A grand bridge straddling the River Dee, built by William Hazledine and designed by Thomas Telford. A lovely spot along the Dee. We canoed here from Eccleston Ferry Parking ~ 2 miles back towards Chester. Beautiful stretch of the Dee with very little flow to paddle against surprisingly. Plenty of wildlife to look out for... we've spotted Buzzards, American Mink, and Kingfishers. There's a short pleasant length of the Coddington Brook tributary you can paddle along (until you reach the overhanging trees). The entrance is near to the iron bridge with the old stone Aldford bridge not too far along the brook.

It is a very enjoyable walk for an unplanned evening, and pleases young children. There is plenty to look at, and it leaves you in a great mood for the rest of the day.

👍👍 Lovely gardens full of interesting plants. You can have a stroll round the lake and the courtyard. Look out for the 3 open days for charity. You'll need to book your ticket in advance; info on their website. Highly recommended. We did the autumn open day last year, the summer one this year. So wil...
