2-3 minutes walk from Archaeological Museum Ropar/Rupnagar, Punjab. Good place to take a look at the excavations of Indus Valley Civilisation. The way to ancient site is in a street near Archaeological Museum Ropar. You can spend 30-45 minutes walking around the site as well as taking pictures. From the top, you can see a nice view of the town. If you are visiting the Archaeological Museum (Ropar) then you should also visit this site. The remains in the museum are related to this site. Ancient site like this needs to be taken care of more. The Indus Valley Civilisation (IVC), also known as the Harappan civilisation or Indus civilisation was a Bronze Age civilisation in the northwestern regions of South Asia, lasting from 3300 BCE to 1300 BCE, and in its mature form from 2600 BCE to 1900 BCE. The first Harappan site of Independent India. These excavations reveal a cultural sequence from Harappan to medieval times. The excavations were carried out by Dr. Y. D. Sharma of Archaeological Survey of India.

No information available. Poorly maintained. This place is the excavation site of material 4-5 millennia ago.. imagine how much a European country would have done to showcase this.. Three Stars just for the feeling you get when you know you're standing where a civilisation once stood when hardly any was there in the rest of the world

Ancient and Prehistoric era The Indus Valley Civilisation, also known as the Indus Civilisation was a Bronze Age civilisation in the northwestern regions of South Asia, lasting from 3300 BCE to 1300 BCE, and in its mature form 2600 BCE to 1900 BCE. Together with ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, it was one of three early civilisations of the Near East and South Asia, and of the three, the most widespread. Its sites spanned an area from much of Pakistan, to northeast Afghanistan, and northwestern India. The civilisation flourished both in the alluvial plain of the Indus River, which flows through the length of Pakistan, and along a system of perennial monsoon-fed rivers that once coursed in the vicinity of the Ghaggar-Hakra, a seasonal river in northwest India and eastern Pakistan.

Nothing much developed yet although good point to look at majority of city places. There is a palace but no details mentioned there as the exact history is unknown due to incomplete data with the government. Hopefully government can plan a heritage place with sight seeing features and also start some food items.

Ropar Head Works, Sirhind Canal. The Sirhind Canal is a large irrigation canal that carries water from the Sutlej River in Punjab state, India. It is one of the oldest and biggest irrigation works in the Indus river system, and was inaugurated in 1882 CE. The canal begins at Ropar headworks near Ropar city in Rupnagar district of Punjab.

Google map location for this place is incorrect. Actually the name of the place is archaeological Museum Ropar and it is situated opposite to government College Ropar. It is a must place to visit but please ensure that you don’t put Indus Valley civilisation in your Google maps and put government College Rubal or archaeological Museum, proper or just put Ajayab ghar. It is closed on Fridays other days. It is open from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Place is yet to be developed, asked local staff present at the site about the history but they said that there is no historical record of the building that is why the maintenance/resurrection of this building was stopped by the department. However, the site seeing is good and good spot for Pre-Wedding shoots.

The mound in Ropar encloses in itself the history unknown to us. And has yielded various artifacts from the distant past. The mound is located nearby the Archaeological Museum. It provides a bird's eye view of whole Ropar. And it is a visual splendor. The place itself doesn't have much to offer as it has an enclosed ancient building and a site which is usually closed. Good for a family outings.

Only one building is there. And a cool place to walk around

  • 4/5 pankaj p. 2 years ago on Google
It was kind of picnic spot. Peaceful because nobody wants to go when the temperature outside is 40+. There's a museum nearby you can visit there. I am assure you that it was not at all Crowded.

One of the most important historic locations of India, has practically no upkeep, no information provided on the significance of the site. there is one government officer who has converted some rooms of the Haveli structure into a living area with kitchen set up, etc. And he is getting angry at visitors to the spot as if it's his home
