Dog friendly, tranquil, beautiful park oasis in the heart of the Gold Coast. A nice place to sit on a bench or on the grass to read, meditate or enjoy the amazing Chicago skyline. A walk around the park is wonderful exercise too!

Pretty park, but not recommended for dogs that don’t do well off leash and specially off-leash and not enclosed. It is also not recommended for a quiet time since there are lots of dogs running around off-leash. But highly recommend for dogs that are very obedient and super friendly!

Great park to take your dog. Or sit by the fountain and relax watching all the dogs.

Beautiful park, especially in the summer! Really nice place to have a picnic or walk your dog. Also close to the Newberry Library.

A great place for some on leash doggy meet ups. You can almost always meet another dog at this park, no matter the time or day of the week. I have an older dog but he still loves to meet other dogs and meeting on leash is better for him. Nice park benches to sit and take a break and big trash cans to pick up after your dog. Perfect for every season.

Lots of hungry pigeons. Not too many angry birds. Benches. Grassy areas. Decent dog and people watching.

Decent park. The fountain is spectacular, and almost all of the benches were full at midday. However, I was not very impressed by the maintenance, especially given how affluent the neighborhood is- a whole section of park was overgrown and fenced off, and there were a lot of cracks in the pavement. I am sure with a little more care it could be greatly improved.

This park is lovely people picnicking, doing yoga in groups, walking their dogs sitting and reading the trees are large and old and offer a plenty of shade from the sun. The flowers are starting to bloom and cardinals nest in the trees singing sweetly. They offer music in the park in the summertime and doggy yoga with a separate area for pets to do their business in. It's so charming and such a historical Park across from the Newberry library.

Beautiful park. Lots of benches for seating around the main fountain in the middle. Spacious park where no one bothers you. Lots of flowers. Being maintained with grass restoration rather than neglected. So many people bring their fur babies here and it’s a real treat to watch them all play together. Especially when you’re in between pet ownership yourself.

I used to love this little park.... but now it's just become a park for dogs, not people.... I'm now afraid to come here with my child, as dogs run around like crazy without any leash (though it's against the park's rules!!!).... More than once a random dog just jumped on my child!!! It's terrible with that amount of dogs now........

Lovely square block of green space with shade, benches, great gathering spot for dogs, kids, and adults, as well as quiet refuge from city congestion. Some days there are local business booths and food trucks. A historic neighborhood gem!

This park is in my neighborhood. Newberry Library on one side, Moody Bible campus on the other. One Chicaho is a neighbor. So many people and pets here all the time along with a host of activities. Bring a chair or a mat!

Great for dogs! Technically on leash but off leash is usually not an issue. Starting around 5pm is yappy hour and it's crazy at that time, so don't go then if you aren't a dog person.

Love it a nice and clean dog park, which everyone keeps clean, and clean up after them self's..

A very nice, clean, well maintained park. Lots of dogs were playing here so it would be a great place to socialize your puppy.

Wonderful spot for sitting out and taking in the city. Can get busy on petty days but never over-crowded. Being a dog-owner myself, I so appreciate the “bark bathroom” area. Just wish more owners would use it!

Beautiful park with mature shade trees, plenty of benches, and a gorgeous fountain.

Excellent ambiance and amiable dogs People who are doing things that you might disagree with should just keep moving. I've had the opportunity to meet people who have invited me to weddings; I've met a man who had considered suicide and got to know him; he then invited me to his rooftop for a barbecue; in the summer, apples grow on the trees; and there's a lovely woman who places her piano in the summer and lends it out to anyone who needs it. You may see people from all over the state and country.

A beautiful park with a fountain in the middle and an unbeatable John Hancock view from the West facing benches. I take my dog here quite regularly and it’s a good place for her to run off leash and meet her fellow canine friends. A serene park nestled in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Park with a fountain across from the library. Seemed very popular during the wedding ceremony. Lots of dogs and people about enjoying the city.

Washington Square Park is a very wonderful park in Chicago and where you and your families can enjoy a wonderful day and have a picnic too.

Love relaxing here and seeing the dogs and people watching. Great place to get away from the noise of the city, while still being in the city.

Nice green area for dogs to frolic, but small and not remotely a dog park. More like a park with dogs

Other than during the Christmas season, bleak and sad in the winter. A pleasant oasis in summer, spring and fall. Don't go if you don't love dogs!

Great little city park with a fountain and great dog meeting place. In warmer weather expected to see random outdoor workouts or picnic setups ...plus the dogs... If your dog likes stalking squirrels this park is the best.

  • 4/5 Courtney W. 2 years ago on Google
Nice, spacious park. People seem to keep it clean. Could use some more grass in one area but you can tell it’s frequented by dogs.

Flawless square of green space with conceal, seats, extraordinary social event spot for canines, children, and grown-ups, just as calm shelter from city blockage. Occasionally there are neighborhood business stalls and food trucks. A notable neighborhood pearl!

Once a beautiful park, great for picnics and free play, the dogs off leash in posted “no dog areas” are killing the grass and people’s fun. It used to be a traditional historically significant people park with dogs allowed but now it’s a “dog park” for some careless and selfish dog owners instead of for all. It stinks of dog poop on hot days. I have three dogs myself but this park is out of control since the pandemic with poorly behaved dogs. One even attacked my kid as we were spinning her around. The park’s governance sucks up taxpayer dollars “restoring” grass areas repeatedly that are ruined by the dogs. It makes no sense. I miss my neighborhood park… There are so many actual dog parks in this city, made just for dogs. Maybe close off an area and make it just for pups so people can enjoy the open areas again? Plant Illinois natives, please, it saves water, money and supports our local biodiversity. Try some swamp milkweed for monarchs!
