Ivan was our server and host. He did a great job communicating the food items and service was spot on! My wife has a salt issue and cannot have cannot have much salt as it is a medical issue. It's always a challenge to find a restaurant who can accommodate her. The restaurant was fully packed Saturday night during taste of Chicago. You could tell they were struggling as they probably didn't plan on having a full house as they did. Lisa's fish came out with salt accidentally. Michael didn't hesitate to make things right and really impressed us. It was our first time here we will definitely come back. It is a beautiful cozy restaurant with amazing food and specialty drinks. Thanks Michael and Ivan!

Went here for a work dinner and really enjoyed it!! The food was delicious and the servers were all very friendly. Our group definitely ordered too much, but we enjoyed every bite anyway. I'd recommend the mussels, the poutine, and the creme brulee. They had scallops as their special and I adored them. All in all, the menu was pretty standard but everything was top notch. The restaurant has very dim lighting which definitely set the mood but did make reading the menu difficult from time to time. There were restrooms on the basement level reachable by stairs, but I'm unsure if there was an elevator or anything more accessible for that level.

We came here after a long walk in Michigan Ave, for the hope if we can get seated. We were starving so badly that we had to stop by some restaurant for check their availability. Anyway, we get seated by the bar (it was first come fist serve). They had delicious burgers and Cauliflower fries. We enjoyed our drink and time in there . It was crowded and it carried out a great vibe

Dressed up for date night with my wife and headed to this spot. It is a beautiful place! Very modern and warm! We had the Scotch Egg for an app and while I was tentative, it was delicious! We had drinks off the Pride menu which were yummy but we tried the habanero margarita and it was NASTY. My burger was not good either, I asked for mustard and it never came. The fries were great though! While the atmosphere was on point, the food and drinks overall were not.

We walked in off the street while on a one-day trip to Chicago to celebrate our Anniversary. Had no idea we were going to be treated to such a great meal, service, and atmosphere. Friendly staff that know how to read a table. The staff exuded pride in the establishment and their work. The building is stunning and the decor is rich and warm. The heated patio was perfect for brunch. Location is absolutely prime! I ordered medium-rare steak with my brunch which did come out a bit too medium for my preference. I do not mention this as a complaint... more of a tip for you rare steak lovers out there! It remained tender and juicy and I enjoyed it despite the temperature. We recommend the Duck Poutine. 👌 👍 Fantastic coffee.

Had just under an hour to enjoy a bite and drink before a show. This was a return visit to The Gage. It was memorable last year, and just as good this time too. The ambiance is classic and beautiful. Several staff were keeping an eye on the tables ensuring water was always plentiful and tables cleared. Was well taken care of including flavor profile explanations being offered to ensure it’s what I’m looking forward to when ordering. Enjoyed a nicely cooked scotch egg which was flavorful. And sparkling rose that was delicious. They say they rotate their cocktail list for the seasons, this rose matches the season in my opinion. I enjoy that attention to detail. Will look forward to returning yet again.

Our outstanding waitperson, Kim, recommended the mussels appetizer. She said it was enough for an entree, and she was right. The mussels were medium in size, sweet and super fresh. The saffron-based broth was seasoned perfectly. Kim also recommended the watermelon gazpacho to my friend. I'm not normally a fan of cold soup, but I had a taste, and it was delicious. Her wedge salad looked good, too. What's a meal without a dessert? At The Gage, they are huge (like Gibson's). We ordered the peach cobbler for two, and it would have easily served four. Freshly baked, served with a mound of premium vanilla ice cream and cajeta caramel sauce. This is one of the best desserts I've ever had (and I've had a lot of them).

Nice ambience. We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was perfect. The menu is small but thoughtfully crafted. The only recommendation would be to place your tables a little socially distant, which was missing. Overall good dining experience at The Gage.

So good to be back! First time back and did not disappoint! Best apps were prawn cocktail and of course their signature scotch egg (not to be missed!). Drinks were excellent (even had a Madeira list!). Server was attentive. Had a wonderful date night on their patio. Inside the restaurant is beautiful as well. Always a great spot; especially after a trip to the Art Institute

Our party of 4 was seated in the covered outdoor area, as it was packed in the dining room.. they're doing well! We all had burgers, 2 classic 2 venison, and they were fantastic!! Fries were very nicely cooked, crunchy. Excellent food and good service. Will return for burgers. Highly recommended

It was amazing! Preferably to book before hand. So this place is famous for its Scottish egg, that was my first time trying it and it was just amazing experience. We also tried fried pickles 🥒 also amazing, and the steak frites (not my favorite, although it had charcoal taste which I love but wasn’t tender enough for me). The Brussels and mushroom sandwich were very good. We had flourless cake for desert and it was yummy, softer than usual flourless cakes.

The ambiance of The Gage is exactly what I was looking for when dining with my colleague. Joshua was our server, he was prompt, attentive, kind, and welcoming. You could even tell he was smiling behind his mask with his eyes. The food was exquisite, we both had the smoked pork belly benedict and the country potatoes were perfection!

Great menu! Really enjoyed the salad and the burger. Wine and cocktail options are also quite good. The cauliflower steak deserves a special shout out… my wife loves it and it is so good!

Elevated pub food and lively atmosphere. I really enjoyed the bison tartare but the bread it came with was a bit too heavy for my likes. The curry was super tasty although had a disproportionate amount of potatoes compared to other veggies. The prawns were super fresh and well cooked. The rice was a bit bland. Service was attentive and very quick.

I avoided this place for years because I thought it was a tourist trap. Boy, was I wrong! Stopped in for brunch a few weeks ago because they open an hour earlier than my usual Remington's in Sunday. Great items on the brunch menu. The Gage Breakfast was perfect with a little salad and hash brown patty, which was full of veggies and cheese. Also loved the white table cloths and ambiance. We sat all the way in the back, away from the tourists. Will definitely be back!

astounding scotch egg — finally found one i can recommend. the chicken kiev is to die for good (doesn’t squirt with butter but still sensational). drinks were all lovely and staff were all fantastic, from the hosts to the servers to the bartenders — everyone going above and beyond. the lamb was falling off the bone. the salad was layered. i would absolutely recommend this place !!

Had an awesome night at this place. Was actually looking for another restaurant for dinner and stumbled upon it. Our waiter was amazing, the mussels bowl was wow! My pork shank was melt in your mouth fall off the bone. My partner had the Mac n cheese and bison burger which he said was amazing and very well prepared. The ambiance was great, one could have a good conversation without the music being overbearing. It was more of a ‘mature’ adults vibe which I enjoyed as compared to most restaurants where the ‘millennials’ frequent and make it less interesting. It is a bit on the pricey side I’d say with our bill crossing +100 but hey, how often does one do date night 😊. Was a good day out overall, I’d come again.

The Gage Old Fashion- it pretty much tastes like an elevated old fashion. One notch up. Steak Frites- Good flavor. Cooked to perfection. Worth the visit. Net time, I would love to try another plate Starlight Private Collection- Had to try it. Good flavor profile. The dessert is a must have.

The best steak I have ever eaten in my life was here on my last night in the city. My friend had the hamburger and said the same thing. The atmosphere was wonderful and the service was fantastic! Thank you for making my trip to Chicago!!

We loved our meal here! All of our meals were excellent. We tried the scotch egg (very good) and the spicy ceviche (also very good) to start. We also ordered some truffle fries and the dipping sauce is to die for. For mains we had the venison burger which was excellent and the Alaskan halibut which was also very good. They were cooked perfectly. One of the most fun things was the peach cobbler with sweet corn ice cream. Very good but you better still have an appetite because it is very large. The service was exceptional. They were very attentive and quick to refill water and take away plates. We would highly recommend this place!

Atmosphere: 5/5 - No complaints. Service: 3/5 - Server was very hard to get ahold of and quite slow. Food: 3/5 - Dinner is better, brunch was alright. The Braised Duck Poutine is very filling and heavy. It was good, but I'd avoid it if you don't want to fill up on one thing. The Brussels Sprout Tartine was very good. I personally enjoyed it a lot and would order it again. The Pork Belly Eggs Benedict was a bit salty and didn't pair very well with the concept of eggs benedict. The hash browns served with it could've been more crispy but felt sort of like a crab cake, texturally speaking. Finally, their "Hong Kong" style French Toast was huge. I was only able to take one bite and couldn't have any more of it. If you plan to order that, I wouldn't recommend ordering anything else.

Sunday Brunch - We had some tasty drinks to start, and they were all delicious! We followed with the Pub Scotch Egg and pickle chips. Our mains were wedge salad with salmon, shrimp grits, and pork belly eggs benedict. Everything was delicious. Service was prompt. Couldn't have asked for more.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. It’s right by Millenial Park and has a chef driven menu plus good cocktails. We had steak and pasta. All of it was good! The Brussels Sprouts Au Gratin and fried pickles were good appetizers.

Tried this place last week with my wife. The food here is delicious. Loved their Venison burger. The place has great ambiance and the outdoor seating area is very lively. Highly recommend this place to all those living in downtown since its just walking distance from all nearby hotels.

Great ambiance and great food We tried this place last week when my husband and I were travelling to Chicago. This place has a good ambiance and good selection of food. We tried their Venison Burger and Roasted Herb Chicken. The food was delicious. Highly recommend this place to all those who are staying in downtown. Definitely returning back to this place next time we travel to Chicago.

I was there for restaurant week lunch. The service was incredible. The shrimp toast had a weird flavor to it for me. Think it was the dill. Steak frites were great. The steak was cooked to perfection and the fries were good. The only thing to note was the quality of the steak which wasn't the best but for $25 I couldn't complain.

The 4 of us had Saturday brunch. I had the Steak and Eggs. The bavett was phenomenal! The eggs dreamy. My husband had the venison burger which he enjoyed, but noted the bun was a bit dry. One of us had a very restricted diet and our waitress Stephanie did everything she could to accommodate her. The atmosphere is classy. I highly recommend The Gage.

I love their Duck Poutine and Creme Brulee. Cocktails too; I ordered a 75 Tokyo. Actually, I love everything about the Gage down to the smallest detail. They definitely deserve that Michelin star. My waitress was Crystal. She's a sweet and easygoing lady. I hope she serves me again next time I go!

Normally one of our first restaurant trips when we visit Chicago. The Gage never disappoints. It's always nice to see the same staff on our visits. We had lunch at the bar. Both of us had the always reliable and delicious bowl of Chicken Orzo soup. The wines by the glass selection is very extensive and has some great wines on it. Can't wait to come back to The Gage.

Went by myself for a quick mimosa before going to the Art Institute. Place was PACKED. Sat at the bar. Bartenders were very nice. Received a menu and drink in 2-3 minutes! Check back often. Really solicitous. Had amazing fried pickles. Made with a crunchy tempura batter and a spicy mayo dip. SO yummy. Portion large enough to share. I’d definitely go back!

Yuge burger. Fresh fries. Delicious cocktails. Convenient location. Great atmosphere. What else could you ask for? Plenty of seating at the bar. Outside patio is on the bigger side and fully shaded as well. Service was on par with the prices. I thank the Heavenly Father everyday that I came here instead of Billy Goats.

The Gage has a long history in Chicago and has been a hallmark of South Michigan avenue. Their food continues to evolve and the high level of service and beverages never disappoint. It's impressive for a restaurant to be in business for years and be able to maintain such a high level of quality in both back and front of house while continuing to innovate. We met some friends on St Patrick's Day and if the restaurant can maintain its high level of standards on a crazy day like that, they can do it any day! We will be back for sure. Definitely worth a stop.

My friend and I went here for lunch after visiting the Millennium Park. I had the fish and chips which was so good! Rosie, our waitress was wonderful. I loved the decor, the music that was playing and even the 1930s-40s vibe that the restroom had was really cool. I will definitely visit again when I visit Chicago!

Pic is The Gage twist on a Cuban sandwich creatively upgrading to Duck Confit. The side is their Buffalo Cauliflower, a dash of coriander sets it apart and above others.

Went here with my family for lunch. The food was amazing. The owner came over and talked to us, and I tried some of their bourbon. Was so impressed by it that I brought 2 bottles. Service was amazing, even through they were busy, they took really good care of us. We will definitely go back the next time we are in town.

We had a great dinner at The Gage during restaurant week. We were visiting Chicago and this was our first stop. Our waitress Grace was friendly and attentive. Every dish was delicious, we will for sure be back. Great wine as well and Grace was very helpful in selecting that. We also loved the whole ambiance of the restaurant including great music!

Great place to eat and drink downtown! A lively gastropub even on weeknights, with live music and local beer & craft cocktails served by friendly, energetic bartenders. A sprawling bar and cocktail area, with an enclosed patio overlooking Millennial Park. I had a wonderful experience having dinner and drinks at the bar, and experienced hands-down the best Scotch egg I've ever had!!

  • 5/5 Alexandra H. 2 years ago on Google
I stopped here for lunch on my way to see a show. I started off with the sparking rose wine, which was good. It had a great red color and was not too sweet/dry. For entree, I had the duck confeit Shepard's pie that came in a cute little pot with toast and a side salad. The Shepard's pie was so good. I liked the crisp cheese on top of the pot. For desert, I had the chocolate coconut Bavario. It was a chocolate cookie with a light chocolate mouse and a scoop of coconut ice cream. There was crumbled chocolate cookie, shredded coconut, and nuts scattered on top and on the plate. This desert was amazing! Plus it was the perfect size

  • 5/5 Sutton M. 1 year ago on Google
We came here around lunchtime and it was great. Wonderful cocktails and the chicken Vesuvio was amazing! My husband got the adult grilled cheese and he liked it - a super minor thing is that the menu didn’t mention arugula in the sandwich which he doesn’t like, and it was kinda tough to remove. We loved it though and would for sure come back!

My husband and I are coming up on our one year wedding anniversary and our dinner was in the Theodore Ascher room and bar. Our families are still talking about how delicious their dinner and the blueberry cheesecake! From our first visit at The Gage we were greeted by friendly staff, had all of our questions answered, and felt very comfortable with having our most important day at The Gage. The cherry on top is that we got to meet Billy that day as well. Sheena was our contact throughout the planning process and day of. She is amazing! everything was beyond taken care of coming up to and day of our wedding dinner thanks to her and her staff. It was the most perfect day for us thanks to The Gage. Since our wedding we have visited The Gage throughout the entire year and have tried the changing menu. Every time we are so happy with the recommendations given by the staff. Fadi was the bartender at our wedding and we have had him on numerous occasions when visiting. He makes fantastic drinks and has a great sense of humor. Again our families cannot say enough things about him from our wedding. Overall The Gage has the most perfect Chicago charm to it. Besides being at an amazing location the food is beyond belief superb. Just visit..you’ll fall in love
