The good, the great, and the ugly. I had high hopes for Momotaro following excellent dinners at Boka and Swift & sons. The good: all of the food options we had were good. We had a group of 4 and split a bottle of sake, multiple sashimi, cold plates, rolls, grill items, and desserts. The rolls were the most enjoyable and had unique exciting flavors. The great: the atmosphere / vibe of Momotaro is hip exciting and inviting. The design clearly complimented the food style and took the environment to the next level. The ugly: All-around this was some of the worst service we have ever received. From the moment we walked in it was all downhill. The host was openly rude and acted like we were punishing her just for being there. The tour of terrible service only continued at our table. The server was clearly annoyed when I asked him to walk me through the menu and help me put together our order for the table. Every request from then on was either super slow or basically ignored. Overall maybe we got a bad night for service and this wasn’t indicative for a usual Momotaro experience, but based on our experience I can’t recommend Momotaro if you are looking for the high quality of service and food I’ve previously experienced from Boka group.

This sushi restaurant is absolutely amazing! They offer excellent sushi and tasty tapas style plates. We enjoyed our sushi’s there from the first bite to the last. The sushi’s are tasty, fresh and delicious. The drinks are good as well. We sat at the sushi bar and Chris, the sushi chef was very friendly and professional. He made us excellent recommendations, shared his personal favourites with us and made sure we enjoyed the delicious sushi’s and plates this restaurant has to offer. The decor and the vibe are both awesome. The service was also impeccable! Overall, I recommend this restaurant to every sushi lover in town and I will gladly come back to try out more delicious items on their menu! ***edit*** we also tried the izakaya Downstairs and the food and ambiance were amazing!

It’s so nice to find actual good sushi these days. Most restaurants typically have menus filled with tempura, cream cheese and crab stick. Momotaro is the complete opposite. Their fish was high quality and executed more towards the traditional Japanese standard. Really glad I stopped by here while in the neighborhood.

We've come here multiple times. When we came recently, the menu was new. We had high hopes for the food, because it's always been good. The creativity in selecting novel ingredients and the quality of food were both on point. However, for some reason the seasoning was way too salty in almost every dish that unfortunately drowned out the flavor of the ingredients. We will still return but hoping that the seasoning can improve.

My friends and I did family style and we ended up spending around $70 each but that includes four appetizers, sake, dessert and sashimi. This place is pricey but you taste the quality and complexity of the food. The servers were really helpful with recommending a sake to pair with the food we were eating and they frequently checked in on our table. My recommendations are the steak skewers, the tuna sashimi, and the Miso Blondie for dessert. This restaurant is one of my favorites in Chicago, highly recommend going.

Celebrated our friend’s birthday at this location. It was nice place and warm vibe. The foods tasted good and I loved the sushi but the portion of it was small. We ordered Monk’s Journey and it was delicious. The Mishima skirt steak was really good too. We had fun and enjoyed our time.

Been wanting to come here for a while now. Would suggest the chicken pâté dish. Definitely ask for extra bread with it because you initially only get 4 small pieces. Would suggest to skip on the highball drinks. The plates are small, a bit pricey as well. Overall I’m glad I came to see the place for myself but I wouldn’t come back. The prices were too steep for what we got. Plan to eat elsewhere beforehand or afterwards to truly fill up or plan to spend quite a bit to get a lot of small dishes.

Agree with some other reviewers that the atmosphere is very nice, food is…good but definitely overpriced & service was ok/good. I would give it 3.5 stars. However, it missed the mark on some dishes like the chicken meatballs were too salty. The scallop dish had way too much Mayo. The blondie dessert (their most popular dessert) was pretty conventional & the flavors were not unique. The beef fried rice was very good & probably our favorite dish of the night but still a bit too salty. The octopus was good. The nigiri sushi was fresh but the rolls were nothing spectacular. Our server took our order but only came back to check on us a couple times & far in between. The tables were way too close together so when someone sitting on the inside had to get up to go to the restroom, their behind was basically on your table. I’m glad I went here once to cross it off my list but most likely will not return as I’ve had much tastier, more reasonably priced sushi elsewhere. I would go back for the ambiance & maybe just grab a drink from the bar. I also enjoyed the Izakaya bar much better & it’s a bit more affordable than the restaurant. We spent $400 (including tax & tip) for 2 people & that did not include alcoholic drinks.

The experience was beyond anything I’d imagine. From the beautifully lit interior to fantastic presentation of food to the endless layers of flavors meeting your tongue, this was truly a memorable time. With an open wallet, I made the trip to try a wide selection from the menu and it did not disappoint. Your tongue will enjoy dissecting the layers as they meld together in your mouth. The portions and pacing of the dishes never left my stomach feeling “full”, allowing me to fully savor every dish from the first to last. I left with a happy stomach and an experience I will not forget.

Food was great! Some small plates a tad bit on the pricier side for what they are but nothing crazy. Meal portions were more than enough. Everything was unique and delicious.

I used to love Momotaro but they need to work on their service. The times we saw our server was far and few in between. We pointed out that one of the sushi items we ordered, which I've had there before, was really fishy that night. No response other than he'll let the kitchen know. It was a friend's birthday which was noted on my reservation and confirmed to both the server and host but they didn't bother to even put a birthday candle on the dessert we ordered. Final straw was when we asked for the check, the server pointed out the QR code for payment. I found out that by paying via that method, I was charged a $3 service fee which wasn't previously disclosed. It's obviously just a few dollars but when you're already charged a 3% surcharge on top of everything else, it's enough to make you not want to go back.

Great interior design, good service, incredible food. Everything tastes fresh, well balanced, and impactful. It's always nice to sit at or near the sushi bar.

Momotaro holds a special place in my heart among the establishments in the West Loop. Apart from the delectable cuisine they serve, it's truly the exceptional staff that sets this place apart. From the moment you step through the doors until the time you bid farewell, the staff's impeccable service leaves an indelible impression. I find myself eagerly visiting, even if it's just for a drink at the bar, as any excuse to experience their hospitality is worthwhile. However, it's worth noting that if you're on a tight budget, it may be best to reserve Momotaro for special occasions. In my humble opinion, this establishment consistently delivers some of the finest food, phenomenal cocktails, and their Nigri has never failed to impress me.

This place was truly amazing. Every dish was not only beautiful but boasted an amazing flavor profile. Come to this restaurant in a group of 4 that likes to share: that way you can try everything and order half of the menu!! Definitely ask your server for recommendations here… there are some hidden gems. Everything was amazing but there are some you can’t miss… Favorites: chahan (not pictured, basically beef fried rice cooked right in front of you in a piping hot bowl), Taku Su, beef sliders

I absolutely love the experience I have here. This is by far one of my favorite restaurants to visit in Chicago and in the WESTLOOP particularly. My favorite is the beef fried rice, but they have so many great things on the menu. The service is always above and beyond and it’s always clean. Definitely need to schedule in advance if you want a reservation time that works really well but that just goes to show that they have a great service and great food!

Wow what an amazing night! Perfect service, great atmosphere, and just an absolutely delicious meal from start to end. Everything we had was so good one of the best dining experiences in Chicago. Make sure you end with the chocolate dessert!

Came here for a romantic dinner with my partner. Dressed up fancy for a nice place with excellent food that we kept getting recommendations for. We had some octopus (best I've ever had), and maybe 3-4 more items off of the menu, but the octopus blew my mind.

Great night out but not a cheap one. Worth nearly every penny as the portion sizes weren’t too amazing. So we ordered more, delicious food and the sake we ordered was brilliant. Will be back for celebrations and events.

👌Premium Japanese restaurant with premium charge. You can see chefs making sushi and food. I liked premium interior and its friendly staff. We had chef’s choice and 2 different rolls. Food quality was top notch and the quantity was really okay. I mean this place is more for a mood and its quality time. I’d go here when you need to soothe you lady. $68 for the chef’s choice. (Nigiri or sushi) $28 for a really really small roll.

Overall I am happy with my visit to Momotaro. The food was diverse and creative while still feeling authentic. Everything tasted great and I felt it was worth it to try out a lot of different entrees. Some dishes were very substantial, such as the lamb chops, while others, such as the pork loin, were a bit too small to satisfy. The sushi was very well crafted and flavorful in every bite. Service was good and although there were a few moments where they made small mistakes, it didn't put a damper on the experience. Overall I liked Momotaro and I would be willing to eat here again, although I feel there are plenty of other restaurants in this price range that are more worthwhile.

Definitely will need reservations if you would like a spot. The cocktail choices were great. I would say my favourite dish was actually the appetizer, the octopus and the buns. I was actually disappointed by the sushi. The sushi rice wasn’t what I expected for the price they charge. All in all, this restaurant has a great vibe and atmosphere for chatting along with decent food.

We were honestly a little surprised how well such a nice place accommodated our toddler dining with us. They whipped up an off-menu buttered noodles for the picky eater and kept us all happy and satisfied the whole meal. The staff was highly professional and the sushi was phenomenal.

Only been here twice and I think I need to come back more often. Everything about this place is impeccable. Great for groups to get a bunch of things and share. I can’t remember the names of dishes we ordered, but you cannot go wrong with the Izakaya options (the lamb is a must) and the sushi (could pass on the rolls, but the sashimi or sushi bites are delicious).

This was my daughters restaurant choice, I’m not a big fan of sushi and Japanese cuisine.. but the dishes that I had.. were really great and reminded me of other dishes that I might’ve had in other restaurants.. the interior design and lighting fixtures were really modern and contemporary, the bathrooms were really clean and the music was upbeat and non distracting.. my server although a really nice guy was spread a little too thin.. I’m starting to think this a city wide restaurant issue.. it seems every restaurant I’ve been to lately, they don’t have enough waiters and a a result the one waiter is super busy handling a lot more tables than they should.. the lighting was so dimly lit i felt like I was wearing sunglasses the entire time.. other than that.. definitely a place I want to comeback to.. but with my luck the dishes I fell in love with they’ll probably not be on the menu..

One of my favorite places to eat sushi in Chicago ! While all of the dressed nigiri I’ve tried are all phenomenal, my favorite dish would have to be the fried octopus. Simply the best octopus I’ve ever had in my life. My server, Nui, was incredibly helpful in explaining the menu and making recommendations. Her warmth and kindness greatly enhanced my dining experience ! All of the desserts are also amazing, the chocolate toffee dessert is my favorite

Groups of more than 7 people: I decided to have my birthday dinner at Momotaro because I’ve heard great things about it. Unfortunately, my experience here was terrible. It started with their event planning team, which I had to email to book my table since my group was bigger than 7 people. I emailed them on a Monday evening and got a response the next day in the afternoon, asking for more information. I responded within the hour, but I did not hear from them again. Two days later, I decided to email the main email address and finally got an immediate response. I was informed that groups of 8 or more were obliged to select from a fixed family-style menu. Personally, I wasn’t a fan of the food selections. Upon arrival, our table setup was still incomplete. We were seated in front of the bar close to the entrance, with a pillar awkwardly dividing our group. When I requested a table adjustment, the server seemed hesitant, explaining that it will lead to space constraints and traffic issues, then said “there’s nothing I can do about it; we can’t move your table”. I understood the spacing issue that she mentioned, but I felt that my reservations were pointless because I felt as if I walked in and asked for a table. I thought there would be a better seating arrangement in the restaurant for us because I had made a reservation. My friend got hit in the head at least 4 times by guests and servers passing between our table and the bar. There was a mat on the floor in front of the bar that someone tripped over and used my friend’s head to catch themselves. It was a complete nightmare. We ordered our drinks before the first course started coming out. Four out of the five first course dishes came out, and our drinks were still not served. The bar was not full, and the tables around us were already getting their second round of drinks. When I inquired on what the remaining time was for our drinks to arrive, I received a somewhat curt response from our server, in which she said “Okay, there’s (# of guests) of you here. It’s going to take time.” She looked frustrated; I’m not sure if the restaurant was short-staffed and she had too many tables. I only asked because I thought we would get our drinks before our next course started. At the end of the night, we asked for the bill. Our server said, “No, I can’t get a final receipt; whoever booked it will get the final receipt tomorrow.” We asked the manager, and he was able to get us a copy of the receipt. Also, the final bill I received through email the next day did not itemize the drinks; it just had a total amount next to the word "beverage." In conclusion, I would never want to come back here again, especially not for a big party. The food selections were okay, but I would have rather picked my own dishes to share family-style at our table. Some of my friends don’t eat red and white meat, so not all the meat options were finished.

Nice food, matches the price they charge. Their fatty tuna belly was of high quality and my friend who usually doesn’t like tuna actually liked it. The chief’s selection contains 9 of their popular nigiri choices, I would suggest you order separate nigiris after seeing what it contains, so you wouldn’t be ordering repetitive items like we did. Their desert was quite creative. The reason I am only giving them 4 stars is that it was extremely dark and noisy inside, we had to almost yell at each other across the table to communicate, and we could barely read the menu due to limited lighting from the small candles they put up. Also, I personally prefer to have the lamb dish cooked a bit more, it is a little bit greasy since the fat is still mostly uncooked.

Momotaro is incredible. I went with a few friends in late January and the food was to die for. We had everything from the steak, to the octopus roll, and so much more. I think the pictures speak for themselves but definitely recommend.

Nothing in this place is wrong! Ample and good drink menu with plenty of sakes to choose from (and awesome recommendations from the server), a lot of tasty dishes in the menu with very good presentation and fresh quality of ingredients. My parents came in town to celebrate our graduation and Momotaro didn’t disappoint. It is also less expensive than you think, so please give it a try! Desserts are also a MUST!

Went here for anniversary dinner. Food is great, we enjoyed it very much. Definitelt try the soft shell crab and the fried rice. Although the tables are a little bit to close to other people. It is very loud. All in all, it was a good experience.

Wow. What an amazing experience. The food was absolutely spot on and Delicious. Not a single “just ok”dish. And Calvin our server, was amazing. Offering not only great dishes but how to best enjoy them. The atmosphere was modern and great. Overall just an amazing night out!!

I have been here a few times before. The food is consistently delicious, fresh every time. Services are amazing from valet parking, hostess, servers. Our server Paul this time was very attentive to details, patient, polite, and make sure the food ingredients work with everything my boyfriend order as he’s a vegetarian. We had a great time with friends here. Highly recommend.

A birthday celebration necessitates a great sushi restaurant visit, and Momotaro delivered! I was excited to get to go to Momotaro for my partner's birthday. I booked a prime-time dinner reservation and when we arrive most of the restaurant was full... on a Tuesday. We were seated across the restaurant in a booth and chair. Much like the other hot restaurants, the tables are far too close together here and make for some tight quarters. Overall, the restaurant was lively with various types of groups (families, couples, friends, etc.). It wasn't too loud and we could hear each other with no problem. The service was great throughout. Our server was attentive and helpful in making recommendations. They recognized quickly when the sushi rolls we had ordered were taking much too long and apologized for the delay. It was no issue, but nice to see that they were aware of longer kitchen times. The food was top-notch. The sushi rolls were flavorful and not overpowered by sauces or other condiments, the fish and all its flavor were able to shine. The Yakitori Don was a bit smaller than what I had expected, but that did not affect its flavor. The chicken was crispy and the egg yolk brought everything together quite well. I was personally most excited about the Mapo Tofu. Having lived in China for some time, I have been craving this dish. It was different from how I'd had it before, but it more than fulfilled my cravings. The tofu was tender and melted in your mouth. The flavor of the sauce was pronounced and came through fully, without overpowering the tofu. We finished our meal with the Miso Banoffee. I wasn't quite sure what to expect based on the description but I was very pleased with our choice. It had a great balance of coffee, without being too bitter or heavy. The bonus was a second dessert, which was complimentary, to help celebrate the special day. From start to finish it was a delicious meal and a fantastic way to celebrate a birthday. I highly recommend Momotaro for any occasion from a celebration or just a great meal. Snag a reservation and get out to West Loop!

Loved located in the Fulton market area, they have vegan option and really nice wines by the glass. The atmosphere is amazing and the stuff is really helpful. I'm a vegan and the waiter managed to make sure that I had more than enough to eat and was able to accommodate my diet.

The service is fantastic and I really like the environment. However, the food is kinda disappointing. It looks so cool and fancy, but it tastes really just okay. The scallop has too much mayonnaise which takes over entire taste. The only food I would recommend is momo shushi roll (right one).

We reserved a table at the Izakaya downstairs for dinner through OpenTable. Great atmosphere and we loved how our waitress asked us if we had any allergies right away. We ordered some spirit-free cocktails, the Satsumaimo fries, miso soup, and the Jewel Bako which was beautiful and fresh.

heard nothing but good things, went Izakaya style first time through. iykyk. it was early 530p dinner date on a snow day which is perfect! less people! excellent service, dope vibe, tasty cocktails, freshest sushi... 💯 🍥 🥃 🔥✊🏾

The service was great! The food and drinks were even better than I expected. My favorites were the shiso soba and the white lotus cocktail. I could probably eat the shiso soba every day. We were seated upstairs, which felt like a quieter atmosphere. Overall, this is a place I will definitely return to and hopefully soon.

Awesome rolls as always - would recommend the wings and uni pasta. The strawberry yuzu tart was refreshing, but definitely a bit too sour for my tastes. The experience was positive otherwise! Atmosphere is cozy and great to gather with friends. This is a great spot to reconnect and impress friends in a more casual setting

Creative Japanese restaurant at premium prices. The traditional Sushi/Nigiri is our favorite, so fresh, authentic and beautifully presented. Friendly and thoughtful staffs.
