It was not surprising this museum was not crowded as it feels a bit hidden away in a blue 2-story wooden house behind the large folk museum, directly across the street from 3 Kings monument plaza. Second floor had an exhibition on historical photos of Chiang Mai. The collection was arranged somewhat by theme, with popular life photos which showed fashion and activities when a dance club or music venue opened in the city. Other rooms shared photos of war time, famous people visiting Chiang Mai, and festival celebrations. I really liked this being in an old house. Take off your shoes outside and leave them at ground level at the base of the stairs. To be able to wander in socks feet across the old wooden floor boards, enjoying black and white moments captured in film was nice. The pictures are old and the indoor / outdoor nature of the house probably doesn't aid preservation, but it's a great way to see how Chiang Mai has changed.

Use the main entrance from main road. Was there as Google map took me off yesterday to back gate. Worthy trip to watch past memories. Office is on ground level. Gallery upstairs.

Located in a beautiful building behind a museum in the center of the Old City, the Chiang Mai House of Photography was an interesting place to visit. When I went, there was a fascinating exhibit about Vietnamese fisherfolk. In addition to the photos, there are a couple of comfortable places to sit. No shoes allowed.

Photographic exhibitions regularly change here, and many of them are very good. Always worth popping in to see what's on. Completely free. the Chiang Mai House of Photography occupies 2 floors. Very easy to find opposite the Three Kings monument. I've just returned from another visit a year later. Featured today was a comprehensive collection of pictures taken approximately a century ago in Chiang Mai. They showed the profound changes compared with today. Sadly, there were only Thai captions, and no English.

The day I went they had an exhibition of historical art, which was OK. Unfortunately the ‘House of Photography’ didn’t actually have a single photo on show!

We saw a fantastic exhibition by Charnpichit Pongtongsumran, entitled 'The Mark of Culture'. The lower floor also has a wonderful collection of catalogues as well as student work for sale. Worth a visit!

This rather small gallery showcases local artists. Not that interesting, but since it's next to the Lanna folk museum, you might as well see it.

Small but very atmospheric place. The Black and white photo’s from the 1920’s were interesting to see.

This is a nice old Thai wooden house tucked away behind the Museum but worth a visit to see the house itself but also the photo exhibitions it contains.
