Great place to take family and still be Social Distant. Please have Fishing license on hand! They will check! The fishing is fun with many spots to catch, great spots to picnic, perfect to take kids to the water to learn and practice fishing if you want and there's even a few Playground areas for the kids to just be kids. Be sure to clean up any trash you may have when you're visiting! Other than that,Great place to locally explore!

I’ve driven past this for 30+ years and never stopped until now. I never understood from the highway why so many people were always out here. Wow. What a hidden gem. Great fishing, hiking, and just an overall place to relax! We will definitely stop every time we pass through from here on out!

Nice, clean, calm environment to explore Nature and all it has to offer. Including fishing, and a peek at deers and other wildlife. Came out for some soothing water sounds, but I'll be back next weekend for some fishing before it gets cold.

Finally able to get into the visitor center. There were four people inside working. Not one of those people asked if we needed help or was looking for anything particular. Not even a hello upon entering the facility . I stated to the person at the front desk it was our first time there. He looks up and puts his head down and keeps writing . There are displays of native and invasive species on display boards and a live green parrot in a cage.

A beautiful, peaceful oasis on the Chicago-Hammond border. It feels like another place.

A little bit of paradise within the big city

I like visiting the state park because it's an urban sanctuary within an urban environment within what nature has to offer. The biggest drawback is the park surrounded by all of that industrial activity on the far southeast side of Chicago and northwest Indiana, particularly Hammond and Whiting. The site used to be a missile factory before it was demolished almost 50 years ago. However, it's a great place to clear mind while your walking around, hunting and fishing on Wolf Lake. It opens until it gets dark 7 days a week. This is one of the nature parks in the city on any government-owned level, you should get out of our comfort zones if you appreciate nature more.

This is a little gem hidden, full of wildlife and very nice scenery. The small lake is a plus. Whether you walk or drive, it is a pleasure to visit this forest preserve.

It's conveniently located between Illinois and Indiana and is a fisherman's dream... have been offered fish from fishermen on several occasions because they had a great haul that day. Plenty of areas to be alone and meditate.

The park is very nice and very beautiful a great place to relax, fish, walk, or bike. However, while some improvements have been made the park could do with some more maintenance and care. Staff is friendly.

It's kept clean for the most part. I love seeing nature at it's purest; the trees & animals. The bike trail going through is nice. Remember to bring bug spray if you plan on spending the day here. The shelters are some of the cheapest in the area to rent. $25/a day.

This is a state park on the Illinois/ Indiana border. I saw a few gatherings and birthday parties, a bunch of people fishing, and I found some nice quiet places. I wanted to ask the DNR officer about the train tracks running through the middle of the lake, but I didn't. Maybe next time.

I'd grade everything an A (scenery, social climate, parking, etc) except for the restrioms/outhouse. They're in need of renovation. Still, this is one of my favorite places to take my family to just decompress and watch the world.

Great place to spend outdoors. Great scenic views. Great place to hike and get fresh air. Whenever possible it needs to be restocked with fish. Baby sizes to adult . All fresh water species.

I was shoulder to shoulder trying to catch a trout . And the local fishermen were very rude . These guys on the opposite side of the pond kept casting to my side and hooking my bobber that was a pole lengths away from me on shore. Then they hollered like I was at fault . Allot of fishermen were keeping past thier limits here as well .

Recently kayak fished this lake, only caught a 9" rock bass and 11" bass, a lot of submerged vegetation, the south end of the lake makes a good top water spot

Now Deer hunting is permitted within the park what a joke. The Deer aren't afraid of humans at all. It's no challenge to hunt them with a Crossbow or any Archery. You could throw a stone at a Deer and kill it. Not impressive at all.

Have been going here for over 65 years. Much has changed in that little time as the stories my grandfather told me about when he was a young man going mushroom hunting and his brothers lost weekends on Wolf lake kept me entairned for hpurs...

We love this place so much. The serenity is absolutely just flourishing here. You can bring your boat, your bike, your fishing poles and more. There are walking paths in the woods...it so much fun. We're having a camp out picnic in a fews weeks. We love to take our grandson just so he can see nature. He's only 8 months. Take your children to run around and see all the Canadian Geese.

Love the fishing. Great place to relax.

Beautiful Lake and cardiovascular hiking and picnic areas available. The ecosystem needs a local University or City appointment to replenish the bee and butterfly tree and bush enhancers and a shallow waterway grant to protect and more than double the deer population is needed.

Hidden gem regarding open green space. Roads could use some work in spots with large depressions. Toilet facilities are usable but smell is terrible.

Fishing for those who fish, beautiful lake, and quite if you just want to chill. I think it's a little quieter than the Indiana side..
