Nice cozy little restaurant with cheap but yummy food. The way their tom yum noodle tasted was different from the ones i've had before. More on the sour side but it was definitely my favourite! Cash only unless u spend over 500 baht, and even for two people, the bill only came out to be under 400 baht.

Very cozy Thai family style restaurant. We really enjoyed the food here. Be aware that some dishes are quite spicy. Love the mango sticky rice here!

We just wanted non-spicy and fuss free fare, so selected 4 simple dishes at 600B (with drinks) for 3 pax. Loved how each dish was executed, especially the fried tofu with peanut dip! The eggs with tamarind sauce turned out better than expected. The stir fried chicken with cashew nuts (didn't take pic) was not bad too. Liked the unassuming service, home style but tasty food, and the classic retro ambience. Would love to return to try more dishes.

Authentic Chiang Mai style with classic jazzy playing at the background. Food is good with small portion. Location just right opposite Nimman One. Worth to try if you want some peaceful meal although beside the main road, you can enjoy it without hassle.

If you are mid age Asian, you will love this atmosphere. This place brings back a lot of childhood memories. The fried kuey teow (pad Thai) is a must! The portion is small (double the portion shown in photo), but the taste of it worth the price!

I ate alone at noon and went to a northern Thai restaurant called Hong Tauw Inn. I thought it was a tavern or a homestay just by looking at the word "Inn". There are so many dishes that I have a little difficulty choosing. For example, soups include minced meat tofu soup, minced meat Chinese cabbage soup, pineapple sliced meat soup, Tom Yum Kung soup, etc., as well as curry and various. I chose a soft shell crab, northern Thai sausage and water spinach. To be honest, the dishes are not big, and the dishes in another northern Thai restaurant that I went with my relatives and friends before were not big. Then I ordered a cup of iced coffee and forgot to remind me not to add sugar, but it was still delicious. The atmosphere in the store is very impressive. After eating, it was raining a lot when I went out. At that time, I regretted that I should have stayed for a while after eating, and I didn’t take a few more photos of the environment. The price of the dishes is a bit high for Thailand, nearly 100 yuan Chinese yuan for one person, but the taste and environment are also worthy of the price. There is an aunt inside, and the service is very meticulous. During the meal, there was a girl by the window by the side who propped up her mobile phone on a small tripod and kept recording videos, presumably she was a domestic self-media blogger.

Well... I've been in Thailand over 2 months now and this was my best meal so far. I had Nam Prik Ong (tomato, pork and chilli dip) and Gaeng Hung Lay (pork and ginger curry) and both dishes were phonomonal. I've eaten both dishes before and also cooked them myself at home but these were the best I've ever had. Will definitely be back while I'm visiting Chiang Mai and recommended this restaurant to anyone. Delicious !!!

The Hong Tauw Inn is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Chiang Mai. Red curry with pork was flavorful and pomelo salad was so good. Narm Phrig Koog Pow was my favorite menu. Highly recommended!

Very nice place, perfect for tasting the North - Thai style food. Really broad menu with all the classics and local options, and many variants of sets for 2 or more people - all that with very reasonable prices. Atmosphere inside was also really nice, as mentioned

A hidden gem. Everything from the food, the price, the menu selection, the atmosphere and the service were incredible. Lon tau jiaw, a northern bean-paste dish with minced pork, was my favourite. The menu is large and there's a lot of different choices. Everything we ordered was above average. There wasn't any queue when we arrived and it looks quite unassuming from the outside. I find the numerous clocks and the occasional chimes to be a unique touch which differentiates it from a regular cafe/restaurant.

Very lively family owned restaurant. We ordered papaya salad, tom yum kung, fried tilapia and sweet vegetable. The tom yum kung was rich and had good amount of ingredients in it. They have already filtered out the lemongrass and leaves from the soup which is nice. The papaya salad was scrumptious and have just enough spice in it. I loved the fish and the sauce. It was not oily and very crispy. Nicely done. Would return

Came here twice. My favorites are papaya salad, chicken fried rice and fried prawns. The papaya salad is bursting with flavors, sour, sweet, spicy, just perfect. The prawns are very fresh, crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. The pictures below are from my 2nd visit, mango salad, fried prawns and crab fried rice.

Amazing, was told to go here when Ginger Farm line was too long. Had to get the Chiang Mai dishes, khao soi chicken and Haeng Lay pork

Very beautiful and nice place. The staff is amazing and the venue is extremely charming. They have a really impressive grandfather clock right at the entrance. Honestly it looks like a Studio Ghibli interior, however the food we had was safe to say underwhelming. We ordered whole chicken but I wouldn’t recommend it to you. The chicken is deep fried and extremely dry and crunchy. Hard to eat and it feels like there is not a lot of meat left.

Came back after a few years and the food is still very good as with the previous time. A great place to have authentic Thai dishes at very good prices. The very little small shrimps as the menu calls it is nicely and thinly fried - crunchy yumminess!

One of my favorite restaurants in Chiang Mai - a definite must visit when I visit again. We were so lucky to stay near this restaurant and chance upon it. I love the homey cosy vibe and the food is so amazing. We loved every single dish and the ginger juice is out of this world. The ginger juice is amazing and great for sore throat and stomach unrest. The fried rice was consistently good - pork, crab and the best version is salted fish. The salted egg morning glory is very delicious too. We also really enjoyed the Tom Ka coconut soup - very umami even though we asked for no spice. The fried fish, fried tofu were also really delicious. A must get is the unassuming dessert - glutinous rice balls and ginger soup. The roasted black sesame filling is so good and the glutinous rice skin was so light and chewy. All went perfectly with the tasty ginger soup. A great gem of the Nimman area. Very reasonably priced and the food is amazing!

I ordered a full fried chicken and a watermelon drink. The chicken was very dry and it didn't have a lot of meat on the bone. I had a hard time eating it since it wasn't a lot to work with. The watermelon juice was okay, but just okay.

Authentic Thai food with really great true delicious taste. Operated by a friendly family and the place has a traditional classic dining atmosphere. There're elderly gentleman and lady taking care of the customers. As close to a home food as you can get. For me, the best place for Khao Soi, among others. Been coming here every time I come to Chiang Mai. The place is quiet nowadays since the Covid times began, but I'm glad they are still catering to those who know this place, mostly due to their family-owned restaurant and own building, I suppose. The food tastes remain the same since I first started coming here.

Fantastic old school Thai restaurant with real character and old fashioned prices. Anyone with an interest in the horological history of Asia should also go in and soak up the atmosphere.

We loved this place, we ate there 3 times, each time we had 4 different dishes, all delicious and full of flavor. The restaurant is like a little house, filled with antiques. Inexpensive!

  • 5/5 Daniel K. 1 year ago on Google
Rustic decor and delicious food. Once you set foot into the restaurant it takes you back to the 1930s. Everything looks as though it stood still in time if you like the antique feel this is the place to be. Food was delicious and simply presented, it actually looks like your grandmothers cooking and presentation. Everything was cooked to perfection and it is extremely flavourful. Something to take noted if you are in a rush you may want yo make time because each dish will take some time to be served.

Absolutely delicious!!! Best feed i have had in Thailand. Set 2 (for two people) was brilliant and we had two other dishes to make it for three, but actually one more would have been sufficient. So impressed we have been back since and planning on lunch tomorrow too! Well worth a visit. The fermented pork dish was bloody amazing and the red curry the best I have ever eaten.

Really outstanding meal here. Even more so for the price. They specialize in Northern Thai food, so that’s what we tried to order. The Naem and Kanom Jeen were excellent! Every dish was amazing and we got out for under 500 THB including a beer.

The first time weate here was 15 years ago when a friend Ade brought us here when our daughter attended boarding school in Chiang Mai. Today we tried many items from the menu and found everything to be absokutely delicious. All ingredients were fresh and savoury. The Ka Nom Pang Nah Moo with its dip made my taste buds do back flips, the Tao Hu Thod with sweet n sour sauce kept my taste buds in heaven. Next was the Yum Som O pomollo salad with kanom jeen noodles. The sauce accented the flavor and allowed you to taste everything fully. Last was our khao Soi Gai with a broth so tastey i wanted to lick the bowl. Closing with our favorite desert Bualoy Nga Dum Namking.

When I walk around nearby at the dinner time, I have a good feeling with this place, so I walk in to order this green curry shrimp and coconut. Its a local taste. Its spicy, but really good! And the staff are nice, very nice price.

Good tasting food! Each dish served in small portion so you can order many variety of menu. We ordered 11 dishes and 3 large beer for about 1,700 baht. The service us very friendly but can be a bit slow.

First of all, for the food quality and dining environment vs price, definitely worth a 5 stars. Tastewise, I will give it a 7.7 out 10 of my own scale (based on the foods I ordered). Again, I think it serves quality local Tai food.

Very nice and delicious northern style home cooked foods. Light, refreshing. The lady was very sweet and nice and attentive, not it seems like family run. Seems to get a lot of local traffic as well.
