This place is such a vibe! The location is great, the ambience is relaxing, and everything about this place screams style/luxury from the moment you walk in. My fiancé and I enjoyed drinks served by Matt- they were made so well! Totally worth visiting this place- it’s tucked away on the second floor (use the door left of the Starbucks entrance). 100/10 recommend- will be revisiting with friends and family!

Nice cocktail bar in the heart of the loop, located on the second floor of a hotel. Unfortunately the ambiance here isn't anything to brag about, a library feel in a very small space overlooking the loop. But the cocktails were well made and they have some that benefit local charities which is nice. If you are in the loop not a bad place to grab a cocktail, but wouldn't call this a destination bar by any means.

One of the best drink places my fiancée and I have visited in a very long time! I would highly recommend this hidden gem in Chicago to anyone that is visiting and to locals as well. We got to meet the owner Matt during our visit who made sure our visit wasn't anything other then perfect.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! We were In Chicago for our anniversary and went rooftop bar hopping and fine dining all the way.... accidentally we found Vol.39. It's a true mixology heaven!  Every drink we tried was better than the previous one! Bartenders  Dylan and Ruben executed every cocktail perfectly! But Natalie.... the cocktail server is absolutely amazing! She will guide you through the menu and tell you exactly what you need and will like! We had a blast! If you never been here.... you must stop by! Thank you guys, we will be back

Great atmosphere , bar tenders are chill. Located in the kimpton. There was a crazed expo woman that kept berating her fellow employees, but perhaps it's a Chicago thing . Anyways drinks were good, we got the doctors order (tastes like a a strong mai tai) and 18th and Ashland . Would recommend both. Dark atmosphere, very date night vibes. My favorite bar in Chicago for now (better than kumiko)

Well definitely a hidden Gem , located in the financial district is not your regular party side of town , however is definitely worth going there Before continuing please if you go there get the “Puerto Escondido “ cocktail before the change the menu (they do every season). Place is very elegant and relax the bar tender very attentive and knowledgeable usually there are two bartenders running the show. Is a nice place to relax and just have a quite conversation, no need to scream your lungs out so the other person can hear you. I have gone to “The Office” an extension of the aviary and let me tell you the office was 5 times more expensive and 10 times worst in drink quality so yes Volume 39 is the spot for a quite and relaxing night . If you got this far let me give you another drink to try The Quince Revolution a very fragrant and sweet drink almost like drinking roses , is strong and sweet. But in reality they are known for their old fashions so definitely give those a try This is my new chill spot for sure ! My congratulations to the bartenders they are really changing the way drinks are made !

Very good atmosphere. The drinks are specialized cocktails. Plush couches and comfortable chairs make this a cozy place. The staff is attentive and very professional. I went twice during my visit in Chicago and on a weekday it feels like a busy happy hour. On Saturdays the environment feels more intimate. There was live music that was very entertaining but not so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation. I'd highly recommend this place. The name and theme is played up at every opportunity

I am very glad that I Randomly found this establishment! Beverage menu, as well as the food menu reads so beautifully. I’m actually looking forward to returning to try the food. The interior design is as wonderful as the service. Brandon really made me feel welcome. I’m sure it is not a hidden gem, but it is a definite Chicago spot worth checking out!

Some of the best drinks I've had in the United States. Clarified punches are difficult to perfect, and this bar offers two. Side note: Jordan and Matt are both amazing.

Well crafted cocktails in a very cool setting. Service was great and the vibe was awesome. It does seem like they accept reservations for couches and tables near the windows so keep that in mind. Plenty of cocktails to choose from , I went with a Boulevardair and it was on point.

I've been here 3 times. Great atmosphere, lighting etc. There was one server and he would have been a much larger asset if he would have known more about the drinks. The drinks were a little expensive for what you get but this isn't a weekend spot. More of a once every 6 months type thing.

My husband, my best friend, and I came here after dinner a block away because we wanted to check out some new places in an area we don’t often come to. First of all, we loved the decor and vibe - it was comfortable and very laid back but classy. The hostesses and servers were wonderful and accommodating and the drinks were amazing! The bartender made me mocktails because I’m on a break from alcohol and they were fantastic! All I had to say was what kind of drink I was looking for and I was pleasantly surprised both times. We recommend coming here if you want to chill and have a few drinks to unwind.

Brandon was our mixologist for the night tonight. All of our drinks were absolutely fantastic and when I wasn’t sure of what I wanted he recommended an AMAZING drink for me! Thank you Brandon!!!! This was an awesome experience!!

Very disappointed on our second visit. Server wasn't up on food options, wasn't responsive, didn't seem to care much about us, kept looking elsewhere when we were talking to him, and just didn't make experience pleasant. Drinks and food very over priced and we are used to paying $$$ for good food. Portions on cheese board and charcuterie board were tiny. We have always enjoyed Kimpton food and drink. Not this time.

Came in with my coworkers, sat at the bar and ordered a round of cocktails from the female bartender (Nicole). We didn't enjoy the 18th Ashland drink and requested a different one. As soon as we did her attitude changed, she became incredibly cold and short. She had already been a standoffish but after we didn't enjoy her drinks she was downright unwelcoming. We left shortly after, not only was her customer service awful but she didn't seem to care about our experience in the slightest. Several other coworkers of ours commented on a similar experience on separate occasions. I think our time frequenting volume is at an end.

Fantastic bar inside a beautiful classic Chicago building (that used to be a bank). Music is just loud enough to provide backgound atmosphere without interfering with normal conversation. The drink menu is well developed, diverse and sophisticated.

Volume 39 makes the best cocktails I have probably ever had in my entire life, and I have traveled quite extensively and sampled many a drinks. I stayed at the Kimpton hotel this bar resides in so night one I decided to go and sample their Sazerac. This can be a sometimes difficult drink to make, but Volume 39 handled it with ease and produced the best Sazerac I have ever had, hands down. I decided to go back the next night to end the night off right with their $35 old fashioned, I figured you only live once. Wow. 30 year old Armagnac, barrel aged sugar, bitters. This was the smoothest and most amazing drink I have ever had. The even brought out the drink in a flask inside a book. The environment is one of a speakeasy of sorts with volumes and volumes of law books around the walls. The staff was friendly and made great conversation. If I lived in Chicago I could see myself visiting this spot weekly.

What a great little hidden gem. I had walked past Vol. 39 several times and from street level it often looked empty of patrons. When I finally stopped in I discovered that this is just due to the layout of the bar and the height of the seats. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, not only in regards to the menu but the historic former New York Life Insurance Building, where the Kimpton & Vol. 39 currently reside. Drink priced are to be expected, but the selection is pretty unmatched. Have you ever been to a bar who's drink menu has it's own table of contents? Well this one does! I will definitely be back to visit Vol. 39, as my FiL is a big rum drinker and they offer an entire page just of rum selections.

Came here with my BF for a girls night out and this was the perfect place to go for good wine, good finger foods, and girl talk. We decided to order 2 bottles of wine and share and I was very happy with the quality of service. This place is for one of those "classy" nights out vs the typical take shots and go clubbing nights. The DJ here was also amazing. I should look him up because he played a perfect mix of old school, r&b jams, etc.

Came here for a birthday flight of bubbly. Very fun spot! Classy, sophisticated interior, great mixed crowd. Little pricey, but the quality is worth it. Definitely going to stop here again!

This cocktail lounge feels like a hidden gem in the Chicago loop! Located on the second floor, it's a low-key spot with a really unique cocktail menu that's been crafted by the bartending team. I came in to celebrate a friend's birthday and we all enjoyed the unique drinks we ordered. The only thing I found lacking was in the snacks & food menu where there weren't too many vegetarian friendly options to fill up on - had to settle for a cheese plate and a tomato tartar dish. I hope to see the menu expand a bit in the future to cater better to dietary restrictions.

Nice library laid back vibe. Good views to grab a cocktail. Drinks were good. Staff was good. But like most Chicago bar/ lounges. Drinks little over priced. If your staying at the grey hotel or near it is a nice spot to grab A drink before heading out for the night.

This is a little gem. Well balanced and unique drinks. If you try something new and it’s not your style, they’ll make it right. I liked how quiet it was and the attention that the server gave us. Would recommend.

This would be a PERFECT 1st date place for wine drinkers. Perfect volume with a very relax feel to it, almost like when you're relaxing at a garden. Imagine different wineries all in one place in a social and elegant venue.

Such a lovely restaurant. The food, drinks and services were top notch. My server, Grace, provided such a great service and her food recommendations were outstanding. I will definitely recommend this restaurant and will be returning as well.

Great craft cocktail here. The decoration is great too. It’s elegant place. Recommended to try.

Incredibly decorated with a modern masculine feel 1 clean and uncluttered. All of the staff seem to work as a team and any will take your request. More than just drinks at this place! We had the Brandy Old Fashioned and the Yatch Club. But were what you expect from a highly rated Chicago cocktail house. Definitely a place to return and will bring friends.

Amazing drinks! Definitely check out their martini flight and finish up your night with a vesper martini and a vol. 39 old fashioned. You will not be disappointed!
