I wanted to love this place. Drove over 3 hours to get to it. Parking in this area is terrible. $2.50 an hour to park on the street if you can find a spot. Greeted by a woman that explains that there is a mandatory 20% tip. Waited a while to place my order despite there only being only 3 other tables occupied. It was more important for my waiter to be complaining to another waiter than to bother waiting on me. Several employees that just wander around with seemingly nothing to do. Once the order was placed the food came super quick. The country fried steak did not taste fresh and was very tough, not the correct consistency. Flavor was ok. All in the bill was $23 for country fried steak and water. Seems very pricey to me.

Great lighting, was quiet inside considering the loud music from across the street. Easy parking on a weekday afternoon. Food came out fast and was a delight to try something new. Everything was amazing. Thank you to our waitress for a great visit. *There’s a respectable 20% gratuity automatically added to your bill. I love this idea. If you’ve never been in the food service industry, It’s hard to relate. But some folks don’t leave a tip or might leave change. & to be fair most don’t know how to tip.

Best vegan joint in town. Everything on the menu is vegan by default. They do have dairy cheese and actually egg add ons but that's it when it comes to non vegan things. Their sour cream and ranch are soooo good can't even tell it's vegan. This place is great if your lactose intolerant. Dairy free sauces and cheeses and bread. Also BEST SHAKES EVER!!!!!! If you want comfort food and dinner style food that's vegan this is the place.

HOURS ARE MISLEADING! DINE-IN CLOSES AT 7PM! Traveled an hour into the city to try Chicago Diner for the first time. I’m from Kansas City, and I possibly won’t be able to try them again. We found and paid for parking, got there 7 minutes after 7pm, and were told that they stop seating an hour before their close time. Though we explained our situation and that we were only a bit past, they wouldn’t allow it. I’m glad they suggested other good places to eat. It was very disappointing. If I am ever able to come back to Chicago, not sure I’ll risk this place, especially because it was my friends first time going out for vegan food, dad of three. They seem to put customers behind their own convenience. 8pm is a pretty early time to close to begin with, but please change your dine in time on google to avoid confusion. Or make it clear on your website at least. I work in the service industry and understand it’s a pain when customers arrive near closing time, but turning customers away an hour before closing time is ridiculous.

Chicago Diner a meat free diner, is located less than 25 minutes away from downtown Chicago. I was pleasantly surprised by how well their seitan meat mimicked bacon and ham. They offer a wide variety of diner food, including Asian fusion dishes. My family thoroughly enjoyed all the entrees we ordered. The only drawback was the dense dessert cake. Nevertheless, the customer service was excellent - very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a unique take on diner food!

Better than I ever could've imagined. The prices are good for a sit-down place, especially considering it's all vegan (unless you request dairy cheese). The food was phenomenal and the service was amazing, fast, and COVID-safe.

A classic, well-established spot for vegans and non-vegans alike to check out. Located in Logan Square and Lakeview, this diner features an eclectic, meat-less menu from Thai stir-fry to burgers to vegan milkshakes. The interior is super cute, decorated like a vintage diner. Make a reservation in advance— we came for a weekend lunch and it got pretty crowded at some points. I got the Buddha’s Karma Burger (curried sweet potato-tofu patty, grilled pineapple, chimichurri sauce) with a side of sweet potato fries (a bit too much sweet potato, in retrospect). It was pretty good, with distinct flavors and a nice mix of savory and slightly sweet. Overall though, it was a little underwhelming, as I had high expectations. I didn’t like how it fell apart so easily, crumbling with every bite. The sweet potato fries were crispy and not too salty. We also tried the Mint Chocolate Chip Vegan Shake, as apparently they’re famous for their shakes, and it was really good and tasted so similar to a traditional shake... with no lactose intolerance! The prices were pretty fair and standard for the portions and quality, and the service was friendly. An automatic 20% gratuity is applied for all parties. Overall, I’d love to come back, especially to try their other sandwich/burger and shake options! — Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5 Food: 4/5 Ambience: 4.5/5 Overall Value: 4/5

My cousin, who is already gluten-free and recently vegan, and I were very excited to try this restaurant based off of all the good reviews we read. We arrived at the restaurant a few minutes after it opened, so there wasn't any wait. The restaurant was cold, but the decor was nice. I ordered the cinnamon roll French toast that came with a potato hash and seitan bacon, and my cousin order the Mexicana omelet bowl. When our food came out it did not look appetizing at all, but we were still optimistic. I tried the seitan bacon and it was disgusting and the smell alone made me want to gag. The bottom of my french toast was burnt black, and neither of our food was hot, which is surprising, because we were the first ones in there. My cousin wasn't too thrilled about her food either. Overall, I would NEVER eat at this restaurant again, and I definitely wouldn't recommend eating here too anyone either.

Cool place for a wonderful meal. As someone who is a meat eater, dining with vegetarians, I was pleasantly surprised with just how tasty the Radical Ruben sandwich was (when I took a bite of the whole sandwich and I couldn't tell the difference from a Ruben sandwich) and the Portobello Truffle Melt was exceptional. I would go back just for that sandwich.

I usually have a good experience with Chicago Diner but the last 2 visits were not so great. I received a gift card and wanted to order for delivery so I went to the website, looked through the menu and added all items then learned that you do not accept your own gift cards on your website. That’s odd. So I had to call to place my order and go pick it up. Tonight I did the same thing. I ordered nachos with extra cheese instead of sour cream. I’ve done this many times and never had a problem or had to pay more for this simple modification. This time your employee that took my order over the phone charged me $2 each for 2 separate bowls of cheese that I did not ask for and she did not tell me she was doing this. I simply asked for a little extra cheese on the nachos instead of sour cream. I shouldn’t have to pay extra for something when I’m removing another ingredient, and I didn’t need that much..just a little extra because I don’t like sour cream. Please ask your employees to always tell people if you’re charging extra for something.

Usually I would rate "The Chicago Diner" with all 5 stars because I love the food and the vibe. But upon entering the restaurant on my recent visit, I was told that an automatic 20% gratuity would be added to my check. When I inquired "why" there was no explanation given. I understand that servers in the restaurant industry (as so many others) have suffered greatly during the pandemic. Yet by forcing a gratuity upon a customer feels like a direct violation of the idea in which it is founded ~ gratuity/tips are given for services rendered without claim or obligation. Even if this was/is my standard amount for a tip, it still should be my decision. Shame on the Diner.

Popular vegan diner in Logan Square serving vegan comfort food similar to what you’d find in a normal diner. Ordered the cinnamon roll French toast which was awesome, and the steak and eggs which were good not great (the seitan could have been seasoned better). Ordered cocktails which were tasty. Friendly staff, busy with lots of people.

The BEST vegan food. So many options and all super delicious. We had chicken fried steak, reuben, portobello truffle melt, poutine, stuffed zucchini empanadas. Also 3 very tasty cocktails. I highly recommend this place. Went to the original in past also.

Definitely one of the hidden coffee gems of Matagalpa!! It's a super small but cute store. Alex and his wife attended us very personally, giving us plenty of cups of both coffee and hot chocolate for degustation. We ended up spending more than half an hour, chatting with them and learning more about coffee and their concept. Alex experiments a lot with chocolate so make sure to ask about the different chocolate types they have.

Always great food and ambient atmosphere. Good for both meat-eaters and non-meat eaters. Great for big group to sit at communal table. Our friends always love ordering poutine, jalapeno poppers and soul bowl. Delicious desserts. If you walk-in without reservation, there is a bar to chill, drink and order appetizers including space to wait and mingle. Typically wait time is 30 minutes. There is no reservation for 2 people on their online reservation via Resvy. We recently ordered brunch and lunch food. For brunch, the vegan cinnamon roll is pretty good. Monte Cristo with either eggs or seitan is great. For lunch/dinner, try the Buddha's Karma Burger, poutine, vegan wings, soul bowl, and so much more!

This is a really amazing vegetarian restaurant/diner. I would give it 5 stars, but I am a bit spoiled coming from Los Angeles. I ordered the steak dish which was true to taste, however I felt it was a little too bland for me. The Thai wings were pretty tasty and I enjoyed them. I also thought that the chicken shawarma could have been better because the pita bread that came with it was pretty standard (very much store bought). However the Reuben saved the day because it was amazing! I would not really recommend the vegan cheesecake because it doesn't have the same flavor that you'd expect from cheesecake.

    - FLOORED. The flavor on everything is delicious. - The iced chai had a great presentation and spice. - The titanic burger was PACKED with mouthing watering seasoning. - The Mac and Tess’ was so so realistic and unique. I was stunned. - Love how thin the sweet potatoes were. No overly salted or sweet. Just perfect. - The vibe was very homey and “put together”. - All the servers were attentive and patient. - We got seated quickly around lunch time on a Tuesday. - The noise level was low at the booth. But I can imagine it can go up during more peak days and times. - Parking is paid on Milkwaukee but close enough to walk to the California blue line stop. - Great location if you want to partake on night life after a lunch or dinner. Or just a nice walk and talk 👌🏼.

I went on a Wednesday around noon and was one of the few people there. Clean, quiet atmosphere with great music and attentive staff. I brought my laptop to do some work while I waited for my meal, which came out much faster than I anticipated. I took my server’s suggestion and got the blueberry pancakes, along with biscuits & “sausage” gravy. Cakes were hot, tasty, and a solid portion, while the “gravy” was rich in flavor and surprised me for being vegan. I’d definitely go back again, as this place is now one of my vegan go-to’s for comfort food.

I absolutely loved their milkshakes and dessert. The banana milkshake was made with real fruit! The s'mores sundae had a warm brownie that was delicious! The food was ok. The tamale was fine, but the rice and beans were bland and seemed to be reheated and not freshly made. The chicken fingers and waffle fries were good.

I have been to the Halstead location plenty of times, but only gotten takeout from this one, so decided to stop in and check out the vibe. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, service was pretty quick on a lightly busy Sunday night. I got the Mac and teese, Thai chili wings, Big Kahuna burger (a tofu/sweet potato patty with a slice of grilled pineapple), and a chocolate chip cookie dough milkshake. Everything was delicious, as expected. Also, it is well posted when you enter, plus the host mentioned it, but the is a 20% auto gratuity added to all dine in, regardless of group size. It did not bother me because I love supporting vegetarian businesses.

Absolutely fantastic vegetarian place, probably most telling to call it a vegan place with plentiful vegetarian options. (By which I mostly mean you have the option of putting dairy cheese in several dishes instead.) Food quality has always been excellent, with many old staples still being popular long after newer vegan offerings have hit grocery stores. The Country Fried Steak and Rueben Sandwiche are special favorites of mine.

This is a vegan restaurant. I didn’t know until I was told by my friend when I met her there. I picked this place to meet. I was like, oh the Chicago Diner. Glimpsed at the pictures and was like yum! She asked if I thought her milkshake would be dairy free… I was like…. It’s a milkshake! Why would it be dairy free? She’s like….. ummmm it’s a vegan restaurant! I was shooketh hahaha but…. The food was actually not bad and was very tasty! The “chicken wing” had amazing flavor! The nachos weren’t my favorite but they were not horrible. Just regular nachos. I’m used to the chicken or steak that’s all…. And I would definitely come back! Oh yeah, the milkshake was AMAZING!!! Get one if you come here! You won’t be disappointed!

Favorite place to get vegan food in the city! I’ve tried a variety of items from the Chicago Diner. I have to say the Cajun Black Bean burger is my all time favorite! The flavors from this burger is just incredible! Plus the sauce on the side enhances the flavors! Their shakes are super yummy, especially the pumpkin one which is in season right now. Upon paying for my pick-up order, it was fine for the young lady to receive my card from my hand but she couldn't hand it to me in return. She instead laid it, along with my receipt, on the table and stepped back to watch and await my signature. On second thought, please refund my money and cancel that order, was on the menu. I will not patron this establishment again.

A lot of flavor, not your typical vegan restaurant. Many interesting and delicious options. Even if you're not vegan, you'd enjoy the menu.

Great spot for vegetarian food! You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. All of the dishes are such great comfort food while also having no meat. Personal favorites include the Portobello Truffle Melt and the Cuban. You can’t go wrong with any of the sides - they’ve got regular fries, waffle fries, and sweet potato fries which are all great.

We had the Cajun burger and the Cuban sandwich. The portions were very big and filling. The Cajun burger was great except for the pepper that was used which made it extremely spicy. I liked the sauce that came with it. The Cuban sandwich was good, but nothing special.

Love the food. Always love eating the food from here but the customer service is questionable sometimes. Waited inside for a takeout order just to be met with a rude comment towards me not wearing a mask while waiting. I tipped too and it was just rude and unnecessary.

Their food is delicious!! I had their pierogi quesadillas, which had a little too much sauerkraut in them for my taste. Their chocolate peanut butter milkshake more than made up for it. I am also a huge fan of their Spicy Crispy Chicken sandwich. It is my go to order whenever I visit. One of the best vegan places I have been to hands down.

Super nice place inside and out! Decoration are very colorful and fun. Lots of people bring their dogs and sit outside and the staff are very friendly! Great coffee and nice place to work as well. Great place to come either for a quick coffee, hang out or work! My puppy loves it there too!!! always fun to meet other dogs there.

Visited on a date. We had the vegan wings for an app. They were delicious! My BF had the Cajun burger and loved it. I had the Thai stir fry. It was too much flavor for me. I wish I would have chosen tofu instead of whatever I chose. The service was good. Drinks were good. Overall a good experience. I wasn't blown away but we were satisfied.

Seriously awesome vegan food, with an impressive variety of dishes. We had the specials that day- the mushroom stroganoff poutine blew us away!

This place is absolutely fabulous!! I came on a busy Saturday morning and waited a while for a 5 top but it was more than worth it! Everyone in my group got something different and each plate was delicious!! The portions are generous and the flavors are on point. We had two meat eaters in our group and they were equally thrilled. If you’re considering coming here, do it!

There is a reason that they have survived this long. Good stuff . WILL RETURN...This was my 2nd visit. The gyros is tasty so is the Reuben. The balsamic Brussel sprouts are bomb.

This was my first time coming here for breakfast and certainly won't be my last. I wanted a little bit of everything so I got the breakfast bowl and a side of French toast which was so delicious. Everything here is vegan which is great for my friends, and I don't eat pork so actually being able to eat biscuits and gravy was amazing. #cleanplateclub

I'm from Australia and was here 4 years ago and had the best carrot cake milkshake ever. Was big time disappointed today coming in to get a carrot cake milkshake to find out they don't have them any longer. The peanut butter cookie dough milkshake was excellent, but I couldn't give 4 stars because of the carrot cake absence. Please bring it back before I visit again in another 3 or 4 years.

Love this place! Today we got the country fried steak and Cuban sandwich. Both were amazing. I love that they have a huge menu and everything is vegetarian and can be altered to be made vegan.

Vegan Can Be Delicious! This was our first time visiting The Chicago Diner and we were pleasantly surprised. They've been around for a long time for good reason. If you've never had vegan food before you need to know that you can't expect the same texture as you'd get with non vegan food- particularly with proteins and cheese. There were 4 of us on this visit and we began with the Thai Chili Wings appetizer. Made with a Spicy chili-lime marinade and served with Sriracha-ranch, and garnished with sesame seeds, this was delicious! No, it didn't taste like or have the texture of "real" chicken and I'd totally have it again! Good is good! The Country Fried Steak was good and the portion was large. The texture of the potatoes and gravy left a bit to be desired. The gravy didn't have much flavor. The potatoes tasted like a baked potato that was mashed. No creaminess at all, and not much flavor. The gravy didn't help, which was disappointing. The vegetables were good, though a little more on the raw side that we would've liked. On the plus side, they weren't overcooked and mushy either. The Philly Cheese Steak is a hefty sandwich made with seitan that looked like shaved slices of tender beef topped with sauteed peppers, onions, and vegan cheese sauce. The vegan cheese sauce was a swing and miss for me. There was no cheesy flavor to it at all. It reminded me of the gravy on the mashed potatoes. I make a pretty good vegan cheese sauce at home so I expected more flavor. Still, this was a good sandwich. The Caprese Burger is made in house. It is a tofu and seitan patty that reminds you of a mild chicken patty, is topped with mozzarella, tomato, a Very mild pesto and served on a grilled ciabatta roll. It was good but could've been great, if the pesto had flavor. We ordered their sweet potato fries as our side- they were very good! Their Titanic Blt Burger is also a house-made seitan patty. It's topped with bacon-style seitan, french-fried onions, lettuce, tomato, and Chipotle sauce. It was thoroughly enjoyed. We also ordered their strawberry and cookies and cream vegan milkshakes. They were great! Creamy and flavorful, you'd never guess they were made without dairy. You should definitely give this place a try. I would go back again.
