Really interesting stop for information about Lanna life in the region. Easy to follow route round the museum, signs in Thai and English.

Love this museum ... 1. Informative about Lanna people. 2. The displays are well organised and rich in categories, from Lanna people daily life to sculpture and musical instruments. I found that the mural painting attract me the most. 3. We were lucky as we met students intern at the museum and offer us a tour (some of them are international students and they can speak English or Chinese). 4. And I guess the best part is that they have good quality (in term of translating) and quantity of English & Chinese (plus Thai) explanation plates make the visit worthwhile. Additional tips: You may be interested to find out the history of the building (the court house setting is still there in one of the room).

To add to your knowledge of Lanna Culture, you need to visit here.It is not a large museum, and the information is in Thai and English. Some interesting exhibits, 90 baht for farang, but well worth it. Look out for the information on Lanna courting practises, certainly something from a bygone age.

Stopped by today. Price is 90 baht for foreigners, 20 baht for Thai. Fun way to spend 30-45 minutes when the sun is too hot.

Nicely done exhibition that takes you 40-45 minutes to see and read it all. The descriptions in English are good, but the collection is rather small.

One of the better place to learn about Lanna culture and the past. Entrance fee cost about 100 baht, which is like x5 times the price of the locals but it is what it is. Lots of valuable exhibits with English and Chinese written description. Worth visiting of there isn't other better things to do.

Not quite as interesting or as big as the Cultural Center across the street by the 3 Kings Monument, but still a nice historical look at Lanna culture in Thailand. The Cultural Center building is a bit nicer too. I believe, if you are really ambitious, that you can get a pass and visit both in the same day at a discounted rate.

Very nice location and quite an interesting concept, but it turned out to be quite boring and monotone. Compared to amazing concept museum like Hall of Opium which costs like twice the ticket price but offers 10 times the value, this kind of felt like a waste of money and time. Or maybe I am not into boring museum in general 🤷‍♀️

Not interesting. Would have liked more historical and geographical information about the Lanna people, the development of this region, and how people actually lived here. Now most of the info was about Buddhism in general. Also the entrance fee of 90 TB for foreigners is quite high. Not enough value for your money.

Date visited: 10 June 2023 Entry fee is about 100 baht. Cash only. The museum offers an interesting introduction to Lanna culture, art and history and will help you better appreciate the art and architecture of Chiang Mai and its region. The exhibits are very well presented with interesting objects (textiles in particular were my favourite) and clear and concise information both in Thai and English. This is a far more interesting and nicer museum than the neighbouring Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre. If you are in the area, I recommend making a visit. You’ll be pleasantly surprised and it will be a nice moment away from the heat!

(Translated by Google) Small museum that illustrates the life of northern Thailand, especially religious culture. I do not recommend visiting if you are passing through Chiang Mai, because although it is very small, it is interesting but it takes a long time to understand and read certain things. After all, by going around temples one learns many things. Small but really interesting museum to get to know something about the Lanna cultural life and Traditions. You learn some details which can be re-found in the many Wats of the province Chiang Mai. The ticket costs 90 Baht per person and the visit takes about an hour or less. You can also buy a Ticket including two more Museums about Lanna architecture and history of the city for 180 Baht - so you get one entrance few for free. We decided to go just with the single ticket.

I was not wowed by this museum. Compared to other folk museums I’ve been too which were infinitely better. This one lacked historical context. It basically was displaying an item and what the item was made of and simply that it was significant but not why or how it came to be that way. This history and context was really missing. Also I found it hard to identify what items were being talked about as sometimes a plaque on the wall was beside a different unrelated item and as there were no photos and the items were often not numbered I had to really try and figure out what was being spoken about. It detracted from the experience. Over all it needs clearer signage and numbering with more photos and much more historical context. I will try the other museum next because it covers much of the same, perhaps in a more thorough manner.

If all the museums I've seen this is not on the list of impressive. It's not bad, but it's not good either. But it's importance is of understanding since it explains the story of the north of Thailand and do shows some amazing old things. But don't set your expectations to the crazy side, since it's very calm and quickly done (expect 2 hours at most)

Nice place to spend an hour or a bit less with information on Lanna culture. For some partes I had wished for more precise information, such as dates, background and meaning of exposition pieces, such as many wooden figures of a certain deity, pottery or fabrics. Some nice photographs too of previous days. 90 baht for foreigners and only open until 4.30pm which is quite early to close. Bathroom is outside around the corner. Taking photos is allowed, but not videos.

Set inside the Thai-colonial-style former Provincial Court, dating from 1935, this imaginative museum recreates Lanna village life in a series of life-sized dioramas that explain everything from lai-krahm stencilling and fon lep to the intricate symbolism of different elements of Lanna-style monasteries

Sorry, I cannot recommend this museum. Some aspects of folklife of the Lanna is underrepresented especially like art, music, ceremonies and working. Too much focus on religion.
