Excellent hotel staffed by wonderful service minded people. I was booked at Centara hotel but arrived in Chiang Mai at 7am and unable to check in early due to a lack of rooms. I called Opium and they had a room available and let me check in right away. I was planning on only staying until my room at Centara was available, but the room was so comfortable that I cancelled my other hotel reservation to stay here. The hotel has a relaxing ambiance with the other guests being pleasant and respectful to one another. They also have a tasty breakfast for only 100 baht and the staff were very helpful in assisting with my 90 day report at Chiang Mai immigration. I would highly recommend this hotel and plan on coming back the next time I am in Chiang Mai.

Very bad experience! The hotel and its rooms do not look like in the photos at all. Worst bathroom ever. It smelled like mold in the whole room and when I started the AC black dust and dead flies fell down. The bedsheet was brown!!!!and was covered with pee spots. I left earlier because this was just too much! Also quite a walk to the Old City. It's ok if one uses Grab, then it's only a 10min drive. I personally think the owner does not care about the maintenance of the hotel, just interested in getting the money in. Not a good way of keeping up a good business. The only star I give is for the awesome staff. Such lovely and friendly people.Super helpful with everything. Thanks for that!

Just stayed at this hotel and although th staff were extremely kind and helpful, the hotel itself is quite dated. We had a leak in our bathroom which soaked the entire floor every time we used the showers. The walls are also extremely thin and quite a bit of echoing from the hallways disrupted our sleep. The amenities are old, the rooms are spacious, overall, not a bad experience however it does look nicer in the photos…

Breakfast was delicious, you can choose from the menu and receptionist will ask whAt time do you wan have a breakfast, and next day the breakfast will be ready in the same time, receptionist very friendly and helpfull, the room was clean but I didn’t know why suddenly have a lot of small ants without reason But overall all good except ants 😬😬😬

-Very spacious and clean room. -They provide all the basic amenities to cover one's need for this price range, even Microwave oven in each room and extra towels at the pool. -There are also lots of trees which make the atmosphere very calm and relaxing. -Many restaurants, pharmacy and a 7-11 nearby (also a famous Shabu restaurant called "Super Soup" which is crowded most of the time). -The hotel is a few minutes ride from the old town but you can take a Grab taxi or Grab bike anytime. -Staff are super helpful. -In short, I really enjoy my stay there!

Nice hotel with friendly staff, clean rooms, proper sanitary facilities and a small pool in a jungle like ambiente. All in all excellent value for money. It's located in a very lively quarter with a lot of restaurants, bars and street food. The best way to get to the city center is to order a motorbike cab.

This hotel is so much more than 3 stars! We came with idea to visit one time in life Chiang Mai but because our stay was so AMAZING we want to come back! Receptionists are excellent, helpful and super kind!!! We met also one of them on the local market and he just helped us order food… I mean, I could not say enough thanks to this place! We will be definitely back in The Opium <3

We were wondering about the great deal we got (paid 30€/night, stayed a week and really liked it. It's definitely worth more). Big rooms, nice balcony, good gym and refreshing pool all in a walking distance to market, restaurants and cafes. Good service too. The furniture was stylish, even though a bit old. The only real minus point for me was the WiFi that goes on and off and requires new login every day.

Room was clean and large, the water heater is just fine hardly to adjust the hot water, and there is no toothbrush set provided. There is safety box provided, car and bike rental and van transport to airport also provided subject to hotel availability. Quite worth for stay

    · The room is SPACIOUS with big bright windows, clean and has everything you need. the bed is pretty big too. Bathroom also big, has hot water and very bright. The hotel has nice garden with a lot of plants. The pool is small but nice 15mins to walk to old town Không thích · The wooden bed makes a bit of noise every time you move Wifi is a bit unstable The floor is clean but slippery, my friend fell from it.

One of the absolute best budget-friendly places we’ve ever stayed. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, the AC is cold and the WIFI is fast. We stayed for a week in room 107 which walks directly out to the pool. Our room was quiet even with the hotel being full. The breakfast menu never disappointed us. We enjoyed omelettes, fried rice, French toast and other items. The staff was engaged and helpful. There are several restaurants near the hotel and even two laundromats. We will definitely be back!

Really nice hotel, breakfast options are very good and delicious. Staff was very helpful, we locked our safe and five minutes later it was fixed! The location is perfect as well, not far from the old town. Can recommend totally!

Our stay at Opium was nothing short of enchanting. The rooms were beautifully designed, offering a perfect blend of comfort and style. The staff provided an exceptional service with a genuine smile. If you're looking for a truly memorable and affordable stay in Chiang Mai, this is the place to be. Highly recommended 👌💯

Enjoyed my stay - 3 nights. Super welcoming staff, always kind and helpful. Booked my shuttle to pai through them - easy:) Rooftop is great for chilling. Rooms are nice, bed is cozy and it’s very spacious.

Awesome experience at the hotel! Customer service was friendly and answered all questions. Loved the location, ease in walking to 711 and just 2 blockers away from a great large market with everything! Super quiet, 20 min walk to old city. Large spacious room - definitely my #1 recommendation for places to stay in Chiang Mai. Will be returning for future visits!

Great service and great staff ready to help. 10mins away in taxi from the busy Chiang Mai Old town. Outdated hardware in desperate need for a renovation.

A bit old, need refreshments. Good amenities. Nice pool. Big and clean family room. Staff is incredibly nice and friendly. Love the area.

Its rooms are very large and spacious, and having a microwave is also an advantage. The people at the reception work in shifts to respond to your every need 24 hours a day-Massage service can even be provided in the room-A smoking sensitive hotel: there is a small smoking area next to the fish pond just next to the dining area. In general, it is a successful hotel in terms of price / performance.

I really liked this place, the staff were friendly and spoke good English. I preferred staying here than in the old town. The area is quiet and it’s mostly Thai people around so the prices are lower and the food better than in the old town. Walking distance from a local night market that’s definitely worth going to. The pool area is also lovely with all the trees and fish in clay pots around it.

Very friendly staff, were very helpful when my partner was sick. Great pool and gym facilities.

  • 4/5 Fabian H. 1 year ago on Google
Nice facility, the pool is sweet, but has no sun most of the day. We had ants in our room and a faint smell, hence no 5 stars. There is a gym but it’s hardly worth to mention. Has a treadmill, dumbbells and a bench press. There is cheap gym nearby that I would rather recommend (go gym, 60 baht day pass) Location is so so, not very central but a good neighborhood anyway.

Good value peaceful and quiet hotel in a great location not far from Nimman, Chiang Mai Uni and the old town centre. Large and very clean room with a really really comfortable bed! Microwave oven and large fridge in the room were super handy. Staff were all friendly, helpful, efficient and spoke good English. The only small issue I had was the Wifi was spotty at times and slow in the evenings and at night. But otherwise I had a very comfortable stay! Highly recommend and will definitely stay again. Big thank you to the staff at The Opium CM!

We spent six nights here and enjoyed our stay. You could see from the rooms that they're old but still it was quite clean. At breakfast you had to choose your dish from maybe six different options and besides that you could have fruits as much as you like. The service was really friendly and the people on the reception spoke fluent English. The hotel is maybe some distance away from markets and malls etc, but you can find food and seven-eleven with two minutes walking. And it's easy and fast to get a Grab there that was our main way to get around to anywhere.

There is no Opium here! Thank God!😜 Spacious rooms, nice pool area with a small gym....restaurant is open in the AM. A little musky but nice soft bed. Good reception staff and maid.

Downright disappointing! The room was in a terrible state: the freezer in the fridge was impossible to close because of ice being everywhere; the water in the shower wouldn’t drain properly, hence flood the bathroom, which was dirty and rusty, the furniture was old, not maintained, and dirty as well; a bulb in the central lamp was burned out. Last and in this case most importantly: The bedding stank like a wet cloth. As a matter of fact, we are not too picky and really try to view things positively, but in “The Opium” simply everything was wrong. We stayed one out of planned 14 nights, simply because we were too tired to leave, and even this was too much!

Old hotel which will need some renovation. Mattress was good, room big enough but could have been cleaner. Prices are correct for backpackers who don't know the town.

Best value for the price Wonderful service, they helped me a lot and did their best about finding different things or services i needed, with a lot of patience and good will. Really professional. Big, clean rooms Nice pool, gym, and place Interesting location, 2km or so from the historical and touristic center, but much more like immersive about seeing Thailand and Thaï life.

Very good for it’s price. Excellent staff, ready to help with anything. We left a powerbank and they immediately shipped it to our next location with no issues! The hotel was clean, breakfast was good. The gym is not the best, it’s tiny and awkwardly located in the middle of the hallway so I didn’t feel comfortable using it. Also the location is not right in the center of the town, you have to take a cab.

Where this lovely little hotel really knocks it out of the park is their services. So friendly and helpful with everything from arranging taxis to tours and laundry. Made it felt like a home away from home. The only criticism is the bed was super uncomfortable but it’s been that way throughout Thailand so maybe that’s the standard. It’s a little outside the action but grab transportation is super cheap and easy to use. Highly recommend this gem!

Wonderful place to stay. We have been here for a month and everything was perfect. They take care about everything we needed, and they even anticipated our wishes. Very familial spirit ! Beautiful garden and rooftop. Thank you for everything. Morgane & Victor

Awesome place! I stayed a few weeks, left, and then came back to stay another week! The staff is friendly and very helpful, rooms are clean and comfortable, good wifi, pool, rooftop deck, good location around lots of restaurants. They really care about their hotel, and their guests, so if you're looking for a place to stay in Chaing Mai, either for a weekend or a long term stay, I recommend The Opium!

Nice hotel, great staff, comfortable bed, quiet, safe. It's near my favorite open air Tanin market, too. Recommended.
