Simple menu, delicious steak! Affordable and super innovative cocktails. Don’t forget to eat the mushrooms they have as a side! They are delicious

Ate here twice while staying at the Julian. The food was very good, though my rib eye cut wasn't the best (it certainly wasn't a terrible cut), it was cooked well and very tasty. The side dishes were good. The second night I got the Beef Wellington, which was also good. The mashed potatoes are a little too buttery for my taste, but the sauteed mushrooms were very good. Service was excellent. They get 4 out of five stars because of the few small things I mentioned, but still very good.

Caesar salad was 4 romaine leaves, 3 halves of cherry tomatoes, and some parmesan. Tandoori chicken came on the bone, but in a shaky bowl with sides too high to cut the meat off the bone for some reason. Just a weird food experience. Probably fine if you want to have a cocktail alone.

This place was great! It has an awesome location. Right on Michigan avenue. It's the restaurant to the Hotel Julian. Our bartender Yoli was wonderful . We really enjoyed our time. Will definitely come back. We only had drinks but they also served food. they also have charge outlets at the bar!

My husband and I were out for cocktails and decided to grab a bite to eat. I will start by saying we dined during restaurant week and our server was Clara. The first strike was seating us all the way in the back by the kitchen. Unfortunately, our server seemed preoccupied with who know what, the restaurant wasn't busy enough for the staff to have an underlining confusion of how to operate this restaurant. We were served other patrons food, the bills were confused. I had to hunt down a server to fill my water, which never happened by the way. The entire dining experience was depressing. The food is mediocre at best. I ordered the salmon and my husband ordered the pesto pasta. Both were completely bland. The chocolate cake was laughable. The creme Brule wasn't any better. You can taste the torch and it taste like gasoline. I'm extremely disappointed in how I was treated at this establishment. Waitng 20 minutes for water is just wrong. Please do better. This was ridiculous!!

I tasted the Acai bowl and the Salmon Benedict. Both were life changing flavor's. Great ambience, and classy service. I will be back! My only complaint is no reference to my wifes favorite 80's movie. But "Yeah, I understand!"

Wife and I stayed at Hotel Julien and grabbed ALK to go. Lamb lollipops and the Wellington were both excellent. Honestly much better than we anticipated. Serving sizes were large for a very fair price, especially for a place off Michigan Ave. We will definitely be back and likely dine in next time.

I never leave a review no matter how bad the restaurant was, however my experience here was the worst ever. Went here for Valentine with my husband, the service was terrible. They poured us a drink and mine has some brown stick in it which i had to send back. The manager sent it back and was hesitant to pour me a new drink. They already had a set menu for valentine and the options weren't nice. They were slow in bringing out the plates for each course. The meals weren't any better, just fair and unimpressive. We had Beef Wellington & Blackened Salmon and neither of them came with any sides. Overall I would rate the food 2 out of 5. Finally for the bill, they snuck in a $32 service fee which was never mentioned prior to visiting the restaurant. Overall, i did not enjoy my experience here and would not be back or recommend to friends or family.

Trendy atmosphere and excellent food. The ribeye and brussel sprouts were excellent. Happy hour had some nice deals. Make reservations. It was full on a weeknight, but for good reason.

Make the stop and see Yolanda at the bar. Not only will see you serve you an amazing drink, but she can tell you the history of it. Yolanda will add value to your experience in your dining. Now, let's talk about the food! Amazing and so good. The chef's are amazing and only put out quality. This place is a must. Bring your friends and come here.

My best friend and I came in for a show on Nov 15-16th. We were staying in Hotel Julian for the first time and we just loved our experience. While of course Chicago is pricy (DUH) the food was amazing, great atmosphere and we just LOVED meeting our bartender, William and our server during breakfast, Rhema!!! They were so inviting and showed us nothing but love and attention. it was such a great time and great people. We are definitely going to be returning! Thanks for such a great experience!

The service was good, and I wanted to like it but... The food really was not good. We had dinner, that at least was mediocre, though extremely overpriced. Desperate for time the next morning we tried the breakfast... Stodgy and stale pancakes that didn't hold a candle to the ones at Benigens. And the bacon I couldn't even eat. I'm sorry, but save your money!

I had the blackened salmon. It was amazing. But the beet salad was to die for! A lil' Rose' finished off by birthday dinner nicely.

Food was tasty, Kyle was right about the ribeye sandwich being delicious. Wife loved the apricot salad. Would go back again.

I had a lunch and brunch at this cafe/bar on Michigan Ave not far from Millennium Park. The garlic sauce Caesar Salad with salmon was quite tasty but very light on everything except the huge amount of lettuce. May not suit a big person with a big appetite. I still enjoyed it and went back for buttermilk pancakes and hot chocolate the day before the marathon. Again quite tasty. Staff were pleasant. There is both indoor and outdoor seating

Menu very limited $45+ steak comes with no sides steak was ok i make better at home. Burger we cold and didn't have any flavor my favorite part of my dish was my French fries. They forgot about my salad gave it to me after I got my mains. Never filled my cup of water had to drink my dates. Did not ask if I wanted dessert just brought my check. Had a $75 service charge added on my bill. I went there for the Menu didn't realize the menu I saw on line was 4 years old when we sat down our whole party was so disappointed. I would say this restaurant is basically a bar that has basic steak with cold burgers and delivers your salad after your main meal. Lets just say for a $500 check we received we left hungry and disappointed. We never will be going to this restaurant again. Sadly this was our 5 year anniversary and we went to the worst place in Chicago also very not kid friendly.

Pretty decent as a bar with a good selection of drinks, but can't vouch for food. I must have visited this place three times, mostly to escape the heat and to meet with friends who used my hotel as a starting point for the day. The service was pretty poor across all three visits. On one occasion our server brought us our first round of beers and immediately brought the bill, indicating she was ready for her tip before she finished her shift. This might be normal in the US, but we found it pretty presumptive and rude. The other two visits were unimpressive too - servers either bored out of their skulls or too keen to inquire if we were happy every five minutes. Overall, though, it's exactly the kind of place you want to have on the ground floor of your hotel.

This place is a paradox. The food is great. The cocktails are phenomenal, and the staff is really pleasant, but they are SLOW!!! I have been there twice. The first time, it was really busy and there only seemed to be 1 server, so I assumed she was in the weeds and chalked it up understaffing which continues to be an issue in all industries. We returned a few days later and there were was almost no one in the restaurant. I figured this would be perfect. Had the same pleasant server with the same gorgeous smile. The same delicious cocktails and food. And it was still really slow. It has to be a training issue, because the staff is so nice and genuinely seems to want to provide good service. I don't think they need new servers, I think they need the train the servers they have better. When it comes to food and cocktails though ... don't change a thing.

Great food, cute space, but they are woefully understaffed. We loved every dish we tried, Brussel sprouts, salmon pasta, steak, French onion soup, asparagus, broccolini. No complaints there. The drinks were delicious when they came out. Our server was so slammed she was unable to come back to our table for almost 30 minutes. We were finally able to place a drink order and they never came.

My boyfriend and I visited ALF this weekend and I have to say this is by far the best place I have been to in Chicago. The staff is welcoming and the service was great. I am originally from the DMV so you know I expect quick service . They did the job. I was greeted upon arrival and catered to with the upmost respect. If you are looking for a great restaurant with great drinks and a wonderful staff come here!!!! I 100% recommended .

I ordered the ALK burger and the waiter suggested ordering the parmesan fries. I ordered my burger cooked medium well, but it was well done and slightly dry. The fries were trash and I wish I hadn't ordered them and our waiter only checked on us twice. Once to get our order and once to bring us the check. I wouldn't recommend.

Stayed at Hotel Julain recently and went to lunch downstairs at this restaurant. Overall it was a good experience. Little on the pricey side. I went with the corned beef sandwhich (it was St. Patrick's day BTW) which was good. Bread was nice and crispy along with seasoned meet. Great tasting pickles on the sandwhich. Fries were good but had a little too much salt on them. I saw a beef Wellington on the counter when we arrived. Maybe next time we will have to try that out. Give the place a try Staff were very friendly

I want this spot to make it. Close to home, attractive spot with nice outdoor seating. I feel the server did his best, kitchen probably did their best, but the manager should have been visible, helping the staff keep up, pouring coffee, seating folks etc. Food was average, service was slow and order was incorrect. Places are under staffed but mgmt should be helping out.

My daughter & I decided to grab lunch & on their outside dining area. Great place to relax & take in the free entertainment that is Chicago. Even though the commotion on the sidewalk is something I am accustomed to experiencing when in Chicago, Ian our server was concerned & did his best to make sure we were ok. Thank you for your great service! Apricot salad & BLTA was good.

A wonderful small space with great service and food. Slightly confusing because the ALK name is nowhere to be seen, only the Julian Hotel. Nonetheless, highly recommended!

Underwhelming. I stayed at the Hotel Julian and despite many choices in the area, I opted to go with About Last Knife based on reviews. I ordered for carry out to take up to the room: 1. Crab Cakes, 2. French Fries, 3. spring salad. The spring salad was the best of it but still less than amazing. The greens were wilted and weighed down, but flavors were good. The crab cakes were soggy. And for the fries to be a stand alone app featuring a “ABK seasoning” they seemed like frozen fries with little seasoning at all. I was told that I would be called when the food was ready for pick up but decided to check in sooner - it was ready and the host said “oh I was just going to call”. I am not sure how long it was there waiting which could possibly account for how wilted and weighed down the salad was and how soggy the crab cakes were, but hard to know either way. For the price and reviews, I would have expected better. Spent $53 after tax and tip on a mediocre carry out meal.

The food here is really good (I had the beef wellington and mashed potatoes) and the cocktails are really good too. I liked the Model Diet (a combo of vodka, blueberry-infused St. Germaine and lemon juice) the most, but the wine lost is decent too. It is a bit overpriced as all hotel restaurants are, but not terribly so. It was a nice spot to unwind after flying into town.

Happy hour review. Bartenders and servers are very friendly. Good music and good vibe. Lively but not obnoxious. Great people watching out the front windows. Prosecco was good quality and $6. Hummus was good but tiny for $5. Will prob be back for the steak sliders. Overall, good value.

We ate here when staying at the hotel next door. Had a wellington and a hanger steak which were both fantastic. The fries were also great and I can’t get over how nice the collard greens side was. The staff were really friendly also. I do get what others are saying about the size of the drinks. My wife wanted a shot of rum with a tall mixer, but they said they only had small glasses.

This place fell COMPLETELY OFF! Last year they left a lasting impression on me. Now I WILL NEVERRRRRR go back. All I will say is don’t waste your time or money. Only gave 3 stars because the manager fake tried to make the situation better by comping the food. But I DO NOT LIKE THE WAY HE SPOKE TO ME.

My boyfriend and I went this past weekend just for our usual dining out date night and it definitely met our expectations and beyond. The salmon was amazing, the sauce they use to put on top was just wow. Our waiter at the end who brought us our check was amazing. We requested the bread pudding for dessert but asked to add ice cream and caramel drizzle on top and he did the whole thing and it was amazing!!! Definitely recommend asking for bread pudding and ice cream and drizzle! Definitely coming back for that. Best bread pudding ever. Cannot remember the waiter but he was incredibly sweet and so accommodating and even said he is going to recommend the bread pudding that way now, thought it was great! Overall great. It’s hidden away in Hotel Julian. Can’t wait to have the bread pudding again!

Stopped in for happy hour. Our waitress was very nice. Had a glass of prosecco, sliders, olives, grilled cheese. Everything was tasty and it's a cool space, love the brick painting and looking out onto Michigan Ave. Will return.
