When I first visit China town there is Lao Sze Chuan saying they are the best Chinese food in USA this year, and I was so happy and so excited! This is Chicago! They must have some decent real Chinese food. And when I really walk in and sit down, they are over priced. But if they are real authentic Chinese food then maybe it’s worth it for this time! I was so disappointed after I tried the food they are no match to those Chinese restaurant in Florida. And it is a shame they said they are the best! What and who gives you the confidence to say like that?! You can only lie and fool to those people who are not familiar with real Chinese food but not me! This is just a higher class version of Panda.

As someone who has eaten at a lot of restaurants in China and a lot of Americanized Chinese restaurants in the US, I do not recommend this restaurant. Food is extremely salty and the onions overpowered the honey garlic pepper beef tenderloin. It was essentially 30% sliced onions and the rest was beef. While the restaurant interior is very nice and awesome decor, the food came out suspiciously quickly for a party of one. The upstairs portion is reserved for parties. Plenty of seats inside. I did enjoy their refreshing water.

The lamb dish was exceptionally oily, the octopus was very flavorful with a good spiciness. The dim sum were amazing and so street the sesame balls. We loved the kitty kat robot waiter, ask for it specifically if the place is not busy.

Service here was absolutely atrocious. Lady in scarf simply floats around, did not take any responsibility for the bad service. Food satisfied our angry tummies. People in festive crowns - dressed up for a nice Christmas dinner - were definitely not in a festive mood.

It was good and authentic, staff was very nice. The soup dumplings were absolutely amazing and I would have liked to just flat out order 4 full plates of them cause they were so good. The string beans had a strange smell to them which was off putting. Yet the taste was immaculate. So I am in between on them. The Sze chuan dumpling was good. The sauce was delicious but I think there should have been more added. It really brought out the flavor which made them irresistable!! The beef brisket noodle was alluring in smell. The real kicker is the broth. It's worth every sip. It's a bit spicy, but anyone who can't handle spice well can handle that! Overall the atmosphere was really nice! :)

First of all, if I could give this place is zero i would I had ordered a fried rice and it had no flavor at all. I called in so they can remake or give me a refund instead, the lady talking on the phone told me that I was lying about my food.😅 Also, she told me that I should put soy sauce on it, or that I should not come here again and hung up on the phone. This is not the way to treat your customers. Instead, you should’ve given me better rice

Great location and relatively authentic Chinese food if you order the right dishes. Recommend 北京烤鸭 and 生煎包, they taste very good! 红油抄手 is okay. You can ask for parking validation for 15 dollars per 3 hours. A little bit pricey compared to other Lao Sze Chuan places but consider the location, it is reasonable.

If you are looking for authentic Chinese food and are especially fond of fried chicken with chili oil or boiled fish in chili oil, you’ll be right at home here. Their duck soup, that they serve before the meal, is just about worth the trip on its own - so good! During COVID, the employees are all wearing masks and sanitizer is readily available. Customers are well separated from one another. The food comes out fast and hot. The waitress was very friendly and helpful in ordering dishes. In short, if you are craving some authentic Chinese food, especially spicy chicken/fish, this place is a great option, even during the COVID era.

It was amazing to see the Lao Sze Chuan near DC, which I visited almost a decade ago, is indeed one branch of theirs. Despite of their success in expanding business, taste is less impressive. In my possibly demanding opinion, the spicy fried chicken is too oily. Seems the chefs over-Americanize the cooking to cater the non-Asian preference: deep fry + bread coat combo. But the real authentic way of cooking does not have the chicken breaded or fried and it shall be bone-on. I ordered the rice ball as desert and it was cooked in sweet rice wine. This is very authentic and I like it.

It was a great experience. Came here with friends from work and it was amazing. The food was very tasty. I got the Mapo Tofu and it was very good and spicy. I love spice but beware...if you can't handle the heat, avoid the spicy entrees. Come with an appetite because you will get your money's worth. I left with a doggy bag but still excited to eat it for lunch so I can tell people where I got it from. Great place. Give it a try!

Fantastic food, incredible service. Great setting worth the hype. The menu is extensive offering the normal American favorites with lots of non-traditional fare that is worth exploring. A limited number of Dim Sum items are available. Best to come and share around the table. Prices are elevated but fair for the quality served.

Searching for a good Chinese place, this came up, and it was the best Chinese food I have ever had- especially the pork pot stickers and Mongolian Lamb. Note: It's hard to find- it's on the 4th floor of the mall connected to Nordstroms but it is NOT a food court place... Think of it like an independent PF Chang's with much better/authentic food. :)

Blend of spices and the flavors are delectable. Loved the ambience and the service. I usually like my food less oily so this might just me but that's the only reason why I would take a star off my rating. However, I'd definitely recommend dining here if you are around the loop and into Chinese cuisine.

Honestly. If a cat robot in a tux is bringing you your food it’s an automatic 5 star experience. Everything was tasty and the price was right.

We ate here multiple times during our trip because the food was too good. Chinese cabbage is the best. My parents say meat was undercooked every time we had a meat dish though. Eggplant and king pao chicken are great though and Chinese dumplings were fantastic Enter through 4th floor of mall or elevator on Michigan avenue south of mall entrance

This was Soo good, I was not expecting it since it seemed empty. But the variety they had on the menu was great! You could order a lot of things too bad I was travelling solo I just ordered two dishes from the dim sum part. Both fishes were really good and fresh and hit for a November cold night. It was great that they have a robot delivering some of the dishes. The only thing that was not great is that they seem short staffed, but I guess there were not a lot of people so it's fine. Also they are on a top floor so they have a nice view.

The food was good but I felt it lacked the last bit of attention to detail that would have made it great. The Peking duck was tasty but came cold, and was not crispy. The dry hot pot met expectations, but better dry hot pot can be had in homelier restaurants in Chinatown, and at lower cost. For me, this restaurant's main draw would be its large variety and authenticity; I felt little love through the dishes.

Lao Sze Chuan is worth a visit! The food is consistently delicious and you can even catch a peek of the food preparation in the glass-walled kitchen. The real star of this place is the duck, so make sure you at least order the duck fried rice. If you're approaching from the street level, you're going to need to take the elevator up. You didn't miss it! If you are dining in before 8pm you can order boba tea from the nearby shop and have it delivered to your table.

Found a long hair in my rice & ask to have another order. Manager said no because I ate some already & refuse for me to give food back for refund also. We eat here often but never will again!!! See attached pictures of hair in the rice. Now she hiding in the kitchen & refuse to come out. Corporate has been contacted as well.

It’s such a pleasure to finally visit this place. The intestines were soooo goood. It had the decent spice on the intestines. They did a good job!! 沸騰魚 is a must. The only thing that disappointed us was 蒜泥白肉. It was not really like the 蒜泥白肉we usually have in Asia. Overall, I would definitely come back to try more food.

Located at one of the prime locations in the city , michigan avenue. Fried recommended to try this place. Must sat, quick service delicious food. Tried: chefs special fried rice, extra dry chilli chicken, kung pao chicken and eggplant. Decent and good, on the expensive side though.

Went for lunch with family. Ordered chili chicken, steamed fish, and seafood hot and sour soup. The fish was simply amazing with the citrus taste topped with coriander. Wasn’t impressed with the chili chicken though. The soup was really nice as well. I liked the side dish if cabbage salad. Nice ambience inside.

RAW SHRIMP AND BAD ATTITUDE/SERVICE FROM THE OWNER. Came here for Christmas and waited ALMOST TWO HOURS for one of the dishes to come. It’s holiday so I understand the wait. Fine. However, it took them two hours to give us raw shrimp. We ordered honey walnut shrimp which is a fried shrimp dish. Some of the shrimp was completely raw and translucent to the core. When I asked the server to see if I can see the manager. He told me the manager wouldn’t see me and I’d have to go downstairs to talk to him. LOL ok then my customer my king, let me go to your majesty. When I brought it to the manager/owner of the place, he showed me some of the other shrimp on the plate, which is not raw so he proceeded to tell me that what I’m saying is an opinion. He said opinions are not facts and the fact is that the shrimp is cooked. That is what he said. So I had to show him the shrimp that some of us ate.. completely raw. All he did was take the shrimp off the paycheck. Keep in mind we waited almost two hours for this to be raw. We ate it as well before realizing it was raw. Their response to this terrible experience was to only take the dish off the check whilst doing it in terrible manner. No apologies were made. By the way, Here’s a photo of the “cooked shrimp” which is “in fact cooked” according to the owner. Maybe he is a rly nice guy but just with a twisted sense of reality.

Poor/no service. Had to ask someone to find hostess to seat me (with a reservation). They have 2 entrances and no one is manning the Michigan Ave entrance. The big issue was the HAIR in my food (pictured) I had to flag someone to get my waitress who never checked back with me. She asked if I wanted her to take it off or re-cook it. No manager was on duty. After asking they discounted the meal by 10%. I'm really surprised a place operating at this poor service level is on Michigan Ave. Several other patrons also had to track down their waitresses for service.

Walked in for a dine in and got seated right away. The place was pretty empty which was nice, but we were sat a bit too close to another couple directly behind us. The food was great and I have no complaints about the taste or quality, but it was a bit pricey ($16-18 for a main course). The wait for the main dish did take awhile but the waitress did warn us about that and I'm guessing it was because there were a lot of to go orders, so I don't count it against them. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating to substitutions (swapped out one vegetable with another in the kung pao chicken dish), which a lot of Chinese places don't do. Overall I would definitely come here again and only took off one star because the prices were a bit high to comparable restaurants.

We absolutely loved Lao Sze Chuan. Stumbled into it on accident and had an absolute ball. We ordered the dry chili chicken, mapo tofu, and green beans. The beans were okay, a bit salty for my taste, but not bad. That is where the negatives end! The mapo tofu was among the best I've had in my life-extremely flavorful, soft tofu, and a very generous portion (this could be said for everything we ate!) Not too spicy, but enough to make you feel alive. The dry chili chicken was straight up addicting. I could not stop eating it. So crispy and juicy! I loved it. My personal highlight though was something we didn't even order. It was served as a sort of accouterment before our other food came out: lettuce shreds coated in chili oil? Not quite sure, but this was a fantastic accompaniment to each dish and I actually finished the plate before the rest of our food even came out. Felt no shame asking for another portion.

We went during the weekend but there was no wait for a table even though it was packed. I order the Spicy Beef Brisket Noodle Soup(?) which was nice and spicy. Food was amazing even though I couldn't eat it all and service was great (though there was a mix up in the end with our cash but that was just a misunderstanding). If you're thristy as well there is a bubble tea place across the way that the restaurant is partnered with. You can order from then while waiting for your food and pick them up before you eat. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town!

Good, good, good. A crab rangoon is a real crab Rangoon. It would be best if you grabbed it. This price is quite expensive, but it is reasonable for downtown Chicago. Lastly, my bill included the services charge of 20%.

We tried take-out twice from them, 3 months apart. Both times I waited about 30 minutes past the given pickup time for my food (and the first of those, the place was empty besides me and I was told “a few more minutes” over and over during the wait). On each trip, 1 or 2 items were wrong - the wrong meat twice and a lot of spice in a fried rice dish marked as “no spice”. Disorganized and unprofessional. Won’t be returning for a third try.

This is as good as it gets! One of my FAVORITE places to go in the DTLA area. Their galbitang is to die for! While the wait is almost always 45-60min long, it is absolutely worth it! Great food! The service was so so.. the waitress didn’t even smile back or even respond to our ‘ thank you’.. she even didn’t care to talk lol very weird and kind of rude. The food was so good that it compensated for bad service. Indeed. I hope these people take this seriously and act on this. Now about the good part : I ordered sole fish sauce with rice as main course which was hot and sweet and well balanced. Crispy shrimps with garlic sauce were so fresh and delicious ! the spicy dumplings were great too .. Next time I visit here, I should visit with more people so that I can try the traditional duck.

Our first visit and were pleasantly surprised. I would take a reservation though the place is huge. This is closest you are going to get to authentic Chinese food. There were more Asian s in the restaurant which tells it all. The spicy cabbage, bean salad was amazing and we topped it off with veg hot pot. The meal was highly satisfying. I would give 5 stars but was disappointed with bar service. One local beer was not available and the other was not cold enough. Our second visit we tried the dry pepper tofu and fried noodles. Simply delicious. Our 12 year daughter joined us to enjoy too. I would recommend the chef to reduce the oil. Just too much.

Great experience! I was able to get a great Groupon deal on a 7 course meal here. But regular price was $140, saved a bundle. Service needs work, but the food and atmosphere makes up for it. The duck fried rice and duck soup are the flagship of the entire meal.

Probably the favorite go-to Korean restaurant in Chicago. Both the food and the service is fantastic. If you come here, you have to try the galbi jjim with cheese. This is the probably some of the best galbi you will ever have. Probably don't expect to get a table very soon because this place is always full. If you are down for late-night craving food, I usually come here around 1 am and btw it's opening 24/7 if the coronavirus outbreak is over. Have a couple beer and a great galbi jjim with some reddish and kimchi is way to live.

Went for my birthday dinner this evening. It was myself and five friends. The restaurant was very clean, with a favorable menu, and perfect service. It was great to have a team of people serving us, impressive. We ordered a ton.. Xlb, Rangoon, pea pods, soups, fried rice, and 4 entrees. It was all timed well where we never felt rushed or crowded. They even brought us an extra side table. We also had drinks in addition to the black / gold sake per our server's recommendation, which was super smooth. I've always ordered take out, but this was my first dine in experience, and I will absolutely be back.

Ordered dinner through Grubhub. Waited two hours for delivery and it never came. Called the restaurant and they said “so sorry we were crazy busy we couldn’t make your order”. No phone call from them, nothing. GrubHub has charged my credit card so now I have to work to get a refund. I will never order from this restaurant or go there again. High quality top tier Chinese food. Authentic Chinese beers, full bar, excellent dishes. Had the delicious seabass with broccoli. It was a whole round cross section filet served in a perfect ginger soy sauce. I also recommend the garlic beans. Their fried rice comes in many choices. We enjoyed the duck fried rice.

The beef noodle soup was always our favorite until today, which tasted like some leftover. The soup was not the original beef soup but some tasteless soy sauce water. Never buy from this restaurant again, as the quality is not consistent and very often compromised. On top of the delivery fee charged by online delivery they charge everything $5 for delivery. A soup costs little above $10 but we spent ten delivery fee total. Absurd.

WOWOWOW!!! BEST FOOD YOU CAN GET ON MICHIGAN AVE. The lunch special is the best deal in town. $10 EVEN for an entree, app and soda. I had the kung pao shrimp and was utterly blown away. I have lived in the city my whole life and I’m kicking myself for not finding this place sooner. Service was phenomenal, my host was super cool and I got my food within 10 minutes. The food was mediocre but overpriced.. even for the city of Chicago. The waitress was slow and rude. We will wait for 10-15 minutes just to get some napkins. We decided we will not tip. The waitress followed us as we exited the restaurant and asked for a tip. We explained that the service does not deserve a tip and she told us not to come back again. Don't worry ma'am... we definitely won't be coming back.

The food is good. Love the bubble tea. But don't go here if you want good service. Waitresses are super short and rude. As we sat waiting for our food, we heard people leave, every person that walked out complained about the service. I kept having to cleaning my hands with sanitizer as it was very clear they where not taking any precuations due to COVID. Dirty cups and a table got additude when they asked for clean cups. Not the place to go if you concerns over COViD. Such a shame as food and bubble teas are really good but won't be returning.

Great service, massive portions. I had the Peking Duck dinner for 2 celebrating a birthday using a coupon from Living Social. Included 2 glasses of wine, duck soup, pickled spicy cabbage, green beans, duck fried rice, crispy duck skin, duck slices, pancake wrappers, cucumbers, scallions, garlic, sauce, sesame red bean filled balls for dessert. Enough for leftovers to take home.

Quick, cheap, delicious. Basically what you expect from a place like this. Popped by for lunch on a Tuesday and it was surprisingly quiet and empty. Service was no frills and exactly what I expected and all I needed.

Pre-COVID, I ate indoors here several times and always had a pleasant time. Post-COVID, I have ordered takeout from Lao Sze Chuan multiple times and it is consistently good. I am a creature of habit and always order wonton soup and chicken & broccoli. The soup has a flavorful broth and the wontons are made with good meat. The chicken and broccoli comes in a delicious brown sauce and the chicken is good quality. The dish is not greasy at all. My husband usually orders a beef dish and is always pleased. Very good and consistent Chinese food.

The food was very tasty. But the review comes mostly from the service. It was very late at night and our ride was running late. The staff were super accommodating.
