This is a spectacular place to relax while changing trains or waiting to board a train while at Chicago's Union Station. Admittance is restricted to business class, first class and sleeper car passengers. It is a nice lounge with WiFi, comfortable seating, refreshments and other services. I have heard there are showers as part of the lounge. This seems like a nice feature but I have never used or even seen them. When possible I try to travel business class simply so I can take advantage of the Metropolitan Lounge.

If you are traveling Amtrak cross country and happen to have at least a four hour over lay in Chicago I highly suggest you purchase a day pass to the Lounge, complimentary snacks similar to a hotel brkfst( snacks ) kind bars, coffee, tea, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, as the morning dissipated into afternoon, snacks went more into a luncheon vibe.. but the highlight of the lounge amenities is a glorious rainfall shower,. Granted it's a 15 minute time limit, but after a day and a half on board , a hot relaxing and cleansing shower is phenomenal- complimentary sealed Towel. And wall dispensing soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The main level also has a full service cash bar, and a Children's Play Space , TVS, charging ports, work stations very modern. The upper lounge ,which is also at street level is more of a quiet zone ,no tvs, larger plusher couches.. had I realized I had access to both. I may have went up and took a nap, instead I had four cups of coffee and listened to a woman recall her journey and her dinosaur wings experience...

Very nice space. Large, friendly and helpful staff. One gentleman at the desk during the majority of the day is particularly professional. A small bar and light snack options. Baggage storage available. Also has shower facilities.

We were greeted by George, who was extremely professional and kind. He got us all set up with what we needed. We were also very impressed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and especially the showers. George is an exceptional member of your team. Thank you George for doing your job and loving it.

It is clean and comfy, good for a ride before you go anywhere on the rails. There was hot coffee and a selection of snacks and drinks you can grab before you go to your ride.

Clean and comfortable, with great atmosphere and design. There's a saferoom in which to store your luggage. Snacks and drinks greet you on your way in. Electrical outlets abound to charge your devices. The upstairs is generally peaceful, the downstairs is open and welcoming, and there is a children's corner with kids shows playing on the TV. Amtrak employees will announce boarding times over a speaker and will escort you to the train platform when it comes time to board. I love having layovers here during my travels and it is my favorite of the Amtrak lounges that I have visited. If your ticket makes you eligible to wait here, don't miss out on the opportunity!

Yes!!! I traveled over an entire year having no clue that it is TOTALLY worth purchasing a business class ticket ๐ŸŽซ which gains you access to this glorious lounge. As I checked in a wonderful attendant informed me of all the benefits .

The lounge, since remodeled, is as comfortable as most domestic airline lounges. Seating is very comfortable, and they offer the occasional wine tasting and the distribution of chocolates. The only downside is that they won't allow you to take any outside food or drinks into the lounge. I don't understand this, as that policy is usually reserved for establishments that sell food and beverages; the lounge offers complimentary snacks and beverages only. So don't try to take your Starbucks into the lounge. Otherwise, it's a great place to relax before your trip, or to store your bags as you venture out.

The staff is professional and efficient. Much better than my last encounter a year ago. I am very impressed with the new Metropolitan Lounge. Large space to accommodate the many business and sleeping car passengers. A cash bar in the afternoon and fresh healthy snacks. Way to go Amtrak!

One of the main benefits to taking the sleeper train is being able to hang out in this lounge... The quiet area upstairs was my favorite, but the downstairs is nice too. Free drinks and snacks while you wait for your train and friendly staff! Great place to relax!

The station is very grand. It feels like you are in one of those historical architectures in Europe. It's clean and not crowded.

I love this Metropolitan Lounge. The Lounge is recently renovated and very spacious allowing for everyone to spread out. Snacks, coffee, and drinks are available. There are plenty of electrical outlets and tables to spread out and work. Staff are professional and thoughtful. Keep up the great work!

A deluxe experience with Amtrak. Sometimes you wonder what your business or sleeper class buys you, apart from safety and distance from the throng of folks taking coach class. Let me tell you what it's worth. There is a bit of a "gilded" element when posted up in here. Plentiful comfortable seating complements the contemporary ambiance. It's contrasted sharply with the coach Amtrak waiting rooms found on the lower floor, often overflowing with people. In my experience, although it was a Saturday evening, the Lounge was not busy at all. Several flat screen televisions play different channels, some with audio and some without. Tons of couches were unoccupied, with the ones that were occupied attended by only one or two individual travelers. In one corner of the lounge, you can even peer into the Great Hall and mock the peasants from the looking glass! Quite the devilish inclusion, indeed! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ Refreshments are complimentary and unlimited, though there is an honor system in place that requests the guests take only what they can eat in the lounge. Cognizant of this, I took an apple with me for my train ride since I was only packing Clif bars and soda cans. Someone before me depleted the entire ice machine for his water cooler, so I didn't feel so bad by comparison. My only complaint is the cost of entry being $25. However, the cost is included with a business or sleeper fare if it departs the same day. You can enter and exit an unlimited amount of times, so long as you present your ticket each time you enter. Overall it's a great experience, especially if you plan on hanging out for a few hours. There are plenty of outlets, plenty of refreshments and plenty of spaces for you to decompress. Worth a try!

Visited in May of 2022. Plenty of space with ample seating. The upper level and mezzanine sorely needed furniture updating while the first floor appeared to be in a more modern condition. Good selection of free rotating snacks (drinks too) and a small bar for alcoholic purchases. Guarded entry by ticket only. This lounge was included in the first class (sleeper cabin) rates.

Worst lounge I can ever remember being in. The Snacks are chips and pretzels, no water, Uncomfortable seats and no bathrooms. When I asked the attendant for a bottle of water she pointed to the water fountain. I definitely wouldnโ€™t pay to come in here. I only regret that I was looking forward to this as a perk to my sleeper car reservation.

Great place to relax between trains. I can safely park my luggage, grab a snack, walk around the beautiful old station or walk a block to Lou Mitchell's route 66 diner.

The Metropolitan lounge is very very nice. Very clean, quiet, has free showers for men and women separate. Hot water, clean tile showers with towels they give you. There is also free drinks, snacks, coffee machine, and plenty of places to sit.

Great space with plenty of comfortable seating and free soft drinks and light snaks.. Electric carts take you to your rail car door for boarding. Wonderful staff and luggage storage for free if you want to do some sightseeing.

We were told when we booked our trip that even though we were coach we could buy day passes when we got to Chicago as we have many times in the past. When we got there and went to pay for day passes the guy said the dont sell them to coach passengers anymore. We used to love going in there, we felt safer in their. This station gets worse everytime we come through. There is no safety there anyone can come in off the street and for coach passengers there isn't anywhere safe to sit or to store your carry on for 6 hours til you board your next train so maybe you can walk around Chicago or just relax safely. They don't care about the coach passengers at all.

Very nice set up. Friendly staff. Comfortable place to spend a few hours. You can bring food back in from the food court. Lots of power plugs and USB connections. Solid wifi. Two floors.

They have a cash bar but there is no one there. I asked an employee for help and they said they could not help me. I wanted 2 beers offered to pay. Wanted to grab them leave money and she got security. No ones seems to know where the person is who is suppose to be at the bar station.

The facilities are nice but the customer service experience was frustrating. We had a long layover and hoped to take a quick shower and then go spend time in Chicago, but we wasted about 2 hours waiting. For one, thereโ€™s only one womenโ€™s shower so you have to get on a waiting list, and then when my wife was first in line, the woman working the desk refused to give her the shower key until she was finished checking in guests, but there was a continuous flow of people checking in for over an hour. At any time she couldโ€™ve taken a minute aside to let her go shower, but she did not. Fine if you plan on just staying in the lounge the whole time, I suppose, but we finished our stay very annoyed.

This lounge is OK. Compared to offerings with airlines it is way below the standard. My wife and I were in a sleeper car and we had a four hour layover. Having a place to put your bags is nice. The lounge itself is decent and well appointed. Snack and drink service was pretty mediocre. Sodas were cold when put out, but there was no ice to keep them cold. Snack bags were available like doritos and lays products. The most laughable thing was the "hot food" - a cup of Cheetos red hot mac and cheese that you had to put water into. Coffee was terrible and we left to sightsee and get coffee at the nearby starbucks. If its free use the lounge. If you have to pay for it you are wasting your money.

Clean and modern with cushy seating options. Complimentary snacks and non-alcohic beverages are available.
