First time being here the atmosphere is wonderful, the music was nice. Now let’s get down to it 1) the young lady that took our order didn’t comprehend anything we said. 2) the food looked good but it was cold as ice. Eggs was hard as a brick. Once we spoke to the manager finally we received hot food.. I’ll try them again just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke.

The prices not bad but the food was not good at all. The fried chicken was the best thing honestly. The yams lack of flavor, dressing full of raw onions and lack of seasoning , baked mac n cheese not even baked smh (I added some black pepper but still not good), the cornbread muffin hard as a rock and the caramel cake was ok but not homemade. I will not return unfortunately.

This is my Sunday after church goto for dinner. The food comes out hot, fresh, well-seasoned and very quickly. Ms. Dorothy and her team do a phenomenal job. The catering is 🔥🔥, too.

I came here craving soul food, and got exactly what I needed! The menu was simple, the portions were plenty, and everything tasted fantastic! I ordered the smothered chicken with collards, mac & cheese, and yams with peach cobbler for dessert. As much as I wish I had more room in my belly, I could not fit all the delicious food, and that is my only regret. Thank goodness they have takeout boxes!

So I’ve ordered from this restaurant before and everything was good. This time I got smothered pork chops Mac and cheese dressing and greens. The pork chops was okay need more seasoning had to add my own. The sides greens dressing and Mac was SO BLAND so I had to add my own seasoning. I got the lunch special so it came with banana pudding not so good either.

I was craving some soul food so we checked out this spot. Family cozy ambiance. I ordered smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese, yams and banana pudding. It wasn’t bad but could have been better. My chops weren’t completely warmed up but I was so hungry I ate fast. Yams were a bit too sweet and the Mac and cheese needed a bit more flavor. Banana pudding was okay. I will definitely give them another try.

Like sitting in Granny's dining room after church on Sunday! All the food is very well seasoned, hot and fresh. The owner comes and checks on you. True down home style cooking. Reminded me so much of my childhood Sunday dinners I almost had a tear. Very cozy and inviting venue. Private room has a fireplace. Writing this review getting hungry. Best soul food in the city, worth the drive

Soul food is a specialty and not every one can do it correctly! 6978 Soul Food can do it. The atmosphere in the restaurant is okay it definitely gives outdated bar/banquet hall. But one thing I’ve learned as a foodie is how the place looks shouldn’t always deter you from stopping cause we all know some of the best restaurants are holes in the wall. When we were seated we did a quick check to make sure it was clean and everyone was pleased. Our waitress was extremely sweet and nice. We have a big table with children so we always appreciate waitstaff that are a little understanding. The food was quick to get to the table which was great because we didn’t have to wait long. Even though the food was quick it was fresh and hot. The sides were amazing! The food was good definitely something to feel your stomach when you have a taste for soul food but don’t want to put in the effort.

Firstly, I purchased a groupon and the dine in setting was fine. The server was nice & the food was pretty good. So I purchased 2 more groupons at separate times. Those were take out orders. Both times was disappointing. The last time the worst. The mac & cheese had plenty of cheese that was barely melted and way too salty. Plus, I was obviously given the last of it, so it was burnt and looked old. Secondly, because it was takeout I didn't check the food until I got home. The second container was literally placed up side down in the bag. All of the juice from the greens and sweet potatoes was in the bag drenching the utensils. What the heck were they thinking or did they just not care???? Needless to say, the greens & sweet potatoes were now dry. I already talked about the horrible mac n cheese. Not to mention, the chicken must've been for patients in the hospital because it had not an ounce of seasoning. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. Sometimes getting a deal is not even worth it.

I only put one star because I had to. This food was absolutely disgusting! First off our server set a pair of dirty utensils on the table !! The napkins had stains on them as well. Now, let’s talk about the food ! BLAND! The Mac & cheese lacked seasoning and was pretty watery. The sweet potatoes lacked butter. The greens lacked seasoning! The jerk chicken did NOT taste like jerk at all. It was honestly just gross overall. The banana pudding was very brown and the cookies were hard on the inside. The peach cobbler … again … disgusting. It lacked flavor and was doughy. This also was not a cheap experience. For two entrees the total was almost $60. The price wasn’t horrible but considering the food was trash… I’m not happy. We will NEVER BE BACK.

Before we headed to our hotel we wanted some good ole SOUL FOOD. We were searching and searching. The other restaurants closed early. When we stumbled across 6978 their photos spoke for themselves. Their food had been absolutely divine. We had to order an entrée to go and meet the chef. Way to go 6978!

Been coming here supporting this establishment for well over 10 years. It’s been about year since we last visit this location. I have overheard from friends and family how the restaurant food is no where as good as it was previously. We had to come see for ourselves. Wow !! Such a disappointment. We ordered food for family of 3 and no one was satisfied with their meal. Meat was undercooked, dressing was bland, macaroni and cheese was flat out horrible. There was so much wrong with our order, there’s not enough characters to use to describe this disappointment. If I could give no stars, I would. This very well might be the last time we frequent this place. Hopefully 6978 get some more black people back in the kitchen. Soul food (comfort food) is made with a certain love that just simply can’t be taught.

The service was disappointing, with old chicken that appeared to have been left out for days. The waitress's unprofessional behavior added to the overall dissatisfaction. Overall, a subpar dining experience. Furthermore, the service declined as the waitress failed to bring water in a cup, opting for a picture on the table. Despite specific requests being ignored, she didn't bring a fresh order, and when I mentioned dissatisfaction with a wing, her indifferent response conveyed a lack of concern for customer experience.

This establishment really doesn’t deserve a rating at all, but it’s the only way I could write this deserving review: First and Foremost, I go out of my way to SUPPORT BLACK OWNED BUSINESSES, therefore; I’m writing with hope that this is viewed as “Constructive Criticism”. I was treated well when I was there picking up carry out, and liked what I saw, as I looked around. Problem came when I got home, tried my food, tried calling to convey my concerns, and KEPT GETTING HUNG UP ON! THERE GOES “BUSINESS”! FLAVORLESS GREENS WERE FLOATING IN GREASE!!!

I ordered takeout for me and a friend. I had the Smothered pork chops, mac &cheese and yams. The food was delicious. The peach cobbler was great! Friend had fried chicken, rice with gravy and pinto beans. Her desert was banana pudding. She enjoyed her food as well.

Of the 4 meals my son ordered the smothered pork chop was the best and very tasty. Baked chicken was tasty. The fried fish was ok, but not quite up to the caliber I'm use to getting from there. Otherwise my order was good... Sol....

Friendly staff who were very welcoming! Had several sides and 2 entree items with desert. Everything I had tasted delicious. Catfish and chicken well seasoned and juicy not dry. Beautiful atmosphere. Full bar. Street parking available. Alot of great items to choose from the menu. Will be coming back to try more of the items with my family. Looking forward to the jerk chicken and meatloaf too!! Highly recommend this place. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Getting our dinner was very slow this time. Seems as if they were working faster & more attentive to the take out orders. It was only 3 tables dinning in that included us. The food was delicious, but it took to long to get to the table.

Smothered chicken and dressing was good. Msc and cheese, rice and beans had no flavor. Just blah . Corn bread and greens were not great either. Won't buy again

Aw man, this place takes care of us. First is a really laid back and family feel when you go in. You get the sense that the people want you to enjoy your meal. Servers are attentive but not crowding you. Laid back doesn't mean slow; your food comes out quickly. You get decent portions. The food is satisfying without leaving you feeling weighted down. I personally don't like catfish but I'll eat theirs. My kids love the chicken.

Although I thought the food was good I thought that you should be given more of a variety to choose from so they have this set up to is whatever is on the menu for that day is whatever is accessible to you so they did have certain things of such as smothered pork chops smothered chicken and catfish and fried chicken I don't believe that you can go outside of the realm of that because that's what was Sunday's menu so what if I wanted a steak what if I wanted something outside of the caramel cake the banana pudding and the peach cobbler for dessert which by the way the peaches were very good but the breading was a little dry I just thought it should have more of a variety. I can say that the young lady that waited on us was very kind very friendly and very attentive

The food was good, but the the service was bad. I ordered a turkey leg and I was given a turkey wing drum instead. The cashier claimed the owner was out and insisted it was a turkey leg when there is a huge difference between the two. This outright lie and misrepresentation of what they are selling is unacceptable. IF you did not HAVE TURKEY LEGS THEN JUST STATE IT UP-FRONT! 😠 SMH!! I have dined in several times before with no issues. The food is always fresh, hot, and delicious. (greens are never good, will not order again after trying several times) Poor customer service is a biggie for me hence the 2 star rating. Especially when you act like people are dumb for NO REASON🙄 I will never understand businesses that operate this way. I try to support neighborhood businesses and unfortunately I find UNNECESSARY DRAMA too many times and for no reason, like in this instance. 😕 So very sad and deep 😔

Great food great service. I had the smothered chicken, white meat with dressing, collared greens, yams and banana pudding for desert. My chicken could have been hotter, it was warm. My fiancee had fried chicken white meat, his chicken had smoke coming out of it! I'm a slow eater so I know my food is going to be cold by the time I'm almost finished. I enjoyed it nonetheless. I ordered a Armeretto Sour, it was delicious, they had Frankie Beverly and Maze playing in the background and I wished they would've turned it up; it added to the ambiance. We will definitely return.

I enjoyed sharing a meal with my family and friends. The food was so good. I was also able to order a drink that I hadn't had in a long time which was tasty.
