Divey speakeasy vibe with middle of the road cocktails and gastro pub fare, delivered with friendly service. We sat in the downstairs Side Door speakeasy of sorts, which felt more like a dive bar rather than a classic speakeasy, but not in a bad way. Our server was a one-man bartender and server and held it down with a full room which was admirable. The food was mixed. The wings were solid, the peppers decent, the chicken sandwich disappointing (oddly tough chicken, maybe not the best quality) and the sausage quite tasty. Enjoyed the popular Blue Milk (Suntory Roku Gin, Calpico, Blue Curacao, Falernum, Lemon, Cardamom, Orange Bitters) but not the Ten Sins (Mezcal Banhez, Tequila Rooster Rojo Blanco, Elderflower, Yellow Chartreuse, Dry Vermouth, Campari). Nice local spot, but nothing worth crossing neighborhood lines to get to.

We really enjoyed this place. We had the Heidi Chicken sandwich, Arugula salad with steak, and Blistered Shishito peppers. All were very good. The peppers were fantastic. Service was great. Nice local place with cool decor. I would definitely recommend this place. UPDATE: We went back again. Food and service was good. They now have empanadas that are really good. UPDATE: We went back a 3rd time. The Heidi Fried Chicken sandwich was much smaller than before. It was okay but would probably order something different next time. We also had the zucchini fritti and wings. Both were good.

I ordered a quesadilla for $11, and I don't think it was even large enough to feed my cat. I never send food back, but I am not paying $11 for this! Cubano sandwich was really good and fairly priced. Service was good.

Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, great food and awesome drinks. We left right before they started playing trivia, the place was filling up for the event. I hear there’s also a speakeasy in the basement on the weekends… ;)

3 seems harsh but 4 seems too high, so ideally I’d say a 3.5. We reserved one of their fire spots outside. Food and drinks were good but service was soooo slow and the fire couldn’t stay lit very well, so it became cold and unenjoyable towards the end. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they were just understaffed that night but it dampened the experience for sure.

Pub and the People is our favorite outdoor spot in Bloomingdale. The beers they have on tap are great, and the food (specifically, the Black Bean burger and "The Heidi" Fried Chicken sandwich) is very solid. The tempura cauliflower sauce is also amazing. Matt, the manager, is very friendly and just a welcoming face to see when you come in. This radiates through the whole staff. The happy hour specials are awesome, and run for most of the day on the weekends. Enjoy!

Very great experience here ! We’ve passed this place numerous times and I’ve always said I wanted to try it. So, we finally did ! I ordered the Heidi chicken sandwich which was very tasteful. It came with a side of fries which were also very good. The service was great - 3 or 4 people continuously came to check on us. I’d definitely eat here again.

They have outside dining with personal fire pits, people! Combine that with a cozy drink and dinner menu, and this place is a great time with you and a few friends. Very attentive, friendly and helpful staff, also this place is dog friendly. The atmosphere is casual and a good place to meet up for almost any occasion, inside or outside. The only critique I could give is probably a little more choice on the food menu, but everything on it is already solid so that's not a bad thing. Have to give it 5 stars.

We sat at the bar and enjoyed our lunch and beverage! The bartender was excellent! The bar wall is full of amazing liquors to try. We had "The Heidi" and the blistered Shishito Peppers, fabulous! What a great place to visit!

This place is amazing. The atmosphere is very nice, and the food is excellent. My wife and I go here every week, and enjoy it every time. The tempura cauliflower is especially good, and well worth trying if you get a chance. Finally, the staff is outstanding: courteous, attentive, and friendly, to name just a few of their many positive qualities. I highly recommend coming here if you get the opportunity.

We went to this wonderful neighborhood restaurant just after everything had reopened for outside dining after the quarantine. The service was friendly (as always) and you can tell they were excited to be back serving guests at the restaurant. I had the crispy pork sandwich with fries and the salad with rosemary dressing. The sandwich was seasoned and cooked so perfectly and was just a nice surprise for how it was served. The fries were hot and seasoned with just the right amount of seasoning. The salad was so good! I really loved the hint of rosemary throughout the salad with the dressing. I am so glad I added that on. This has always been a neighborhood favorite and we are just glad they are back and open for us to come back and eat out!

The wait staff were friendly and professional!! The restaurant was also clean and well presented. 10/10 place if you're in the NoMa neighborhood. Made a reservation for the side door and got drinks and dinner. The food was delicious, high quality bar food. The staff was all very nice and the place overall had a homey feel. Will absolutely be returning. Loved it!

Great neighborhood bar with friendly and quick service! I haven’t had much of the food but the fried chicken sandwich and fries is one of the best bar food dishes I’ve ever had! The way they cook the chicken and fries (pan fried rather than deep fried) gives them such a fresh taste. Great beer selection too!

Decent dig just off North Capitol. It’s nice sometimes to not have to deal with downtown traffic and parking issues. A bit on the pricier side for a neighborhood joint, but would still go again.

Such a nice place! The food was excellent and the drinks were great. You can tell it’s a neighborhood bar because the bartenders really knew the patrons and seemed to have a nice relationship with them. Danny the bartender is great! You can tell the workers here care about the quality of food and service they provide. Can’t wait to go back!

Great, casual place to meet for a drink. Long bar and high tops inside. Patio is nice, too. We moved outside because there was trivia night inside which got too loud and distracting for conversation. I didn’t eat anything, and the service was OK. We had to add wood to the fire pit to keep warm and our drink order was forgotten. I’d go back though!

The menu here is mislabeled for allergies. There are multiple items listed as gluten free that have gluten and I’ve brought it up a few times and have been told it’s ’a menu typo’. I ordered a salad — one of the few options I can actually eat — and asked for it to be gluten free and it still came with fried shallots! I don’t get it. It’s not that hard to get it right, and it’s dangerous to be so wrong!

Amazing bartenders. Some of they best bar food in DC, if you can even call it bar food. Good drink selection. Good music. Trivia on Monday nights. Very friendly crowds.

A great local spot for the Eckington area. I saw a sandwich that had guacamole on it on the menu and knew I needed to figure out how that flavor combination would work out. Turns out it was a fairly flawless pairing! It might’ve been a different story if the guac has a bit more flavor but still a tasty sandwich. The side of sweet potatoes was colorful with three different kinds but they weren’t particularly appetizing or fully cooked. The beer selection at this place was phenomenal! With selections from across the nation, I was able to find and enjoy a beer from a Kansas City brewery I had worked at.

For what this place is, I give it 5 stars. It's right off of a bust street in the beautiful Bloomingdale neighborhood. It's the life and soul of the neighborhood with its outdoor seating and chill vibe. It's a new kind of bar that offers a large selection of drinks and a quality food menu. I ordered the daily seasonal sangria for $6 and the chicken breast sandwich with a side of corn on the cob. Both were amazing! Pub and the People will make you feel urban chic and so grateful to live in a city like DC!

Great bar. It’s truly a neighborhood place. There are books available to read, a small selection of drafts at a good price , friendly bartenders, and vegan options in the menu! There’s a comfy scene here on a Sunday. This place is a gem.

I had the pumpkin Mac and cheese - it was perfect comfort food. We went to Monday night trivia and the place is small so it gets filled quickly. But it was fun bc there are few groups so we won a random bonus question round and got a free pint. I’ll be back

Such a cool vibe - love the heated tent with all the lights and decorations, and the blankets they provide you! The holiday themed drink menu was delicious; I got the “what’s Santa having” and it was potent. We also ordered the brownie dessert and it was delicious. Definitely coming back here!

Pleasant enough vibe and was lively at time of visit. The IPA I had was great but I was a little disappointed on the food. The portion size was certainly on the smaller size for the US and the French fries were overdone to the edge of being burnt. Staff were excellent; attentive and polite.

    A) They have the Trinidad Sour on the menu. Big points for that. B) It’s a neighborhood spot. The trivia is low key. C) Food is haute for bar food, and it is good but not great. What do you expect though. No points docked for having only good food at a bar.

  • 5/5 Jason H. 4 years ago on Google
There is a reason this place was voted best neighborhood bar! That reason is the atmosphere. Neighbors from the adjacent streets converge to eat delicious food, sip exquisite cocktails, and sample the well appointed beer menu. Sports are on the two TVs, but people interaction is the focal point.

They have vegan and vegetarian options for the regular menu but none for the brunch menu. And when I asked for an off menu item all he could offer me was fries.....it quite ridiculous and I don’t understand why there are not plant based brunch options or why I was not able to order off the regular menu because plant based brunch items were not available.

An exceptionally average place with an identity crisis. Staff - I visited for the Superbowl as I just moved to NoMA. The place was not busy and despite three people being on the floor and only about 10 patrons I had to wait a considerable time for every drink and food order. One gentleman stopped his job to interrupt the halftime show to discuss how he and his man parts felt for Shakira. Despite the slow service, everyone was friendly Food - A limited menu, which would leave one to believe the food would be exceptional, it's not. I had the chicken sandwich. The homemade ice cream was absolutely delicious and worth the 3 dollars.

Nice place with a small food menu. I had the beer Mac and Cheese and it arrived quickly to the table. I had no complaints about the service, but the Mac and Cheese does lack flavor in my opinion. I had another member in my party try a small portion also and they agreed it has a flat taste. I would consider returning here, but I will definitely try something different off the food menu next time.

Came for Sunday brunch. Got the smoked salmon sandwich, it was okay. Heavy on the cream cheese…a harder bread texture would be better than a burger bun imo. The gravy on the biscuits was good though. Overall, would not go back for brunch, too many other places to try in dc.

This is my new favorite place!! Moved to town just before the Pandemic and I have been wanting to give this place a try ever since. I finally got the chance this past weekend and cannot wait to go back. The food is inspired with something for everyone. The drinks, well crafted and perfectly executed. The decor, tastfully blending traditional and modern. Run to this place! GO NOW!!

Not sure what happened to this place. The drinks we got were fine, but the food was pretty subpar. Got the Cuban sandwich and the fries that came with it were way too peppered and salty. The food used to be great here. The vibe is still good - cozy and perfect for winter time.

Ardbeg scotch was good...Bartender polite and attentive. DC Government is requiring Vaccine card to be brought in person to enter a bar... OK, I've reviewed a lot of restaurants, and this one was a chance encounter. Trip to DC, Air BNB nearby, popped in on our last night. Very cool decor, loved the shelving behind the bar with the books and booze mixed, industrial chic. Waitress was great, bartender was great, food was even better. My family of four all got different burgers and sandwiches and all were fantastic. Taps were pretty stellar and they had my favorite Great Lakes Brewing Co. beer, the Elliot Ness. My only regret is not actually living in the area so I can go back. TLDR definitely recommended. Get your A in here.

The food here was amazing! I got “the heidi” and it was by far the best burger i’ve ever eaten. The guacamole was delicious and added extra flavor to the burger. The bacon was deliciously crispy and not to mention how much flavor the chipotle aoili added to the burger. Although I was disappointed they were out of fries, they did substitute them for any of their side and they did have home fries but ran out of those too. I give it 4 starts because as a small restaurant with a small menu, I wouldn’t expect you to run out of the main side that you offer. Other than that, service was good and I have a 10/10 experience. (no pictures added because the burger was gone the moment it hit the table)

A great local pub for people in Eckington and Bloomingdale. The pub offers a great selection of beers, wine, and cocktails as well as an excellent food menu (try the tempura cauliflower, chicken sandwich, and the fries). In the winter they offer group seating around large fire pits for small gatherings. I found that to be a huge boon when trying to gather friends outdoors while being mindful of COVID during the winter. The staff are nice and helpful.

This was my first time, and what a find it is! Pub & the People has a slight vibe of a dive bar/pub, and a I mean that in a good way. We were there in the middle of the day, so we weren't able to enjoy trivia or the downstairs "speakeasy, " but we thoroughly enjoyed the main pub. The menu is not terribly adventurous, but it does go beyond typical pub fare, and the food was notably better than I had expected. Additionally, my cocktail was made by a bartender who takes pride in his/her craft. This is all too rare in pubs of this type, and that drink alone was enough for me to look forward to returning very soon. Well done, Pub & the People. Well done, indeed!

This is my neighborhood pub and I went there last Sunday (Feb. 19th) evening for the first time. I tried cauliflower tempura and mac & cheese and they were decent. I had an unfortunate experience and sadly unsure if I can go back. Me and my friends were seated indoors where the space is a bit small but cozy. The waitress stepped on my coat and somehow dragged it. My chair moved a solid 6 inches and was off balance. I looked in her direction to make sure she was ok. The waitress didn't even bother to look back and kept going like nothing happened. These are the facts. I will reserve my feelings about it to myself.

This bar has been a mainstay of this neighborhood for years, and for good reason. They carry a wide selection of drinks, especially beer, and their pub food is no fuss but tastes really good. They have a decent sized patio, which does get noisy given its off North Cap, but is still a treat. Plenty of indoor seating too especially at the bar.

Traveled to DC on leisure from Massachusetts. Stopped in on Wednesday 4/12/23 for a cocktail. Awesome spot. Thomas was our bartender....he was awesome. Def worth checking out. Overall cool vibe.

The place is great, the food and drinks are tasty. Take-away portions are ridiculously stingy with their sizes vs. price paid. I know inflation and all, but beer and food price is consistently really high like everything in the neighborhood. Their Heidi chicken sandwich is their best in my opinion. Great place to meet and hangout with friends.

We really wanted to like this place since it was only a 10 minute away from us. The food is good and the bartender (a man with a bun and wearing a shirt with yellow ducks or leaves on it) was wonderful. Our server (a woman with dark brown hair in a side ponytail and glasses in her hair was abysmal. She came to our table a total of 3 times. She would disappear for 15-29 minutes at a time and the bartender would have to check in and take orders for table. She never once checked on us or asked how things were. Our bartender brought us our drinks and took our order for food and drinks. He checked in and refilled our water more than once. She refilled our water a single time and said no words and proceeded to check on and speak to other tables and did not check on us. We had plates sitting out our table which she never came to get. We genuinely felt invisible. We wonder if the downstairs area Side Door is better suited for patrons with certain skin complexions since our waitress was oblivious to our existence the entire time we were there. First and last time at this “speakeasy” bar.

It's a fine spot for a quick bite or drink in the area. One star off for all the sugar on your menu (pretty much every meat dish has some sweet sauce) but overall it's good. It's a regular quick stop for us!

I used to be a regular customer. During a recent snowstorm, I ordered dinner on-line. Trudge through the snow to pick it up, only to find out that they were closed. But they took my money. Went back to complain. They said it was the fault of a third-party vendor that runs the website and they would reverse the charge right away. Didn't even offer an apology, much less a free drink or dessert to make up for the major inconvenience they had caused. A week later, they still have not refunded the money. They have lost me as a customer, and I hope my experience will dissuade some others from patronizing them.
