This place is so cool. Felt like I was at a dance club with an onsite DJ on a Saturday afternoon!! Jamming to great tunes while enjoying a very trendy atmosphere and cool authentic decor. We had a brunch menu but ordered chips and 3 salsas of which my favorite was the avocado salsa verde. We also enjoyed delicious packed nachos and a very large taco salad. We wanted to enjoy the outdoors but definitely enjoyed the indoor dance party.

some of the best Mexican food in Chicago. Everything was delicious, steak tacos and chicken nachos were great and delicious. Food was served fast. Guacamole 🥑 was great too. We only had to wait 20 minutes to get a table on a Saturday night without previous reservation, which was nice. And outside seating area was nice! Great for people watching and beautiful around sunset 🌇 time of the day. Service was nice and friendly. Indoors might be a little bit louder , but this is kind of a party place with dance music playing, so just be ready for that. Overall great experience

This was our first visit here and we went for brunch. To begin with, all the food I had tasted incredible. Also, the presentation of the food was great. Lastly, the customer service was some of the best I've had! She was very attentive and friendly. Overall, I will be visiting again! Photos below: 1. New York strip steak & eggs 2. Cinnamon churro bites 3. Inside view 4. Outside view

The food at Barrio was absolutely amazing! The portions were huge and everything was tasty. You HAVE to try the churro breakfast sandwich, but I honestly couldn't pick a favorite dish and I tried quite a few. Our server Christian was excellent! He was funny and extremely attentive. The manager Doug was also great. 10/10 experience. I'll definitely be back.

The atmosphere is amazing here, super cozy. The chips and salsa was wonderful. We tried the mango, avocado, and jalapeño. They were all fabulous and had a good spicy kick to them. We had spicy skinny margaritas, also delicious. And I got the short rib tacos, with flour tortillas. Overall the food was fantastic, I would highly recommend for some quality food.

Our reservation at another spot got cancelled so we switched it up and tried Barrio and I'm glad we did. The atmosphere is on the dim side but I've always been a fan of that so it was great to me. The food was delicious, in particular the lobster quesadilla was phenomenal. I had the roja enchiladas and the sauce was so good. The rest of my group tried all their different tacos and loved them all. Cocktails they made were also very well done. Only issue was we ordered the tableside guac and instead they brought us their more standard guacamole. Still tasty but a bit disappointing that they didn't follow what we asked for. Regardless would definitely go back if craving Mexican food.

Perfect place for a date night. Great lounge style atmosphere, good music. Lots of ppl on weekends so make reservations. It's loud but part of the vibe. I've been coming for years, the steak fajitas are excellent.

What an amazing place! Probably the best Mexican food that i’ve had in chicago! Great staff, nice , kind and fast service! No wait to get a seat at the bar. As to tables- usually 30 minutes waiting time. So recommend booking in advance. Nachos is a must have. As to the breakfast menu - omelettes and sunny side up options are the best!

Enjoyed a nice birthday brunch with my girlfriends. The ambience was great, Latin music in the background. We ordered bottomless mimosas, which tasted good & the price was not bad at all ($35/person). However, they were not as quick to refill the glasses, we had to constantly try to get our waitresses attention to get them refilled. The food was great, I ordered chilaquiles with over easy eggs (picture shown), not spicy, could have added more sauce, but overall tasty. As a birthday treat (which was included on the bill, not on the house) was DELICIOUS, loved that it had fresh bananas & strawberries with different flavor cake pieces, ice cream, & topped off with caramel & chocolate syrup. Overall, I will visit again.

I came here for restaurant week with a friend, and the food did not disappoint. Our server, Peyton (I believe that was her name), was so helpful and knowledgeable. My friend is a vegetarian, so she suggested accommodations for certain menu items! The cocktails we ordered were delicious (mezcal margarita with watermelon), and the food was so good as well. We definitely left super full!

Happy hour deals are pretty good, we got one of every taco for taco Tuesday, and three fried shrimp tacos that's not on taco Tuesday menu. The shrimp ones are good but I wish they have more sauce in those. The corn guac is really good, the corn is fresh and sweet. Would definitely come back again.

Dropped by on a late Saturday night after broadway show. Barrio was walking distance & open late which made it convenient. Staff was great & we were seated right away. Food was amazing! We had the duck tacos & shrimp tacos. Duck tacos were my favorite! Would recommend those. The cornbread was also really good! Will definitely be back for some more tacos in future!

Stopped here after walking miles and miles around this beautiful city. The service was good, the cocktails were on point and overall the food was really enjoyable and not too heavy. Sat outside and listened to the sounds of the city. I would recommend and revisit.

It’s one of the unique places in Chicago to have a patio. The place is well decorated and the host was quick to seat us. The server was prompt to take our order. The food is delicious! It came out quick and was warm! The pancakes are second to none (only many bongo room). The prices are also reasonable for a place of this calibre. I would highly recommend this place and would come here again.

I came for restaurant week & it didn't disappoint! Great atmosphere, flavorful food, good service but a smidge slow. They appeared understaffed which is the standard now. Sole complaint is that the chicken tortilla soup was cold. I sent it back and the replacement was also cool. Maybe it is served cool vs hot, like gazpacho but overall good flavor.

We had dinner at Barrio to celebrate my nephew’s bday. It was a lot of fun! My nephew loves Mexican food and Barrio worked out really well! He ordered the octopus tacos and we had the vegetarian jackfruit tacos and enchiladas in mole sauce. We enjoyed the food in a relaxed atmosphere. They do have booths but also High top tables. Great Mexican fare ; we got the Barrio Nachos and salsa trio - our favorite was the mango and cucumber. It was our first time having a chocolate Tres Leche and it was divine ! Our server was very nice and the service was good ! Check it out if you are looking for a new place for Mexican food.

We booked an early (5:15pm) table and sat on the patio. We ordered a taco salad, two tuna ceviche tacos and the happy hour guacamole. The food was mediocre at best and didn't live up to the promises in the menu. The guacamole was quite tasty and came with a large portion of chips. No complaints there. The salad was supposed to be kale and cabbage with romaine but there was no kale or cabbage to be seen and the lettuce was pretty wilted. Definitely not worth the $16 price tag. The tuna tacos were ok. Not bad but small and uninspired. Service was good.

We absolutely loved Takos. We ordered different Tacos and they were all excellent. Tequila was also great. A very pleasant place, and assistant Ashley was courteous and simply gorgeous. I strongly recommend to all lovers of Mexican cuisine

I just had my birthday here and the food, drinks, service and atmosphere was amazing! My server Payton was super nice! Her recommendations on the drinks and food for my husband and I was on point! We had the pleasure to meet one of the managers Chris who reassured occasionally if things were going well and if we needed anything. The music was also a nice finishing touch and how ironic was my birthday on a “TACO TUESDAY” night! I highly recommend this place. I know I will be back!

I've been wanting to come here for the longest so i came for my birthday on a Wednesday. The service was sooooo slow and the food was eh. My shrimp tacos had two shrimps in each taco. It was pathetic. We made fun of the place the whole time we were there. It's cute in the inside and the waiter was nice, but this is Chicago, there are plenty of great places to eat... this is NOT one of them.

This place is pricey, but well worth it. The salsa was amazing. The cornbread was out of this world. Waitress was incredibly nice, knowledgeable and helpful. Outside eatery was beautiful. Bathrooms are super nice. My boyfriend got the octopus tacos and loved them. I got the fried rice and it was so good and unique. You won’t be disappointed with this restaurant

Will always go to this place whenever I come to Chicago. Best margaritas I have ever had. There was just something different in them. Not too sweet like in most places. We had chicken pastor tacos and skirt tacos and both plates were amazing. Service was very good and the place is just very nice, has a good vibe. Ahh and the salsa verde was INCREDIBLE!!! A must.

The place, vibe and service was great. We had dinner reservations. Food and drinks were surprisingly a little subpar. Meat was dry and drinks quality could be better. Maybe just that night. Might try again and re review.

Delicious guacamole prepared table side. About the best I’ve ever had! Margaritas were delicious as well. Food was very good - we got steak fajitas and the beef was very high quality and delicious and full of fresh delicious grilled vegetables. Prices were typical for downtown Chicago. Not a bargain, but this is Chicago and this is fine Mexican food - not Taco Bell. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel, so I can’t speak for parking. We got a very spacious rounded booth along the wall, not a table in the middle of the dining area. It was relatively quiet and very comfortable. Lovely atmosphere. They call it Modern Mexican. We did make a reservation so we were immediately seated when we walked in. I would recommend that. Truly the only complaint was the slow service. We waited for everything - more chips, to order, drinks and then more drinks, the check. We were in no particular hurry, so this wasn’t the end of the world for us, but it was annoying given how many staff were busily everywhere. And, if you ARE in a hurry, it might be more than annoying. Nevertheless, I would highly recommend.

My third time coming here & I always enjoy my time. Decided to bring my friends here for a nice Friday night and we had a ball. It was some people celebrating their birthday and were louder than anyone but other than that the food was delicious

The food here was pretty good. Came on Taco Tuesday, so they had a $5 taco mix-n-match deal which was worth the price. My favorite taco was probably the pork carnitas. Also tried the corn to share, which was alright but had a little too much sauce for me. The lavender hibiscus margarita didn’t taste like lavender or hibiscus but was a solid margarita. However, service here is ridiculously slow. The waiter took an extremely long time to come to our table just to ask for our food order. We also got the wrong taco order, asked for chicken but got the pork.

We went here tonight - I really debated on how many stars. The food and drinks were a 4 Star but the server was a 1 star. This place is pretty cool and seems to stay pretty busy. Our server, Cortez, was terrible tonight. He really didn’t pay attention to his tables. I noticed many of his tables had issues with him and his service. He could only do 1 thing at a time at a very slow pace. To bad that he ruined a fun night out for at least several tables while we were there. Like I said when I started the food and drinks are good maybe just don’t sit in Cortez’s section.

Outside patio was very nicely set-up/spaced out and charming as well. They are in desperate need of serving staff because even though there were ample tables, there wasn’t enough servers to cover them. Food was excellent and a bit pricey as well. I’d recommend having a reservation as well.

Good food. Prices are ok for the area and comparing other options. Got skirt steak tacos ($21). Our service was pretty barren. Had to prompt server for a refill and for check. Too loud. Had to raise voice to talk. Too dark. Couldn't read the menu without using a flashlight.

Barrio is all you want in a restaurant. The staff are friendly, know the menu, and will make recommendations. The food is SO delicious! I last had the shrimp tacos and I was completely sassified. Delicious. The guac is everything and the drinks hit. The decor/ambiance is fun and delivers a vibe you won't want to miss. I adore the position of the circular bar where you can see most everything. Dining outside is cool, too, weather permitting. The menu is short but delivers. Barrio is perfect for any occasion and I live for their happy hour.

  • 5/5 sara t. 2 years ago on Google
The tacos are really good . It’s really expensive though. I definitely recommend going during happy hour and ordering off of that menu. The drinks cost almost as much as the tacos do which is absurd but on par for most places in Chicago. I think they would get more taco sales if they allowed you to mix and match from the menu. You kind of have to stalk the bar for open seats or people getting ready to leave . They don’t take walk ins for table seating. Which is kind of annoying because they’re pretty much all open during the day unless there’s a reservation.

We tried the cornbread , churros and chicken (my fav) the burrito and the chicken tacos . The food was delicious, and the leftovers were too 😋 highly recommend the bottomless brunch. Staff was very friendly and accommodating as well. We were extremely late for our reservation but called and they accommodated us with no problem. Oh, reasonable prices as well, would definitely return !

(Last visited 7/25/2021.) Still in Chicago for the weekend, but sadly, it's almost over! What better way to end it than with a boozy brunch! Here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on West Kinzie Street downtown is this gem. It has such a beautiful sidewalk presence with it's big outdoor patio section and elegant entrance way. Once inside you're just immersed in higher class of décor. Things look soft, they flow well, the music is pumpin' and I just feel at home in here! We had a party of 6 (reservations are highly encouraged) and were sat in a beautiful, comfortable rounded booth that fit all of us without a problem. Service: Sydney took care of us and she was excellent. She was sweet, safe, funny and just made our experience a grand one. The mimosas never stopped flowing and we all know that's what's most important! Lol. Food: Obviously, we're here for the bottomless mimosas and they did not disappoint! They weren't super juicy and was PLENTY strong! You can also switch flavors at will! I can't remember all of the flavors, but there were at least 4 so that you don't get tired of drinking the same thing over and over! For food I went with the Mushroom & Kale Omelet, then added lobster because I'm extra. Lol. It was deliciously lobster-y, but you really can never get enough lobster. On top was a creamy sauce that complemented it well then there was a potato hash served right alongside of it. The omelet was deliciously seasoned, light and didn't have me feeling weighed down. Value: The base omelet was $15.00 which comes with the potatoes, but it's an additional $6.00 to add lobster. Y'all know how expensive lobster is, so you can imagine how much of it they gave me in the omelet. The bottomless mimosas were $30.00 a piece. That's a bit steep, but we were able to drink and drink and drink. Bring you big wallet for this place. In conclusion, if I lived in Chicago, you could find me here OFTEN. I loved everything about this place and look forward to my next visit so that I can check out another part of the menu! If you made it this far in the review, I appreciate you reading. Please do me a favor and head on over to "The Hungry Road" on YouTube and subscribe! My channel features a lot of food, car and exclusive shoe related content! Help me grow! Thank you so much!

When we went the place was pretty packed and the music was super loud, making it hard to talk at the table. The chicken fajitas were so so, but the steak quesidillas were absolutely amazing. The waitress got our order wrong and gave us the quesidillas instead of the tacos we ordered but we were happy with that mistake! Drinks were ok, nothing fantastic.

  • 1/5 Ana S. 7 months ago on Google
The food was mediocre at best. My friends ordered the steak tacos- the meat was tough to chew on and honestly it looked so burnt. I ordered the quesabirria which was not bad. The service was AWFUL. It took about an hour for the waitress to take our order. The place was not even busy so it was not a matter of being backed up. The music was awful. The music made the ambiance feel tacky. This restaurant has strong potential maybe with better management, friendlier (less racist) staff, and a competent DJ this place could earn more stars. The food was just eh but due to the awful service it made the experience not even worthwhile. If you like wasting your time AND money, please come here. :)

Edi was our server and he was the best! We really enjoyed our date night. The nachos were sooo good (chefs kiss). We ordered a mango margarita which was yumm. My husband ordered the smoke show which is something you should try as it hits all the right spots.

I will give 4 starts because as a non-Mexican comensal I not prepared to mild to hard hot food. I mentioned to the waitress and he didn’t help me on the selection. The avocado salsa verde was to hot, thanks God we got the mango ones. It was great taste. The best tacos was the pork belly without chilly. The ambient and decoration is beautiful. It’s a good option if you prefer spice than flavor.

  • 4/5 Emer A. 1 year ago on Google
The staff are nice, food was good. I gave 4stars because we received receipts that was summarized and not Itemized. For the 135ish dollars that we paid, I wanted to see the amount of per food that we ate or it was billed right and not just summary. However, I still gave them 25% tip because we liked the service and the food.

This place has a nice vibe. Food is okay. But the Fajitas are TERRIBLE. Do not order them. It’s 90% peppers that are cut HUGE with a tiny amount of protein.
