Very unique temple. Originally known as the Temple of the Crouching Elephant, it has elephants at the entrance and throughout the temple, as opposed to the more typical nagas. It is over 700 years old and has many elements of Burmese Thai architecture. If you like the unusual and appreciate the crumbling statuary and the renovations all around, this is the place for you.

Unlike any other temple I have seen, it has strong local architectural influence representing the history of Chiang Rai. We visited in the night during an auspicious Buddhist day and the place was lively and colourful. No entry fee, walkable from clock tower, many places to eat around.

This small temple consists of three small halls, one of which is currently closed. Though very small and quiet, it’s worth a quick visit due to some very interesting architectural flourishes, notably the statues that blend dragons with elephants. As of 2019, there is construction work taking place on the newest hall.

Stunning beautiful temple. It is not completed, so there are no tourists at all. I liked it more than all the popular temples in Chiang Rai. Plus it's free. To the right of the entrance is an inconspicuous staircase to the roof, where the most impressive complex is

Unfortunately, the temple can only be photographed and viewed from outside at night, which is a shame. But it can also be seen during the day and is beautiful.

Very nice little temples. It’s small, two temples. No other tourists. Very peaceful and a nice place to take a break from the city congestion. No charge.

Ornate wat in the town centre, originally dates from the 1200s. Calm walkabout as it is not as heavily visited as other CR wats. Parking only on the street outside.

Peaceful little buddhist temple in Chiang Rai city centre. The temple build with mix Northern Thai and Burmese culture. Tourist can spent 10-20 min here. Very limited parking space.

👍👍 Quiet Buddhist temple located near the city centre of Chiang Rai and only a five minute walk from the City Bus Terminal. Large golden Buddha sitting at the altar, well preserved paintings on the walls, and a welcoming colourful entrance makes it looking very similar to other temples. Worth visiting,...
