Really nice museum, with a wonderful collection of historical items from old Norther kingdom, Chinese kingdoms, Shan and Chin kingdoms. It’s a luxurious collection that shows well the past and the culture of different ethnic groups ! Totally worth the visit ! And we had an really nice lady as a guide from the museum. She did explain everything really well. We had such a nice time and at the end, they do serve you some green tea. 100% recommended !

Better than expected. Our guide is so passionate about the collection and arts and crafts here. She gave a good tour, good knowledge. So many valuable ancient items here. No taking photos allowed inside.

Perhaps not as large or stately as any of the other museums we all know elsewhere in the world.. but this museum certainly offers a breathtaking view of the past... some artifacts dating back 3000 years, others 1250 years... and the costumes on display could even rival that of the Ziegfield follies. Expect to pay 300THB per adult..(this is a private museum and most of this goes to upkeep and maintenance) Not all artifacts may be photographed and your guide will advise when and where possible or permitted and several rooms are shoes off.. Once the formal tour is completed offer a tip as gratuity, it will be very well received. The tour ends with some green tea in the reception room. Worth the stop and if you are a devotee of the Buddhist faith, some halls also offer places of worship and relics to view. On a lighter note, some rooms are simply claustrophobic with all the items displayed as you get a glimpse of how royalty from previous kingdoms could perhaps have lived. Come and see!

This is a great museum! The owner has spent many decades collecting artifacts and is a descendent of Thai royalty. The entry comes with a free tour and the tour guides are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Much of ancient authentic Thai collectables have been destroyed during war, but this museum has a great collection you can not see anywhere else! It is also a private museum so visiting is supporting the preservation and history of Thailand. Tea was also included :)

It's got an interesting collection. Very packed, and lots to see... though the arrangement is a bit weird and reminds me a bit of Ripley museums but not as tacky. Very informative tour of about 5 chambers included in the 300 bhat fee. You will need about an hour an a half there, about 1 hour for the tour and 30min to stroll around outside and take some photos. This is to be included if you want something out of ordinary, and if you are spending a few days at Chiang Rai.

(Translated by Google) Parking on the road in front Admission fee is 200 baht. Come alone, have to go to a group to listen to the lecture. The staff are very knowledgeable, there are many old monks collecting items and costumes in the ancient Lanna Kingdom. This was one of the best museums I visited in Thailand. You will get a private tour included with your admission that is incredibly informative. I feel like I received so much more context in understanding Thai culture and history.

Expensive entry fee according to Thai standard, but worth every cent. The museum is beautiful and the collection amazing. Even better, the ticket comes with a guided tour and tea session afterwards in a beautiful room.

Treasure trove of Lanna artworks, spectacular displays, much better collections than the government run regional museum, with this price you got 1 hour guided tour and a complimentary tea. It was a very pleasant delight, worth every cent.

May you not see fancy things here, it is because you are not allowed to taking photos of their precious collections. The owner was collects many items which related to Lanna Kingdom, there are a lot fascinating things inside like buddha statue made of precious stone, royal items in the past, etc. You will have personal guide here who can speak english. After session you can taking photos in one of the room, and staff will give you delicious tea.

It is a private museum. We had a very informative tour with a really lovely lady. Can't even imagine that all these pieces were collected by one person, the owner.

We were given a guided tour by a lovely, knowledgeable lady who spoke very good English and kept us enthralled throughout. The collection is diverse and we learned a lot about the culture of Northern Thailand and the ancient Lanna kingdom. Tea is served at the end of the visit. Highly recommended

Great museum with a ton of unique artifacts and jewelry on display. It comes with a knowledgeable guided tour and nice tea after the tour. The tour takes about 45 min - 1 hour.

The most amazing museum and undoubtedly the best in North Thailand. A true gem, 5-star collection, and history. We should all be thankful for Ajarn Julasal's incredible collection, and saving these artefacts for future generations. This museum is possibly the most stunning cultural attraction you can visit in the North. 300 baht for the guided tour and history explanation is money very well invested. See it at least once!

Don't let the 300 Bhat entrance fee scare you away. The fee includes a very knowledgeable guide who can explain the history behind the displays. It is sad that this museum is not more well known due to its distance from the city centre.

This is a very nice and educational museum about the life style from ancestors in different places at different times. It's a magnificent collection and for people who are interested in local history I would say,a must to visit.

The entrance is 300 baht but it’s definitely worth it. This is a guided tour full of history and the lady is really nice and explaining well. You’ll learn a lot about culture

The museum does not have a guide currently. As there are no information otherwise, walking around the museum is a lacking experience. Better to come back when they are fully open

For a personal collection this is especially fascinating. The (mandatory) tour was lovely and in very enthusiastic English. We have lived in Thailand some time and think we got the best understanding of Thai history from this one hour tour.

This museum tells about local history till 700 years ago. Very interesting. A personal guide is included in the entry price. Lanna kingdom and 'ethnic Tai' are explained in full as well as how the Buddha statue has evolved. Totally worth it. Only a few things can be photographed, unfortunately.

  • 5/5 Monica Z. 4 years ago on Google
Impressive private museum with incredible collection of royal items. It’s like National Museum but only opened for you with your private guide. Better wear socks since marble floor is cold inside. A must see in Chiang Rai if you are THAI culture lover!

  • 4/5 CAROLINA W. 4 years ago on Google
This place has a private collection of different types of artifacts, head pieces, clothing from different ethnic groups, furniture, different sculptures of Buddha. Price: 300baht which include a guide through the 7 rooms in the property. At the end of the tour, we were served tea. No photos allowed inside the rooms except for the last room. Worth the price as you have someone to give you information of each item in the room.

This was worth the entrance fee, which includes a friendly guide providing some history about the collection and the curator who travelled the region gathering the pieces. But this is more than a museum, it’s a kinda wacky (in a good way) place where the curator lives in a house on-site. The story about the monkey bone chop sticks was priceless! No, you cannot sleep in the beds below!

  • 5/5 Hogie Raphael C. 4 years ago on Google
Very diverse collection of historical antiques. Well versed guide spoke at length through the number of different rooms in this small museum. Our tour lasted longer than I think is normal which was great and we got to talk about other Thai related culture/history. Not cheap at 300 baht compared to other tourist attractions around Chiang Rai, but well worth it.

This is a wonderful little experience! It’s 300 Baht to enter for an adult (foreigner), but this gives you a guide, and some free tea at the end! The museum is a wonderful collection and the guides are very passionate and informative about the artefacts. They’re happy to answer questions, take photos, and make jokes throughout the tour! It’s a lovely thing to do to spend some time during the day in Chiang Rai!
