Feels like an old speakeasy. It was suggested by a bellhop at the hotel we were staying at and it definitely didn't disappoint. We went back for a total of three times on that trip to Chicago. The crust is more of a cracker crust than a doughy elbow style deep dish. The sauce was very intentionally flavored to be perfectly balanced. All toppings we had were top quality and the amount of cheese was spot on. I suggest this spot to anyone who asks. I look forward to returning.

Very good pizza! We tried deep-dish crust of Vegi. It was excellent! Kids had cheese pizza which was very good too. Nice place. So many interesting pictures around making a good atmosphere. Staff were super nice. Had a great family experience.

Great Chicago style deep dish pizza. Got an 8" personal sized with sausage and green peppers. Yummy! My husband got the 10" Chicago deep dish Meat and he said that was also amazing. Highly recommend! The group we were with also ordered fries for the table and even those were delicious - hot and crispy! Will probably return to try something else before we leave town.

This place is like the Cheers of Chicago. Stumbled upon it while waiting for a show. Great cider on tap, excellent steak Caesar salad- generous portions. Best part was an evening spent talking to José, one of the regulars. He was such a kind, generous soul. Introduced me to everyone, including the owner. This place was so busy, but everyone was kind and the service was great. Thanks for making a tourist feel like part of the family. Can’t wait to visit again- and thanks to José for the hospitality and the fantastic conversation.

Overall mid experience. Server forgot about us for awhile (understaffed) eventually our food came, cheesy garlic bread was good but my medium steak was very close to well done. I wouldn’t rush back, guess I m should’ve tried the pizza instead. Ribs were good

I like the vibe of this place, but our experience was pretty disappointing. Our server was so slow. It looked like other servers were more attentive, so maybe we just got unlucky. Chicken sandwich and fries were dry and overcooked (fries were basically burnt). The pizza was decent. Not sure I'd come back except maybe for a beer.

Went twice while in Chicago, amazing both times! The service was incredible, our waiter was very accommodating, friendly, and quick. The deep dish pizza was perfect in every way, the wings were superb in size and flavor, and even the chicken parmesan was one of the best we've had. Really nice atmosphere and not too loud compared to other restaurants & bars. Can't recommend enough!

We love this place. It's great to host big gatherings. It's a pretty big restaurant. Lots of drink options. I hAd their Cesar salad with chicken. It was delicious. He had the French onion soup. It also was delicious. The only thing that wasn't good was the ranch dressing. Friendly fast service.

Came by around 1 pm on a Tuesday and had lunch at the bar. Probably only 7 or 8 other people dinning, and they were mostly in the back. If you sit at the bar, you're right at the door, so expect a little breeze. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken, which came out to $20 before tip. It was a good size and tasted great. This is a sit-down restaurant (that also had some pick-up and delivery orders) that offers great service and friendly bartenders/waiters. I'm not coming here everyday for lunch, but it was a nice treat. I'll be back to try the ribs, which is what this place is known for

I’m not sure what the hype is about. I do NOT recommend sitting outside because the sound of the L train every 5 minutes completely obscured any conversation you can hope to have. The pizza felt severely underseasoned and service was sparse.

Very kind and welcoming staff. The service was perfect and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the French soup and the Burges it is really beyond expectations. There was even a kids party at some point, in a closed area of the pub. Which tells you how safe and how much the locals loves it. Finally after lunch I was able to sit and work for hours with no remarks from the staff. On the contrary they brought me water continuously and were super kind. I highly recommend.

Popped in for some deep dish and wasn't disappointed. Very tasty, very filling. Staff were friendly and efficient. Beer list is outstanding. A good place to drop in for a quick bite. Wasn't too busy which was nice. Recommended.

I loved this place from the second moment, at first I was thrown back by the smell of smoke which is part of the history so in 2 seconds you get used to it and then enjoy the place even more, super friendly staff and the al Capone rigatoni and the Alfredo were amazing and make sure to try the cannelloni- we were very happy and can recommend for sure

Back in Chicago from Ireland. I think I grew gills from all the fried fish I ate! It was great but I needed pizza!! The deep dish pizza here is so damn good! I had never tried it here until my partner introduced it to me about 4 months ago. I was wowed! So so good! I burned my tongue last night, of course. Can't wait to go back with my honey, but until then, I have the other half of last night's pizza waiting for me in the fridge!!

Nice well-known local establishment, dates back to Al Capone's Chicago. Great memorabilia on the walls. Stopped for a takeout pizza, that was helpful, price was okay, service good.

Delightful pub food and atmosphere. Fantastic staff. The sesame ginger wings were surprisingly good and the fried cheese curds were delicious and gooey. Our pizza was pretty decent, we ordered a crispy crust, but think that we should have gone with the thin crust. Would absolutely go again or recommend!

What an amazing experience. Our server was so nice and bubbly! They were on top of everything and it was getting busy! The food portions here are crazy, but in a good way. 😏 Delicious, loved it! Thank you again!

Possibly the worst service I have ever had. The curly haired child at the front needs to be fired for her lack of want to succeed. She is lazy and may be a little more set for success at McDonalds - especially with her smart high school attitude. Terribly lazy. I was ignored for about 20 minutes before being helped. However, when I was helped my waiter was rather kind and knowledgeable when it came to the menu. The food was good but I ate and left as fast as I could. Go elsewhere if you want some proper service along with good food.

Killer place to go while your in Chicago! First time to the city for me so obviously first for this bar and I have to say this place was amazing! Great atmosphere and all the staff were extremely friendly! Excellent food! Got a real deep dish pizza for the first time and it definitely did not disappoint! Shout out to our bartender, AP! He was a fantastic bartender! Big smiles from this guy all day! He is a very personable guy! Not once we're we harrased with nonsense rules or regulations! Walked right in and sat down! Highly highly recommend this place!

If you like old school, If you like historical, If you like dark intimate dining then this place is it folks. Speak easy vibes at its finest. This place is well known for some of the best pizza in chicago, but DO NOT sleep on the wings! The ginger sesame wings were absolutely phenomenal. I would return to eat just those and they have 4 other flavors. We also had the Deep Dish Mob pizza and it was fantastic. would recommend 10 out of 10. expect a wait during dinner hours.

Per the suggestion of a fellow colleague, I decided to make my first meal while on a business trip in Chicago to be at the Exchequer Restaurant & Pub. To be as transparent as possible, this was the best decision I could have made that day as my experience was nothing short of sublime. Upon entering, I am greeted with a warm atmosphere: mellow lighting shines off of beautiful dark wood that line the walls and bar. The aromas drifting from the kitchen are wholesome and inviting. I am then greeted by a member of their friendly staff and escorted to my table, a quiet and comfortable place to dine. After inspecting their rather delectable menu, I choose what I am craving and what my body needs after not eating for the past 12 hours: a Classic American Cheeseburger and Fries, along with their house Amber Ale. Both my drink and my entrée are brought out in more than acceptable time and fashion. The Cheeseburger was hot, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. Their house Amber Ale had a background note of sweetness to it that was pleasantly delightful. For dessert, I treated myself to their Cannoli, which came with 3 (only 2 survived to the photoshoot) and they were absolutely exquisite. I enjoyed my time at the Exchequer, and if you enjoy great food in a charming and cozy atmosphere, then you will as well. Cheers!!!

This restaurant had an intimate feeling atmosphere. It was just a touch too loud, so it was hard to keep up conversation with everyone at the table. Our server was quick when she was at our table, but she seemed to disappear for long stretches at a time. The place was busy but not overflowing. The food was delicious though. We got the fried goat cheese dip that was perfection. So creamy and salty. Just amazing. I had the steak frites with fries. My steak was cooked perfectly with a wonderful garlic butter. The fries were crispy and good. Restaurant was great. I would definitely go back again.

Wanted to try something different.... customer service wasn't that great..... The cobb salad was really fresh and good.... The other party had their wings 7 buffalo and spicy garlic parmesan... The wings were gigantic turn off.... We both had the blu cheese dressing before I could finish my salad I was heading to the restroom which didn't end there... The other party felt sick to their stomach as if they had to throw up.... Both were sick as a dog definitely would not return.....

Pizza was great! The service took a while to get to us. The pizza made up for it. I think we got in the corner of the place that didn't get attention. There were apologies for missing us in the corner. That said, if we had more time, I wouldn't have minded the amount of time it took to get our pizza. Again... food was absolutely amazing. Yeah, we were hungry. But good pizza. Pizza good. Oh, it was gluten free crust... so not "real" Chicago pizza, but still good, good pizza.

Amazing Food. Ooeeyy Gooey Cheese on the pizza with a sweet and tangy sauce. My son said the crust was very good nice and crusty and buttery tasting. The chili cheese nachos were massive. They came with so many different including guacamole for a fabulous price. Very easy seating we did not have to wait we had a very pleasant waitress who checked on us periodically to make sure everything was going good with our visit. Close to millennium station and to the art museum for a nice dinner after a visiting the museum.

First time here! Great service. We ordered a few deep dish pizzas. Two personal and one 10”. Definitely a small or personal should be enough to share with someone. It was better than expected. Plenty of ingredients and very nice dough and crust. Would definitely come back again. It may take some time to get your food as it is freshly made, but it is worth it.

Acting on a recommendation of my best friend, my uncle who I dined with at the restaurant really enjoyed the deep dish pizza we ordered along with the raspberry mule which was exceptional. I will be back in the future. Keep up the good work.

If you are from out of town and need a place to eat - GO HERE. Amazing pizza and we had an amazing server. The garlic bread and deep dish pizzas (personal size) were amazing and we had leftovers to bring home. Thank you so much for a wonderful dinner!

My son, granddaughter, and I after visiting the Obama exhibit at the Art Institute were hungry. I had not been there in years. The food is still, as I remembered, "delicious"! We ordered a large sausage and pepperoni pizza for my son and I and a personal size cheese for my granddaughter and fries. The meal was very satisfying and I took leftovers home. Not all restaurant items heat up well, not the case with my leftover pizza and fries that evening. Placed in the oven for a few minutes, experienced a delicious snack while watching a good movie that evening. BTW - the server was just friendly enough and returned to our table several times during the meal to check whether everything was satisfactory. Bathroom was clean and odor free! If you find yourself downtown Chicago and want a good meal, Exchequer is a good bet!

We were visiting Chicago for the first time and were looking for an authentic deep dish pizza for our experience and we stumbled across Exchequer in downtown as we were walking back to the Subway. We are North Carolina but this was hands down the best pizza I have ever tasted in my life. Highly recommend it to anyone in the Chicago area. Magnifico!!

I really like this place. It has great decor and warm lighting, making for a perfect cozy tavern vibe. The first couple times I went here, I came just for the drinks. They have a great draft beer selection and the place is never too crowded, so you can usually get a nice booth for 2-4 people. More recently I ordered food here and was impressed! I got their signature burger with the impossible burger patty and fries on the side. The food was ready surprisingly fast and the fries were crispy and good quality! I will be coming back here, for sure!

Had such awesome experience. Our server Kayla was EXCELLENT! On top of her game for service, knowledge and expertise. Met the owner George very genuine man, friendly made our experience so great. The deep dish pizza absolutely the best. Come one and all no disappointments here!! ❤️

Overall this place was mediocre. My husband and I were on vacation and it was our first time eating here. After dining in, we are surprised that this place has such good reviews. From subpar food, to poor waitressing. The restaurant itself was very pretty on the outside and inside. Keep in mind that this place does not have public restrooms. Seems like all places are like this in Chicago for some unknown reason. Anyway. Our waitress was friendly but was not attentive to our very basic needs at all. Like my drink needing a refill. Most of the time the servers were huddled up talking by the computers and on their phones. My drink sat empty on the edge of the table for over 15 minutes. The entire time we were there, she came over to check on us once. We only got a box and the check(another waitress brought us our check btw) after having to wave her down after sitting there waiting for twenty minutes. Not acceptable. Now for the food. We ordered a small house salad with ranch. There were two slices of cucumber, two slices of tomato, and three croutons. Topped with what tasted like cheap and unappetizing Hidden Valley ranch dressing. At this point we didn’t have high hopes. We also ordered a deep dish pizza. We did half and half toppings. From what I’ve eaten and seen in the past, Chicago deep dish pizzas normally have the sauce on top with cheese underneath. This pizza did not. My husband had Italian beef and mushrooms on his half. He didn’t like either. He said the mushrooms looked and tasted like they came straight out of a can. My side of the pizza, however, was delicious. No complaints there. It was an overall disappointing experience. Wouldn’t dine here again.

4.1 stars. Great location with some pay on-street parking available. Steps to Chicago Symphony Center and close to Auditorium Theater. Helpful and friendly management who provided good information while making our reservations. Our food server and food presented were okay. The thin crust pizza was meh, a bit bland... My Big Al burger was a monster! The cocktail we ordered had to be remade and ultimately was a very good pour. The booths were comfortable in a room with a supper club feel. Bathrooms are a solid B and the establishment is handicapped accessible. I would recommend...

First time visiting here! Excellent customer service from entrance to our waiter. Ordered a small build your own deep dish pizza: mushrooms, spinach, pepperoni. This was the best tasting pizza I’ve had in a while. It’s sooooo filling. My BF and I shared a small and I could barely finish the second slice. A personal deep dish is probably enough for two to eat off of. Thanks to the kind and knowledgeable transit driver for the recommendation.

We had a decent experience overall. The staff was friendly and kept us informed. We had to wait a bit for the food because there was full and the pizza takes time. The decor takes you back to an era where you had to hide to drink. If you have some time feel free to move on in.

This restaurant was recommended by our doorman Steve from The Congress Hotel. There were 16 people including children. The staff accommodated us with no problem. The food was outstanding, when we return to Chicago we will be going back to this restaurant. The theme is Gangster inspired, we loved it!
