After living in Chicago for 2 years, I finally got to experience the hype and institution that is Gibsons. I was super excited to try it after passing the restaurant countless times. Service was great from the get go upon our arrival for our reservation at 9 pm. We were seating in the back of the restaurant in this quaint little corner which we loved! Our server, Ryan, quickly greeted us and showed us all of the different cuts of meats. If you come late in the evening like we did, be prepared for the menu to run out of some of the options. We ordered salad, it came out super fast and was one of the best Caesar salads we’ve ever had (not pictured unfortunately). Lobster bisque was to die for- it was insanely creamy and delicious. The cracked pepper on top was such a nice touch! Our steaks came out pretty fast as well. Only complaint was 2 of the steaks were not cooked to the temperature we ordered them at. Our waiter was quick to fix this and even offered to buy us dessert to make up for it. Sides were great as well we loved the mash potatoes and asparagus. Overall 4.6 out of 5 rating. Food and service was excellent, but I really thought there was a missing “wow factor” after hearing the hype behind the restaurant for years.

Excellent dinner experience. One of the best steaks I have ever had, if not the best. The Chicago Cut steak was incredible; tender, juicy and full of flavor. One advice, if you order dessert, especially the chocolate mousse, it will be foe the entire table. It is huge. Four of us ate and there was still more than half of the cake left.

There is no better place to eat steaks in Chicago than Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse. Book a table beforehand, because the place is extremely popular & there is no chance to get a table without the reservation. The food is amazing! The personnel is very friendly & polite & has a good sense of humor as well. I highly recommend this place.

We came to this restaurant to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It is a okay place but we didn’t like the quality of the food for the price we paid. I would give 4 stars to the waitresses and manager’s behavior for being responsive and respectful of changing my wife’s steak after she didn’t like the fact they burnt her steak. Our mushroom felt like it was just opened, and warmed up out of the canned. I liked my white fish entree, but I felt our burger didn’t have much of the taste to it, plus our salad wasn’t fresh at all.

Great place. Seems to be one of the see and be seen restaurant in the area. The food did not disappoint! Steaks and pork chop were delicious. Sides were more than enough to share between 4 (we got mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and sauted mushrooms). Crab cake app was really good but the shrimp cocktail was stellar! I did think the sides were very salty so if you are sensitive to that be aware. Make reservations! We went on a Sunday night with reservations and it was packed. We were seated within minutes of our reservation so no problem for us.

Great steak restaurant!!(I tried fancy steak in Canada but so far this one is the best in North America…) I had lunch signature steak which come with salad and soup. The meat was crispy outside but tender and juicy inside. Mash potato was also great. Our server and staff were all friendly and amazing. I highly recommend this place!

I've never had a bad meal here. I prefer Ruth Chris for steaks, but downtown Chicago, I think Gibsons is the best. Their seafood soup is great. Their sides are also great.

I recently dined at the renowned Gibsons steakhouse in the Gold Coast of Chicago, and while the culinary experience was undeniably delightful, it didn't quite reach the pinnacle of perfection. My enjoyment was somewhat tempered by the noticeable lack of cleanliness in the tableware, prompting me to politefully request a replacement glass. In terms of pricing, the establishment aligns itself with other esteemed steakhouses in the city. However, it's worth noting that some of its counterparts generously include side dishes with their high-priced offerings, a gesture absent from my experience here. Overall, I departed with a sense of satisfaction, appreciating the culinary craftsmanship, but my visit was not without its hitches. As such, I would attribute a 3.75 out of 5 stars rating to this particular occasion, but would still recommend trying for yourself.

Came for the gigantic desserts. To save room we shared a ribeye and the twice baked potato. They were both good but the ribeye was a bit too cool in the center. Like there was a delay in getting it to the table. Got the turtle pie and it was gigantic. If we had two more people, there would still be left over. Staff is great. Make a reservation. This place his hopping so plan ahead.

The food and staff are wonderful! Our waiter was Carl and he was a delight. He explained everything so thoroughly. I had the 19oz New York strip. It has. A great sear and flavor. We shared the twice baked potato. No fountain pop. They have Coke, but it comes in a glass bottle. You pay for each bottle no free refills. I would definitely make reservations. Also the salad was good. Lots of ranch dressing on the salad. We went there for my mom's birthday. They knew that because they asked if we were coming in for a special occasion. They never did anything for her. No complementary dessert or birthday signing to her.

We are new to Chicago and someone highly recommended Gibson's the day we arrived. As a habitual Google reviews browser, streams of reviews corroborated the recommendation we got and we decided to visit this place for dinner. The place was packed for a weekday evening. I am glad we made a reservation on OpenTable. The concierge guided us to a nice window-side table and we started checking out the menu. To our delight, our server came up shortly and guided us through their selection of cuts. We ordered some wine, a New York strip and a Mignon and waited. The steaks arrived! Simply put, the best steaks I've had so far. The char, the fat texture, the inner warmth and consistency... they were blissful. My wife, who is not a big fan of steaks, declared that for the first time, she absolutely enjoyed one! The sides were elevating the experience a notch up. We ended our dinner with a carrot cake, the cake tasted amazing! The cream cheese icing was very nicely done. A note of the portion size: it's a quarter portion of a three layered cake!!!(we were 2 people there and had to carry 80% of the cake back home with us). Stories aside, Gibsons is an absolute delight of a place to explore very high quality steaks. I'll be back to try other things on their menu soon!

Friendly, warm and effusive —I came alone without reservations and was given a choice of bar or dining room. The bar was brimming with beautiful live piano music, tinged with conversation but not overly loud. Had the rib-eye with sides and a Cabernet. Very fairly priced for the excellent quality. I would return in a heartbeat.

Open since 1989. Gibson’s will not disappoint. The service is absolutely outstanding. The staff takes a lot of pride in where they work and what they do. We ordered a few Espresso Martinis. Very good and exactly what we were looking for. My wife and I split the Chicago Cut. I’m a Ribeye guy and this was delicious. Truly melt in your mouth and cooked to perfection. We also shared a baked potato and mashed potatoes. All very good. My wife got the East Coast oysters as an app. She said they were perfection. Carrot Cake is their signature desert. Also- my wife’s favorite. She was blown away by the presentation and taste! This is the size of a full cake BTW. I think it will slice up to 6 slices. I’ve been coming to Gibson’s for years. You always know it’s going to be a great night. This is Chicago Steakhouse dining. I am so glad we were able to fit this in on our visit back to Chicago. God I miss these restaurants. Thanks to the entire team for making our evening spectacular. See you all again real soon!!

If you want a taste of classic, old world steakhouse doing it the same way they did generations ago, this is the place for that experience. Service perfection, attention to detail. Admittedly the prices do not match the quality - the value versus cost is understandably low. But you’re here for the experience. Can you get a better steak for a better price in Chicagoland? Without a doubt. But you have to experience the classic at least once.

The location is nice, the setting is nice, the staff were really polite and the bathrooms were clean but when it comes to the FOOD… it’s a 1 star. Our mashed potatoes came out old and Luke warm with that instant mashed potatoe vibes. The creamed spinach was average and a little runny but was edible. The twice baked potatoes was a joke!!! All they did was add chives and 2 slices of cheese on top and melted it. It was very low quality. Ordered the porterhouse and it came out burnt when I ordered it medium!! They had to make it again as my potatoes with fake gravy was getting colder. My brothers NY strip steak had ZERO flavor but was cooked right. I looked around and nobody had food but us. They all had drinks and I know why now. My $260 bill was not for the food, it was for everything else I’m assuming. I can say of all the food reviews I ever did this was the most dissatisfied and disappointing time I ever had. I felt cheated. But with that price that shouldn’t be the case. I’m still supporting businesses but I’m kinda upset about this one!

This steakhouse is well known and for good reason! My party had a terrific evening outside and had an amazing waiter named John. He took care of us and entertained us all evening. I would very much recommend this place - between the food, location, and history, what's not to like?

We had the most beautiful night at Gibsons steakhouse for our anniversary! Our waiter, Boz, was fantastic and helped make it the perfect evening. The ambience was perfect for a romantic evening. The food was absolutely incredible. The porterhouse steak was amazing. Loved every minute of eating at this restaurant - 11/10 recommend.

Definitely don't miss this steakhouse downtown Chicago! The steak was amazingly tender, the Brussels sprouts were roasted to perfection. The salads were fresh and crisp. Great wine/cocktail selection and the service is top notch. I definitely recommend making a reservation.

Gibsons was a must try on our trip to Chicago. We heard a lot about it, and I was definitely eager to try it out. Overall service was great and what you would expect from a high-end steak house. The reason this is not a 5 star is because our steak came out undercooked. I am a huge fan of my steaks being cooked Pittsburg, which is a nice char with a rare center. Ours had the char, but the steak was blue rare. Don't get me wrong, I ate what I could, and flavors were great. Overall, it is comparable to a Berns Steakhouse with their own meat grade.

Absolutely amazing food, friendly staff and a lively atmosphere. This place was absolutely packed to the brim, but it wasn't overwhelming. The filet mignon with blue cheese and a peppercorn crust was sensational! Only con is the American mule my partner ordered was so insanely sour it was undrinkable. The waiter tool it back with no issue and replaced it with a new drink. 10/10 highly recommend for a fine night out!

Great food, a little pricy, we had a few waiters but some are better than others. Nice ambient - try to get a table out side to the all the crowd. And don’t skip the carrot cake for desert - it’s enormous !! Just make sure you’re sharing :) I was celebrating my birthday and they treated us very nice. Also great location :)

This is what a 5-Star Restaurant is all about: great service, food, and atmosphere. We went to celebrate a sailor's graduation from Basic Training in the US Navy. He is from another city but he wanted steak! Gibson's is one of the best in the city. They allowed us to change our seat because we wanted a better location. To top it all off, the restaurant picked up his tab for the meal as a surprise to us. He was extremely grateful. I'm gonna have to go to the military surplus store and get me a uniform. Just kidding!

We celebrated my son’s 23rd birthday. One of the best experience we’ve had in a steakhouse. The waiter (forgot his name) was awesome! The steaks were amazing! Great dessert. Definitely will return.

Always love Gibsons ❤️ in downtown Chicago ! Marvelous busy place for steaks seafood and desserts. Great crowds with big appetites for delicious steaks grilled perfectly the way you want your steaks to be. Services is excellent. Oldtimer Justin is very helpful to make sure everything is okay ! Looking forward to our next visits !

What an awesome steakhouse, we had a all around fantastic time at Gibson's Bar & Steakhouse tonight. This establishment is not only one of the best steakhouses in Chicago, it's one of the most famous in the country, and it didn't disappoint during our visit tonight. The food was excellent and the service was perfect. We couldn't recommend this place highly enough, it's a must visit restaurant in Chicago!

Definitely not an every night kind of restaurant but if you are looking for a great to celebrate a special occasion and have some great steaks I would highly recommend Gibsons.

The vibe of this place is unreal. Piano player, people at the bar, people rooting for the Chicago Bears. It was unlike anything I ever experienced before. The bartender Zach called me by my name. I had the best steak I’ve ever had at a steakhouse. I will be recommending this to anyone in Chicago.

The wine selection was fabulous and extensive, and Demetria was delightful and her insight was valuable and thoughtful when I asked for recommendations, which I appreciated. While the service and atmosphere were top-notch, we found the food disappointing for the price point.

Was really hungry so I just went here to eat since it was nearby and it didn't look too busy. I sat outside. I ordered a steak salad and the steak were not sliced in small pieces but instead medium sized and they were in medium when I specifically requested for medium rare. The waiter was really nice and friendly though. But I wouldn't go back here again for the price and food are not worth it.

Amazing experience at a Chicago legend. From the moment we entered and were greater by Manager Rick, we knew we were in good hands. Everyone we came in contact with wished us a Happy Anniversry. Rick made sure to personally check in on us to ensure complete satisfaction. Food, drinks, service was spot on.

Had a bit of a hiccup at first with the host, but once my party got seated, our server quickly made up for our negative experience at the host stand. The food is amazing! Definitely try the shrimp cocktail, the tender filet mignon, and get as many of the shareable sides as possible. The restaurant is tight, overcrowded and a bit loud, but gives off traditional old school steakhouse vibes and creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

We visited Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse in Chicago on a busy night and had a mixed experience. The place was very packed, but we managed to get seats at the bar area, which was first come first serve. The atmosphere was lively and loud, which we enjoyed, and the views of the city at night were beautiful. However, we were disappointed by the food and service. We ordered the top items on the menu, expecting them to be the best, but they were mediocre at best. The lobster bisque was bland, the bread was stale, and the steak was overcooked. The server was not very helpful or friendly, and did not offer any suggestions or recommendations. We expected more from a place that claims to be one of the best steakhouses in Chicago. We felt like we wasted our money and time here. We would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality steakhouse experience.

What a lovely place! I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, but I never went inside. The weather was perfect so I sat outside and met a couple of local women while I ate. It was peaceful and beautiful and luxurious. The best day ever. Very good steak and Caesar salad. Can’t wait to come back.

If you get Michael, then “everything here is a cut above the rest. “ The side dishes were good but nothing mind blowing. The fish was a great start. A good balance of flavor between the vegetables and the fish. The steak was cooked well for me. A few of my friends had it undercooked when they got theirs. The Carrot cake was amazing. Not too sweet and a strong yet subtle cream cheese frosting. The service was great. Definitely worth a check out.

  • 4/5 Scott B. 1 year ago on Google
Very busy as most places are on a beautiful evening. Super crammed but once you get to your table, service was solid, drinks were good, side salad was pretty pedestrian, shoestring fries were seasoned well and had a nice crisp to them, bread was a little hardy, mashed potatoes were typical, most steaks were cooked well but one of our steaks was dry and a bit overdone. Also if you come on a weekend, it seems everyone is having a birthday. I know it's a tradition but kinda takes away from the experience hearing a birthday shout every 10 minutes.

one of the classic chicago steak houses - probably the true one. extremely busy but still an amazing experience! the waiters are a show itself. they are doing a great job in this packed place. the meat is excellent and so well cooked that it doesn’t need any sauce. the sides are traditional but really tasty. don’t miss the desert cake! it’s a blast!

We were here for our anniversary dinner. The steaks were delicious. Cocktails were a bit too strong but tasted really good. It was a bit too crowded when we were there.

Was a little disappointed that it was wet aged but they really know how to cook steaks well. Lobster bisque was delicious. Creamy and not overly salty. 👌🏼

The steak is great! So is the fish! I love the quality and service, everyone is friendly and makes you feel welcome! The dessert is huge, not kidding, huge enough that four men can’t finish! Highly recommend this place and definitely will revisit!

I love steak and I can say Gibsons Ribeye was good, Mash Potatoes were Awesome, but they had no king crab legs and only shrimp cocktail, a little disappointed but overall service was great

Matthew was fantastic. Best server I’ve had at any restaurant by far. Not only was he polite, but he was able to answer every question we had about the menu and drinks. This was our first time dining here so we had many questions. The food was phenomenal and it provided a perfect end to our first day of vacation and was an excellent way to celebrate our recent engagement! Next time we visit we will be requesting him!

This place redefines steak. They in-house age their steaks and grill them to perfection. Everything about this restaurant is impressive. Not 1 thing was lacking, everything was perfect, service, cocktails, wine list, sides, environment, ambiance. You cannot have a bad time here, ever. Best steak ever.

  • 5/5 Emil J. 2 years ago on Google
This steakhouse is America’s #1 standalone restaurant for revenue for a reason. The steaks are cooked to perfection, the ambience is superb and the wait staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. And oh my the desserts…bring some loose pants and a few friends to help.

I came here to celebrate my husbands birthday. Santo was our server, and he was a delight! The restaurant was staffed very well, and we were greeted by everyone as we passed by! I had the whitefish.. it was HUGE. The tartar sauce was amazing and went so well with the fish. It isn’t so seasoned or spicy so the sauce and sides make up for it. My husband got the steak and said it was good… it wasn’t WOW amazing, but still delicious. As our sides, we got mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, and mushrooms. They were also good but nothing spectacular. Santo brought a hot fudge sundae (it’s not on the menu) for my husbands birthday.. that was delicious. We had tea and coffee afterwards- and I recommend the mint and green tea! We didn’t get the try any other dessert though. Honestly, I’m still giving 5 stars because the service was just so good. I would come back because the ambiance is romantic and upscale, and the service is even better. If you’re in the Chicago area, this is a place to try at least once … maybe you’ll be back again :)
