I was blown away by my experience here. How can a dish under the "Vegetables" section titled something as simple as, "Salt Roasted Beets" be my favorite menu item? It was FANTASTIC. I will never forget how perfectly the whipped goat cheese went with the beets and how the pistachio butter somehow made the perfect complement to the meal. For this dish alone i would fly back to Chicago. If that weren't enough, the pasta was also fantastic. Such a hearty serving of the fresh house made pasta too! I couldn't finish it because of course i had to try a dessert to really embrace the full experience. I paired both of my courses with a wine recommended by the bartender and it all went together perfectly. Will definitely be back in the future!

So many friends recommended this place so here we are. We were warned that the dishes could be a little bit too salty so we asked for less salt. It turned out great! My favorite is the half duck. Cut it and put it in the slider with the yogurt - tastes amazing. The duck meat is very tender. My second favorite is the mussels soaked in rich tomato soup. Love this place and will come again.

I have not been to this new location of the restaurant since it moved, so here I am. I was glad about the new space as it is wider and can contain more people without being overly crowded. There was a nice operational change that purple pig takes reservation via Tock now. This is a huge improvement since in the past it was first come first serve and wait time was always around 2 hours. The waiter suggested 3-4 dishes between two people, so we got the crispy pork ear as appetizer, pork shoulder and half duck as entry, and eventually latte and Sicilian iris as desert. The food was quite extraordinary. Crispy pig ear was certainly innovative and fun to start with, pork should is super comforting, the half duck impressed me and the portion was generous, and finally the Sicilian Iris was rich and delightful. The only disappointment was the latte, I think their espresso did not have a good quality, and therefore the coffee tasted badly. I guess people can’t expect too much from a cup of dessert coffee that only costs $5, but if a restaurant like this has anything on the menu, they should consider about the quality . One odd thing I noticed during the visit was that several individuals from the big group next to us were standing on the seat and tried to see something outside of the window. Their waiter or any staff seemed not making an attempt to check on them or even stop them. I am not sure if that because everyone was occupied at that time, but it was slightly disturbing to other customers. In general the visit was good. The price tag was certainly high, $40-60 per person without drink, so I recommend the restaurant for special occasions.

The reviews on this place were great and we have always wanted to try it when in town. We finally tried it for lunch and it was really good. They serve small sharable plates and everything we had was good. We especially liked the whipped Feta with toast and the Halibut was amazing. We also tried the sardines and some mozzarella item that was good. I don’t have a single complaint about this place and I’m looking forward to going back. There were three of us for lunch and two of us had a hard cider. It was not a cheap lunch, that’s for sure. The bill for three of us was $116 not including the tip.

Gastronomic paradise. Not my scene. Definitely interesting, but nothing memorable. They like to play with the food, but nothing was really executed in a manner that made me want to come back. Good to try once, but that’s it.

The food was delicious. The service was ok! Portions of the food isn’t that big. The place was packed and they were able to keep up with the orders coming out really quickly. The server could’ve checked up on us to see if we wanted to order more, but didn’t. Only came once to refill our water. Server talked too fast for us to understand and the place was so loud. You can barely hear the server and can’t have a conversation without shouting. Not ideal for a family setting to eat and talk.

I FINALLY got to try Purple Pig and I was definitely not disappointed. It's been recommended to me for years and I'm so glad I was able to have lunch with a friend here a while back. The food was great, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the service was impeccable. Their bone marrow was absolutely delicious as well as their pasta with bolognese. The burrata was also very good, as well as their lattes. The restaurant is inside of larger building so you have to go through a lobby to get there, but it's not hard to find. It can fill up quickly so definitely make sure to get a reservation!

I think this is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. I recommend the bone marrow to literally everyone - it’s genius. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad dish here. They have such creativity and flavor in every plate. The service is always great. Desserts are wonderful, the cheese plates are wonderful, you really can’t go wrong.

Very delicious restaurant. We sat at the kitchen counter and saw the cooks which was a fun experience. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We ordered mussels, pork ribs, and a goat cheese salad. Every item was delicious in it's own way. If recommend everyone getting some of those ribs! We will definitely make sure to come back here in the near future!

Coming to Chicago for a conference, there are two must try places I kept getting recommend: The Purple Pig and Girl and the Goat. Thankfully I got to try both an the accolades are well deserved. I came at lunch time and Booked a same day reservation online. Started off with the butternut squash and mushroom three ways appetizer. Both really highlighted the means sake of their dish with interesting textures and flavors. My absolute favorite was the pig ears though. As daunting as it sounds, it's kind of like a chicharron. They cut up the pickier and fry them so they're crispy like a chip. The pig ears are also served with crispy kale and something pickled. That tied with a creaminess of the fried egg really balanced out everything. The pastas we got were like one large ravioli each. I felt like the apps were more worth it. Bread pudding was very memorable. It's hard to find a great bread pudding nowadays but this one was perfectly custard yet fluffy. It was paired with a delicious apple sauce and a great way to end the meal even though I was absolutely stuffed at this point.

Went for the first time and went back the next day! The whipped feta was amazing with heaps of cheese for the delicious oiled up bread. The pastas were oozy and flavorful, though smaller portions than the average restaurant. The pork we got was tender and delicious. Drinks were on par with other places in the city. We enjoyed that the menu items had wine recommendations we could follow. Jaime was a fantastic bartender - very attentive and provided recommendations. The table staff was impeccable at replacing and removing plates and refilling water!

Highlights: Rustic, Rich flavors, Quasi-tapas, meat forward, vegetarian accesible menu Came here with a friend and enjoyed the offerings. Flavors were bold and rich. Cuisine leans more towards marinated, aged, salty, and fatty flavor profiles. Plates are medium to small size. Ordered 4 plates for 2 people and was satisfied but portions were not excessive. All menu items come with suggested wine pairings. Service was excellent, very attentive staff. My friend is vegetarian and we had no difficulty finding vegetarian options. Although vegan is a tough sell at this establishment. Plating is well done. Would recommend reservation as the place was very busy. A little difficult to find from the street, so unlikely to stumble upon. Overall great experience, would recommend.

Brought some friends of mine to The Purple Pig and overall the experience was great. Food came out nice and quick, waiters were friendly and the food was delicious. For the price it was well worth it but it wasn’t a 5 star experience for me as I don’t feel the price was reflected in the portion sizes. I was left hungry and didn’t want to spend more.

What’s more to say that hasn’t already been said about the Purple Pig? James Beard award winning chef, Bib Gourmand Recognition, numerous wine and culinary awards. Needless to say, it’s highly recommended. We were fortunate to have Herbie as our server and he was just excellent with his service and recommendations. He paced our meal perfectly and we never felt rushed. He is just one example of the many talents on display there. Reservations are recommended but walk ins are possible for seats at the bar. Wherever you end up sitting, you will be in store for a fantastic meal!

We came here for lunch right when they opened at 11am and got seated as walk-ins. The interior of the restaurant had a lovely modern finish, and the service was insanely quick and attentive. We ordered the pork belly and the milk braised pork shoulder. Both dishes were beautifully plated and tasted incredibly delicious. Of the two dishes we ordered, we enjoyed the flavor of the pork belly more with its unique ginger glaze, but the texture of the pork shoulder was so soft and tender that it simply melted in your mouth. We had a wonderful experience, and we will definitely return and try other dishes as well!

3.5/5 Beautiful restaurant on magnificent mile, quite spacious and has the perfect ambiance for brunch. Food tasted alright but I expected better for the price. We tried the Spanish octopus, halibut, beef short ribs and the ricotta and chocolate chip tart. The octopus and ricotta chocolate chip tart were my personal favourites. We were pretty disappointed with the service though. Our server kept disappearing and they kept us waiting a while when we asked for the bill.

The food was par excellence, with wonderful presentation to boot. The drinks were also well made. The duck was a personal highlight. As one might expect for a restaurant of this style, the prices are high and the portions are small, but it's worth the experience on a special occasion.

I was blown away by the creative ingredients the chef used in every dish, I love all the dishes we ordered, scallops & Pork Shoulder & octopus. Service is super friendly. Vibe is awesome. We randomly walked in around 3 PM on a Tuesday, and they were almost packed. Highly recommend.

Used come here more often when it was on the other side. Some of my favorite dishes were no longer there (razor clam), but I got to try new items, and they were just as good, entire meal, and the wine choice was superb. Squid ink pasta was gorgeous. The sauce was well emulsified, and the perfect amount was with each bite. Pork blade steak was something new, it was sweet and juicy. I didn't really care for the red sauce, barely touched it. I'm so glad I got to eat here again in a while during my short return to Chicago!

We were on a day trip in Chicago and at the last minute decided to attempt a visit to The Purple Pig. Open seating was sparse at the tables but the bar had room. The two bartenders were excellent. They didn't miss a thing. Dirty dishes vanished and drinks stayed full. The cocktails were also made well but the menu options were a tad uninspiring. The menu seemed a bit sporadic at time, but everything we ordered was amazing. We tried the bone marrow spread, Spanish Octopus, pork belly, and the chocolate espresso cheesecake. The entire meal was amazing, but the pork belly was on a different level. The pork and carrots were tossed in a ginger glaze that the Greek gods day dream of. The pork melted in your mouth. This dish should have poems and songs written about it. Overall, the experience was amazing. I felt like the value of the meal and quality of service was worth the price. For once, all of the hype about a restaurant was well deserved.

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! Was in Chicago for a little and came here based on a friend’s recommendation. The wait (without a reservation) was shorter than expected. The service was OUTSTANDING! We had 2 people with allergies and the server was so knowledgeable about every ingredient in every dish. Her recommendations were perfect. We had the fig dip, bread, gnocchi and a couple other dishes. All 10/10. Will be returning next time I’m in town for sure!

Lovely restaurant with delicious food. I loved how each item in the menu had a recommended wine pairing guideline. The Crispy Pigs Ear is an absolute must. The kale was perfectly flaky and crispy. **tip: ask for less salt as it was slightly on the saltier side** Mushrooms 3 Ways was amazing too. If you love mushrooms, this dish will not disappoint!! However, the Pork Shoulder was quite disappointing. I think the first two dishes definitely increased our expectations but the pork shoulder just missed the mark all together. We got a pork dish because of the name of the restaurant… but it was just underwhelming. The meat was very salty and it wasn’t warm for every bite. But other than that, we had a lovely time and the other two dishes really made up for it.

Listen, the food is pretty fantastic. We had the beef tartar, fried mozzarella, pork belly, and pork ribs - all were exceptional with unique flavors and unexpected twists. But the overall dining experience is pretty bad. The tables are too close together, the music is very loud, and the service was meh. This restaurant would be so much better if it was in a different location. If you can put all of that aside, go enjoy the food. Just don’t expect the whole package.

My wife and I celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary here on 12/9/23. Everything about it was perfect. I had let them know in the reservation about the occasion. When we arrived they congratulated us. We were given a small complimentary Prosecco for celebration and a dessert to split at the end. We ordered four meals to split. The bone marrow was out of this world good, the duck croquettes were excellent, the octopus was very good, and the shoulder was more than we could have expected. Everything was exploding with flavor. Our waiter was great. While the place is high end for food, it is a more relax environment. I appreciated that it did not have the Steak House vibe. It is also at a great location. We were very impressed and look forward to our next visit. They also had a great wine menu and their cocktails were great.

Not your usual Mediterranean place. The Purple Pig is a James Beard Award-winning restaurant! All the dishes were flavorful and filling. Our waitress was very helpful with meal selection. The place has plenty of vegetarian options, although the restaurant’s name will tell you what they specialize in. The dishes were enjoyed by all of us, and I was pleasantly surprised by the fine food, excellent service, diverse crowd, and fine ambiance of Chicago in the restaurant. With unique takes on common dishes, it will definitely surprise you with food presentation. Please check out the pictures associated with this review and follow on Insta @ifooditie

A must have place in Chicago for sure. It’s one of my fave restaurants in Chicago and I always stop by when I visit. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The highlights for me would definitely be all the smears, house made ravioli and octopus.

I stopped by here on a trip to Chicago. I’ve heard good things about about the food so I thought I would give it a try. I was traveling alone so I sat at the bar. The service at the bar was informative but very impersonal. My server was clearly going through the motions. Anytime a server is unenthusiastic and tells me what the “best sellers” are I’m underwhelmed by them at best. So, this contributed to the 4 star rating. I love a good GSM wine so I ordered the one option they had on the menu and it was pretty decent. As for the food, I went with the pork shoulder (a best seller as stated by my server ) and was satisfied with the flavor and how it was prepared. It was very tender and barely needed a knife to cut through it. It was served with some very creamy mashed potatoes and some crunchy bits on top. It was a little salty for my taste (another reason for the 4 stars) but when I paired it with my wine it was SO MUCH BETTER. The wine really made the difference and made it a really tasty meal, I recommend the pairing (FYI, I included a pic in the review). Over all I would come back and try some other options on the menu. The menu definitely had some other interesting item I would like to try.

Tried this place out of the blue and my god what an experience! Everything is delicious, just order anything with your eyes closed. The service is great, but food is just too good. Definitely coming back for more! Get the Pork Belly!! Update: went back 2nd time and did not have the same experience 😖. Waiter was okay and not detailed. We tried other options on the menu, except bone marrow spread, everything was a little subpar. Bread was not soft, meats outside of pork may not be a good fit. Still would say worth a visit. But stick to pork entrees and vegetable apps.

Quite a pretentious place, with a pretense of haute cuisine. The service is top notch, although there was an unpleasant moment when, with an existing table reservation for 2 people, it turned out to be a problem to seat another one (despite the fact that all tables are designed for 4 people). However, with the help of managers, the problem was solved. Number of dishes is very complex, with complex sauces, etc., but nevertheless, the whole impression is good.

For real this is the best restaurant in Chicago. I really love going there every time I’m in the city. They have a good variety of food and in drinks Everything is delicious I recommend doing a reservation before going there because it can get crowded. I had an issue the last time I was there; I made a reservation, got a confirmation by text but when I arrived it wasn’t there. I waited around 2 hours for them to let us in, we were a party of 7, and they told us it was already time for them to close. After talking to the manager and explaining the situation they let us in.

Incredible upscale bistro adding to the magnificence of Michigan ave. Wonderful ambiance, open kitchen, incredible menu (we went with pappardele, chitarra, pork shank, and salmon all were divine, as were the pig ear appetizer). Service is outstanding, wine spirit and beer options fabulous. All in all highly recommended.

Excelente experience we went for lunch the atmosphere it’s lovely, menu options and plates are awesome and delicious. Each plate presentation it’s gorgeous. Service good, but all the time they are checking on you that some time you would like to be less ask …. And enjoy more the food and the company that answering the waitress…. But life isn’t perfect. Price it’s average for downtown Chicago. Highly recommended !!

Lunch with my 2-year-old daughter and my friend. Visiting Chicago so searched most reviewed restaurant then hit here. We didn't expect that good but reviews are real! We were lucky because we went there around 2-3 p.m. a bit off time so luckily no wait time. But the restaurant was so busy at that time too! And the food was amazing! I ordered pappardelle because of my daughter and the taste is amazing! My friend ordered a special, it looks amazing and so tasty! A big bone looks gorgeous. When we come back to Chicago next time I'll take my whole family here.

This is honestly one of my favorite restaurants in the entire world. I loved it when it was the smaller restaurant next door. I think this larger version is nice but I kind of miss the smaller spot next door! Either way the food is still fantastic and absolutely delicious!

“The Purple Pig offers an experience that tantalizes the senses, though it occasionally falls short of expectations. The mushrooms and pasta dish was a delightful symphony of flavors, each bite infused with earthy and savory notes. However, the 36-hour pork chop, while ambitious in its preparation time, regrettably did not live up to its promise. The meat lacked the anticipated tenderness and depth of flavor that one would expect from such extensive cooking. Despite this, the overall visit was pleasant, with the high points certainly outshining the lows.”

Splendid, bravo, explosive, it’s such a wonderful, memorable dining experience. The plating is amazing, so is the cooking. We order Roasted Bone Marrow, Acorn Squash, and Pork chop. Every dish exceeds our expectation. Every sauce casts a thrilling delight through our veins.

We had called in the morning to make a reservation for dinner, which was a good call because they get busy. Once we put our order in, the drinks and food came promptly. Each dish came out delicious with perfect timing, and had a perfect balance of flavor. Honestly, the “worst” thing there was the dessert we got (raspberry cheesecake) which had a lot of overwhelming flavors, but all the main appetizers/dishes we ordered: no complaints. We had a table of 5, 4 of us ordered drinks, and we had 10 dishes + 1 dessert to be full. Service was wonderful and I would definitely come back.

I had a trip to Chicago and was staying near by and thought to try this place. I had the Spanish octopus and it was one of the best things I ate in Chicago! It was so delicious, it has green beans and a citrus green sauce that really complimented the dish. The octopus was done perfectly, can’t wait to go back and have it again!

Came to try this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon, the wait was over an hour. When we got a table, we tried the pork lover pate, the grilled octopus, and the mushrooms. The pate was great, it was well flavoured, and not too heavy. The octopus was delicious, but the texture of the octopus was surprisingly mushy. The mushroom was not bad. I think it was worth the wait to come try.

One of the restaurant that you can’t miss in Chicago !! All the food and drinks pairing is gorgeous. Everything is delicious and beautiful decorated. I would recommend to try both tuna and beef tartare, it was very mild and good starters. For the main course, I would recommend you to try duck, since it was a bit rare to find a good duck cooking restaurant in USA. Additionally, dessert and wine was also good to try.

Awesome restaurant and experience. The Purple Pig has become a favorite after only one visit! Creative menu with dishes that come out sequentially for sharing. From the Ceasars salad with bacon to the pork blade steak we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I messed up the reservation but they were able to seat us immediately at the bar which was a treat because we were able to watch the dynamics of the kitchen in action. Highly recommend.

I heard a lot about this place, it was a first time we visited this restaurant. The food was inventive and very flavorful, but a bit heavy on the butter. Bone marrow was tasty. Liked pork ribs which was melt in your mouth. Great ambience and service. Our waiter was very pleasant.

This place holds amazing memories for myself and colleen. They had a former spot across where ether were from and the kitchen was so small that the line cooks had to duck dodge and dive to make the magic happen. It was like poetry in motion. So years later we join them again and they still have a small kitchen, but enough space that they don't have to dip dodge, and dive.. if you are ever in chi town, I recommend this place wholeheartedly. This was fantastic

The bone marrow was terrific. That mix of fat, acid, and freshness of the salad on top of the crunchy bread was spot on. The octopus was also nicely done. Good char and citrus mixed with pesto was 👌🏼

Delicious experience at the purple pig, tried the crispy pig ears for the first time and it was the best! The pork chop was cooked to perfection and the octopus dish was so flavorful. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely a must try if in Chicago. 🥰

We visited The Purple Pig after reading amazing reviews online. Would it stand up to the hype? The menu is based on a Mediterranean small plates concept, very similar to tapas. With so many items it was hard to choose what to have, but we started off with the Gnocchi and Buratta. Both were beautifully presented, and the Gnocchi was by far the best I’d ever eaten, very light, fluffy and beautifully crisp. For the next round, we enjoyed a Turkey Leg and Pork Chop. Again, both were sublime, but the Turkey Leg was absolutely sensational. I ordered it with slight trepidation, as Turkey can be quite dry and bland from my experience, but this was Turkey – next level. It was so moist, flavoursome, and delicious, words don’t do it justice. The cocktails and drinks we ordered were great too, and the service was both attentive and friendly. We spoke with the waiter about our meal and he was clearly very passionate about it. All in all, it was a sublime evening out, and it’s certainly worth adding this to your must visit list if heading to Chicago.

I try to come back here every time I visit and it's one of my favorite places. Everything is so well done and absolutely delicious. You almost can't go wrong with literally anything on the menu. Walk ins for 2 aren't too hard to get but I'd recommend a reservation if you want to guarantee you don't have to wait long. This most recent time I went the ravioletto was PERFECT and my favorite thing I've eaten in a while. Just really good soft pasta with a nice molten gooey cheese. Make sure to take your typical cheese ooze video when you first cut into it. Food: 10/10 Service: 8/10 Atmosphere: 6/10 Value: 6/10

Honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to!! My partner and I had a Sunday lunch there and really enjoyed the meals and cocktails. The Grilled Octopus and Seafood Risotto were both FANTASTIC! Potato Croquettes and Chicken Thigh Kebabs are also really good. Will be certainly back here next time we are in Chicago, highly recommended!!

Food Share one entree with 2 people. Entree size is huge. The appetizer we ordered, pig's ear, was not good at all. But the duck and beef entree was good. Drinks are pretty good too. Atmosphere/Service Atmosphere was great, service was moderately fast. I told them that it was my partner's birthday and they gave us a free dessert with candles on. I appreciate that. Parking was a problem until I figured out that there are paid parking on the street below.

This was an excellent choice for a coworker and I. We would completely come again to try more things on the menu. Excellent by glass wine menu. Bone marrow is well executed. Beets as the salad dish complemented well by the pistachios and goat cheese foam. The octopus with grilled vegetables was very well done. Foodies will be very at home here. We got chef bar seating and were fascinated what the cooks were making.
