Mathura has an ancient history and also homeland and birthplace of Krishna who was born in Yadu dynasty. According to the Archaeological Survey of India plaque at the Mathura Museum, the city is mentioned in the oldest Indian epic, the Ramayana. In the epic, the Ikshwaku prince Shatrughna slays a demon called Lavanasura and claims the land. Afterwards, the place came to be known as Madhuvan as it was thickly wooded, then Madhupura and later Mathura.[2] In the 6th century BCE Mathura became the capital of the Surasena Kingdom.[3] The city was later ruled by the Maurya empire (4th to 2nd centuries BCE). Megasthenes, writing in the early 3rd century BCE, mentions Mathura as a great city under the name Μέθορα (Méthora).[4] It seems it never was under the direct control of the following Shunga dynasty (2nd century BCE) as not a single archaeological remain of a Shunga presence were ever found in Mathura.[5] Mathura may have come under the control, direct or indirect, of the Indo-Greeks some time between 180 BCE and 100 BCE, and remained so as late as 70 BCE according to the Yavanarajya inscription,[5] which was found in Maghera, a town 17 kilometres (11 mi) from Mathura.[6] The opening of the 3 line text of this inscription in Brahmi script translates as: "In the 116th year of the Yavana kingdom..."[7][8] or '"In the 116th year of Yavana hegemony" ("Yavanarajya")[5] However, this also corresponds to the presence of the native Mitra dynasty of local rulers in Mathura, in approximately the same time frame (150 BCE—50 BCE), possibly pointing to a vassalage relationship with the Indo-Greeks.[5] After a period of local rule, Mathura was conquered by the Indo-Scythians during the 1st century BCE. The Indo-Scythian satraps of Mathura are sometimes called the "Northern Satraps", as opposed to the "Western Satraps" ruling in Gujarat and Malwa. After Rajuvula, several successors are known to have ruled as vassals to the Kushans, such as the "Great Satrap" Kharapallana and the "Satrap" Vanaspara, who are known from an inscription discovered in Sarnath, and dated to the 3rd year of Kanishka (c. 130 CE), in which they were paying allegiance to the Kushans.[9] Mathuran art and culture reached its zenith under the Kushan dynasty which had Mathura as one of their capitals, the other being Purushapura (modern-day Peshawar, Pakistan).[10] Faxian mentions the city as a centre of Buddhism about 400 CE while his successor Xuanzang, who visited the city in 634 CE, mentions it as Mot'ulo, recording that it contained twenty Buddhist monasteries and five Brahmanical temples.[11] Later, he went east to Thanesar, Jalandhar in the eastern Punjab, before climbing up to visit predominantly Theravada monasteries in the Kulu valley and turning southward again to Bairat and then Mathura, on the Yamuna river.[12] The city was sacked and many of its temples destroyed by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1018 CE[11] and again by Sikandar Lodhi, who ruled the Sultanate of Delhi from 1489 to 1517 CE.[13][14] Sikander Lodhi earned the epithet of 'Butt Shikan', the 'Destroyer of Hindu deities'. The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, built the Shahi-Eidgah Mosque during his rule, which is adjacent to Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi believed to be over a Hindu temple.

We booked one package tour of six days of mathura through Sh. Gurudutt ji(kaushal ji ). After detailed discussions over phone dates were finalised in such a way that all holi festivals such as ladoo holi at shree ji, lath mar holi at नंदगाव, rangbharni holi at bankey bihari will be attended by us. Although package was initially for 5 days but on our request one day was added so that we may visit the temple again if required or to visit any temple which was left for any reason. Accordingly amount was charged. It was also agreed : 1. That the package includes pickup by car from home and visit of all temples of mathura, vrinadavan, barsana, gokul, janambhoomi. 2. Necessary arrangements for hassle free darshan in all temples for which assurances were given to us at the time of booking. 3. One guide to be allotted who will took us to all mandir / places. 4. Hotel room booking for six days. Accordingly we started our journey on date fixed and checkin the hotel room booked for us. Our experience during the visit : 1. First set back we got immediately after reaching mathura was that we were informed by our guide that ladoo holi at shree ji already performed a day before we reached mathura. 2. No arrangements were made for hassle free darshan in the temples or for attending holi festivals in mandir / nand gao. 3. We with our personal efforts and with the help of our guide Sh rishabh ji could able to made some arrangements for darshan. We are very thankful to Rishabh ji for his out of the way efforts for making arrangements for darshan at bankey bihari, nandgao, dwarkadheesh and radha raman. It was only due to his personal efforts darshan in mandir were made possible. Otherwise there were no arrngements by the tour operator for hasslefree darshans in mandir. At some places we have to shell out extra money to reach the mandir and for hassle free darshan. 4. Although the hotel room was good but the room service is not good, although we were told that hotel is 3star but even tea is not available after 10 pm and before 7 am in morning. Cost of meals is quite high. 5. On second last day we informed our taxi driver that next day we will be going to barsana as we could not visit there on scheduled day due to insufficient arrangements by tour operator but to our surprise driver refused to go there as according to him taxi was booked on terms of single visit at each temple and he has nothing to do even if darshans were not made possible due to insufficient arrangements by tour operator or for any other reason. I contacted Sh gurudutt ji. Although he agreed that the driver is not justified in refusing my request but no arrangements were made by him due to which we were compelled to return back without visiting barsana. 6. During check out we came to know from hotel staff that room for us was booked for 5 days instead of 6 days. Lastly we again offer our gratitude to Sh rishabh ji, our guide who is also brahmin and is having indepth knowledge, for enlighting us with the spiritual importance of all the temples and to be with us during our stay and also request the prospective customers to be careful. Thanks Thanks for your reply. I'm Abhishek

This guy is a plain fraud. I booked his service for a cab, a dedicated guide and a room for 2hrs just to get fresh. Everything was suppose to be in 4k. On the day of the journey we were give a used Oyo room with dirty bathroom. We managed anyhow but again to our surprise we were given a 7 seater Maruti with no AC. When we aske for a guide the answer was again negative. At the end of the day I just asked him to acknowledge the arrangements and experience were not as promised but the behaviour was too arrogant and bullish. I would suggest people with family to avoid this agency. A guide to travellers *Note standard charge for full day cab is 2000 A guide somewhere around 1500 You can get a temp hotel for 300 So avoid these frauds.

This guy is a complete fraud. I booked his package of 13k for 3 days but because of his poor and dirty services I had to leave early without paying a visit to vrindavan. This person only cares about the money that's it. No matter how far you have come from. He made my spiritual journey into a horrible story. Do not book him ever.
