing. We hiked our way down to see the tunnel, it's off-season so the month of March the chairlift is not in operation. The hike up was challenging, good thing they put benches to catch your breath. We really enjoy this beautiful park

I had a wonderful visit at the park. I camped for three nights. The park is so interesting with the train tunnel. I ran most of the trails which were in very good condition. I think this park has the most picnic areas of any park I have visited. The campground was totally clean and the camp host was fantastic. It's a wonderful destination and will certainly be returning.

What a great out of the way park! There are picnic areas, bathrooms and in the summer there is an AMAZING pool area! This area has some other great parks, Daniel Boone... and it's a very good experience and learning!

Lover's Leap campground great sites and bathhouse. LL15 gets a lot of sun. Trails are well marked and maintained. The hike to the tunnel is short but a good workout.

This was the best state campground we have ever experience. We had site 10 so much room. The bathhouse unbelievable the cleanest bathroom and showers we have ever seen. And the laundromat. The staff remarkable, they are the friendliness staff and willing to assist you. You have privacy on your site. It’s a steep drive but if you have a good truck, then you will have no problem. We are definitely coming back to camp here. And also the rangers that have demonstrations they are so nice and easy and patient when you volunteered to do whatever they are demonstrating that day. Like to thank all the rangers and staff at natural tunnel for their hard work and making it very nice for all of us who camp there. We had travel trailer 38 feet. Easy back in.

Wonderful place! My family went here for Sukkot. The mountains were beautiful!! Our cabin was clean … cleaner than most hotels. My only complaint were the stink bugs cause we were near the woods. We hiked the mountain (which I do not recommend in flats, lesson learned, easy to hike down, had to take several stops going up) as well as took the lift (a short ride)to see the tunnel. So many nearby places to visit and see as well. I would definitely like to go again sometime.

I went to the first lighting of the tunnel. It's not at all as advertised. It had very few Christmas lights to see, 3 fire pits to gather around, and you cannot go into the tunnel. There were no Christmas carols. A bus had to be taken to the chair lift and parking was far away. We went with 11 members of our family and we did not have very much fun. It is $5 for parking and $5 for the chair lift. The chair lift going up was very far off the ground. On the way down it is quiet close to the ground and the weeds hit my legs and feet. It is only $3 each for the chair lift if you have 8 or more people. I think it would have been better if there were more decorations to see. Also it is not handicap accessible as advertised, lots of walking. Some people from our group did not go to the cabin because of accessibility. The lights pictured is about all there was.

We had lots of fun as a family exploring and seeing the tunnel. There is also a cabin that is from 1774. It's very cool to see. Kids had fun playing in the water. We used the ski lift to go down to the tunnel and back up. They also have a small information area and a gift shop back up at the top. They charge a daily fee to come in and park $5 per car. And there is an optional trail instead of the ski lift. We opted to pay to use ski lift for both ways $5 per person. Overall, we had lots of fun and will be back.

Extremely nice park all set up for Christmas. From the Christmas Lights, to decorations , the seats around an open fire. Christmas music playing through out the entire park , the Carter trail and cabin to the popcorn and hot chocolate along with more snacks and drinks makes for a wonderful time and getting the mood set for a glorious spiritual Christmas.

We were there for Railroad Day so we could walk on the tracks the only time of the year to do so. The green moss on the rocks was magical. We took the chairlift down and walked back up. We then walked the Tunnel Trail back to the picnic area where we were parked. We had a great time! We were told you can do guided walks through the tunnel via the creek several times a week.

The people who work here are extremely friendly. This was my third trip to the park, trying to catch a train. So far, I've failed, but I'll keep on trying. Eventually, it will happen. I am very happy to see the chair lift back in service on this visit. I could just ride on that all day and be happy.

Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful natural wonder of the earth!!! We visited on railroad day so we actually went into the tunnel. Do not attempt to walk back up the path unless you are in pristine physical shape. I literally thought I was going to die. Ride the chair lift. Ride. The. Chair. Lift. Honestly the only issue and it wasn’t really an issue was that the girls working the chair lift were rude in the form of just staring at me and my daughter. I thought there was an issue with my weight (165lbs) by the way they were looking at me so I said to them. β€œY’all are giving me anxiety over this by staring at us is there an issue?” Absolutely no reply. So other than that we had a great time.

Really cool place to walk around and see incredible views and natural beauty. Neat history to discuss with the kids. Definitely coming back later in the year when the chair lift is operating.

Awesome sights all around. The view from lover's leap was breathtaking and great views from below also. Alot of stairs to the bottom (lift only runs on the weekend now). And if you're lucky (I was), a train will come thru.

Very nice in the fall. Camping facilities are clean and well kept. The weekend before Halloween, they had Appalachian storytelling and music on the platform at the base of the gorge/tunnel entrance. It was unique and fun. A lot of good, friendly people here.

What an amazing place! The tunnel is about 7 stories high and 60 yards wide. The view point is about 18th floor up and let you enjoy the entire scenery! (Just don't drop your phone...🀳🫣) The park rangers are super duper awesome as well. They accommodated my daughter's wheelchair needs during our visit, even the chairlift ride. They coordinated with the low side and got a rental one ready for free. After the return ride, a park ranger showed our kids how the chairlift works and let them push some buttons under her supervision. The rail is active and you will get to see the train if you are lucky - according to the ranger, the train πŸš‚ schedule is random. Lastly, one ranger had tons of animal footprint casts and let the kids pick and paint them. Ten thumbs up and Highly recommend!!! πŸ™Œ

Great place to visit with the family. It was $5 to park. There is a chair lift that will take you down to where the tunnel is at a cost of $5 per person. The lift was not running when we were there likely because it was past season. There is a path down to the tunnel that is approximately 1/3 miles of a mile. It is not stiller accessible so plan on carrying any little ones. The path has a rail and steps and plenty of places to catch your breath. It is definitely easier to go down than up! The view of a beautiful as you descend. There is an active train track going through the tunnel so you cannot walk into the tunnel but it still worth the trip! There is also a little cabin along the path you can see.

Nearly empty in late December. Most facilities are closed. Kids loved exploring the Carter Cabin, Blockhouse and overlooks. Stayed in Cabin 10. Very clean and spacious. FYI no linens or towels in the cabins.

What a great park! The tunnel was awesome and the chairlift ride down to it was fun. The lift operators were very friendly and helpful as were any of the workers we encountered in the park. Everyone acted like they were geninually glad we were there. We stayed a week in a cabin and it too was awesome. My only complaint was that the park service could install dishwashers in these cabins. It's no fun having to wash dishes while everyone else is out on the porch enjoying themselves. Even with help it is still a chore. That Being said, the kitchen was well stocked with cooking stuff, way more than at some other cabins we have stayed at in the other parks. Still, somebody has to wash them. The park is beautiful and the area is beautiful. We loved our stay.

Fantastic journey through a magical Christmas wonderland complete with lights, music, Santa, food, and the natural beauty of the tunnel. Everything from the shuttle to the chair lift ride was planned extremely well. The lines moved quickly and efficiently. Visitors as well as staff seemed to be having a great time. I can't wait to return.

Came for the Christmas lights experience. It was a lot of fun (fire pits, free marshmallows, letters to Santa, create your own ornament) and the tunnel is pretty incredible. I recommend riding the chairlift back up.

Nice park, chair lift was fun, so was the cave tour. We rented a cabin which was a pretty deal good and dog friendly! The devils bathtub hike is very popular in the summer so parking was hard and the site a bit crowded.

Nice state park. The chair lift was closed and store they were only open on weekends when we visited. Hiked to the bottom it wasn't to bad. Got lucky and a train came by it was pretty cool. Little cabin is down there also.

We loved this wonder of the world. Unfortunately the chair lift wasn't running the wrong time of the yr. But we did do all of those steps, and there is a lot, but it is well worth it.. It's a must-see if you're in the area, do it

Generally it was a nice experience! We loved the chairlift option for the people who don’t want to hike up and down! We walked down and up on the hike and the hike wasn’t that hard! We found some raspberries and they were really delicious! The park was very clean, people were very friendly! The tunnel and the view are amazing! Overall, we enjoyed our little trip at the Natural Tunnel Park!

Stayed at β€œLovers Leap” campground. The sites were not level, but not so bad that some leveling blocks couldn’t fix. Power, water, gravel site with picnic table, fire ring, and trash pole. All well maintained. There was also a decent amount of space in-between so you didn’t feel like you were on top of your neighbor. The tunnel and trails were interesting to see/use, but the cave tour was the show stealer. Such a quiet and beautiful place!

Highly recommend 10/10. Some highlights are: -Cave tours -Tunnel tours (Stock Creek Passage) -Canoe and kayak tours -Self-guided hikes -Kids activities Most programs are free/low priced. Stop by!

Beautiful scenery!!! Pictures do not do it justice! Very friendly Park rangers and nice museum and gift shop. The chairlift is super affordable and brings you right down to the views. You can also see the Wilderness House that was used back in the day and beautiful campgrounds. Very kid- friendly!

Went for the Tunnel State Park Christmas event. It is highly recommended to go to the events. It was a perfect night to go, full moon and lots of pretty Christmas lights to view. I want to come back in the day time to see the tunnel. It was a little foggy to see at night. But it was a wonderful experience. Definitely do the chair lift both ways. It's a long walk if not. Very magical at night.
