My go-to for lunch. Of course, the legendary Bun Cha, perfectly grilled pork pattie, the fresh veggie, the perfect seasoned soup. I add more garlic, chili and vinegar for more kick. The place is clean and cozy, the jasmine tea is free/refillable. Don’t forget to end your meal with the matcha pudding. It’s the best I’ve tried. And very worth the price.

Less is more is how i would describe this place. Since it only serve 1 dish "Bun Cha" (and alternative vegetarian version). You only need to pick the size. "Small" which is regular or "Large" which is 30% more of everything. We ordered small which was just right for us. The sauce has a sweet forward taste follow by salty and slightly sour taste. Eating is simple. 1. Adding galic, chilly and herbs to freshen it up 2. Dip your rice noodle in and enjoy The pork was well marinaded and grilled on high heat to maximize the smoky flavor while still moist on the inside, which really make this dish a winner. Ice Vietnamese coffee & Cream Custard were also good. The prices are very reasonable espacially with good service and free tea / water. Nice vocal jazz and good atmosthere to accompany your food. The only problem is getting a seat can be a challenge so booking ahead is recommended. Also only open for lunch.

This restaurant is small but mighty. Beautiful facade on the outside and leads into a comfortable restaurant that played lovely French music. The menu is simple which makes ordering easier for people like me who get choice paralysis. The large Bun Cha was indeed large - next time I’d go for a small. All of the flavours in this one dish were exceptional. The meat was tender and tasty and you can season your dish to your own liking. Would definitely recommend a stop here if you like Vietnamese food but get in early as it’s a popular spot that often sells out not long after opening.

Insane. I’ve been to Vietnam twice: this place does Bon Cha right. Order the large portion and an ice coffee and get there when they open at 12. They often sell out before 12:30. So delicious, whoa 😎

Fantastic, damn good bun cha. The only thing setting it apart from 100% authentic is maybe the limited amount of veggies (they come in heaps in street side Hanoi). The coffee was strong and sweet, just like in Vietnam.

Very unique vietnamese restaurant. Only 2 menu to choose. Friendly staff. Vietnamese coffee also available, hot coffee was very aromatic. Cold coffee was not really authentic vietnamese style because put too much cream in the coffee.

Wonderful lunch here!!, i started with tasty BUN CHA (don’t forget to put some garlics and Chilies to provide more dimension) then follow by Matcha pudding which is lovely (normally i don’t like pudding) but here is quite impressive dessert to me.

***updated October 31, 2023*** A bit sad when the restaurant not taking the cleanliness to its best. Walking into the restaurant, the floor was full of soil and dirt. One of the reason I keep coming here is because the cleanliness of the place and the food preparation together with the flavour of the food.. it reflects the price that I'm willing to pay. To see it in this condition really put me off. ( Maybe I did expect a bit much). *********** Just amazing. This is what I need. The place sells only 2 dishes and desserts. And they do them so well. Fresh and real flavour without seasoning anything. The best way to appreciate the decent food. Simple is the best!

Went there when almost the closed time so only another one table beside me. If you are looking for something light and refreshing during the day. This is the best choice. I ordered a small size, which is perfect for me

Our group of four went to David’s Kitchen for dinner on Christmas Day. We ate from a five course set menu (offering three choices of main dish) and all of the food was very good. Although a little more expensive than local competition, it really felt good value. They place an emphasis on the quality of their ingredients - importing the best meats from around the world, which really came through. It’s a very popular restaurant; from speaking with the owner after the meal, they haven’t had an empty table for a considerable time. Therefore if you want to visit, make sure you book well in advance!

It is a clean and delicious Vietnamese restaurant. There are two menus, Bun Cha and Vegetarian dishes. The meat and sauce are really delicious and the vegetables are fresh. After I eat, I have a really, really delicious coconut coffee smoothie and pudding. You can have ice tea for free and the staff is very kind.

A traditional Vietnamese food located right in the Chiang Mai city. I recommend you try Bun Cha ( i ordered large) there is vegetarian options for Bun Cha too. I love the soup and the meat is so soft. The vegetables are fresh. Don’t forget to try pudding it is soooo delicious! They also have cofee with condensed milk imported from Vietnam. Moreover, the restaurant is super clean and they also provide a parking lot behind the restaurant. (4-5 cars)

Fabulous restaurant always a treat to visit, ultra clean n fresh! My honey ordered the extra toppings for the very first time best ever decision in my life. The dried onions and others added to the already rich flavor; additionally, I secretly added more chili peppers too for that Vietnamese kick. A+++

Every time I go to Chiang Mai I eat here at least once. The service is great and the food is even better. David is always there to greet you and make sure everything is to your liking. The pumpkin soup is the best I've ever had and I can honestly say I've never been disappointed with any of the dishes I've tried.

We came here because it was one of TripAdvisor's top rated restaurants. I don't disagree that David's is one of or possibly the best French fine dining in Thailand, but then again you wouldn't go to Argentina for Chinese food. Having said that, we ordered a la carte. For appetizers, our group of 3 had the seared scallops, the pumpkin soup, and the escargots. All were delicious - the scallops were tender on a bed of taro mash, the pumpkin soup decadent, and the escargots sat on steamed veggies. I'd recommend the soup. For our mains we chose the braised beef, braised lamb, and fettuccine lobster Alfredo. The braised meats were okay but really nothing special (we are from Toronto and Boston). The lobster Alfredo was good but again not worth the premium. We would not recommend any of the mains that we tried given they're really nothing too special. The food was above average, but given the culinary depth of Thai cuisine there's really no reason to be eating French fine dining I'm Chiang Mai. If you're really craving it then go ahead, but you'd be better off spending your money (and time in Chiang Mai) elsewhere. We spent 5,200 baht between 3 people and everyone agreed that it was not worth spending that much on the food here. Yes, I see lots of comments of the owner David walking around greeting guests and he did to us - but we really didn't care for the run-through list of questions he probably asked at each table.

Great place for delicious vietnamese flavor. Cozy, good service. Nice size portion for the price. The pork comes in patties, and some very thin slices of meat. Appreciate the viet coffee filter. It's not viet coffee without the filter on your cup. Some extra hot water on the side, and a bigger cup, would be better. Unlimited tea is a nice touch.

I have never been to Vietnam but have eaten pho noodles all the time. So my interest piqued and decided to try their noodle and authentic Vietnamese coffee. They only server like 2 dishes plus coffee and a dessert. There is no beef pho noodle. The decoration is definitely very instagram friendly especially among so many other unassuming local restaurants. I like the roasted pork with noodles, even though it was a bit sweet for my taste. As for the coffee, it looked so promising but tasted so disappointing. I have had much better Vietnamese coffee in US. The price is a bit higher than local food, but I guess you have to pay for the clean decor and ambience. I may never go back again, cause I have had the experience now. It is more of a tourist one time experience kinda restaurant than a I want to frequent often restaurants. As a matter of facts, all the customers were foreign tourists when I was there. But if you like sweet Vietnamese food a lot, you may want to go back. As for the service, I think they are very good and honest. I accidentally gave them one more 100 note , which the staff gave me back right away.

A great find for a very authentic bun cha. The menu is simple and they mainly serve 2 types of bun cha:small portion and large portion and 3 types of dessert. The pork is grilled to just the right texture and goes very well with the noodles. The dipping sauce is full of favour too. The caramel cream is also to die for and lucky the size is not big and makes me less guilty. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a light and authentic Vietnamese lunch

Awesome restaurant, elegant but family friendly, lovely menu, french and modern cuisine. Service is outstanding, the maitre is friendly and very knowledgeable. We have been here a couple of times and never been disappointed. I'm not giving 5 stars because the set menu have not changed in the times I have visited and I would love to try new things. Excellent and highly recommend. We ordered delivery concerned that if we waited to walk over it would be sold out. We ordered the large portion for 2 people. It was perfect size. We received noodles, lettuce, herbs, pickles and pork. We also received a container of dipping sauce that was still warm. The lettuce pieces were a bit small to wrap however everything was very, very fresh and well flavored. We received our order in a nice paper bag, which could be reused, with the items packaged separately inside. The sauce was in a cardboard container with a holder so it wouldn't spill. You could tell that thought went into this and we really enjoyed our meal.

Delicious food and great overall experience! It’s a cute cafe with some indoor seating. One basic menu item you can have served with a few different options. The price is right and everything about this place is great! The meat is some of the tastiest I’ve had in chiang mai! Make sure you get here early enough because it does sell out quickly 😃

Top notch secret place for chilling. Taste: 8.5 Atmosphere: 8 Services: 8 Delicious meal (available 2 dishes which they crafted so well) and delicious Vietnam coffee. The restaurant itself cute and relaxing. However the shop is quite small. They got plenty available parking lots too. I would recommended this restaurant.

Great little spot to get an afternoon lunch! Only 4-5 tables, and popular amongst foreigners, so make a reservation in advance! We came at 2pm on a Sunday and there 4 seats available but one was reserved. The food is great! Limited menu (bun cha and bun chay (vegetarian version)) and some coffees and dessert. Everything they make is delicious though, and tastes authentic and homemade. The menu and vibe are awesome. Menu is in English with lots of instructions and details. Music makes you feel like you’re in a French coffee shop in a quiet city. Definitely come here! I’m so hyper from the authentic Vietnamese coffee that I just typed this all in 7 seconds flat!

What a pleasant surprise! Having lived in Vietnam, I can say the taste here equals to all but the highest tier counterparts. You can tell that the owner is very meticulous as she only open for 3 hours or until she runs out of the batches which she cooks fresh and in limited number each day. As a bonus the Vietnamese coffee is of the higher quality bean type. Highly recommended !!! Tip: a good idea to call and reserve in advance. Today, they ran out in 52 minutes

They only serve one dish, bun cha, but it excellent. I always have the small bun cha which is plenty for one person. I also recommend their flan and Vietnamese coffee. Beer is available as well. Cold tea or water are complimentary.

Bun cha, custards and coffee are all delicious. Bun cha might be the best I had anywhere. Restaurant is clean & cute. Service is great. If you like Vietnamese food, this place is a must-do. Only open for lunch right now, but hopefully they will open for dinner in the future.

  • 5/5 T C. 3 years ago on Google
This is a near-perfect dining experience. The bun cha is by far the best I’ve ever had and I’m including the bun cha we had in Hanoi. The meat is soft and tasty; the broth is just overflowing with flavor and the noodles and veggies are so fresh and bright. And at 90 baht it is such a good price too! The menu has like 4 or 5 items on it and they’re only open from 11-2 each day but they normally close early when they’ve run out of food. And that’s the key to this place’s success: they do a few things and they do them very well. It’s just so good, y’all. I can’t wait to come back and try the few other menus items. I wouldn’t be surprised if this restaurant landed a Michelin star at some point.

  • 5/5 Catherine C. 3 years ago on Google
I love Bun Cha and of course I had to come to this place. Was pleased to find a low carb (no vegetable) version. It came with a mountain of vegetables and herbs. The grilled pork was in the form of slices and minced patties. Both were well grilled, with a great smoky flavour. These were perfectly complimented by the sweet and sour dipping sauce. The Bun Cha here is actually tastier than what we had in Hanoi, as the ones we managed to find were very local - low in price and therefore, with lower quality pork (too much fats and poor texture). We also ordered the cream custard and Vietnamese drip coffee. The vanilla cream custard was great. Not so sure about the matcha flavoured version. My husband loved the coffee - so sweet and so strong. Other than what we have ordered, this place offers as well beers, ciders and a noodle salad called Bun Chay. It is a vegetarian dish with tofu. If you love Vietnamese food, this place is highly recommended.

their bun cha took me right back to Hanoi; it was amazing, and every component was delicious, especially the grilled pork! the new shop is cozy and welcoming; the wood finish is gorgeous. the patio is going to be fabulous when it’s finished! The creme caramel is the best i’ve ever had, and i can never get enough; so creamy and luxurious, the balance between the bitter, strong coffee, and the rich, sweet vanilla creme is perfect. these guys have definitely put their heart and soul into this food and it shows.

  • 5/5 Natalie B. 3 years ago on Google

Great little cafe in Santitham. They sell the best bun cha I have had outside of Hanoi. They only sell bun cha, kem flan and vietnamese coffee right now but the lovely owner says they are working on their next dish. They want to focus on North Vietnamese food, so let’s hope it’s pho bac! I will try the custard next time when I’m less full - the people at the next table were eating it and they were making all the right noises.

David’s Kitchen was an amazing experience. They went the extra mile to make the evening special for my fiancé and I. David even came to the table personally and was very warm and welcoming. I still think about the Fettuccine dish I ordered, one of my all time favorite meals I’ve ever had. Thank you for the amazing experience. (I am writing this review on behalf of our experience last year) Highly recommend!

Supreme choice in Chiang Mai. Food is scrumptious, servers are all very helpful and the price for a set liked this is spectacular. The pumpkin soup is a must try! The dinner set is in fact quite stomach filling instead. The duck breast was thick and tender, well seasoned. The risotto was creamy and rich. Love the ambience here. Really worth the reservation.

The most joyful meal in Chiangmai. It is highly recommended if you feel like French rather than local northern food. Scallops are pretty huge but the price is about half of what it would cost in Bangkok. Soup has a bit of strong taste. Staff are very attentive and entertaining.

The most amazing place to have dinner... This goes beyond just Chiang Mai. This might be one of my favorite places to eat in Thailand. The food is amazing and the staffs are awesome and very helpful. Location is a bit out of town center, but not too far. You just have to try.. you won't be disappointed.

I visit after 2 years, still the best dinning experience, good service, nice food. but, when i request a Chinese menu i found it is different Vs English menu... be aware. In the dinner set menu, Duck is very good, beef is just soso, just my comment.

A friend of mine is currently in Chiang Mai and I recommend this restaurant to him which made me wonder if a two years old review would have value. Here it goes just in case. David's Kitchen is located in a wonderfully stylish and modern building. David himself is a friendly host and provides a team of attractive and beautifully dressed waiting staff. I was alone on my visit and everybody from the boss on was attentive and welcoming. It's too long ago for me to remember my starter but I will never forget my main course. Beef cheeks with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Absolutely delicious

This is a MUST VISIT in Chiang Mai. With a Michelin star rating, we were excited to try David's Kitchen. The meal, the drinks and the service were all outstanding. Do not pass up the opportunity to visit, but you'll want to book in advance! We missed meeting David the owner, but he went as far to send us a follow up email wishing us a happy honeymoon and thanking us for visiting his restaurant. He even remembered we were from Chattanooga, Tennessee!!! (Someone asked us and it's a pretty obscure place to remember in Thailand!)

Every single detail counts. To me that sums up this incredible restaurant, we went there for our anniversary and from the moment we park until we left we felt like we’re in a 2 Michelin star restaurant for not even 100€. David Gordon, Chef O and Khun Prom have created a sensational atmosphere and totally unique fine dining experience at David's Kitchen in Chiang Mai. The minute we arrived and were ushered from the car park to the entrance by an incredibly polite and friendly young man we knew we were in for a real treat. From the front door to the table, to the exceptional menus, the February specials, the vast array of exquisite wines, the manager, the wait staff - simply everything - was attention to minute detail. One of those foodie experiences that you remember for a lifetime. And last night was one of those dining experiences for us. Tae is a superb manager and all the staff we dealt with were impeccable. We decided to graze on a variety of starters, specials, a main and some desserts, matching as we went with Prosecco, Alberino, and David's favourite wine at the moment a 2016 Aglianico. I won't talk about stand out dishes - they all were. From the Spicy Pomelo salad with fried red schnapper, crispy shallots and toasted coconut, to the Raw salmon with spicy lime dressing and cucumber salad, the Home-made gnocchi with porcini mushroom cream and parmesan to the US pan fried scallops on a bed of purple sweet potato with white port cream drizzle - everything was lush, delicious and a work of art to behold. Then came one of the Frrench Classic dishes. The Grilled duck breast with mashed potato seasonal vegetable and orange sauce, is on the menu an understatement. The duck breast was medium rare and extra tender (skin on) and the orange sauce (reminiscent of Canard a l'orange - but with a great reduction twist) was squensational, scrum diddly yum plus. The mash......well I don't know what chef O does, but I love a good mash and we both agreed that it was the best one we have ever had. Desserts we tried were the Creme Broulee and the Tiramisu and both were absolutely outstanding lit with a candle for my birthday and happy birthday played by the virtuoso Grand pianist was a lovely and thoughtful touch - there was even a birthday card for me on the table. It is these small gestures that add to the overall experience and make you feel at home when you are a long way from it. Add to this the complementary basket of assorted bread rolls and other things and all in all what can I say besides - BRAVO.....everything we had read in reviews is true. Thankyou David, Chef O and Prom we will be back in September to try some more of this heavenly fare.

There aren’t many places in this world that can leave one with an unparalleled dining experience and allow them to use all five senses. Well, David’s Kitchen did exactly that and while some of the senses are easy to guess, with their amazing tasting food, especially the wagyu special and some other dishes that have your smell senses going wild like the pumpkin soup, I was left speechless hearing about the amazing life stories of David Gordon and how he brought his restaurateur vision to reality. A true touching encounter. Thank you
