New year and a new experience. The Greater Chicago Food Depository believes a healthy community starts with food. Volunteers are needed to help sort and repack food to be provided where it's needed most. Growing up in Chicago and Cook County, I have seen both sides of the coin. Wanted to say what a great organization, well staffed and prepared. Our team was Sweet Potatoes, with packing over 6,600# pounds, this equates to 18,864 meals throughout Chicagoland. Any bit helps, your time, money or food donation.

I need to get involved more often. This was a nice mother and daughter bonding. We gotta give back more nowadays. Instill the right values into our children and teens today. I started working young and this was a nice introduction to a work world. You can't put a price on giving back.

The best facility in Chicago so far. Great and kind people. Here is all essential information for truckers. - You can park on the street for overnight, just donโ€™t block exits from the facility. - They start to receive between 7am 1pm - First come first served - They can and will get you one day earlier. - Keep your drivers license handy they will ask for it.

Incredibly smooth volunteer process. Clean and impressive facility. Repacking is harder work than you'd think but it's honestly so much fun and they play some great upbeat music. Adorable stickers to take home. Locker system is helpful and convenient. Considering becoming a regular volunteer!!!

This is a very clean and modern food bank that does great things, such as parceling out canned food and bread year round they received from the individual public, as well as various groups and companies. They will soon began processing their own fresh food for Chicagoland communities. Today was my first volunteering experience at their facility and I look forward to many more volunteer opportunities with them.

An excellent organization to support. I love volunteering as a Driver during the summer, inviting friends to repack sessions on weekends, and above all else - seeing food in the communities that need it.

This place is AMAZING. Talk about an organized organization! My church group has been coming every few months & they really do things so smoothly here! Itโ€™s super easy for first-timers, & they really help you notice the difference you are making as an individual volunteer. Luis was in charge last time we went, & heโ€™s great. We all had lots of fun, & 3 hours went by too quickly!

This place runs like an well-timed engine by volunteers! What a way to spend few hours helping out our larger community by packaging some dry foods for non profit organizations to collect for those in need. Highly recommend folks trying to give few hours of service here for a great cause!

I went there to volunteer on 11/11. The facility is actually quite large and they are expanding. It was very clean and spacious. They provide us with aprons, gloves and hairnets. We did our packing in the warehouse - me and maybe 50 other people. We were occupying only a fraction of the warehouse. Everyone was assigned a role for the packing. And they played music while we packed. When we were finished they gave use the total poundage we had packed - 17160 lbs. It was a worthwhile 4 hours spent.

No you can NOT get food here . But you or your group can volunteer to help repack food for neighborhood pantries and the like . Wonderful place to have your kids do volunteer work to help the less fortunate . Wouldn't it be great if more of us could help

Tried to donate 2K $$$ of vegetables showed up at location. I've been told they don't have check in at facility and to call a number from a trailer outside in order to check in. After calling been told that i need to make an appointment for my drop off and as of now they need to check when i can do that to fit their schedule. I'm bringing 2K $$$ in food, tried to give it away for free, donating my time and resources. THAT SHOULD BE EASEIER!

Volunteering here was a fast better experience than I ever could have imagined. The location is very pleasant to be. The reception area is very modern and inviting. The warehouse is super clean. The work is organized like a very well-oiled machine. It was a rewarding experience that I would glady recommend to others.

No overnight parking for trucks, front gates are closed at night but you can park on streets. Appointment time is 8am got dock at 7 but they stared unloading at 12 in noon.

What a horrible experience. I was here at 0730 for 0800 appt. I didn't leave this facility until 1530. I wouldn't say this will be everyone's experience but today 11/15/23... This was my experience and all I had was blueberries.

  • 1/5 Daniel J. 4 months ago on Google
DO NOT even bother showing up early. Typical company, wonโ€™t take you before your appointment time, but wonโ€™t even have you in a dock by your actual appointment time. My appointment was at 11am, didnโ€™t receive a dock until 12:30 and got out of there at 3pm. If I could give 0 starts I would! If possible, avoid this company at all costs!!!

I have to say after reading reviews I expected to be here all day. Not at all the case for me. Recievers opened at 7am my appt time was 8am, put me in a dock door right away and started unloading. The gentleman that checked me in was very polite and had a good attitude. Nice people. However park on street and walk in. Not a lot of room.

I couldnโ€™t believe how quickly they unloaded me. I was in and out! I wish I had the same luck at other docks. Thanks for getting the job done rapidly and the overall professionalism.

Docks open at 7:00AM. They make me unloaded at 2:00PM. The supervisor was so rude and disrespectful. There are lots of space in street.

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Nice size USO. Always a great place to sit and chill with a long layover to get away from the crowded airport and all the noise. There are two inside the airport. There was even a play area for kids with books, games and toys. There's wifi and even a computer station. Great job Chicago USO.
