Horrible waiter. Bizarre interaction. Tried to guilt me and my friend for not ordering enough food to make it worth his while. We ordered two large beers and two pretzels yet he scolded us for not ordering dinner. Made us feel we were taking up valuable “real estate” in the restaurant but then realized there were multiple empty tables. Awful experience with this particular waiter.

The spot is such a wonderful place to be. It's very comfortable and lovely and the staff is absolutely amazing. Excellent service. The only thing that didn't quite meet expectations was the food. The price is a bit higher but I was thinking that the food would then be a bit yummier. We had the crab dip, the pretzel, and the pork schnitzel. The drinks were very good though.

Funkenhausen came recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The menu is rather abbreviated but the selections do not disappoint. I like that it’s not overflowing with choice. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the pretzel, brat, and spätzle for appetizers and then I had the chicken schnitzel as an entree. Dinner portions were definitely adequate. The atmosphere is really chique with some German props in good taste placed through the restaurant. Five stars in my book!

COVID-19 delivery. Pretzels, schnitzel, bratwurst, potato salad, all the delicious German good one could want. It all arrived hot and was delicious.

This place has a great soundtrack. I love the mix of their fun atmosphere with decadent menu items. We started with the broccolini and oysters, then moved to a full slab of ribs with white bbq sauce, and ended with desserts. Whenever I ordered a beer, the server asked if I "just wanted the 16oz", because that's their smallest serving. In proper German tradition, they also had a stein or a boot of beer available. Service was friendly and attentive, with other staff glad to jump in to grab anything we needed, and our desserts brought out by someone from the kitchen even.

The services were fantastic! The staffs there were kind and attentive! The portion per dish was light, so you may want to order more dishes. Not a single complaint about the restaurant. A restaurant I would probably revisit!

Had a great experience here for brunch. Service was good, great decor, and good beer selections. I’d highly recommend the “oma’s breakfast” - it was a great sampler of what they had to offer. 10/10. The Schnitz and Grits was flavorful and good, but the breading on the meat was soggy, even in areas without the gravy. 6/10. The donut was great and fit for sharing. The cherries on top added a great touch of tart. 9/10. I definitely want to come back and try dinner - hopefully the schnitzel I had was just a bad batch.

German and soul food is a rare combination but when done right it creates a unique experience. A michelin bib-gourmand and a recommendation from a co-worker, Funkenhausen was a pretty easy choice for our office group get together party. Our large group of 10 was looked after really well and the management was very accommodating of our last minute requests with reservation time and party size changes. We sat right by the open kitchen watching the experts exhibit their culinary skills. Food was delectable and we loved the stories of the recipes and the details of the preparation enunciated gracefully by our server. Beer selection lived up to the expectation and overall we had a really good time.

Overall cool vibes - great atmosphere and great music in the evening. Great service- Mari was awesome handling our reservation and greeting us. I felt very welcome and it was quite the hospitable place. Service was quick even during busy Saturday night during Restaurant Week. The food was incredible! I look forward to coming back and trying more menu items. Recommend: German pretzel, Slated Caramel dessert, Crab toast, Raclette, Knachwurst, Spaetzle caccio e pepe, and of course das Boots of bier. Enjoyed the Sunni Kolsh and the Shnitzengiggles hehe Definitely check this place out!!!

Overpriced for a mediocre meal. An $85 steak shouldn't be over cooked or undersized. Artificial bacon bits should be saved for cafeteria salads not $20 oysters. When I mentioned dissatisfied the manager offered a round of shots. This is a bar, not the upscale dinning experience you're paying for.

I’ve had this spot bookmarked for a while and finally made it for dinner. My only regret is not going sooner! Tried the oysters, beef croquettes, schnitzel, and cacio e Pepe and all were excellent. Also liked the decor/ design aesthetic very cozy and modern! Will def be back for brunch sometime.

Great German food with a slightly American twist. I ordered family style and had plenty of food, all of it delicious. Our waiter was amazing and the food was served promptly. My only complaint was that the music was a little loud.

Reserved a table on Open Table on a Saturday morning at 10:30am. I wouldn't be worried about doing a walk in because it's a spacious place so there wouldn't be much of a wait. Interior is beautiful! Got the Schnitz and Gritz, Dad's Crepes, and Oma's Breakfast. Everything was pretty good. Wouldn't say any of it was amazing, but it did the job in a nice environment. It's also next door to Beatnik. Fun Fact. Might come back for dinner because I've heard the Dinner menu is much better than the Brunch one. So fingers crossed

Food is great, some of the best I've had in the city. Portions are on the smaller end, the dishes are designed to be shared amongst the table. My partner and I had 3 appetizers, one main course. High recommend the slow roasted sweet potato.

Very good experience but $$$. Small portions vs price is nice occasionally but not worth it for me on the norm.

Not only does this place have great food, drinks and ambiance… but John is my favorite server of all time, maybe person of all time. We live really close, and is always a good spot for date night or when guests come to visit. Masks are optional if you’re vaccinated. Faves include: the chicken, the ribs, the oysters and obviously the beer. Go say hi to John!

We went for NYE after seeing a few posts about their celebration. We booked a late dinner so we could enjoy the countdown at the restaurant. The first server was lovely but her shift was about to end. From that point on, we were constantly being rushed and it was made clear that we weren’t welcome to stay. They were literally putting chairs up around us before we were served our food. They also let us know that it was too late for dessert. The food was good but we didn’t have time to enjoy it. We wouldn’t have expected to stay if it hadn’t been so heavily advertised and the attitude of the staff left me feeling sour towards a restaurant I’d hoped to frequent - especially since we live in the neighborhood.

Amazing food. We ordered a bunch of small plates to share and every dish was creative and absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try other things off the menu.

The food here is delicious! Also everyone I encountered, the staff, the waiters were all so nice and welcoming. I especially love the ribs in the white bbq sauce! Then ordering the fries as a side is great also. The peel and eat shrimp was also very tasty. The desserts have been so good too. The German -Southern mash-up cuisine is very cool. The food is familiar enough where you know what you're getting, but also unique enough where it's exciting to try their creations. I really hope everyone checks out this place. To me, it's a hidden gem. The restaurant is also decorated very nicely. I love the light fixtures, the bar, and the decorations, but you don't feel like it's overly fancy. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and hope it stays open for a very long time. It could be a fun place to take your family or go on a fun date night.
