I love this place! Honestly is the best hamburger I have ever tried!! I’m very picky with hamburgers and this is a solid 10. The single burger comes with 2 meats so that’s a lot! I recommend adding the extra of egg and bacon because it’s so good you wont regret it! The hamburger is huge so you could easily get fries and share fries and the burger with someone else. This place is always busy but it’s worth the wait trust me. The French fries are a must as well, it’s pricey like 10 bucks for just the fries but it is worth it. For the single burger and the fries you’ll spend around 40 dollars. I came twice when I was in Chicago! Loved it!

No reservations. First come first serve. When we came we were seated right away by the kitchen. Does it live up to the hype and is it the best burger I ever had in my life? No not really because I’ve had a lot of burgers in my life. It is however a really great burger and I would get it again if I was in the area. Prices are fair because quality was great. -Double cheeseburger with bacon and egg 5/5 -crispy fries 5/5

Best Burger Ever!! Go with egg and bacon on a single (which has 2 Pattie’s). Double burger (which has 3 Pattie’s) is not necessary. Au Cheval special sauce is extraordinary. Craft beer selection on draft was impressive. We came during the day to check if it was as good as our night time visits. Sat at a booth with sun poring in. Previously we sat at bar after being out elsewhere. Au Cheval is an excellent night cap. Very friendly staff.

The double burger is really a triple! Be warned its a lot of food. Everything is super high quality and lots of care goes into the food. The fried eggs especially are fun to watch the cooks making them in their cute little single egg pans. Expect line ups and waiting for a table. Don't come here if you are in a rush. I am docking a point because the meat and mornay sauce for the fries are super salty. I'll come here again and try more items on the menu.

Everything was delicious and all the staff were very friendly/helpful! They don’t take any reservations so we arrived around 5:30 to put our name down. We waited about an hour, a little less. After we were seated, our server arrived quickly and took our orders. He was super attentive-he removed empty plates quickly and refilled our drinks right away. The burger was perfect, as expected. The salad was bright and fresh, a great complement to the heavy main course. The fries were perfectly crispy and salty.

This was the best diner experience I’ve ever had in America. Elevated diner food with no fuss, amazing taste and even better service. The rim on the Bloody Mary with dry garlic is to die for! The burger is juicy, tasty, super soft but firm bun, the bacon is just extraordinary and the egg was cooked to perfection. I was so full but couldn’t stop eating the hash brown… like, amazing. And dessert was just gluttony but absolutely worth it. I ended up sharing with someone sitting next to me and our server Spencer said it was on the house! Like, 10/10 experience! The only but is the line system at the entrance door is a bit confusing and everyone is jamming at the entrance which I found a bit overwhelming.

My first time in Chicago and everybody recommended ‘Au Chavel’ First things first, make a reservation because the waiting can be as long as 2 hours. I had a 2 hour waiting and took a bike ride to ‘Millennium Park’ and back to enjoy my meal here. It was perfect. Parking will be an issue, so please consider this as well. I have added descriptions to the amazing food pictures I managed to take. I hope you have as much fun as I did ❤️👋 Adios Amigo, thank you for reading.

Before I get to the food, Would give 6 stars to service if I could, I hope I got the name right, Wes was just exceptional in helping us with our visit to Cheval from beginning to end and made the experience just that much more pleasant, thank you. As for the food , the cheese burger 100% deserves the Rep! Best burger I have had. The tip from other reviews on single being double really helped as well. The bone marrow was exquisite as well with the side dressing that was probably better than the dish itself. The Cheval cocktail was a home run. Everything worth the 1 hour and 15 min wait ( visited at 7:30 pm on a random Wednesday)

Great vibe! We went on a Wednesday at 5 and had no wait. This was our first time here, we did the burger (single which has two patties) added the bacon and egg per previous recommendations. It was definitely a great burger but not the best we've ever had and pretty pricey...still a delicious burger and it was all cooked to perfection. Service was good. We would recommend giving it a try!¹

Everyone said that this place is a must try in Chicago, however you have to come knowing you're going to have to wait over an hour. The first time we came in it was a 3 hour wait and we decided to pass. But the second it was about an hour wait and we waited. Was it the best burger I've ever had? No... Was it good enough to wait for a couple hours? No... Besides that, the burger was tasty, the single had a double patty and I opted to add bacon. I could've gone without the bacon. I'm glad that we did stop in and try the place, but it definitely was not something I would go and do again.

I've heard for a long time about the greatness of the Au Cheval burger. Today was the day to give it a try. We arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes after it opened and it was already full! After a short wait, we were seated and dug into some VERY tasty french fries (pictured with fried egg) and a very tasty burger as well. Is it the best in Chicago? I don't know, but it is a very, very good burger. Place has a great vibe and the service is terrific! Loved my meal here and will happily return.

Per server recommendation, got the Mexico calling Cruz Blanca beer which was light and tasty, the single cheeseburger (came as double patty) with egg and bacon, and garlic crispy fries. I arrived Monday at opening at 11:05 am and had no wait. The burger was solid, but almost tasted like I could get it anywhere. I think if I had gotten a thicker/larger portion of bacon added, that would definitely make it 5 stars. The crispy fries were decent, but not as crispy as I was hoping for. Overall, I would recommend this place, but it is not somewhere to go out of your way or wait over 30 minutes in line.

Excellent burger. I’m not sure if it lives up to all the hype but a very tasty burger for sure. I had the single and it was gigantic. The cocktails were also delicious. Service was fast and friendly and the vibe in the place was cool.

As a self-proclaimed burger connoisseur, I had heard that Au Cheval had the best burger in America - so of course, my son and I had to try it during our visit to Chicago. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! We went right at lunch on a Tuesday and even though the restaurant was packed, we were able to get right in with no wait. We started with the "Crispy Fries," which were served with aioli and a fried egg on top - the perfect start to our meal. For our burgers, I opted for the single cheeseburger (which actually comes with two patties) with added bacon, while my son went for the double cheeseburger with an egg and bacon. The bacon was thicker and not crispy, but it added the perfect amount of sweetness to the burger, almost like pork belly. And while my son's burger was a bit too thick with three patties, we couldn't deny the incredible flavor and quality of the beef. Don't be confused by the names - the single actually has two patties and the double has three. But no matter which burger you choose, you're in for a treat. The food was truly incredible, and my son and I both agreed that this was easily one of the best burgers we've ever had. If you're a burger lover, you simply must make a stop at Au Cheval. The quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail in each dish truly make this place stand out. And despite its reputation and popularity, the staff were welcoming and accommodating, making our experience even better. Highly, highly recommend!

As good as advertised! Stopped by at 11:30am on a Saturday and waited 30 minutes. Atmosphere is one of a kind, sort of a jazzy/upscale diner feel with the kitchen in the center of the restaurant. Servers were rockstars. Tried the double cheeseburger with bacon and egg. For a $30 burger my expectations were high, and Au Cheval delivered. Juicy beef, sweet bacon and a perfectly cooked egg combine to create a heavenly marriage of flavors. Absolutely my #1 Chicago burger right now. Impressive amount of craft cocktails and draft beers too.

Delicious! Don't think I can add on top of what others have said. **** For those with gluten/dairy sensitivities, they do provide options!!! One person in my party was able to order a burger with a "hash brown" bun on the bottom and no cheese (still comes with their mayo onions and pickles between the hash brown and beef patties). Was excellent, per that individual.

Excellent meal. Was told great things and that is what we received! So good thank you so much! Great drinks great service great food definitely would recommend this place. The burger was superb just fair warning everyburger comes with two patties a single is a double a double is a triple. Other than that all around great place if visiting Chicago I would definitely stop in to try there burgers. Amazing Amazing Amazing thank you. Great fries too the crispy fries come with an egg on them yummy. The chicken appetizer could be a whole meal but so good I would come by and order just that. Again definitely would recommend to a local or tourist come on down.

The ambiance, the anticipation, the hype are a 5 star experience. The two hour wait was exquisite, we walked along the river and imagined the decadent meal the menu described. But the food did not live up to our wildest dreams. My burger patties were over cooked and cold somehow. They charged 20 dollars for a burger but could only afford two overworked waiters to run the whole joint on a weekend. It was too dark in there to see what i was eating. a fantastic experience but for burgers and fries five guys is tastier and cheaper.

The wait was pretty long when we went for Monday lunch - we tried three things on the menu: Single cheeseburger with egg: it was extremely filling and the egg was definitely worth the addition. It was good but I think I would’ve preferred something a bit more saucy. Will try it with bacon next time. Bone Marrow: the jam is so so so good, I don’t know how they make it but I’d say this is a must try. Root beer: it’s a Chicago style root beer called berghoff, highly carbonated…

Hands down one of the best burgers I have ever had! We had about a 50 minute wait when we arrived at the location as it is fairly small and bar seating is actual seating so you can’t snag those spots. We got sat a lot quicker and the service was spectacular! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

There’s a reason why the burger is rated one of the highest in the US! Delicious juicy meat, make sure you add the egg and thick cut bacon to have the full experience. Wait times are crazy so be ready for hours of wait! The place itself is very tiny.. not recommended for big parties cause the tables are set and don’t accommodate large parties so you’ll literally sit on top of each other. Loved the fries too! Definitely getting back cause just can’t get enough!

Great burger and espresso martini! We were surprisingly able to walk in and get seating near the bar almost immediately. I would recommend calling ahead to get your reservation though. Ambience was low key with a nice amount of hustle and bustle. Sneaking away from the cold weather and biting into a warm burger is one of life’s simplest joys!

If this isn't the best burger around, it has to be close. I always enjoy this burger - two or three thin patties, topped with bacon, an egg, and some of their special sauce. It's juicy, incredibly flavored, and a pleasure to eat. Their carmelized bacon is some of the best I've had. Top it off with their fries and it's a fantastic and filling meal - worth the wait!

AMAZING YUMMI! That was definitely one of our best Burger we ever had. Not only the cheeseburger was delicious, also the bacon the fries and the salad. The service was very friendly and the dessert was YUMMI! Whenever we get back to Chicago we‘ll come to Au Cheval again. Definitely a MUST if you want a delicious Burger!

Au Cheval is another Chicago icon slinging out it’s popular gourmet burgers and fries. Been meaning to try this place for so long and finally had a chance to visit. I ordered the go to of many people which is the single cheeseburger but added the egg and bacon on top. Don’t be confused, the single is actually a double and the double is actually a triple so plan accordingly. The meat was well prepared but the extras of egg and bacon really made the burger. The bacon was thick cut and seasoned perfectly. Everything melted in your mouth. I’d definitely eat this burger again but be aware, it is pricey so it’s definitely a splurge compared to something like In-n-Out which tastes equally as delicious. Service was fantastic. Our waiter was great and even brought us an order of fries with egg and sauces on the house that we didn’t order so I was impressed.

Legendary burger spot in the West Loop. My friend and I made our way here around 3 p.m. on a Saturday, mentally prepared for the usual wait that this hotspot commands. To our pleasant surprise, we snagged a pair of bar seats, avoiding any wait time. Eager to make the most of our visit, we started with the chopped liver—offered in limited quantities each day. Rich, decadent, and impossibly creamy, the chicken liver was a revelation. But what truly elevated it to another level was the toast that accompanied it. It had the perfect ratio of butter-soak to crispiness, making each bite a sinful, satisfying experience. No visit to Au Cheval would be complete without sampling their legendary burgers, and I opted for the most decadent of them all: the double cheeseburger with bacon and egg. The additional toppings made the burger quite hefty, requiring some strategic maneuvering to enjoy it in manageable bites. Despite this, every component played its part perfectly—the bun was flawlessly toasted, the bacon crisp yet not overpowering, and the egg yolk added an indulgent creaminess that melded with the rich, juicy patties. For those planning a visit, just know that Au Cheval doesn't accept reservations, so an off-hour visit might be your best bet to dodge the wait. And if your heart is set on the chopped liver, arrive early before they run out. Among the countless burger joints I've visited in the U.S., this one effortlessly ranks in the top five. A must-visit, must-taste, must-experience kind of place.

Went to Au Cheval a few months ago with my boyfriend after being told this place had the “world’s best burgers”. The food was good enough, but definitely didn’t live up to the hype, not worth waiting 2 hours for, and overpriced. My boyfriend requested a non-alcoholic cocktail and the server made a great suggestion, so he had 2 of them. What we didn’t know was that each drink would cost $14 which is insane for a non-alcoholic beverage. We spent $150 in total on lunch for 2. Food was good, my Bloody Mary was great, service was nice, nice ambiance, but it’s absolutely not worth the price or wait.

Each of us ordered the single burger. Apparently the single burger actually has two patties. The burger definitely can be rated the #1 burger in Chicago! The combination of the patties, bun is being put at the best mix. (Definitely add bacon, so crispy and adds so much flavor). I would be back to try bone marrow as well. I was coming in with friends during dinner time and was informed about two hour wait, so we came next day at 10am, no wait at all. So would recommend coming in during lunch time to avoid wait time.

Busy spot. Arrived at 3:50 pm. Was told the wait would be about 45 minutes for 2 people. We put our name on the list and waited next door at the Lone Wolf. We were called in about 30 minutes on this night. I had the double with bacon, the wife enjoyed the single with egg bacon and lettuce, and tomato. Both were delicious 😋 I highly recommend.

My son and I absolutely loved our burgers. I was a little Leary after waiting for an hour and a half for a burger. The reviews really hyped up this burger, I thought, how can it be that good?? Well it IS AMAZING! We got the double cheeseburgers with the egg and bacon which had just the right balance of everything!! I always I mean always put Ketchup on my burgers…. First time I didn’t was at Au Cheval! I’m not a bacon lover, but this thick cut peppered bacon was fabulous. The meat, just cooked right and juicy!! Just as good was the potato hash with duck heart gravy!! This has an egg too and wow, just wow!! I’m so glad I don’t live in the area, this place is soooo good. I will be back to try the chicken, eat the hash and repeat!!!

I HAD to break my COVID diet and eat here. Everytime I eat here they get better and better! The service gets quicker and quicker!! The server gets nicer and nicer!!! My favorites are of course the WORLD famous cheeseburgers and root beer. Can't get any more American than that. The menu is simple which I appreciate. Ventured out and tried the bone marrow this time and it is like beefy butter. Just mouth watering. COVID precautions are on point too. Not sure if we got lucky if it was an off time but the wait was short. Can't wait for indoor dining to resume.

The single burger has 2 patties, and double burger has 3. I couldn’t finish my single burger but I have to say it’s very delicious. We were lucky to be seated within five minutes (went around 15:00). The fried chicken is great, they give you wings, drumsticks and thighs (2 for each). Add bacon! The bacon is amazing!!

Best burger I've ever had. The single cheese burger comes w two parties so don't be fooled! And definite add the egg and thick sliced bacons, you won't regret it! The fries is a must try too, the sauces that comes with it are just too good. And finally, the bone marrow is delicious as well, specially the beef cheek sauce on the side! Just a side note, wait time is usually ~2 hours on weekend nights and ~1 hour for lunch, so drop your name down first!

Au Cheval offers a select menu with the best options. As someone who’s Gluten and Dairy Free, I was pleasantly surprised with the options they offered. They have a hash “bun” that’s crispy and delicious. Their fries are amazing, and the bread and butter pickles were my favorite. They even have a gluten free IPA!

Another "not my first time here, but first Google Review" for this place! Pro Tip: Avoid the waitlist - Best seats are at the counter around 11am! If you haven't figured it out yet for the Burgers: Single = Double; Double = Triple. Excellent service, food, and vibe - just like other Hogsalt Hospitality joints! Until next time!

I consider myself as burger gourmet. Definitely in my top 3 list. I ordered double cheeseburger with bacon. Double comes with 3 patties. Also we ordered a fries comes with sunny side up egg and truffle dipping. There are approximately 15-20 tap beer options. We waited 30 minutes but usually waiting time is over an hour. Inside was crowded, if you don't feel comfortable in crowded places, maybe there's not a place for you.

What a joke, how good this spot is! The burger is seasoned to perfection (get it with egg and bacon but do NOT get the double, it's just a touch too much... not that I speak from experience or anything), and with those little paper slices of pickle and house sauce?? Dear lord. We also got the honey chicken, which also stays juuuust on the right side of richness. Like they figured out how much would be too much and took a half step back. The fries were a bit too salty, but boohoo. Everything else was phenomenal, and I really dug the whole upscale diner feel of it. Highly recommended!

When I shared that we were traveling to Chicago, Au Cheval was one of the most recommended food spots. Being a burger person, we had to add it to the list. I don’t know the city deeply enough, but the rustic & bustling ambience felt very Chicago to a visitor. While the burger was good (a classic burger style), I thought the hidden gem was their fried chicken. Seems like the sauce was developed in-house, and it interestingly reminded me of a mix between an American and an oriental barbecue sauce. I might even put this above Au Cheval’s widely known burger.

Having missed out previously due to the well-known long waits, I finally got lucky with a spot at the counter on a Wednesday afternoon. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Service is quick, friendly and efficient. You feel welcome and not rushed; for a place with consistent lines out the door, that's impressive. As for the food. I went with the cheeseburger with an egg, and a side of fries. The cheeseburger was excellent: fresh, perfectly cooked, juicy with the right amount of seasoning. Loved it! And the fries were perfect - seasoned to perfected and cooked just right. So why only 4 stars? Perhaps the hype took away some of the greatness, but I have had equally good burgers around town. And while the burger was very fairly priced, the side of fries (while delicious and plentiful) were not. I would like to add that they'd really do themselves a favor offering a vegetarian option. As someone who eats meat less and less, and whose wife is vegetarian, this is essentially off limits for us as a couple. It's 2023, time to try something new.

Best burger I have ever had and excellent staff! I went solo and they sat me at the bar right away and got my food to me within 10 mins. At the bar, I got to see them prep everything too! An exciting feat and delicious food. I would highly recommend and they keep the line moving. The burger is nothing too complicated, just what you want. I am a big fan of the egg with the fries too, just a nice and classic flavor. The dessert was solid and a good portion for one (if you're hungry) or two.

One of the absolute best burgers we have ever had. My husband had looked up best burger in America and saw that this spot was rare #1. When we decided to make a trip to the area, this was our first spot and it definitely didn’t disappoint! The burger was perfect amount of juicy, the wings had incredible flavor, and we couldn’t decide on the potato side so we ended up with both fries and hash browns. If you’re torn between the two, they’re both good, but go with the hashbrowns. I cannot remember our server’s name but she was so bubbly and great and was helpful in helping us navigate the area as well. We can’t wait to return!

Great sized burgers, and extremely fresh and juicy. Full of flavor. Service was very efficient and attentive. Garlic aioli dip with the fries was full of flavor, and the Ernest Hemingway cocktail was very very good. I thought about docking a star because of how difficult it is to get in to eat, as they take no reservations and is first come first serve (wait-list). We've tried coming here to eat 2x previously before now, and it was impossible to get in (2-3hr wait times). But in the end, this isn't a reflection on the spectacular food or service received. Will definitely return in the future to try the bone marrow.

I had heard of Au cheval before, they have one in New York, but I haven't had a chance to go. I'm currently visiting Chicago and we wanted to eat a burger and saw that this restaurant was kind of close to us. We know that the wait is usually long but we decided to try it on a Monday around 4:45 p.m. We got there and there were a couple of stalls open and we picked our seats. Our waiter was lovely, she gave us a couple of recommendations. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers, one with bacon and the other with egg, 2 sides of fries, fried honey chicken and bone narrow with toast. The food came to the table quickly, the cheeseburger was perfectly cooked, I don't eat meat too often but I thought the burger was pretty solid. The fries, on the other hand, were okay and were small pieces, the fried chicken was good and the bone narrow was on point. I liked the aesthetic and atmosphere of the restaurant, like an elevated dinner. I think this place is overrated, but you should try these burgers at least once. Also the pink lemonade cocktail is a must.

I'm really not into vegan but the food here is made to fill you up that truly add nutritious stuff to your body. I truly enjoyed the food, especially the vegan burger. The flavors are well-balanced it will not tip you off the moment you eat it. I enjoyed every bite, as the taste does not overpower the wholeness of the burger despite the other ingredients is raw. The texture is just right to let you enjoy and finish the whole burger and will let you order for more.

still thinking about that salad and that burger. great for lunch. dark diner interior. outdoor seating available, weather-permitting. very large portions. make sure you order the fries.

During these turbulent times I was amazed by the service and quality of Au Cheval. A co-worker recommended this place to me and I think I owe them a beer for sharing their knowledge. I decided to come to Au Cheval on the first day of my long awaited vacation, or stay-cation that is. I couldn't be happier with experience. A combination of the youthful ambience, amazing music, and delicious food coupled with dimly lit lights made for an unforgettable visit. Please, if you get the chance, stop by Au Cheval. You won't regret it. Don't come all at once. Social distance and please wear your mask.

This is first time for me here in this area. My friend told me about this restaurant, what a great advice he gave me. The food is delicious to be honest, there is nothing complicated here with orders. They have two kind of burger single and double cheese burger. The funniest part is the single is double😂. The fries with cheese souse is incredible. I recommend this restaurant for those how loves cheese and burger. You will have fun!!. Ohh I forget to mention the decorations, this is what got me interested in the beginning. The candelas, lights, and the old fashion type. Also, service is good they are kind and friendly.

This place was nice, the staff was really attentive and polite. First of Let me tell you that the bacon on this burger just melts in your mouth so delicious. I think this is by far one of the best burgers I’ve ever tried. I was not a big fan of the wings, they are good but nothing special. If you ever visit this location go for the burger is a must try.

Long time customer, first time reviewing...what's left to say about this AMAZINGLY AWESOME place that so many on here haven't said?! Stopped in last night to celebrate 2 birthdays now that places are open for dine-in. We were greeted and treated better than royalty, like family! Customer service was through the roof! The food...mmmmmm...is sooooooo frickin delicious!!! I get the cheeseburger with the egg and bacon every time! Favorite burger. Ever. Got one to go also haha! The drinks were made to perfection! Love this place! Highly highly recommend! One massively cosmic shout out to ALL the staff working last night (1/28/21). You guys made our birthdays, especially trying to celebrate covid-bdays these days. A little goes a long way and you guys went to the full moon and back for us! Thank you again!

I got takeout from here, which they have made available throughout the pandemic. I got the single burger, which comes with two patties. Plus, I added bacon and an order of fries. It was absolutely delicious. Depending upon how far you live away, you may have to warm up the food when you get home. But, nonetheless, it was great. I will be ordering from them again.

Au Cheval: Au Cheval is a nice little restaurant with a pub like atmosphere. The wait seemed daunting initially (3 hours) but that’s on par with most of the Chicago pizza parlors we’ve been to. We explored the city for about 2 hours (including a stop by the United Center) when we got the notification that our table was ready early (sweet!). My college roommate and I both ordered the "Single" cheeseburger (two flattop-griddle patties, a slice of American cheese, diced onions, a Dijon-and-mayo-based sauce, pickles, thick-cut bacon with maple glaze and studded with black pepper and a beautiful egg, sunny-side up with a sprinkling of chives). I was astounded by the size of my burger when it arrived. At first I wasn’t even sure how to attack the thing. It comes in two halves, one containing the sunny-side up egg, the other the patties and bacon. I smashed the two halves together and used my knife like a spear to keep it together. After my first bite I knew that this would be no ordinary burger, but an entrée fit for an epicurean feast. The patties and cheese were great, but the addition of the runny egg was exquisite (although messy). The bacon was super thick and also packed with flavor. If that wasn’t enough the Dijonnaise sauce practically pushed my taste buds into an orgasm. I was full halfway through this thing, but I knew there would be no to go box (as we planned on more city exploration) so I channeled my inner doughboy and wolfed the entire thing down. I honestly wasn’t hungry and did not eat again for almost 24 hours (excluding a couple drinks that evening). This was hands down the best burger I’ve ever had and I can’t really think of another burger even coming close. Au Cheval’s burger is Doughboy approved and is a MUST TRY if you enjoy burgers and can visit Chicago. This truly is one of the best burgers in the country. Doughboy_Food_Reviews

Phenomenal burger, very juicy and full of flavor. I almost inhaled most of it. Bone marrow was also very delicious, tasted like a savory peanut butter and jam when placed on a toast with caramelized onions. I wish this came as an appetizer first before the burger. Dessert was also amazing, but too heavy to finish off along with the other two dishes. Chocolate whiskey was forgettable. Waiting time can be brutal, expect to wait at least an hour at dinner time. Best time might be at opening hours.

How could you EVER give this place less than 5 stars. Best burger I’ve ever had. Sat outside beautiful. French fries are perfection. Nothing bad you can say or complain about. Service awesome get there when they open for for lunch. Place is busy.

This might be one of the best cheese burgers in the country! Everything about it perfect: the beef, pickles, onions, cheese, tiny diced onions, dijionase. Honestly perfect. If your any where close to this place you need to make it a priority. Awesome open kitchen slinging burger after burger. The egg and bacon are worth every penny!

We went on a Thursday afternoon, line was out the door. We were lucky enough to get two seats up at the bar, facing the cooks. Watching these guys and the efficiency of their work, makes you really appreciate what goes into them putting food on the table. They had a very large selection of tap beers, tried two different varieties, both were cold and fantastic. We got the single burger (The single has two patties, the double has three... go figure) and the fries. The food arrived within about 5-6 minutes and was great. Clean the plate great. The staff was friendly, attentive and very polite. For a place this busy, it was a nice surprise. Can't wait to return!

Was happily surprised to find a spot at the bar right away on a beautiful Sunday around 11am. Very fun sitting there watching the cooks work their magic and crank out the food. The fried bologna sandwich was sliced thin, piled high, and melt-in-your-mouth AMAZING. Not quite like the bologna you remember from childhood! I’ll be dreaming about it tonight. My husband got the single burger with the bacon and egg added. Outstanding. Don’t forget to split some fries. Very tasty with an incredible garlic dipping sauce! Can’t wait to go back.

The name really speaks for itself, very famous burger spot and a must if you are in Chicago. Place is ridiculously busy, the don't reservations ahead so best way is to go early and put your name on the list.. waiting times are usually 2 to 4 hours so make plans accordingly. Plenty of bars around to kill that time and staying hungry for this burger is advised. Burger itself was delicious, order with the egg and bacon to make the best out of the experience, you will not regret it. There is a sandwich available which is good but if you are a burger lover just go for that tasty burger.

Au Cheval has been on our list since we moved to chicago! Here’s my honest opinion: Was it a really good burger? Yes. Was it the best burger I’ve ever had? No, but that’s okay! We went on a Saturday evening and put our name in around 5pm and were told it would be a 3 hour wait for 2 people. We expected that and got drinks and apps nearby, so no biggie. Ended up only being a little over 2 hours. But I think that’s where this place gets people… if you wait long enough and have enough drinks, this burger will taste like heaven. The vibe is very cool and I think being there at night only added to that (see photos). Finally, I really didn’t think it was that overpriced… I mean a single burger has 2 patties, the side of fries is plenty to share with another person or two, and there’s $3 tall boy options. Personally, price was actually kind of refreshing compared to other “must-try” places in Chicago. Overall, good food, good vibes, and good service! I would definitely bring someone here from out of town or who has never been before.

Indulged in both the burger and fried chicken, and I must say, excellence was an understatement. The burger easily ranking among one of the best I have every tried & each bite was amazing. As for the fried chicken, it was a crispy and succulent & I really enjoyed the sauce they put on it. To top the cherry, The staff's service & attentiveness also made the experience great. Highly recommend eating here!

  • 5/5 Dan S. 8 months ago on Google
It’s true what they say, this is a really good burger. This place has so many good reviews so I’m here only to confirm the service and food is still good. I wish their burgers were charbroiled instead of gas but I’m just nitpicking here. I’m definitely coming back for the bone marrow dish. Don’t forget to remove the surcharge from the bill and give it to the server.

  • 5/5 Mike G. 8 months ago on Google
Always lives up to the hype. One of the best burgers in Chicago, no question. The bone marrow and salad were amazing, although the marrow was mostly fat, it was still delicious with the toast and jam. Next time will be trying the fried chicken.

OMG my mouth is STILL watering over the absolute best burger I have ever had! Wow, just wow. The combination of flavors this burger brings together is absolutely outstanding. Order it with a fried egg and bacon. You're welcome! Drinks were made from scratch and delicious, and General Jane's Honey Fried Chicken is a must-try as well. Fries with garlic aioli made one of the best meals I have ever had complete! I drove all the way from Virginia to try this burger, and I will absolutely return!

  • 5/5 Prateek M. 6 months ago on Google
Wow, incredible food. The burger, the bone marrow, the bacon, the fried chicken, and the dessert were all 10/10 for me. I'm normally quite critical about the food I pay for and I would 1000% come back here for these items. Our server, Jenny, was incredible as well as she shared real opinions and recommendations with us. Come here, it's more than worth it. Only thing I'd change is the volume of the music as it's a bit too loud 😬

I've heard for a long time about the greatness of the Au Cheval burger. Today was the day to give it a try. My friend and I arrived at the restaurant 1 minute before it opened and there were half packed. We got a table under window. We had a very good experience. Burger and fries were really outstanding! The staff's service and their attentiveness also made the experience great. Highly recommend eating here! Loved my meal here and will happily return. Next time will be trying the fried chicken.

  • 5/5 Brock A. 5 months ago on Google
Au Cheval is great in every city! The burger with bacon is fantastic. Don’t forget the bacon folks! I also really enjoyed the fried chicken appetizer. Remember when you order that a “single” is actually a double and is plenty of food. The server was incredibly friendly as well! Go VERY early to put your name down so you avoid the 2-3 hour wait.
